Janna will be there participating as a Harper, playing music/singing/etc. During her free time will have lots of fun running around the gather. Will try and get her posted!

Calinaza will be there, and will enjoy the festivities with her family. Likely won't be posted because have lots going on and still haven't managed to get her into the last event thread I said she would be participating in.

@rubi - Y'vis and Calinaza might be friends.  Naza is a bit uneasy regarding the mutations and might be a good ear for Y'vis to complain/ vent to regarding it. It could be assumed that they have known each other a long time as they both came from benden, and then moved to telgar. Feel free to take a peak at  naza's profile and let me know if she is someone you might be interested in getting a thread started with.   :bird:

Calinaza will be down at the docks assisting with fishy tasks. She will be utterly aghast at the creatures. As if the River Snakes and Hunters were not enough!

Janna will be soooo bummed that she isn't down at the docks when they are brought in and that she has to hear about it second-hand.

@raynepotm hello!  I think that Calinaza might make for an interesting friendship with Kyareena. Naza is a dragon rider and her weyrmate is a farmer. Her dragon also lost a wing, so this might fuel (rather than help) Kyareena uneasiness regarding flying, but could help with getting to know/see a dragon with some frequency. Let me know if that might be something you are interested in!  Thanks. :bird:

Janna, 12
Jr. Apprentice Harper
Janna recently joined the harper hall and is looking for a mentor that will help guide her in her learning, as well as assign her tasks that will benefit the hall.

When she isn't working Janna could use a companion. Someone, young or old, that is willing to have her tag along. She might also benefit from becoming acquainted with other young apprentices (from any crafter hall) in order to share their experiences.

She also grew up at Fort Hold, and her grandmother (Temi) has worked in the kitchen both there and here, so she assumably knows some of the kitchen staff on a more personal level than other weyr folk. Jenna would like to maintain these relationships if possible.

Play By:
Navia Ziraili Robinson

Biography

Name:
Janna
Nicknames:
Little Shadow, to the Harpers
Date of Birth:
12.04.2578 9th Pass.
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold
Spouse:
None

Your Reflection...

Appearance:

Janna has a natural and innocent beauty about her, but it only shows up best when her grandmother Temi gets her hands on her. Otherwise, most days, her hair and clothing end up askew and her pretty face is smudged with sweat (depending on the season!) and dirt from her adventuring around the weyr. With the impatience of youth, Janna is never in one place too long and can be seen scampering about in simple tunic and pants most days.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Having arrived at Southern Winds Weyr at the grand old age of ten, Janna can't say that she has the same deep seated sense of loss that the older adults do. Certainly, she was sad to leave the only home that she has ever known in order to build Southern Winds, but it is also an adventure to her and every day brings something new.

Response to dragon color mutations: Dragons are amazing (if not a little intimidating), and Janna thinks that the new color mutations are just as amazing. Sometimes the stories she hears from the other kids about the aggressive nature of the black dragons alarms her, but if she thinks on why that it, it is usually due to the re-telling of violence rather than the color of the dragon.

Who are you...

Likes:

* Songs & Stories: It is no surprise that Janna is a lover of song and stories. After all, stories are all she has to remember her mother by, and the songs are the only way that she gets to explore the very recent history of what once was an expansive society.

* Exploring: Janna is still pretty small, which means that she has the ability to get into places that are also small. Although she is constantly being warned against wandering too much, (there are snakes and hunters, after all) she continues to do so when she has any spare time.

* A well-cooked spiderclaw: Having lived in Fort Fold, which was not along the coast, Janna didn't have much experience with the small critters until moving to Southern Winds two years ago. Upon arriving, however, her grandmother, Temi, showed her how to catch the critters and extract the meat. Now any meals of spiderclaw meat bring up the happy memory of the early morning on the beach with her grandmother.

Dislikes:

* Flits: Although they resemble their larger genetic cousins, Janna finds the frequently needy and chittering creatures to be annoying. Maybe her thoughts on them will change once she grows older, but she currently does not see the appeal.

* Summer Heat: Janna still has not gotten used to the extreme heat that occurs during the summer months, here on Fort Island. During the summer months, she is more prone to getting as far into the cave systems as she can in order to press herself against the cooler rocks.

* Klah: Janna can't understand what others find so great about this drink. She has stolen sips of it while in the kitchen before and almost always ends up spitting it right back out.

Strengths:

* INQUISITIVE : Janna like's to ask questions. Maybe that is why her grandmother pushed her towards becoming a harper. She likes to know things. Little things, big things, it doesn't matter. She isn't bashful about asking questions and is persistent in finding answers.

* YOUTHFUL : Janna isn't burdened by too many responsibilities yet, so it is easy for her to enjoy life even if the environment around her is turbulent and tense most days. Her youthfulness also gives her lots of energy to get into mischief.

* AGILE : Both Janna's feet and fingers are quick, making her a fine addition to the harper hall. Whether it be to run errands for the older, more experienced harpers or to tap the beat of a song out on a drum her agility has helped her.

* OBSERVANT : Is it eavesdropping if she happens to be somewhere in the vicinity of others who are speaking loud enough for her to hear? Janna doesn't think so. She would say that is simply being observant of one's surroundings.

* RESILIANT : It has not been easy, making a new life at Southern Winds, but Janna has continued to do her best and make the most of the situation. It speaks to the resilience of her character that she has adjusted from life inside a hold to life inside of a weyr with little trouble.

Weaknesses:

* CLUMSY : Where Janna is quick, she is also a bit clumsy. Her grandmother insists that is just because she is growing, and once she becomes familiar with her taller, lankier self, she will outgrow it. But for now, the bruised shins and elbows from occasionally running into things are her constant companions.

* IMPERTINENT : Having been raised during a time when things were quite literally getting to be their worst, manners were not frequently taught to Janna. Her waggling tongue gets her into trouble from time to time, but she is gradually learning to craft her words with more care.

* YOUNG : Being a recently appointed jr. apprentice does not get Janna a lot of say in the going-ons around her. If she is particularly lucky she might be able to keep the attention of any of the older and more experienced holders, crafters or weyr folk long enough in order to effect their decision, but most of the time she finds that they feel like they have better things to be doing than listening to an upstart jr. apprentice.

* IMPATIENT : Her youth is a double-edged sword and she has not learned patience. Living in a time period where life moves quickly, and the future is uncertain, the idea of waiting for anything sets Janna on edge and usually leads to low-level tantrums.

* OVERZEALOUS : When she gets it into her head that something needs to be done, she has a tendency to pursue it to the point where she neglects other important aspects of her life.

Describe Yourself:

* FUSSY: ----- Janna likes her living space to be 'just-so,' which is hard to accomplish when you are living in shared quarters. She tries her best to not let the little things bother her, but she sometimes finds herself putting things back in order when she really should be attending to a different task.

* INDEPENDENT: ----- Janna does not feel like she needs anyone looking out after her anymore. She is an apprentice now, not just some kid!

* LOGICAL: ----- Janna tends to react to things more logically than emotionally. After all, better to be able to take a logical course of action, then get side tracked by crying over a disaster.

* SCRAWNY: ----- Janna is a bit smaller than the other girls her age, and it has, in turn, spawned a need for her to prove that she is just as capable as they are.

* ADVENTEROUS: ----- Has a thirst for discovering things, which works out well for her considering she has moved to an only recently inhabited island!

The Magic Touch: Janna is obsessed with sweets. The most reliable source currently seems to be redfruit, and Janna will go out of her way and provide favors to those that are able to supply her with the fruits.

Personal History & Education

Mother: Holder, b. 05.2560, Deceased - d. 10.2580
Father: Unknown
Grandmother: Temi, Holder, b. 01-2521

Siblings: None.

Children: None.

Craft: Harper

Rank: Jr Apprentice

Date Apprenticed: 2590/12

Specialty: Drum patterns & lute.

Education Details: Janna is quietly excited about her new apprenticeship. It is a sign of growing up and gaining new responsibilities. And while some of the tasks are mundane, the days where she is assigned something new and different make it worthwhile for her.

Tell us a story...

* 2578, 0 - Born to her mother, at Fort Hold. Her father is long gone. Her mother works in the kitchens with Janna's grandmother, and Janna's first year is spent swaddled in a basket near her mother in the kitchens. - - - - - Today, Janna isn't much bothered by her lack of father figure. The ways she sees it the team of staff from the kitchens, many of whom she still knows today, are her extended family, and there are plenty of men and woman that care to fuss over her that one more wouldn't make that much of a difference.

* 2580, 2 - Janna's mother dies. In what should have been a routine trip from hold to wery, Janna's mother is caught in the shoulder by a missed strand of thread. Unable to remove it quick enough, the trhead burrows and kills Janna's mother. Janna's grandmother, Temi, takes over as primary caregiver. - - - - - Janna still becomes upset over this on occasion. Unlike her father who never knew her, Janna knows from her grandmother that her mother adored her. The fact that she was taken from Janna before she properly had a chance to form lasting memories of her seems cruel, but Janna also knows she should be thankful she has any family alive. She knows many that don't.

* 2583, 5 Janna begins lessons with the other children to learn the teaching ballads. This is the first occurrence in Janna's life where she is encouraged to participate and make music, rather than being an audience member for it. She does well compared to a majority of the other children that her age, and much to her grandmother's chagrin, she takes to singing the songs incessantly throughout the day. - - - - - This is when Janna first began to seriously take notice of the harper's that were under the protection of Fort Hold, and set her heart on someday wearing harper blue. Now that she officially is wearing harper blue, she looks back on the memories of her first lessons with fondness.

* 2587, 9 - Janna moves with her grandmother, Temi, from Fort Hold to Fort Island. They are assigned to tight quarters with the other holders and her grandmother is sick for the better part of half-a-turn from the stress of it all. Janna is, understandably, panic stricken that her grandmother is not going to make it and that she will be left by herself in this new and rough-hewn weyr. All turns out fine, however, and her grandmother makes a complete recovery and begins working in the weyr kitchens as a cook. - - - - - While the events at the time were stressful, this has left Janna with a deep-seated worry regarding her grandmother's health. As the one family member she has left, Janna is overly protective of her grandmother now, and at the first sign of any illnesses Janna insists that her grandmother goes to a healer.

* 2588, 10 - Janna begins settling into the weyr. She continues to live with her grandmother, even though the creche is a possible alternative. She becomes a frequent presence in the kitchens and is given the responsibility of delivering meals to the people that the cooks favor. Janna enjoys this fine, as it gives her plenty of time to become intimately familiar with all of the twist and turns of the Weyr, and plenty of opportunities to gather juicy gossip to bring back to the kitchens. - - - - It takes only the better part of a year, but Janna falls in love with the Weyr. If the holders ever do move out, she is not sure if she would be happy to follow them. Luckily, that seems to still be a few turns down the road before that decision needs to be made.

During this same time period, Janna also picks up the odd habit of tailing the crafters dressed in harper blue. In Fort Hold, there was always a specific place she could count on finding a harper, but with no dedicated hall just for them, Janna finds that if she ever wants to hear a new song or story, she will have to seek them out regardless of where they might be.

* 2589, 11 - Janna earns herself the title of 'Little Shadow' from the harpers due to her constant habit of lingering just within earshot of them. One particularly accommodating harper takes note and begins setting aside a few minutes after dinner once or twice a week to teach Janna more songs that are not commonly taught in the standard teaching ballads. They progress this way for a number of months with only their voices, the harper's lute and a haphazardly constructed drum for Janna. - - - - - It is during these lessons and her time around the weyr that Janna begins to form an idea of where her adult life is going to take her. At the time she hopes that the lessons from the harper (to whom she is eternally grateful) will get her enough attention from the harper hall itself that she will be accepted as an apprentice. The lessons give her a sense of purpose and helped keep her mind occupied during more mundane tasks during the day.

* 2590, 12 - Janna becomes of an age where she can enter into a crafter profession. It is little surprise that the harpers embrace her as a jr. apprentice. Janna is very pleased with this new development in her life, even if it means that she will be away from the kitchens and women and men she is better acquainted with.  - - - - - If there is one thing that is always sure to lift her spirits, the memory of being accepted into the harper hall is it! Everything that she had been aiming for over the past two years came to fruition on that day, and the sense of accomplishment that goes along with that is exalting.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

22.6.2589 / 7am

Janna deftly turned to avoid imminent collision with a young rider as she slipped through the weyr hall on her way from the kitchens. Balancing the mugs in one hand and a hot pitcher of klah in the other she ambled through the cavern, and down the hall past the creche to the open training fields.

She paused for but a moment to look up and watch some of the most recently impressed dragons and their riders attempting to put on harnesses, before she turned towards her goal.

According to her gran today was going to be an important day.  “No dawdling,” Janna muttered to herself, echoing her grandmother’s words from not five minutes before. Pulling her eyes from the dragons, which she still had not gotten quite used to, Janna turned and began to follow the path towards the holder caves.

Maeron, (‘Lord Maeron, Janna!’ her grandmother’s voice always reminded her), needed his klah before his important meeting this afternoon. According to the kitchen staff, he was calling all of the holders together for a meeting. Janna, of course, thought this was rather stupid. Didn’t they all live in the weyr now? They didn’t have a hold to be holders of! ‘...well, maybe that is the point…,’ she conceded privately to herself with a small sigh.

She would have to find out where the meeting was taking place, and see if she could sneak away to listen to it.

As she approached her destination, she saw a familiar man walking in the same direction as her. Prost. Not an unfamiliar sight to say the least. The man was always near Maeron, it seemed. It was a good thing her grandmother had the forethought to have sent the extra mugs, the man looked like he could do with a cup of the awful stuff.

Reaching the door to Maeron’s rooms at the same time as the other man, she held the klah and mugs up slightly higher and tilted her head towards the door. “Klah. For Maeron.”

“That’s Lord Maeron, you twerp.”

Janna rolled her eyes. “Klah. For Lord Maeron.”

Hi, Everyone. Nice to meet you. I am excited that I found you!

This brings back memories. I have not RP'ed in quite some time, but back in the day when I was younger Pern RPGs were all that I did with my time. Looking forward to testing the waters here and seeing how it goes.

Outside of RP, I enjoy crafts, just joined an a capella group, play multiple instruments, and have dabbled with martial arts recently.
