I ALSO was thinking of past events today... And I would kinda like to see what it would've been like to have peacekeepers in full force. Maybe a past event for one of the Hold Riots in the Pass? Or maybe the keepers busting in on a wher fight so you can have all of the unsavouries either running or fighting and the peacekeepers either being crooked and letting certain people go, or straight laced and guns blazing. Also cool for whers on both sides.

I'm down for more Tiy threads, but he might’ve considered her a bit of a stick in the mud if they ever actually interacted during their proper peacekeeper days. So I don't know if they would've hung out separate to work, and although she was in one of Notkerrics group at some point, she was never in the inner circle like most of the other peeps in this thread. If that still works for what you have in mind, then I'm down to throw her in.

Otherwise I've just got Qailyx, but he isn't into the fighting and wher scene. He'd be more of a pretty accessory, so idk if that works for you but he'd be around the Hold a little more for the fun of it in present IC time.

Soon I'll have Doll for some friendly sparring?

Your Reflection...

Appearance:
Faennilin has dark brown skin, hair and eyes. Her hair is curly, cropped into a short bob that is cool in Summer, and often the edges of it are pulled properly out of her face by a leather thong. She’s thin, bordering obscenely so, but has a girlish air that makes her seem fairy-like. Proud to be a rider like so many generations of her family, she’s always in her riding leathers unless absolutely necessary to be in other clothes, in which she’ll just grab whatever fits from siblings, friends, or Wingmates. She’s always smiling, her eyes seem to sparkle, and she has a habit of flicking her hair when she gets bored or if it gets in her face.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe:
Faennilin is very young, and for the better part of her life, there’s been hope more than anything else. Fort was the last bastion of civilization on Pern for her whole life, and just as she was growing old enough to recognise how dangerous that was for Pern, she was searched. Her whole family, for generations, have been riders, so being searched at the very beginning of her adulthood was cause for hope. She could do her part to help, she could follow in the footsteps of her family, she could do the utmost for Pern. Then, in the year just before she impressed, Fort Island was found.
Incredible, unbelievable, the whole island was hope. It was the first time she’d ever seen her father cry when they could all fly over together. Because it was green. And they all lived. A miraculous rarity for the families of Pern, but it was their reality. The only thing left for Fae was to find her place among rider that… didn’t fight thread.

Response to dragon color mutations:
Fae is so very excited about the mutations. Although being a rider is a family tradition, she isn’t fixated so much on doing everything the same as those before her. She’s a bit too flighty to be that hung up about it, and considering everything else about Southern Winds is different, then what’s the big deal about this? Her family mightn’t agree but that’s their issue.

Who are you...

Likes:
* Runners High – Fae loves to run. Any time she’s feeling stressed, or stuck, or bored, she’ll be out in the Weyrbowl running it out. The high afterwards is something she’s only found rivalled by being with Voyith.
* Snow – Although she wouldn’t trade Fort Island for anything, she does tend to miss the Winter snows.
* Riddles – Fae likes solving puzzles, she and Voyith quiz each other all the time.

Dislikes:
* Early Mornings – Much like her dragon, Fae is never a super happy chap during early mornings, which is a stark contrast to what she’s usually like.
* Secrets/Privacy – Fae is an open book person, she likes to invade the space and lives of the people she cares about without question. When people keep things from her, or shut her out, she takes it personally.
* Long hair – Mostly on her, she hates it getting over her clothes and tickling her arms and neck. She doesn’t really like it on others either because she hates cleaning it up after, and it gets all in their face.

Strengths:

* DELIGHTFUL: Fae is a genuine joy to be around, she just has an energy and affection that’s contagious. She can be a bit much for some people, but her loudness and her enjoyment of meeting new people translates and genuine and sweet.

* VERSITILE: She can give people what they want. Fae is adaptable in a group, happy to fill the position anyone needs her to, happy to find her place wherever is most comfortable. She’s not competitive or even ambitious, but she’ll adapt to the room and sit wherever is comfortable.

* GENEROSITY: Coming from a big family, a cramped environment, a dangerous lifestyle and a fickle personality, Fae doesn’t really care about the material things, so is happy to share and give whatever she has.

* BALANCED: For all that Fae is flippant and emotional, she actually has a very balanced lifestyle. It’s not really her that’s kept her life balanced, it’s more the structure of the dragonriders and the bond she has with her family and Voyith. Those are the things that keep her even, she has the fair share of responsibility to enjoyment, and a balance between family support and pressure.

* LOYAL: Although not an ambitious person, Fae has always worked hard to work for the things she has… been brought up to hold dear. Mainly the dragonriders, but also her family. We’ll never know if she would have worked as hard or been as decisive about who she wanted to be and what she wanted to do for her family honour if she’d been raised differently. But Fae has based her entire life around her loyalty to her family and the riders.

Weaknesses:

* FICKLE: Very much a creature of whim, Fae doesn’t tend to stick to an opinion, a task, or a person for too long. The only things that have really stuck with Fae are things she’s been born into (ie. Family and Rider tradition), and Voyith. Which makes them hugely important to her.

* NON-CONFRONTATIONAL: As someone who is very emotional, conflict tends to upset Fae and throw everything out of wack for her. Usually, because she’s so flippant and likes to please, there isn’t a lot people get particularly angry at her for. But even when the conflict just surrounds her, even if it doesn’t involve her, it still tends to upset her. She won’t be able to hide it either.

* CLUMSY: Voyith is graceful in the air, lithe and beautiful to Fae. In the air, she feels like she can be a part of that, and it’s incredible. On land, when she has to walk and work on her own, she tends to be really clumsy. Like a puppy that hasn’t grown into it’s feet yet, that’s what Fae is like for the most part.

* DOGMATIC: It isn’t hard to change Fae’s mind on something, but she’s one of those people that’s happy to hear one opinion, one time, and then believe it fact. She isn’t set in those facts, she won’t argue, she’ll just be genuinely shocked and surprised to hear that not everything you hear around the Weyr is true.

* TRACTABLE: Fae is pretty easy to control and manipulate. It’s not always a bad thing, it makes her easy to fit into each group, but in her mind, dragonriders should have a bit more spine. And she’s always disappointed in herself when she realises that she’s been taken advantage of.

Describe Yourself:

* AIR-HEADED: ----- A bit of a ditz, she isn’t completely off the rails, but she can be a bit oblivious. It’s like, lacking street smarts, not quite getting the joke, or getting it a minute too late and laughing very loud. She’s never been unintelligent, she just spends a lot of her time with her head cocked to the side before it sinks in and her eyes light up.

* EMOTIONAL: ----- Fae is a person that wears her heart on her sleeve, at all times, even when not appropriate. She’ll cry at the drop of a hat, pout all throughout drills in the early morning, and laugh too loud at dinner. But at least she’s genuine.

* PEOPLE PLEASER: ----- If other people are happy, life is easier. She genuinely enjoys seeing others feeling relaxed and carefree, if only for a moment, because there were so few of those moments to have during the catastrophe. Being the cause of those moments is the best ever.

* TOM BOY: ----- Fae has never cared much about the girlish side of things. She’s always in her rider leathers because she’s proud of them, but for the rest she’ll chose the non-feminine option because she just doesn’t care for looking pretty.

* ENERGETIC: ----- Always bubbly, bouncing through people and groups, Fae can light up a room. Her constant energy and effervescence is probably the first thing anyone notices about her.

The Magic Touch: Fae will cry at the drop of a hat, when she’s angry, sad, happy. She just cries a lot.

Faennilin hasn’t had any yet, if she fell pregnant during her candidacy, she got rid of it so she wouldn’t miss a hatching. She was pregnant a couple of months ago, only very briefly, and it fell through not by choice. She’s rolling with it, instead of getting too upset, it wasn’t like it was a weyrmate or something she really wanted, but she’s not up to talking about it just yet.

* 2575, 3 Kaethen’s Impression
Kaethen is Fae’s eldest sibling, and the one person, apart from her mother, that Fae looked up to most in the whole of Pern. There are some that cannot handle Kaethen’s particular brand of ‘don’t give a fuck.’ But that didn’t stop them from impressing to a wonderful Brown, and changing the phrase to ‘don’t give a flying fuck.’ Although it is true that Fae might have become a rider anyway, she has always put it down to copying Kaethen because… who wouldn’t want to copy Kaethen? And because if they can do it, so can she.

* 2579, 7 Liany
Her father had children outside their paring before, it had never seemed like a big deal before because the whole family just glossed over it. When her mother had a child outside their paring, that was different. The first time Onrath hadn’t actually won Ferinith’s flight in the whole time Fae had been alive. Under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t have even mattered, how could they really tell? Unfortunately, Liany takes after her father, quite obviously in comparison to the rest of the family.

Honestly, it shouldn’t have mattered. Riders should be above that. Apparently, her father was a little more of an asshole than they’d realised before. He was put straight eventually, her mother’s cool and collected demeaner only thinly veiling the very real threat of her leaving him and having all the children follow her lead. But it took a while, and given Fae’s youth, she was biased against the young child. She grew out of it… eventually, but it took until her own candidacy, so the youth of her young sister is probably tarnished by Fae being an asshole.

Diving down to land in the cleared space by the Minehall, the fog didn’t seem so worrying from above. It gave the island an air of mystery, of magic. Sure, some of the newbies out of weyrlinghood needed watching as they got the feel of their new Wing, but Fae didn’t mind, Prairie was home to her. It was only after landing, the heavy footfalls of half a wing dropping in organised parts like drumbeats of a canon song, that the ominous feeling settled in the stomachs of those around Fannilin and her Blue.

Not liking the press of the thick grey towards her, blocking her vision of those dragonpairs on the outside of the group, Fae flapped her hands at the nearest tendril. The wind seemed to move too slowly from her to push the fog back, and she crossed her arms with a pout. Spotting one of her wing members giving her a questioning look at her somewhat childish antics, she shrugged and said, “it’ll make my hair frizzy.”

Her voice was weirdly loud amongst the reserved morning air, but even then, further conversation would be difficult as the creak of the gates made it difficult to hear. Or, they would have made it difficult to hear talking, they did very little to block out the sharp roar of pain from off to Fae’s left.

Fae’s mind went completely quiet for a moment, all rational thought and sound chased away by the blood curdling scream. But her bonded didn’t hesitate. Kicking off with a hard pump of Blue wings, Faennilin had the wind knocked out of her momentarily by the leap into the air. The Hunters could jump, they knew that, but it was no safer on the ground when you couldn’t see them.

If only they had firestone, the thought passed through their bond momentarily, the image of the snarling Hunters that thought to attack their friends and home screeching as skin melted held more than a hint of vicious satisfaction to it. But they didn’t. Fae didn’t really have anything more than a meagre belt knife. The strength of her dragon and her Wing was the only thing she could rely on now.

Close to the front of the Hall, the skinny Bluerider lay low in her saddle, making it easier for the Blue’s agility to take over if they needed. Working on drilled orders alone, her own mind unable to think from fear for the moment, the dragonpair noted the closest Hunters, trying to count numbers. But with the roiling of the fog as dragons took to the air, and the new faces in the Wing, it was hard to keep track of who and what was where.

Unable to recognise the closest enemy, or weakest friend near them, her Blue darted in front of the Hold doors, ready to pounce on any Hunters that thought to make it past the protective metal gates. Mind kickstarted by the focus and ferocity of her Blue, Fae leant over the side of her saddle just slightly. “Close the gate!” She screamed towards the doors, unseeing of any inside. “Hunters! Close the gate now!”

Surely they’d hear the screams and realise, surely they’d act fast to save themselves. Because if a Hunter got inside those walls, there was very little the dragonriders could do to save them.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Voyith always sounds like he’s grumbling, even when he’s happy. There’s just a low rumble to his voice that sounds like it’s always tinged with annoyance. Which isn’t entirely true. He isn’t annoyed a lot, but he has a vicious streak that Fae has always said was brought on to match the Hunters. He’s not as arrogant as the blacks, which means he doesn’t get in fights or steps outside of his station a lot, he’s just a little vindictive.

Likes:
* Water – Voyith has always been a water baby and would have loved to be in Beach Wing. But that isn’t where he and Fae are meant to be, she far prefers their family in Prairie, and he far prefers her to be happy. His favourite time of the day is when they join Beach in their fishing chores, however. And bath time.
* Jobs – Doesn’t like being left to his own devices, except for sleep, Voyith really prefers to have something to do.

Dislikes:
* Early Mornings – Well… we all have to have some vices, Voyith’s is that he likes to sleep in. But that chance doesn’t come often for dragons, so he’ll just have to take what he can get.
* Arrogance – For Voyith, there’s a different between being confident, good and charming, to being an ass. He’s not quite aware that he crosses that line at times, but he hates it when others do.

Strengths:

* FOCUSSED: Almost obsessively so, Voyith is always on task and concentrating, when Fae rarely is. He just likes having something to do, and he wants to do well to make Fae, her family, and his wingmates proud.

* CHARMING: Perhaps because Voyith is so focussed, he is very good at paying attention to what people like and what they want to hear, which makes him charming. At least, to the extent that dragons are. He’ll casually flirt with pretty much everyone, without really realising that counts as flirting.

* BRAVE: Voyith deeply cares about the people around him, dragonkind, dragoncousins and humans, and he’ll go to great lengths to protect them. Unfortunately, he’ll only ever have to risk it with Fae on his back, which deeply troubles him. Choosing between putting her at risk and doing his duty is the hardest decision he’ll have to make, but Fae trusts him, and believes whole heartedly in the dragonriders, so the decision comes easier when they think as one.

Weaknesses:

* DEPENDANT: All dragons are close with their riders, they are two parts of a whole. However, Voyith is very attached to Fae. He’s never liked being apart from her for too long, and complains whenever he’s left alone. He needs something and someone to focus on, and Fae is always entertaining.

* SMOL BEAN: For a dragon with a bit of a vicious streak, he doesn’t really fit the physique he would want. Taking down Hunters, the overlarge wherries called Skycoursers, beachsnakes and sharpfish in defence of those he cares about and those he’s supposed to protect, is a lot harder for him than he’d care to admit.

Personality:
Delightful, Airheaded, Emotional
Backstory:
Faennilin is a lovely person in general, if a bit airheaded. She’ll never leave Prairie in all likelihood, which doesn’t bother her in the slightest, she’s still a rider and that’s all she ever hoped for. Ferrying people back and forth from the Minehall is a great way to meet new and interesting people and talk about crafts she never had an interest in before, but is cool to hear about in passing. All riders have to be prepared to face Hunters, but watching a fellow Pairie member fall, and fall without any warning, is a harsh reminder of your own mortality. Petrified beyond reasonable thought, Faennilin is acting on muscle memory and shared instinct with her Blue.
Intended Outcome:
Severe Injury pretty please (I actually like her more than I was expecting so I might not kill her… very sad I know.)

Tunarii – Although they’re married, they fell out of love around a decade ago, and they really only stay together because they’re used to each other’s company. They both sleep around and see other people, but always seem to fall back to each other when any other relationship gets hard.

Your Reflection...

Appearance:
Never in his life has Doll enjoyed having his hair tied up. Yes, it’s annoying when it gets in the way, but having it tied up all day, every day, while working, just causes headaches, literally. It would be very rare to find him with his hair tied up, his one concession is a simple leather strip that he can tie around his forehead to hold some of it back, but that’s about it. His beard is thick and long, but neatly trimmed around the edges because scruffy is not really his jam. His clothes are worn and often thin, but it’s not too bad because he prefers lighter fabrics so that he doesn’t overheat. His shirts/tunics are usually undone a few more buttons than is strictly proper, but there aren’t many people to complain. Beyond the undone buttons, and occasionally sleeves rolled to his elbows, he wears clothing that covers almost all his skin. He wears a simple necklace of assorted, mismatched beads that his eldest daughter made him before she got too serious for that sort of thing.

Doll isn’t tall, but is muscular, and his muscles don’t quite fit well on him. He’s not hulking, but he’s not lithe, the kind of muscles that people are like ‘oh wow’ if they just look at him flexing, but if they take in the whole picture while he’s just relaxing they sort of tilt their head with a question mark in their eyes. Often held off by the full covering of his clothing, both for the fact that he thinks he looks weird too, and because he doesn’t like to be touched, another reason his clothes are loose fitting.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: The death of his mother and subsequent struggles that plagued his family, for a time, hit hard and fast. It’s remarkable to Doll to see how well something can hold together, before one lose thread pulls it all apart. There was a feeling of… uselessness, hopelessness, and that just made Doll angry to cover the fear. Thankfully, his family are hardy folk, and stronger together, so when the opportunity rose to move towards something a little more stable, if a lot more illegal, it was leapt for. In all honesty, if he hadn’t come from the kind of family that stuck it out together, he… he would have become a desperate man in those hard times. Strength in numbers is the only survival strategy he knows, and the only one that could really work for his personality.

Response to dragon color mutations: Dragons shmagons. If the riders are up in arm about their own kind, that’s easier for him to slip under the radar. He doesn’t care about the colour of the beast as long as he and his family get to keep what they worked for. He’s never met the dude, as long as he doesn’t mess up, Doll doesn’t care.

Who are you...

Likes:
Eggs – The bonus to having a bunch of twittering females bonded to him? Plenty of fresh food to boil or fry. Well, maybe not quite plenty, but more than others and more than enough for him to rank it high on his favourites list.
Violence – Not particularly shocking from their little family of masochists and sadists. When Doll has some anger to work out, he does it with his fists, and if people want to profit off betting on him, that’s just good business. He doesn’t like to lose, but he has a healthy respect for those who can best him in skill or ferocity. Well... Mostly ferocity. His skill level isn’t the highest, he just likes taking a hit more than most.
Winter – The cold, the crispness of the air, the moaning of everyone else around him, the howling wind that gives him the windswept look? Everything about winter brings Doll joy. People who don’t like winter are weak.

Dislikes:
Being touched – Just… don’t? Any self-respecting man has a personal bubble and a hard fist to enforce it in Doll’s not so humble opinion. Stay on the outside of the bubble and everyone will be fine. He puts up with it from his sisters, and when his children were young, but for the most part he’ll avoid physical contact or break it off quickly. Sex is apparently different, but he doesn’t like a lot of… physical lead up. No flirtatious touches or hanging off his arm before they get somewhere private, if you’re going to touch him it’s to get down to business. Doll finds washing or pain to be the best remedy for getting the feeling of someone’s hands off him, a quick slap to the offending area or scrubbing his whole body is the most common relief.
Men – He’s spent his entire life surrounded by women. He works with them more, he trusts them more, he doesn’t feel threatened by them (in a personal way, he absolutely fears some women physically), but men? There’s just something that he doesn’t like about being forced into situations where only men are around, and although he doesn’t loath every one he meets, he’s never as close to any of them as he is with women. They take up his place. He’s always the one man in the room, when there are others it feels… wrong.
Alcohol – Unlike some of his sisters, Doll hates the taste of alcohol. Which is good for guarding trade for the Brewers, and doesn’t have much of a downside other than some men calling him a sissy. But then they’ll either meet his fist or his sisters will take offense and drink them under the table. Honestly, there’s nothing worthwhile to alcohol in Doll’s opinion. Tastes like shit and it makes you do everything worse.

Strengths:
* BLUFFING: Unlike the master manipulators that most of his sisters fall into, Doll doesn’t manipulate people, so to speak, he just lies. He lies like most people play chicken, bold and wide eyed. It doesn’t matter if it’s a blatant lie, most of it is, but if you have enough conviction and a solid ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about’ face, you can get away with a lot. If you add a laugh of nervousness at the end people believe you, make eye contact with someone else in the room and they suddenly think everyone thinks they’re stupid and will back down, and if you invalidate what they believe to be true once, it’ll be a hell of a lot easier to do it again. The bolder and more confident your lie, the easier it actually is to pull off, because it confuses the fuck outta people. And if you get caught, just pretend it’s the lack of sleep from kids that’s made you forget. It’s a little beyond his intelligence to scheme and plot, he’s just really good at bluffing.

* BONDING/BARGAINING: Just give the people what they want? Food, alcohol, a warm bed and sex is what drives almost everyone deep down, no need to get in depth. You do me a service, I’ll give you a fair price. It’s true that it’s not the way to get rich, his sisters are better at that, but it’s a way to build loyalty, which is what a recruiter for a gang needs. He thinks it’s manipulation, his wife thinks he’s just good at making friends, everyone else thinks he’s just a trader of… a certain kind of lifestyle.

* LOYALTY: Clearly to his family, not that most of them would tolerate anything less, and not that he would have survived without sticking with them. But, somewhere along the line, and he doesn’t know how it happened, he learnt loyalty to those that joined their gang working under his sisters. Kids that would do anything for food, men that were barely holding together against the tide of disaster and using alcohol to hide the cracks until you gave them something to work for, women with shadows in their eyes and skin under their nails from the last person who thought them an easy target, that just wanted someone to have their back so they could get a solid night’s rest. Somewhere along the way, they earnt his loyalty, through blood or sweat, and his ‘family’ grew to encompass them all. Possibly because of that, he’s so harsh to those who disappoint or betray the kindness and loyalty he showed. Those people… don’t often get a second chance… and usually need to find protection fast, because he hasn’t learnt how to temper his temper.

* HOPEFUL: Doll’s been through shit and come out on top, what reason do they have to not be hopeful? The world is at your fingertips, you just need to work for it. So put in the yards, don’t complain or whine about how unfair everything is and how hopeless everything is you are. Doll’s never down in the dumps about ‘the future,’ the future is full of possibilities, and you have the time to make sure it’s the one you want.

* Another

Weaknesses:

* LIMITS: Doll doesn’t like to be limited. He doesn’t like structure, it makes him feel as claustrophobic as the tiny family cave they had to share after their Mum passed away. That might be why he was never considered the ‘Muscle’ of his family gang. Most of his sisters could take care of themselves and threats just as well as he could. In fact, mostly better than he could. And being the Muscle was what people expected, it forced him into one role, one job, one idea. It came with restrictions on how he had to act and who he had to act with, and he couldn’t stand that. 

* LEADERSHIP: For all that he has a forceful personality, he doesn’t really like being in charge. Possibly because it comes with the limits and responsibility, possibly because he was never around people that he could dominate as a child. None of his sisters (with maybe one exception) would ever have put up with that, even the littlest, who he was old enough to help raise. He was kind of, moulded before he was old enough to realise what was happening, to be a doer instead of a thinker, and suddenly leadership was a bit of a bore that he could happily leave to others. It’s also why it’s so important for him to have the sense of loyalty with the members he brings into the gang, because they need to listen to him without leaving him with the responsibilities of a leader/babysitter. He gets enough of that with his hoard of egg layers. Leave it to his older sisters to get the responsibility, he’ll just enjoy the benefits.

* TEMPER: Doll doesn’t like pulling back, he has a real problem with it. If he’s angry, he’s angry and people deserve to deal with the consequences of that for making him angry. Why should he have to temper himself because other people are stupid and sensitive? He’ll throw shit, break shit, hit little shits, that’s just how he deals, and how other people have to deal if they fuck up. Which is why he just sits down and lets his sister handle the rest of the business. Probably another reason he could never have been the muscle for his crew, he just… he doesn’t have the temper to be Muscle. A Muscle for a gang needs to be coiled tight to act on an order, and to pull back at the right time, and to deal with a little in order to gain a lot. Doll can’t do that, he doesn’t like being told to wait, doesn’t have the will to pull it back, and doesn’t put up with shit.

* PATIENCE: Uuuuugggghhhhhhh, Doll likes kicking back and chilling as much as the next person, but waiting? Nope. No. Nada. Bring him in when you need to get shit done. Don’t have him sit around and… well… sit around while you ‘um’ and ‘ahh’ over the ‘right time.’ Get your shit straight and your list of requests sorted, then come see him so they can get down to business. His sisters are too smart for half assed planning, thank the silver clear skies, perhaps they’ve given him too high standards for everyone else.

* GREEDY: If you can get it, Doll wants it. Why wouldn’t he? Why would you not be out to get everything you can? It doesn’t make any sense to just settle for what someone gives you when you know there’s more to be had. Doll will take everything he can get his hands on.

 Describe Yourself:

* MANNERS: ----- It isn’t about language or status, it’s about respect. He deserves respect and will demand it from those close to him. There’s a time and place for swearing and it isn’t at the dinner table, there’s harsh punishments for those who don’t listen to his family when they’re supposed to be working for them, and his kids are in for a world of pain if they think they can talk back. Unfortunately, he’s often the one to butt heads with Oppesine about her shamelessness.

* BUSY: ----- It’s not that Doll doesn’t know how to relax, he actually loves to relax, he thinks he’d be really good at relaxing. Problem is, he has no time. Doll is always doing something, always has a job to do, or a kid to look after, or some heads to knock together or a sister to accompany on an errand. There is zero time in this boy’s life for relaxing. Now that his own children are older, it’s a little easier, but his bonded creatures (damn the lot of them) coordinated to make sure one of them was always pregnant (at least, that’s how he sees it). And with the recent understanding of his wife getting pregnant again, he’ll probably be doing all his errands with a baby sling on in the near future.

* CONTRARY: ----- Part of Doll’s dislike of limitations and being typecast, he often goes out of his way to be different than people tell him he is. The kind of kid that when an adult said he’d make a good healer, he purposefully got into fights to prove he didn’t have the healer’s spirit; or when they said he’d never settle with a woman because ‘haha ball and chain’ he married his first love and even if they don’t love any longer, would never disrespect her by saying she held him down; or when his first wher hatched a Green and people told him that something so small and useless didn’t suit him, he made sure he trained her well and would never put her in the pits. It might make it easy for his sisters to get him to do things he doesn’t want to, but if people stopped trying to tell him who he was, he wouldn’t have to prove them wrong all the time.

The Magic Touch:
Doll has no sense of smell. None. Hasn’t from birth. He hasn’t been diagnosed or treated, simply because he lied about it as a child and hasn’t told anyone as an adult beyond the occasional ‘I can’t smell a thing’ jokes, and given that there is little known about many of the causes of congenital anosmia, there mightn’t be much Pern healers could do anyway. It hasn’t seemed to affect his appetite.

Keassa and the Beastcraft, or the remains of it, were moved to Fort Weyr in 2570. The remains of their family were shuffled over to Fort Hold a turn later. As Fort got more crowded and the Beastcraft (and those holders left to look after the beasts remaining with the Hold) lost people and livestock, the danger to the remaining beasts got worse. Food was hard to come by with the swelling population, most didn’t see the importance of the runners, and the Weyr already had a hell of a lot to deal with. So, who was on hand to help out? The particularly hardy and opportune family to one of the animals most stalwart defenders. Aunty Kee was family as far as Doll was concerned, and he was happy to volunteer for nightime guard duty if it got him a good workout. It wasn’t exactly easy, working for the beastcrafters is hard work, especially with the growing tensions of hungry mouths, and the shuffling between Hold and Weyr. But his family needed something to do, and the Beasts needed working and protecting… more than they could have expected in the beginning.

Things got particularly harsh in the Fort winter of ’72. It wasn’t the Farmers or the farm labourers fault, some seasons aren’t as good as others. Not that many saw it that way. People were scared, they felt useless, they were angry and hungry and looking for someone to blame. And picking a fight with a rider was a sure way to get a hell of a harsh punishment. So often the Beastcraft and the Farmers bore the brunt of people’s dissatisfaction, and indeed, suspicion. They were good folk, strong folk, and most just shrugged it off and went back to work.

Until one night.

The family weren’t the only ones to watch over the beasts, other helpers and family members of the Beastcrafters were about. It just so happened to be a night Doll hadn’t pulled, and most of his sisters, even if they were savage enough, were too young to pull duties alone. They might’ve been hardened by the recent years, but most would never look at them and think ‘oh shit,’ which was really what that kind of guard duty came down to… for now, at least. It was some other poor sod, he was a big guy to be sure, a bit of a softie if you knew him, but he was a fearsome sight to come across in the dead of night.

Not scary enough to fight off a knife, apparently. They hadn’t just killed him either. If he’d tried to shout out, they’d made it impossible pretty quick. Then stabbed him half a hundred times just to be sure. Even Doll, who’d never be classed as squeamish, grimaced at the sight. He really had been a nice guy.

Apparently, running off through the Hold with a runner wasn’t in the plan. It would be too hard to get away with? Fucked if Doll knew. But they didn’t have to leave the mess they did, which means the bastards did it as a threat, or worse, a challenge. Clearly they’d dragged one of the runners away with a wher, which complicated revenge a little, whers weren’t something to mess around with, and he only had a Green. But where they’d only taken one, they’ll killed two. For sport, or a message. Either way, seeing the pool of darkened blood that had sunken into the grass, the sliced up skin and the glazed over eyes of the runner left behind set Doll’s blood to an instant boil.

Thankfully, his sisters were smarter than he. They knew they couldn’t just ‘take revenge’ like he’d wanted to. Plus, they’d been talking for a while now about needing more. They were getting hunger pains too, just like everyone else. Before it had been just a consideration of a little on the side, but this was more of an… awakening. There was a pretty clear way to get more, and keep what they had safe, but it meant they were going to have to play dirty. And bloody.


* 2587, 32 The Weyr
Fort Weyr was different than this, the mess of people, the constant movement and ever present fear, made their way of life easy to disguise for the most part. But Southern Winds? With its untrodden ground, green forests and fresh weyrs? It was beautiful, and dangerous, and… different. It’s true that Doll’s family had never sunk as low as a drudge and the Weyr didn’t tolerate that kind of thing, but this new hope that the weyr instilled in people was a little bad for business. Life was still hard, life will still be hard for a long while, and it seems the island is almost as deadly as thread. Almost. But their little family wasn’t giving up anything without a fight, they just had to keep it on the downlow a little more, bide their time, they’ll be back in their glory soon enough.

It’s a little soon to retire.

Whers are the bomb

Hey kids! So, Kyarsk is the Gold wher of Kyareena, my lil' farmer. She Ran on the 5th of the 5th and was caught by Bronze Quensk of Quenneca, which means she clutched around the 5th of the 9th. You know what that means? It's less than a month until her clutch of baby whers hatches!!!

Are you excited? You should be. Whers are the bomb.

Anyway, Kyarsk and Kyareena are at the weyr, so this is a chance for any weyrbound folks to get some baby whers! Kya is open to anyone coming up to her and asking for an egg, but she'll be hosting an open hatching for any eggs left over. The hatching will be around the 4th or 5th of the 1st month in the new year. Likewise, Kyarsk is a babe, but also a pretty traditional Gold wher, so if you want an egg, you have to get approved by her (ICly). Also, if you want your character to be involved in the hatching, but don’t want to impress because Kyarsk doesn’t like you, PM me and we’ll discuss. <3

Hey @Yahrlan

I'm sorry that I didn't catch this sooner, I know you've pretty much finished with Rin. But Korinla, her mother, is actually my character and there was some stuff decided for her that no one told you about (I hadn't even seen this wanted add).

I've tried to explain it out in this thread Click here. I hope nothing overtly clashes with your character, but I wanted to let you know before you posted so you have more of an idea of the family.

I just saw that you thought she was alive in your WIP... which... kinda meant I needed to clarify the character.

There might also be some family stuff you weren't aware of. Like... the Nishi and Korinla kids thing.

Anyway, obviously it wasn't your fault for not knowing, I just assumed everyone remembered she was my character, but you weren't even here. So... hope this helps? Or at least doesn't hinder anything.  :fear:

Also, because Nishi loves her family and you currently have both of them impressing in the same clucth, she'd be all over your character if this is the way you still want to do it.

Also @laceface @Dashin , Korel's birthday needs to be changed to 2580. Because his mother was a weyrling. Or... you could have someone else be his mumma.
