« on: November 03, 2018, 03:25:57 AM »
It's already started, but I wanted to give a heads up ( and shout out ) to those that were going to participate. I'm going to try to remain caught up and still post, but I'm going to try and complete this year too. Try to make it a two year streak. 8D

Here be my profile on the site if you'd want to add me as a writing buddy. Good luck to those also writing and to those that are busy with life. :3

OOC Hang Out / OOC Halloween :3
« on: October 29, 2018, 03:20:38 PM »
Heya!

I know a lot of people are busy, with life, school, etc. Just wanted to throw up a little thing to ask how people intend to spend halloween. Dressing up? Passing out candy? watching some movies?

I think all I'm doing this year is eating a bunch of candy, watching scary movies, and maybe playing some DnD. 8D

« on: October 13, 2018, 11:40:31 AM »
It's still the middle of October, but that also had me thinking- it's the middle of October. I already have an idea of what I'm going to do, but I was wondering who else was going to participate. :3 If you had prep to do, or if you're just going to wing it.

As before, I'm happy to set up a pacemaker for those of us who want to do this together. <3

Also, I really thought that this was a neat offer from Tapas ( It's a place I sometimes read things from ).

OOC Hang Out / OOC What does your username mean?
« on: October 11, 2018, 06:27:41 PM »
Pretty self explanatory. Just a silly thread of... well. Yeah. 8D Share!

Long, long time ago, I was going to join a starwars RP. It was new and fancy and shiny, and I wanted a new and fancy name that wasn't associated to, say, my fantasy rp stuff. I also wanted a name I could use that wouldn't pop up with the whole "that name is taken" other places. I messed around with a lot of opposite-ish names, cause I liked the idea of it. Eventually, through thesaurus-ing and creativity, I came upon SanctifiedSavage. I loved it so much, I've been using it for the better part of.... err.... years. 5+

I used to go by Countess, and a couple of other names, because I thought they were  pretty or neat. Just something I liked. However >_> In a lot of places, most were taken or too fantasy-ish that people couldn't figure out how to say them or relate to them. Hence me wanting something that would be uniquely mine and... easy to recognize.

OOC Hang Out / OOC Dragon Rider's of Pern Interview
« on: October 05, 2018, 11:52:58 PM »
I caught ahold of this and wanted to pass it along. I haven't read the book or anything but thought it was still sorta neat.

Interview

Also, movie? o.o

Also, I just wanna quote this because... yeah. That's pretty much it, isn't it?

Quote
A very long time ago, someone asked my mom, "Why dragons?" She said, "What would it be like if you were never ever alone ever again? What would it be like if you had a sentient relationship that was completely unconditional? That you had a bond with another creature that nothing bar death could break it? They loved you warts and all."

OOC Hang Out / OOC SWW Trivia
« on: September 28, 2018, 10:16:17 AM »
This was something I was idly thinking about, and I think it's been tossed up a couple of times, but we thought it might be neat to do a couple different quizzes. I'd thought about running it through google forms, so the answers won't be posted publicly or anything, and we'd just award eggs ( because that's how we roll  ) and people can PM us questions they think would be neat to include. This way, new people could eventually participate - if they wanted, since the answers wouldn't be public anywhere - and it'd just be something fun.

I'd probably want to restrict the questions to things that could be found on the site since Pern information in general can be so conflicting and contradictory. Buut... other than that, whatcha guys think?

Red Riders / Approved Vassatiere [ 10.3.2569 / Red Weyrling ]
« on: September 09, 2018, 08:18:12 PM »

Play By:
Bae Su-ji
Biography

Name:
Vassatiere
Honorific:
Nope
Pronounced:
Vahss-ah-tear
Nicknames:
Vass
Date of Birth:
10.03.2569 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Tillek Hold
Dragon Color:
Red
Impression Age:
2591/22.
Wing Rank:
Weyrling
Weyrmate:
No

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Vassatiere is a small, slight girl at 5’1”. She looks sweet, innocent, and when she keeps her mouth shut, she can easily stand out of the way and blend in with just about everyone else. She’s pretty, when she’s cleaned up, but she’s never looking to draw attention to herself. Her clothes are always bland colors and hide any manner of feminine shape, her long hair is frequently pulled up in a tight bun, and she doesn’t frequently meet anyone’s eyes.

There is some wiry strength to her, from turns upon turns of chores and drudge work, and she’s very quick on her feet when she wants to be. Since arriving at SWW, she’s been able to fill out just a little and gain some color in her face. Otherwise, she’s a bit pale and the sun isn’t her friend.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe:
Vassatiere survived staying out of the way, stealing what she could, and making sure whomever touched her when she didn’t want it, paid for it in blood. She’s got a sharp mouth when provoked, but she didn’t really have the bite to back it up. Not upfront, anyways, so she spent a lot of her time running and hiding. Sleeping in dark nooks and occasionally taking advantage of the few good people in Fort.

Response to dragon color mutations:
The more dragons the merrier, right? She’s always liked the unbridled energy of the Reds and the impressive growth of the Blacks in the weyr. She’d never begrudge someone a dragon though – that’s the ticket to the good life, after all.

Who are you...

Likes:
Independence : Vassatiere will do what she’s supposed to, to get by, to blend in, but she really likes her free time and treasures the ability to decide what to do with it.

Physical Activity : Vassatiere wasn’t ever trained by a harper like some and missed out on those fundamentals – which were supplemented when she became a candidate, but it’s always made her feel inferior to those around her. Thus, she much prefers physical things in which she can be more on par with her peers.

Swimming : In the underground lake, in particular. Getting there might be a little treacherous at times, but it’s always an adventure. The cold water is a reward and the dark tunnels remind her of a safer Fort. She’d never want to go back there, of course, but she likes the sound of water bouncing off of stone and the privacy there. Even better that she frequently swims.

Dislikes:
Farming Work : Vassatiere burns easily in the sun. While she won’t complain – aloud – she doesn’t enjoy working on sunny days outside because her fair skin just turns red and hurts.

Gossip : For as opinionated as Vassatiere is, she hates listening to the opinions of other people because she thinks they’re flawed, wrong, or ignorant. She doesn’t have time to listen to hearsay or rumors.

Comments about her height : She knows she’s short. You don’t have to point it out. It ain’t funny or cute.

Strengths:

* FAST : For her size, Vassatiere is quick on her feet and quick with her hands. It’s what kept her alive during the Pass – having relied so much on only herself.

* DETERMINED : There’s a way to get everything done, even if it isn’t obvious at first. If there’s a problem, she’ll figure a way around it. It might not be morally great or honest, but when she wants something, she’s set about getting it.

* ACTIVE : While she’s fully capable of relaxing, Vassatiere entered Candidacy relatively fit. It’s something she honestly enjoys and a wholesome way for her to spend her time – swimming, training, etc. It’s replaced other, less desirable ways of spending her time like drinking or gambling.

* ROUGH : Growing up in the dark tunnels of Fort wouldn’t be complete without knowing how to fight. She can handle anything sharp that she must to defend herself, and she can react well to attacks to her person. She’s not about to overpower anyone and her reach is very short, so she relies on a quick move or two to disable someone and get out of a situation quick.

* ADAPTABLE : She rolls with the situation and doesn’t really plan ahead. She might have vague wants and wishes, but Vassatiere very much lives and reacts in the moment. This means she thinks well on her feet and doesn’t frequently crack under pressure.

Weaknesses:

* HONEST : Don’t ask her a question you don’t want a jaded, waspish answer to. She’ll be honest, but it’s always from her perspective and she rarely has a good opinion of anyone or any situation.

* DECEPTIVE : Vassatiere looks a lot nicer than she really is. Appearing small, approachable, and even friendly, that immediately changes when she opens her mouth to talk to someone. She doesn’t want anything to do with people unless they have something to offer her.

* ANTISOCIAL : Vassatiere has a hard time working well with other people or even admitting she needs help, especially once she’s impressed to the very willful Ysolth. She’ll need friends, or at least a support system, and learn how to rely on wingmates. It’ll be hard given her past.

* FLUSTERED : When she does become upset or angry, either because she’s frustrated by a particular lesson that isn’t a physical thing ( oral or written lessons ) or an interaction with a person that isn’t going well – and she’s forced to interact with them - she can become easily flustered and frustrated. Her face heats up, her eyes water ( which she absolutely hates ), and it’s hard for her to talk past the lump in her throat. It’s not that she gets sad, it’s more she’s so flustered and upset and becomes further so by her reaction to it.

* PESSIMIST : Life hasn’t been kind to her and she has a difficult time seeing the good in people. Coming out of candidacy with no friends didn’t help ( not that she was friendly >_> ) and she’s always felt like she had to fight against the world. She’s seen too much lying, cheating, stealing, and murder to think the world could ever be a better place.

Describe Yourself:

* SECRETIVE: It is incredibly difficult to get close to Vassatiere. She’s spent a lot of her life keeping to herself and she quite likes it that way. Most don’t know anything about her and when she is approached, what she has to say is to keep people away.

* PROUD: It’s hard for Vassatiere to admit when she’s done something wrong, especially when she’s trying to save face in front of a peer. She’ll come up with excuses, lie, or insult, but she doesn’t want to admit fault.

* QUIETLY AMBITIOUS: Impressing a dragon was something Vassatiere always hoped for, but wasn’t ever really sure it would happen. She wants to be better. To be more than she is, even if she has no idea how to do that or go about it. Being able to impress Ysolth really made her aware that maybe she’s worth more than she thought.

* ENVIOUS: She believes that there are some people who have just had it better than her, and she hates them for it. This stems from a deep rooted envy, having felt her own life was so much a struggle and not having any family to rely on. She’s particularly envious of people who did have a family and she’ll be quick to lash out at them in particular.

* CLEAN: Now that the choice is hers and the opportunity there, Vassatiere always keeps herself clean. Her clothes might be boring and roll, her hair frequently up and out of the way, but she wants to feel good about herself.

The Magic Touch:
It isn’t that she likes alcohol, but she used it as a method of escape. Gambling was just a way to pass the time. She’s not the best gambler either, nor can she really hold her alcohol.

Family...

Mother: Glendrian, drudge, 2554
Father:    Vephan, Journeyman Fisher, b 2548 , d 2578

Siblings:
There are likely siblings, but her mother was never really forthcoming and Vephan was married to another woman, so she never met that side of the family. The only one she’s vaguely aware of is M'kale.

Children: Most of Vassatiere’s sexual relations have been with female whores, when she was at Fort Hold. She’s miscarried once at the weyr, which prevented her from Standing, and since then she’s been a bit physically distant. Thus, no children.

Tell us a story...

* 2569, Birth Vassatiere is born to Glendrian, who is a side mistress to a married Fisher. She hopes that the babe will convince Vephan to either leave his wife or at least provide more so for her and his daughter. The man isn’t really excited about the little girl but, to keep Glendrian quiet, he does provide some extra food and clothes for her and the babe.

* 2572, 3 The arrangement with Vephan from Vassatiere’s birth falls apart when Tillek Hold falls. Glendrian dies from thread and Vephan is left with a little girl he doesn’t want – but still feels responsible for. He ends up dropping her off in one of the orphanages that pop up in Fort as refugees pour into the last remaining Hold. He doesn’t leave his name, but he’s fine leaving her mother’s name with the caretaker of the orphanage.

* 2576, 7 The orphanage falls on hard times and can no longer support itself. The older woman that ran it -Malvynnen – dies and there’s no one willing or able to take over. The children are turned out to the streets and tunnels of Fort. Some are snatched up by gangs, others by brothels, but Vassatiere flees all of that and scrounges for food in the dark. She's too worried about what she's going to do about herself - surviving and not being snatched up by anyone else - that she's never really able to mourn the loss of the woman that had been a motherly figure to her.

* 2579, 10 She gets in her first real fight. Up until now, she’s simply relied on being small and fast to stay out of the way and steal food. Vassatiere finds herself in some other tunnel rat’s territory and the collection of kids tell her to leave the tunnels. Having no where else to really go, she spends weeks evading them until invariably they run into one another stealing from one of the gang’s kitchens. The boy, a little older than her, but just as gaunt and hungry, clearly means to kill her. He chases her down and they scuffle in a small side tunnel, where he draws a sharpened sliver of rock on her – that looks much like a knife – and tries to stab her several times. It’s after many defensive cuts on her hands and arms that she manages to get the rock-knife from the boy and stab him back. The sharp sliver of rock cuts her fingers and palm as she drives it between his ribs. He stops moving, and she leaves him to die in the dark.

* 2581, 12 She learns of another orphanage, this one ran by a lovely couple. Because she’s so small and gaunt, they believe she’s younger than she really is and readily take her in. She’s happy to help around the crowded home, tending to younger children with quiet stoicism. She might come across as harsh, but life isn’t exactly fair. Even so, she finds a relatively peaceful life at the orphanage and considers it, in a way, home.

* 2583, 14 The couple suspect she’s actually an adult now – believing she’s turned twelve – and they start to talk to her about maybe getting married. Moving out and finding her own home. It’s not out of malice or because they don’t care, but because they simply don’t have the space to keep adults with so many needy children. Even so, it feels like rejection and stings. Vassatiere leaves one night without a word and returns to the tunnels she’d left two turns prior.

* 2584, 15 Vassatiere keeps to the shadows and maintains her freedom – but she does run errands for some people. Owing no loyalty to any one gang nor involving herself in those politics, she’s a reliable ‘hired hand’. As reliable as such things are. It’s a way to a better life for her. Newer clothes, better food. Her first taste of alcohol and her first night with a whore. This starts to define her life. Becoming an ‘errand boy’, doing simplified tasks people might otherwise not want to, cleaning rooms in brothels, or even playing lookout. It’s not a great life, but it adds a little more flavor and entertainment into her life. Vassatiere isn’t happy but she wouldn’t have been able to tell anyone what that really meant.

* 2588, 19 Life hasn’t been kind, but she’s not as bad off as some. She’s largely kept to herself and she’d have said she was lonely if she’d ever had anyone close enough to know she was alone. Spending all of her time either taking care of her basic needs, doing the odd jobs to sustain herself, losing herself in drink, or spending nights with whores, the turns blend into a dull shade of gray in her mind. One of the rare days she’s outside and carrying a package of wherskins to a family, a Rider stops her. Seemingly out of nowhere, the woman asks Vassatiere if she’d like to be a Candidate. The rider looks tired, bone weary, and a little rough around the edges, but to Vassatiere, she could’ve been dressed like a proper Lady for how new her leathers seemed and how clean she was. Vassatiere left the package on the street and left with the Rider. Any life had to be better than the one she’d been living.

The weyr is a drastically different change of pace and she becomes quite withdrawn, observing, doing as she’s told, but quietly grateful to be away from the Hold. The only way she knows how to show that gratitude is to do the chores she’s assigned. When the Candidate Master finds out she never had any proper schooling, she’s enrolled in classes along with others, but she struggles through these and is frequently frustrated at her seeming inability to learn math, reading, and writing as well as she did so many hands on tasks.

Vassatiere seeks solace in some of the other candidates in the lessons, and a rider here or there during a flight, and she lands herself pregnant. The experience is awful, she’s miserable, and she ends up in the Healer Hall for a month before she’s eventually told the babe was lost early. That’s surprisingly hard for her to hear and she vows to be more careful so she doesn’t hurt herself in such a way again.

* 2587, 20 The end of the Pass and Vassatiere is quite excited, though ever the one to keep to herself. She helps as much as a Candidate might. A new place seems like a new start, and she’s hopeful – even if she’s not sure what she’s hopeful for. The black mutation is a curiosity, but she’s not as worried as so many.

* 2591, 22 Vassatiere is a little worried about her age and, given how long she’s been standing, she’s still hopeful. Not desperately so, but she holds the hope quiet and intensely close to her heart. Afraid to give voice to her fears, she seems much the same as she always is. Stoic, dutiful, stand offish, and probably a bit snappy when people actually talk to her. Actually impressing is just mindblowing.

Another Hatching. Vassatiere made her way quickly to her room and tried not to listen to the drum of her heart in her ears. This happened every time. The excitement, the rush, the hope. This could be it. This clutch might be the one. It didn’t matter how long she’d been Standing, how many times she pulled on the robes.

Every opportunity on the Sands was a chance for her life to be different.

Arriving wasn’t quite the same as before, since there were Reds already out and they were so… so loud. It made her flinch, upon arrival, but she otherwise tolerated it. In a way, it was… lovely. She was hearing dragons. Excitable, free, cheery creatures without a care in the world. Loud, yes, but there was a strong allure to that sort of careless freedom.

Vassatiere had never been able to just play. Had never had such instant comraderie with anyone, or anything, and she watched them with a sense of envious, almost affectionate awe. If she walked away with nothing else, she’d been gifted with a taste of that freedom. Of that joy.

It really was bittersweet. Getting to hear dragons but know they were not your own. That they would Impress to another and forever be closed off to her. Vassatiere’s eyes tracked each Red as they did Impress. The bitter spike of envy speared her belly, but it didn’t reflect on her expression. She didn’t say anything. Just watched.

One dragon. The second. A third.

Vassatiere wasn’t worried when the Reds approached, and watched so she could see who this next one might Impress.

I’m tired now., one announced as it stood in front of the line up. Broadcasting as it had so far. Gracing them all with his snappy voice. Will you feed me?

That actually made Vassatiere pause. Obviously they couldn’t feed the dragonet before it Impressed, and it was such an odd thing to ask of everyone. If it was hungry, then why didn’t it pick someone already…

You. I’m talking to you., he hissed, the sound filling up Vassatiere’s mind in a way the shouting had not. Blanketing her in an odd warmth. Her body moved of its own accord and, like in a dream, she moved forward to pick him up. Had Ysolth been looking at just her the whole time? Was she actually dreaming?

She wasn’t even aware that the little Red in her arms was telling off his siblings. You have to find yours. Get away. We’re busy.

They.

She’d Impressed.

Move along now. There’s food you are to feed me, he reminded, this time his voice a little quieter, but no less sharp.

Vassatiere held him close and wandered off to the feeding pavilion.

Dragon Details

Name:
Ysolth
Pronounced:
Is-hole-th
Color:
Red
Date of Birth:
24.6.2591
Place of Birth:
SWW
Clutch Mother:
Kalestath
Clutch Father:
Neisoth
Measurements:
Mature Length: 20M
Mature Height: 5M
Mature Wingspan: 36M

General Appearance...

From the moment Ysolth burst from his egg, he was fully in control of his appendages and ready to play. Rough and tumble, the color of deep red wine, there was absolutely no variance in his coloration. He was just a dark dragonet chasing his siblings. As he gets older, he'll lighten up and taken on a richer hue in his wings.

Personality...

Mind Voice:
Ysolth sounds like he's always telling you a secret that you shouldn’t share, and you're both about to get in some wicked fun trouble. There's still a roughness to the sound, some untamable wilderness lingering in the sound of him that could grate on some people's nerves.

Likes:
He's nosy : He wants to know things. Everything, but mostly pointless things. Things people don't usually want to share. Secrets are the best, and he wants to know everyone's. Things that are well known around the weyr have little interest to him.

Chasing things : Ysolth is an active dragon, and has been from the moment he hatched. While his wings are quite proportioned for his body, he still likes to dash about. Flits are his favorite to chase. He promises not to eat them.

Fighting : He calls it wrestling. Others would call him a bully. He doesn't say mean things, but this Red likes to put his claws and mouth to good use.

Dislikes:
Gold's Command : It's a good thing that a dragon's memory isn't too long. He doesn't exactly remember Kalestath's hold on him from birth, but it's left a lasting disdain for being forced into anything - he doesn't like not having a choice.

Whining : Ysolth doesn't have time to listen to anyone complain, and he definitely doesn't care to hear it. He loses interest and will simply exit the conversation.

Strengths:

* SCRAPPY : Ysolth isn't afraid of much. Bigger dragons? Being hurt? Monsters in the jungle? Crazy Golds? Nope. He'll charge head long into all of it with an eagerness bordering on suicidal. He doesn't really have a sense of fear or self-preservation, but he's quite willing to do just about anything that sounds fun or dangerous.

* ENERGETIC : Ysolth has the stamina of a dragon much larger than him. When his wings wear out, he'll be quick to transfer to the ground and keep going. He wants to show that he can keep up with the best of them - and he will be able to do well for a dragon his size when he gets older.

Weaknesses:

* WILLFUL : Ysolth has a real problem with authority. Whether it's outright disobedience or taking it all a joke. He really doesn't like being told what to do and it's like trying to hold onto sand sometimes.

* WASPISH : Ysolth has a temper, for a dragon, and he can be snappy to those that annoy or bother him - which can be easy to do if you're trying to strong-arm him into doing anything he doesn't want to or whining about him trying to play.

Dragon Speech Code: This is what your dragon's voice will look like. Background: #2e060d; Text: #ff220c

Family & Friends / OOC Old flames and all the friends - Niema
« on: September 02, 2018, 12:47:32 AM »

"I don’t know if I believe in love at first sight, but of course I believe in having chemistry right away. When I lose track of time because we’ve been talking, that’s the best, that’s really fun."

Niema // Beach Wingrider // 21

About the Character:
Niema is an objectively pretty lady, and she knows it. Weyr life suits her and she’s a highly physical person. Up until 10.08.2589, Niema was content to flit from bedfur to bedfur when the mood suited. While she is now with K'mar ( played by Lyndi ) on a permanent basis, she’d still have a plethora of old lovers and friends from before she hooked up with the Brown Rider. She’s prone to laying out in the sun, with her dragon, when the weather is suited for it and will definitely encourage people to join her.

Wanted:
This is a pretty vague request, but I’d just like more people to play with her. As stated above, old lovers and friends. Past threads are good to go too. She’s very friendly and I’d like to expand her social circle. I’d also take creche-siblings for her. She’s probably related to some people, but she was raised in the creche and doesn’t really know her parents outside of their names. Though I’m cool with sibling interactions too.

About the only thing I don’t want is messing up her relationship with K'mar. Though making him flustered is always fun.

Lemme know if you’re interested and we can talk plots.

Depending on how involved a character is going to be with Niema, they don’t have to be adoptable since they’ll just be friends. <3

Blue Riders / Approved P'ar [ 02.02.2562 / Blue Rider ]
« on: August 14, 2018, 11:13:05 AM »

Play By:
Sunny Wang
Biography

Name:
Praekar
Honorific:
P’ar
Pronounced:
Par, like Parr for the course. 8D
Nicknames:
Prae, when he was growing up. But his name is already sorta short so…
Date of Birth:
02.02.2562 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Weyr
Dragon Color:
Blue
Impression Age:
2575 / 13
Wing Rank:
Mountain Wingrider
Weyrmate:
Eeehhhhhh.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: P’ar is a neat, organized individual and it usually reflects in his clothes and how he takes care of himself. He keeps his riding leathers well oiled and tends to keep his casual clothes utilitarian, but still well cared for and clean. It’s not so much because he’s overly concerned about being cleanliness, but because he doesn’t like doing nothing in his off time and enjoys spending his quiet time tending to himself, his things, or his dragon. Not based on narcissism so much as a desire to be good to himself.
Standing at a modest 5’5”, he’s built like many a rider. Spending a Pass fighting thread doesn’t lend itself to a slothy lifestyle and habits have already been formed to keep himself fit – even when he’s out and about exploring Pern.
P’ar keeps his hair scruffy, to about the top of his ear length, with some dusting of facial hair along his jaw when he’s been away for awhile. He usually shaves once he gets back and grooms himself up, but he thinks the facial hair makes he look a tad rugged.
Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: P’ar and his family felt like they had to do everything they should toward helping others survive. Born into the crech, he considered his family to be the others he grew up with and those that took care of them. He always felt a sense of duty to the weyr and a desire to give back, whether that meant impressing a dragon as soon as he could to help fight thread, or be one of the many workers in the weyr. He might’ve been among one of the many scared candidates on the sands, but he wanted to face his fears and be brave for all the other riders in the sky.
Response to dragon color mutations: Politicking was never in P’ar’s wheelhouse and he’s never been an ambitious man, so he doesn’t understand the hubbub. When pressed about his opinion, he’s likely to flash a smile, make some sort of neutral comment, and quickly slink out of the conversation. To P’ar, all dragonriders are brethren to be respected and are bound together by duty. If that means they’re on a different, odd color… well, that’s ok. Or it should be, right?

Who are you...

Likes:
Tasks : Be it tending to himself, his dragon, his things, or just being assigned jobs by his Wing, P’ar likes having a sense of purpose and something to do. It’s simply fulfilling for him and gives him a sense of direction. It doesn’t have to be some grand plan, he just likes to have a plan.
Alone Time : While he does enjoy being part of the weyr and the sense of comradery that brings, he finds he relishes the quiet the Interval has brought. There’s nothing quite like watching the wind blow across the barren plains of Pern and it tugs at the wanderlust in his heart. It might be depressing to some, but to P’ar, he sees nothing but a canvas of potential and a landscape of possibilies.
Quiet Affection : He will never be the sort to sing and dance aloud at a harper festival or declare at the top of his lungs his love for someone. Rather, he would much prefer the early morning words whispered beneath bedfurs and the soft laughs shared in pillowtalk. Some might call him a romantic, he would say he has simple, private pleasures. You won’t catch him messing about in the hotsprings.
Dislikes:
Slackers : A quick way to get on his bad side is not pull your own weight. The world is falling apart and it’s all hands on deck. If you can’t contribute, then what are you really bringing to the world? While he thinks everyone has the potential to be great, he also thinks that there are certainly those that are wasting that potential. He purposefully steers clear of such people.
Feeling Left Out : While P’ar might like exploring Pern and mapping the world, he doesn’t like being gone for too long. Being away from the weyr for a length of time makes him feel disconnected and, sometimes, left out of his home at large. He spends his days off reconnecting with friends long into the night, if they’ll allow, pestering them during meal times, and in general being quite social to fill the void that has grown in him while he’s away.
Holders : It’s not that he doesn’t think they don’t contribute to the weyr, but his opinions of them have become jaded. Fort Hold seemed abysmal to him and his opinions didn’t really improve when they all moved together in Southern Winds, where it was all met with complaints about how the Weyr worked. He’s never heard so many people whine about surviving before.
Strengths:
* INDEPENDENT : P’ar can be trusted, and expected, to do what he is told and can handle himself quite well when he is alone. He doesn’t panic easily and finds some solace in the time he is alone – to a point. He’s not about to go start his own weyr.
* PATIENT : P’ar isn’t ever really rushed when it comes to things and even in high stress situations, he keeps a cool head. Nothing tends to faze or annoy him and most insults don’t stick. He can be eternally patient for those that need him to do something, when he is put to a task, or when he is helping someone. He’s got all the time in the world when it comes to being with, or doing things with, people.
* WARM : P’ar can be quite affectionate, to both friends and lovers, and while he might not always express himself verbally, he always tries to let people know when they mean something to him. Either because he makes time for them in his life, he is there for them when he can be ( when he’s at the weyr ), or he enjoys physical contact. If you’re a friend, expect hugs.
* DISCIPLINED : P’ar has grown up in the weyr and had always had a sense of duty in him, even as a little boy. He’s wanted to contribute and has always taken being a Rider seriously. He’s not as strict or stringent as a brown rider, but he steers away from things that might otherwise compromise his desire to be a good rider.
* STRAIGHTFORWARD : He’s not good at mincing words and there isn’t a deceptive bone in his body. He’s just not good at lying, being manipulative, and he’s never seen the reason for it. Rather, he’d much prefer to share a cup of water and have a real conversation. Get to know one another. Be friends. You can’t be friends if you’re not really meeting someone.
Weaknesses:
* PASSIVE : P’ar takes life in stride and has no ambitions. He likes plans, but he is rarely the one that creates them, and he lets life, and those with rank, direct them as they may. This could be annoying to those that think he should be doing more with his life, or might see his passive nature to mean he doesn’t care about his place in life or what he does with it.
* BLUNT : What friends he does have know he’s not going to mince words and those in authority over him know to expect P’ar is going to tell it as he sees it. That doesn’t mean that’s always the reality of it – it’s just how P’ar sees the situation. He’s not trying to be cruel, but he’s going to be honest. Even if it’s going to be painful.
* DISTANCED : P’ar can be hard to get to know, because he’s frequently away from the weyr, and he doesn’t expect anyone to want to be close to him. He has a lot of ‘surface’ friends. People he is friendly towards and people he wants to see when he’s away from the weyr, but he wouldn’t be able to say he’s ever been in love with someone because he wouldn’t know how to go about explaining it.
* RESTLESS : P’ar doesn’t always know when to quit and when he should allow himself to sleep. This isn’t so bad when he’s away from the weyr and he can roam and he has to hold himself to task, so they don’t lose themselves between, but when he’s back at the weyr he doesn’t want to sleep a miss a moment. He stays up and watches the comings and goings if there isn’t anyone to talk to. So his ‘break’ is usually pretty exhausting and not really restive.
* CRITICAL : Not of everyone else, but of himself, and he takes criticisms of himself very hard. It doesn’t even have to be from someone of authority. He tries very hard to be a good rider and he takes such things to heart. Those are the only insults, even casually spoken, that might get to him. He won’t lash out at whomever is critiquing him, but he’ll spend a lot of time dwelling on it.
Describe Yourself:
* DULL : P’ar is not the most exciting of people and those looking for a wild, good time won’t find it here. He’s a simple man, at heart, and is easily content with simple things in life. This means he misses out on a lot of things and parties just aren’t his forte – neither are harpers. Music doesn’t resonate with him and you won’t catch him tapping his toes to anything. He likes being around people, but he most definitely is not the life of the party. In that, he doesn’t stick out and he is – sadly enough – easy to forget. The friends he has may be hard pressed to remember when he’s gone, or how long he’s been gone for.
* OPTIMIST: He has an eternal hope that the world will eventually be a better place even though he sees barren landscapes frequently. They aren’t a source of distress or melancholy for him, but plains of possibility. He hopes to see the expansion of the people of pern in his lifetime.
* ATTENTIVE: The relationships that P’ar manages to cultivate mean a lot to him, and he treasures them immensely. It chases away the loneliness and he can be, sometimes, clingy without realizing it.
* CONTENT: P’ar is perpetually happy with whatever life gives him. He could have one friend, nothing but strict rations, and work all day in the mines and he’d be thankful for it all. That he has more than that is something to be grateful for, and he very much is. He’s not one that is always seeing -more-, but is always happy with what he has.
* CALM: Anyone could count on one hand the number of times P’ar has been angry. He just doesn’t get mad. Upset, maybe. Disappointed, perhaps. But he doesn’t feel anger. It’s just not in his spectrum of emotions unless it is something… major. The most recent was the riot by the holders, and even that had just been him huffing and scowling a bit afterwards, but it’d blown over rather quickly.
The Magic Touch: P’ar, like many a Rider from the Pass, has a myriad of threadscores along his torso. Too many to name individually, but he’s not self conscious about them. Being a man of simple pleasures, he doesn’t drink alcohol or klah. About the only flavored drink he does consume is the occasional fruit drink. He largely prefers water though.

Family...

Mother: Praellynna. Weyrfolk. B. 2542
Taemmeica. Creche Worker. B. 2530 D. 2583
He was named after his mother and father, but he was raised by creche workers and never had contact with his father and only knew his mother during the first couple turns of his life. Taemmeica was one of the creche workers he was closest to and had the most motherly presence in his life. I've noted her death date, but he didn't know when she passed, nor does he know when his father died. He's not even aware that his mother is still alive, and it's highly unlikely that she knows that he's alive or that they'd recognize one another as family.
Father: R’kar. Brown Rider. B. 2540 D. 2580
Siblings: Innumerable children in the creche. Will allow this to fill up with adoptables.
Children: He probably has a handful, as he’s participated in Flights, but he’s never maintained contact and they’ve been dropped off into the creche, as that’s where he grew up.

Tell us a story...

* 2562 - 2567 , 0-5
Praekar is born to a weyrfolk woman after a sweet tryst with a brown rider. Praellynna and R'kar had a sweet romance for a little while, but it didn't last though a babe did result of their union. She named her son after both herself and his father, though she help raise him in the creche in his early turns. Praellynna spent a lot of her time working for the weyr outside, so she wasn't always there for her son growing up, but that never really bothered him. He had plenty of 'siblings' growing up and he never held it against his mother, or father, for doing what he was told their duty to the weyr. The various creche workers were sweet and kind to him and easily filled the parental roles he might've been lacking otherwise, just as other children became his surrogate siblings. He had the usual squabbles a little boy might with other children his age, but P'ar would look back on growing up in the creche with extreme fond memories - because of how innocent and sweet a time it was for him.
* 2568 - 2573 , 6 - 11
Praekar's personality begins to really shine through as he grows into a responsible young boy. He wants to help the creche workers with chores more than he wants to play and he takes his harper lessons very seriously. It isn't that the little boy doesn't know how to play, it's just that he wants to help, he wants to give back. Praekar is still prone to bouts of foolishness, as little boys are wont to do, but he's still rather serious for a little boy. The reality and seriousness of the Pass can't be fully comprehended at this age, but he understands that the Weyr is important to him and he does care about everyone in in - even the people that might otherwise want to spend all their time messing around. He's one of those little boys that's apt to tattle tale if someone isn't doing what they're supposed to, which makes him friends with a responsible crowd and keeps him out of a lot of trouble. This is still a sweet part of his life that, while he's beginning to see some of the harsher realities of life, he's not expressly shying away from them. Rather, he's wanting to become a responsible member of the weyr.
* 2574 - 2575, 12 - 13
While it was quite a surprise to Praekar, it wasn't to many that knew him that he was searched shortly after his twelfth name day. As soon as he started taking Candidate lessons, Praekar decided he wanted to be a dragon rider. Exposed to the now very real realities of what was going on, how dire the situation was and what the dragon riders were doing to protect them all, Praekar wanted to be apart of that. He doesn't impress on the first batch of clutches he stands for, and this really helps him grow. Mellow out some and learn to handle some rejection. Of course he's rather disappointed he doesn't impress right away, but he soon finds contentment in doing whatever he can for the weyr. It's a mellowing time for him in that he learns a great deal of patience in a short span and, through candidate lessons, comes to understand that if a dragon is out there for him, he'll impress it when the dragon comes along by being himself, not by somehow willing it to happen. In that, he soon becomes quite happy in the chores and work he's able to do around the weyr as that's his way of contributing while he waits, now patiently, for his dragon. He makes a handful of friends and, oddly enough, quite enjoys life despite how terrible life is on pern. Toward the end of his thirteenth turn, he does impress. To the ponderous Blue Zeketh.
* 2576-2578, 14-16 Weyrlinghood is a trying time for P'ar and Zeketh, and another test of his patience. Zeketh is a sweet and determined blue, but he is also very deliberate and slow in his words. To some, it might seem like the Blue doesn't care about the things he does or what he is saying, but rather, that's just how... He is. In a time of high stress and trying to train weyrlings as quick as possible to survive an admittedly shitty situation, there isn't a lot of patience extended to them, or Zeketh. So while the Blue might be an adept flier, and P'ar a studious and eager Rider, they often find themselves doing errands or doing runner-up tasks in whatever is needed. This doesn't stop them from trying, and practicing, and wanting to prove that they can fly thread with the rest of their classmates. None of this upsets P'ar, but rather makes him determined to do his best. This is a very self critical time for P'ar, and it still resonates really hard for him even now. While Zeketh never feels the same as his Rider, and never did, P'ar strove to show others that he and his dragon weren't somehow lacking.
* 2579 - , 2584, 16 - 21
P'ar and Zeketh are passed for graduation, either because they really proved to the weyrlingmasters they were good enough or because they simply needed every able body in the sky. Whatever the reason, P'ar and Zeketh do take to the sky - though it is always in the tail end of a formation so Zeketh isn't relied upon to relay any information. This placement doesn't bother P'ar or his Blue in the slightest. The pair of them are just happy to be able to do what they've been trained to do, and they do it rather well. Zeketh, for all his failings otherwise, is a remarkable flier and can sustain himself in long threadfalls. There are some injuries during some falls, but it's rather common enough that other riders are too, injured, but there's nothing that is completely debilitating and P'ar heals quick. Every time they are taken out of the sky on injury, they are fast to return as soon as possible. It is a terrible time, in the grand scope, but P'ar finds fulfillment in being able to be a wingrider.
* 2587, 24
The end of the Pass is a welcomed thing to the Blue Rider, who never thought he'd live to see the end of Thread. He's elated even more so when a new, flourishing home is found, and happily spends a lot of time ferrying people and supplies to and from the island. During this time, he pretty much does whatever he can to help out. Being a taxi, helping with manual labor, whatever is required. Eventually, as wing placements are passed out, he's marked to test for Mountain Wing. He doesn't know what that really might be, but he and Zeketh take the test and - since it's a flying test - easily pass. The only stipulation, then, is that they must obtain a flit and train it to communicate with the Wingleader. Obtaining a flit is easy. The egg hatches into a lady green and P'ar promptly names her Meica - after one of the women that raised him in the creche.  She's a tiny creature that he takes to immediately, but training her takes a little time. She's energetic and eager, but easily distracted as a babe flit, but eventually, through patience and time, Meica enables him to officially join Mountain Wing.

The appearance of a Black dragon doesn't particularly upset P'ar and he's rather happy he's in a Wing that doesn't seem to feel a way either.

* 2588 - Present, 25+
P'ar and Zeketh have seemed to find a place, and Wing, that don't mind his dragon's ponderously slow way of speaking and they're able to feel like they really belong. Not as a last place, but as a fully contributing member of a wing. In that, P'ar highly values his place in his Wing and would do nothing to jeopardize that. He loves his time away from the Weyr, as it makes him appreciate the times when he's back even more.

So many of the other eggs had already Impressed and the bonded ushered off the Sands to start their new lives. There was only two eggs left that hadn’t hatched yet, though they shook and cracked with the promise of new life within. The murmuring in the Stands, however, was for the unmoving dragonet who had spilled from his shell some marks ago.

Marks. Had it really been that long? Praekar’s feet felt like they were on fire from standing on he hot sand for so long, but he’d remain as long as he had to. Just like all the other hopeful – or terrified – candidates, they didn’t dare leave while there were still eggs left. Or, in this case, a dragonet that might still impress.

At least, if the dragonet was still alive. The Gold Queen didn’t seem distressed nor did she nose the hatchling in concern. Rather, she remained an ever vigilant presence over the remaining two. Watching, instead, the two eggs that still shook and occasionally peeped. Their dragonets were certainly animated and ready to meet the world. Praekar wasn’t sure... what was going on with the other one. Almost white, the little Blue was so pale. He could tell he was breathing, but the breaths didn’t seem to be quick or struggling.

Was the Blue asleep?

For some reason, that sheer idea actually had Praekar smiling just a little. Then, thinking that might be wildly inappropriate at a hatching, he quickly covered his mouth with both hands. He didn’t want the Queen to think he thought her clutch amusing or accidentally insult her. One of the candidates next to him cast a glance his way and frowned, but Praekar intentionally didn’t look at him.

Then, in a rush of activity, one of the other eggs cracked open and spilled forth a peeping, flailing baby dragon. No matter the fuss its sibling was causing, the pale little blue didn’t move. Didn’t even look. His eyes were open, though, and he seemed to be aware. Praekar didn’t know what he was doing, but he decided the pale blue must be tired from all that hatching he’d done before.

It had to have been another mark or a mark and a half – Praekar’s feet were going to melt – when the other egg started to really crack open. Still the Queen didn’t seem concerned about her unmoving blue hatchling, but watching the splitting egg with interest. Just as Praekar was shifting his weight to his toes, trying to peer around some shell remains to see what might be coming out of the new egg, did he feel some sort of weight settle on his head.

Like a headache that didn’t hurt or a sinus congestion, but the pressure was everywhere. I’m covered in sand. I don’t like it over here. The voice was soft and murmured slowly. Enough so that Praekar almost thought he’d thought it. Even though it made absolutely no sense. Then he thought maybe one of the candidates near him had said it under their breath and the odd headache was affecting his sense of hearing. Instead, his confused looking about had the other candidates looking at him like he’d been the weird one saying odd things.

P’ar... get the sand off... Again, the voice. Not more insistent or even louder, but he knew the thoughts weren’t his. Instead, he looked back to the pale blue whose head had lifted and was now looking at him. How Praekar knew the little blue was looking expressly at him, he wasn’t... entirely... sure, but he knew. As though to confirm, and emphasize the thoughts, the pale blue lifted his wings in what had to be a comical parody of a shrug and let out a low trill. I don’t like the sand. And I’m hungry.

Praekar, now P’ar, smiled with the corner of his mouth and purposefully made his way toward the little blue. He didn’t run – he didn’t want the Queen to be upset – while he picked his way through the shards of shell so he could go dust off the now mostly dried off blue and, only once he was satisfied, lead him to where the food was.

Place of Birth:
Fort Weyr
Clutch Mother:
Sabrith
Clutch Father:
Davoruth
Measurements:
Mature Length: 28M
Mature Height: 4M
Mature Wingspan: 53M

General Appearance...

Zeketh hatched a very pale blue with absolutely no color variation. At first, he looked almost white and certainly unhealthy. He was small, a little disproportionate with a short neck, quite a long tail, and gangly wings. He didn't even move for the longest time after he'd struggled out of his egg. It was only after he'd dried out considerably that he cried out for Praekar, now P'ar, to come clean him off and feed him. As Zeketh grew, he eventually took on a lot of darker blue highlights and darker wings. While he's never really became a well-proportioned dragons, his larger wings have served him well.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Zeketh’s voice is slow, low, and ponderous. If you’re not used to it, he could probably talk you to sleep. He doesn’t say anything quickly and when he does talk, it is after deliberation and with purpose. There isn’t a lot of inflection and there isn’t ever any excitement to his tone.
Likes:
Sunbathing : He is a relaxed dragon and if there’s time, he absolutely adores being able to nap in the sun. He’s not lazy, mind, but he does enjoy getting to sun himself when they’re back at the weyr on their days off.
Long Flights : Rather than go between, Zeketh would much rather fly there. With his large wings, for his size, he can glide for days ( an exaggeration ) but he can glide and fly for a long time. The best thing is the slow, lazy flights he can take around the weyr.
Dislikes:
Water : He doesn’t swim and he doesn’t want to know how. He detests the cove, the sand, and everything having to do with it except the fish. He’ll eat those. The salt dries him out terribly.
Sharing his ledge : Zeketh really likes his ledge to be his own. He’s not normally a picky dragon when it comes to personal space, but he is about his ledge. Given that he’s not overly social anyways, he likes to keep his ledge to himself.

Strengths:
* STAMINA : One of Zeketh’s favorite things to do is flying and he excels at it. He’ll never be the fastest dragon, or the strongest, but he’ll be one of the last blues in the sky.
* SPATIAL ORIENTATION : Zeketh isn’t easily confused in the air and maintains formations and his place among other dragons easily. He’s a very self possessed creature in the sky – not exactly nimble but able to perceive how he needs to naturally move to not be in the way.
Weaknesses:
* NONCOMMUNICATIVE : Zeketh speaks slowly and is slow to translate orders to other dragons. This makes him terrible in being a key member in anything relating to relaying information.
* UNINTERESTED : Zeketh seems largely disinterested in other dragons and Flights. He occasionally participates, but most of the time he watches them with a sort of curious detachment. This makes him a bit of an oddity to other dragons, particularly females because he just doesn’t seem to care about them.

Meica
Pronounced:
May-kah
Color:
Green
Date of Birth:
2587 9th Interval
Place of Birth:
Southern Winds Weyr

General Appearance...

Mind Voice: Meica is a very adept communicator and does so with trained thoroughness. Coupled with her perfect memory, she's able to convey whatever it is she needs to, or wants to, so long as it can be done with images.

Likes:
Playing : Particularly catch. She likes when P'ar will throw small things up in the air for her to catch before they hit the ground.

Hunting : Spinners in particular. They're her favorite snack.

Dislikes:
Eggs : Meica frequently eats her own clutch and has to be chased away from her own eggs if they are to be salvaged.

Long flights : She can't keep up with Zeketh, so she doesn't even try. She's more apt to sit on the Blue then even bother.

OOC Hang Out / OOC Dragon's Code by Gigi McCaffrey
« on: August 11, 2018, 11:16:57 AM »
So, there's going to be another Pern book coming out by Anne's daughter, Gigi. I'd read the synopsis, that I'll quote below, and it doesn't actually look that bad. It comes out in Oct. Curious if anyone else might think about reading it.

Dragon's Code on Amazon
Quote
A new hero emerges in a divided world as one of sci-fi’s most beloved series—Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern—relaunches with this original adventure from Anne’s daughter, Gigi McCaffrey.

In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the Dragonriders of Pern series, Gigi does her mother proud, adding to the family tradition of spinning unputdownable tales that recount the adventures of the brave inhabitants of a distant planet who battle the pitiless adversary known as Thread.

The last time Thread attacked Pern, the world was unprepared for the fight—until the Oldtimers appeared. These courageous dragonriders arrived from the past, traveling four hundred years to help their descendants survive. But the collision of past and present took its toll. While most of the displaced rescuers adapted to their new reality, others could not abide the jarring change and found themselves in soul-crushing exile, where unhappiness and resentment seethed.

Piemur, a journeyman harper, also feels displaced, cast adrift by the loss of his spectacular boyhood voice and uncertain of his future. But when the Masterharper of Pern sees promise in the young man and sends him undercover among the exiled Oldtimers, Piemur senses the looming catastrophe that threatens the balance of power between the Weyrs and Holds of Pern.

When the unthinkable happens, Piemur must rise to the challenge to avert disaster and restore honor to the dragons and dragonriders of Pern. Because now, in a world already beset by Thread, another, more insidious danger looms: For the first time in living memory, dragons may be on the verge of fighting dragons.

Deltiath’s Flight

18.5.2591 / 9PM

Deltiath has faffed about all day and poor A'yara has been as patient as she can be. I’m sure all of Jungle Wing was quite aware, though they of course behaved during drills and hunting. That being said, the Green Lady took Flight in the evening which means it could be some fun for awhile. At least, that’s what A'yara is hoping for.

Deltiath is not a force catch and enjoys dragons she’s familiar with and those that dote and compliment her. Should be fun. <3

OOC Hang Out / OOC Flight Rising - Share your dragons <3
« on: June 24, 2018, 02:59:15 PM »

I'm replacing and updating our old FR thread because, well, it's just a spam of dragons - which this one will eventually be - but we're going to keep this main post updated with current member's usernames and links to their pages as well as nesting preferences etc. Anyways! Dragons!

Feel free to post free babies, babies for sale, dragons you think are cool, and anything related to Flight Rising here. If you are accepting babies or have a preference for certain kinds, you can let us know and we will list them below your FR username too. :P

I'll kick it off <3

FR Lairs

SanctifiedSavage // FR SanctifiedSavage
Lair Preference : Blacks, Whites, and Reds <3
Note : I usually give away any hatchlings I have because otherwise I exalt them to the Plague Mama. 8D

SirAlahn // FR Zapkilikan
Lair Preference : Blues, Greens, and Whites; I'm especially a sucker for Imperials...
Note : Any dragon without a familiar is one I'm willing to give away or sell. I'll happily send one along to anyone who wants one, even if it's currently listed on the AH. ^_^

sucrechat // FR Kryn
Lair Preference : Color-coordinating dragons in the main Pernese dragon colors (Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, Green) and maybe even SWW specific dragons (Black/Red)
Breeds: Mirrors/Snappers (Watch-wher), Guardians/Nocturnes/Pearlcatchers (dragons), and Faes (Flits)

Also Wildclaws in Wherry colors!
Note : My Weyr is entirely going to be Pern-themed dragons, and this account is super new, so donations are appreciated!  I'll be earning treasure slowly so I'll eventually be able to buy dragons.

Drewliet // FR drewliet
Lair Preference : I'm still trying to decide what I want as far as breeds and colors and patterns go. I was given a few free dragons and am just kinda establishing my stock from them, as well as making my starters fancy. Two of my newest babies Arataki and Isavar are going in a direction that I'm liking.
Note : Feel free to dump anything unwanted on me! I'm still trying to figure out how best to farm treasure and such so any hints and tips for that is appreciated also.

Inki // FR Qara and Inkith
Lair Preference : White/Black and White/Black/Red/Green
Note : I mostly lost interested in FR, so if you want any of my durgems just say the word and I'll pass them over to you for free. Otherwise, I'll probably only halfheartedly continue playing just when I'm bored, I might only focus on Qara rather than Inkith. So just hit me up if you ever need anything and I'll let you know.

Appearance: Standing at a modest 5'5", she still manages to seem taller than she really is. Her personality fills whatever room when she walks in, be it with a smile or the loud snap of her anger. Nothing about Oppesine is mellow, demure, or understated. She likes bright colors - or what passes for bright on Pern - so reds and oranges, and generally in dress form of various cuts and designs. She's not overly picky about clothes so long as they meet the previous criterion. Her dark brown hair is naturally wavy and she leaves it down, where it reaches just past her hips.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Oppesine is of the firm belief that there are those strong enough to use other people, and then there are those meant to be used. This was never more apparent than during the Pass, when things were at their worst. Rather than become one of those that would be used, Oppesine became one of those that orchestrated the use of people at the profit of her and her family. While she wouldn't have been able to do it on her own, having the backing of her family enabled her to thrive where others might not have. And she's perfectly fine using people.

Response to dragon color mutations: She wished that fire lizards came in different colors. Is there a way to make them change too? Because that would be neat to her. Otherwise, she doesn't really understand what the whole fuss is. It's just color.

Who are you...

Likes:
Attention : Oppesine flourishes under attention, like any experienced harper during a play. She quite enjoys when all eyes are on her, even if it might not be for a good reason.

Music : She doesn't have an ear for it, or the ability to play herself, but Oppesine has a weakness for music when it's played well. She absolutely hates when it's not though and she'll loudly let you know if you're terrible.

Gifts : Especially flowers. They don't have to be elaborate or anything like that, especially since flowers can be hard to find currently, but she likes flowers. Their fleeting beauty is a treasured marvel to her. She will accept just about any and all presents though.

Family: Obviously, but she does quite like them as people too. She'd do a lot for them, even if she'd complain the entire time.

Dislikes:

Babies / children : of any shape, size, or relation. Even her own. They're loud, they're demanding of her time that she doesn't want to give, and they're dirty. She's pawned her children off on her whores because she can't be bothered.

Flit Eggs : To eat. It might be a thing that some Holders have picked up out of necessity, but it's a barbaric practice that she heavily scorns. Having 4 flits of her own, she's not about to allow such a practice around herself.

Wher Fights : She doesn't really like watching the fights - they're too brutal for her - and she just ends up feeling bad for the poor wher that ends up losing. She'd much rather not watch, or be around, for the fights.

Strengths:

* MEMORY : She says she has a perfect memory, which is a beautiful lie, but she's not far from the mark. She has a great mind for faces and even better at putting names to them. Cross her, in any way, and she'll remember you for turns and turns to come. It's the quickest way to make an impression on her.

* MASK : Her whores call her the Actress. Not because she's a performer or has harper training, but because there are layers to her moods and masks she hides behind. She might be angry and you'll never know until she's manifest it in a way that benefits her. False smiles seem real, she can cry on command when it benefits her, and her moods firmly under her control - even if it might seem contrary to the case.

* EDUCATED : With only a basic harper education that everyone else received, she's actually quite good at mental math and a quick study. There's a reason she was selected to 'managed the books' so they say. Between her memory and retained education, she's rather book smart.

* SILVER TONGUE: She's charming, when she tries. Whether it's because she has a pretty face, an easy smile, or an infectious laugh, she's just easy to be around. Small, unthreatening, people are disarmed and find themselves smiling right along with her. Especially since she flatters easy and it seems genuine.

* CLEAN : It's important to her, and in her line of work, that things be clean. People, clothes, rooms, whatever it is, she's got a pretty high standard. And if people don't clean themselves, she'll do it. And you won't like it.

Weaknesses:

* ALCOHOL : She is an alcoholic with a real problem. She has little tolerance and can become quite belligerent. Her 'class', if she had any to begin with, and composure are a thing of the past when she starts drinking. And she does so enjoy drinking.

* SHAMELESS : One could argue this is a strength, but her family and friends would argue otherwise. She doesn't understand the concept that there are just some things, personal business and the like, that shouldn't be aired in public. Public displays of affection aren't taboo to her and social norms have never meant anything to her. It's almost like she needs a handler to remind her that some things are best left behind closed doors.

* WEAK : Her bark is infinitely worse than her bite. She talks a good game, and she can certainly pull strings to get things done, but she doesn't know how to fight. She's a 'lover', not a fighter. At least, at base.

* VIOLENT : With an explosive temper and that she has no idea how to fight, the fact that she can be moved to violence is not something in her favor. At all. But she's quite satisfied in hitting, screaming, and taking her anger out on things. Whether they deserve it or not.

* ESTABLISHING BOUNDARIES : Once she has decided to trust someone, or let them close, she had trouble establishing any sort of healthy boundaries. The people near and dear to her can easily take advantage of her, and she will allow it. Though she might huff, puff, and scream, she can be quite easily manipulated if people know how to play her - or they just push enough.

Describe Yourself:

* HEARTLESS : It takes a certain flavor of person to manage people and sell them to other people. There is a close group of people that she cares about, but beyond that, she is quite heartless. Easily disassociated from seeing the people she manages as anything other than property, which enables her to manage them quite well and not get hung up about it.

* PASSIONATE: Oppesine feels everything deeply. Love, hate, happiness, betrayal. The whole gambit of emotion runs through her hot and on a wide spectrum. When she does feel things for someone or something, that is.

* COMPARTMENTALIZED: Business is business, friends are friends, and family is family. She doesn't have problems keeping these things separate. Don't think for a second just because she's friendly with you that you matter to her if you're a business associate or if you're one of her whores. Conversely, she'll do just about anything for family because they are family - if it were life or death, of course. Getting into one of these 'groups' in her mind is difficult - just as it's difficult to fall out of them. Friends are friends, for better or worse, and she'll martyr herself for family.

* FOLLOWER: She enjoys managing people and she'll protect what assets are hers - in a round about way, but she doesn't like making really big picture decisions. Especially if those decisions affect people she perceives as friends. She can be wishy washy, indecisive, or procrastinate. It's best that someone else make really big decisions - she'd rather manage her whores and have fun.

* SELF CENTERED: Oppesine's world revolves around herself. Her time, her actions, and everything she does is to further her own schemes, ploys, and plots. She doesn't frequently go out of her way for others - not even her own children - and will only do so with prompting and prodding by her siblings.

The Magic Touch: As noted above, Oppesine is an alcoholic. This was easier to manage while they lived in Fort, a bit harder since moving to the weyr but like a true addict she's found ways to get it. Most likely from previous contacts in the brewer hall.

Tell us a story...

Meets Saleizo when he's 18 - 2570

* 2553, Born Born a squealing, bright eyed babe to excited parents. Though they already have one child, they're eager to welcome this new addition to the family. She's a needy, loud babe that demands a lot of attention - but she laughs as readily as she cries.

* 2555, 2 Oppesine isn't spoiled, but she's still a needy little girl. Clinging to her mother skirts, babbling away even if some of it is nonsense. When her mother becomes pregnant again, she's overly interested and invested in the comings and goings on involved. Up until the new babe [{Dolynsine}] is introduced to her. Oppesine never sees her siblings as a vie for attention, or someone she has to compete for but rather, someone she has to look out for and help take care of. Delighted at the addition to the family, she's as much underfoot as she is a help.

* 2560, 7 Oppesine sees herself as the unofficial 'mother' of her siblings, second only to [{Name}] ( played by Kyya ) often following their lead, tattling on [{Dolynsine}] if they get out of line and taking some pride in being the good girl. And if she makes a mistake, she's quick to blame it on anyone or anything else besides her - frequently failing to take responsibility. When her mother becomes pregnant again, she takes it upon herself to take care of her mother as she did before. This time with a bit more success than before. She welcomes Kindolin to the family gladly.

* 2563, 10 Oppesine struggles to deal with a headstrong Kindolin while still acting the motherly sort to [{Dolynsine}] and shadow to [{Name}] ( played by Kyya ). She's trying to find her own place in the family and has many different 'masks' or faces depending on who she interacts with. To their parents, she's turning into the ideal marriagable daughter. To her younger siblings, a bit of a disciplinarian and dramatic tattletale, and to [{name}] a trustworthy ear and dependable friend.

* 2566, 13 Her parents pass out some eggs to the children and Oppesine, being an older child, ends up with two. One is a Gold she names Proper and another is a sweet, tiny Green she immediately names Polite. It's to help her keep an eye on her younger siblings and meant as a pre-wedding gift. They want her to marry a friend of the family, but the plans sort of fall through as the Weyr falls on hard times from Thread and her intended is killed. Her mother becomes pregnant though, so Oppesine doesn't really mind all that much and she directs her parents attention to that. They can always talk about her getting married after the newest babe is born.

* 2567, 14 The youngest child and her sister, Ryneppa is born. It's a rough time for their mother until the babe is finally born, much to the delight of Oppesine. Another sibling is another sibling, after all. A new addition to the family. Losing her mother Odeline, however, is a blow that makes her lose a bit of pep in her step and it's hard for her to really bounce back quickly. She's a bit withdrawn and smiles are hard to come by for a time. She pulls away from Ryneppa when she's younger, not because she blames the little babe, but because she's painfully reminded of the loss of her mother.

* 2570, 17 It's been a rough transition for Oppesine. Losing her mother, losing the weyr, moving to Fort Hold... It's a mess. But after a turn or so of closing herself off, Oppesine starts to grow up. Not trying to fill in for her mother, but trying to provide a sense of stability and love that she feels is missing now that their mother is gone. Moving to Fort Hold is a shock to her system. It's a rough and tumble place of terrible people that she initially scorns. She wants nothing to do with but her family seems to sense opportunity. Wanting nothing to do with the rougher side of it all, Oppesine ends up befriending some ladies and forming what she likes to call a 'loose social circle'. Others would call them whores. She makes a sweet face at her family to ask for 'protection' for her 'friends' while they sell themselves for favors.  It's later in this turn that she meets Saleizo. He amuses her to no end when he prepositions her like she's one of her 'loose' friends. She later ends up sleeping with him. Much to the eventual disappointment and chagrin of her family.

* 2571, 18 Two of her 'friends' gift her two eggs as payment for the protection that Oppesine and her family afford them. They hatch into two sister Greens, completing her fair of flits : Pristine and Precise. She sticks with the P naming convention because it amuses her. She is quite delighted at the present though and readily accepts the darlings as payment.

* 2572, 19 Their father, in an attempt to insert some normalcy, tries to talk about marriage with both Kindolin and Oppesine. Sweet Kindolin deflects by saying she wants to go into a crafthall and Oppesine says she doesn't have time to be married while she's helping to look after Ryneppa. Sometime later, she finds herself, drunk, with Saleizo. They have a very public fight - and make up - about how stupid it would be if she got married and how he wouldn't be caught dead marrying anyone. Her father is quite upset when he hears about it and finds it difficult to pair her up with anyone after that. Much to Oppesine's pleasure.

* 2575, 21 Oppesine is really settling into her role as 'Actress', as some people are taking to call her around the place. She's not overly involved in the fighting side of things, but she has a handful of 'friends' that stick around her that she keeps safe. In exchange for favors, gifts, and the like. She lives rather well vicariously through these 'friends' and extends these same gifts and favors to her family, in turn they keep her whores safe.

2576, 22 Oppesine has her first child, Orreine. She finds out quickly that she both doesn't want to be a mother - babes are a lot of work that she doesn't want to be a part of - and that she can't really provide any manner of life for the little boy. She's not about to tell Saleizo that it's probably his, because he wouldn't likely care and they were having a fight round about when the babe was born. So it's something she's not likely to bring up, unless it's in another heated argument with him. She ended up giving the little boy to one of her 'friends' to look after.

2579, 25 Oppesine has her second child, a little girl by the name of Odriane. By now she's fully aware that she needs to give the little girl up and readily does so shortly after she's born. It's far easier this second time than the first since she's utterly convinced this is not only the best for the babe, but the best for her too. She gives the girl to one of the whores who just had a babe too and they're raised as siblings.

* 2580, 26 At some point in her life, Oppesine realized she was a whoremaster. How it really happened, she's still not sure. But between cultivating 'friends' she used for favors in exchange for protection and setting up a brothel in the tunnels of Fort, it just sort of ended up being a thing she had. While certainly not the largest, it's still a clean, wellkept place that she's quite proud of. Certainly a side business in amongst everything that her family does and it's something that is hers.

2583, 29 She's actually drawn to the fact that Ryneppa has been getting into some wher fights. She finds out since Ryn looses her Green wher. It upsets her somewhat that her youngest sister is getting involved in such things and she gets quite drunk finding out - gets in a stupid, public fight with Saleizo - but she doesn't really have much to say TO Ryn about it all. What are the real alternatives in a place like Fort Hold?

2587, 33 Thread stops falling and she things that everything will be grand. Right up until the call to uproot and move to the weyr is made. She's pretty much drunk for most of the move and doesn't sober up until they've already well and truly moved. It feels like a bad dream. Everything they've known and worked for just... Up and gone. Her 'friends' scatter to the winds, seeking new opportunities at the weyr. That and she sorta lost touch when she was black out drunk.

2590, 36 Moving to the Mine Hall is the happiest she's been in awhile. The weyr has always felt too stuffy. Even if there are giant monsters out in the jungle. She'd rather deal with them than the weyr's rules any day.

Since arriving at Fort Hold, the place just seemed full. Too many people in such a small space – even if that space was a Hold. She missed High Reaches, she missed home. But this would have to do. It’d been some turns since her mother had died and, after a turn of her passing, Oppesine had sworn that she would do her best to smile.

To not be the storm cloud in the room.

If anything, she was quite the opposite. Smiling in a dyed red dress of a semi-modest cut, she couldn’t imagine a party like this back at the weyr. Alcohol passed between people and so many had already offered to buy her drinks. She wasn’t an idiot. She understood the subtle request for more attention, more from her, but she took the drink and didn’t offer any more of herself.

Yet they kept passing their earnings her way. If she didn’t actually have to work for it, all the better.

Some enterprising harper, or at least someone with some skill in music, plucked a bouncy tune that she idly swayed to while someone chatted her up. He was saying something about a dice game that involved people taking their clothes off every round if they lost. Oppesine suspected it was weighed heavily in the man’s favor.

Then, quite suddenly to her, there was someone new at her side. Not clearing their throat or trying to slyly get her attention. He was an imposing, commanding figure that, once he caught her attention, he damn well had it. “You there. You interested in some work?”

The question was so outrageously bizarre that she smiled a moment before laughing. Oppesine? Work? Hardly. She lifted the fourth free drink she’d received that mark alone and winked at him. “Dearheart, do I look like someone that works for a living?”

Name:
Proper
Pronounced:
Just how it sounds. 8D
Color:
Gold
Date of Birth:
2566 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
High Reaches Weyr

General Appearance...

She's a lithe and pretty gold. With bright highlights and a brilliant metallic hue, Proper is well named for her 'proper' namesake. She is a Gold through and through. Big, but not bulky, and vibrantly gold.
( I'm using this place holder color palette until we get the flit template for me to color )

Personality...

Mind Voice: Proper doesn't share much - food, space, or mental pictures or emotions. She keeps a lot to herself unless she's well and truly distressed. Then she bites.

Likes:
Her own personal space : She's not a friendly flit, but she's not overly mean either. Just don't pet her, don't mess with her, and all is well. She's Lord over her domain and no one touches her unless she wants them to. And she never wants them to.

Watching : Proper has an eerie way of watching people. Unwavering, unblinking. Almost like she's staring you down. She just really like watching people. They fascinate her.

Family: She can be a bit more accommodating to Oppesine's family. They can get away with being a bit close, maybe a pat on the head, a scratch over her eye ridge. Maybe.  She likes them enough to occasionally tolerate the invasion of personal space. Or at least warn them before she bites them.

Dislikes:
Whers : Some have tried to eat her before, so she doesn't have much patience for any of them now and won't linger in their company unless Oppesine is there. And even then, only if she feels like her bonded might be in some trouble.

Children : They're noisy, touchy, and don't understand rules. Generally. So she's quick to bite and set them straight.

Name:
Polite
Pronounced:
Poe-light
Color:
Green
Date of Birth:
2566 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
High Reaches Weyr

General Appearance...

Polite is a small Green of pale hues and darker markings. She's quiet and reserved, preferring to spend most of her time curled up on someone than flapping about. Since she's small, she's easily out of the way and frequently forgotten. ( Using a color swab until we get new template for me to use. 8D )

Personality...

Mind Voice: Polite is an 'out of the way' flit. She likes being near people, but she's so quiet and unobtrusive people often forget she's around. She's not demanding, enjoys attention but doesn't seek it, and doesn't make a fuss - either mentally or vocally.

Likes:
Warmth : She's a tiny thing and she likes curling up against people, dragons, or whers - if they're friendly - and relaxing.

Oiling : it's akin to a flit massage. It's her most favorite thing in the world and she's easily bribed into doing things she might not otherwise - like running errands - if it means a nice oiling after.

Dislikes:
Loud voices : They make her uneasy and she'd much rather be elsewhere. Shouting especially sets her off and she'll be quick to pop between and retreat to Oppesine's bedfurs.

Golds / aggressive flits : Polite is a tiny flit and she isn't aggressive by any means. She's very easy to chase off and dislikes it when it happens, chirping protests all along the way. But she won't fight.

Name:
Precise
Pronounced:

Color:
Green
Date of Birth:
2571 9th Interval
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold

General Appearance...

Precise is a bright forest green with speckling of a paler green along her body and darker green shadows. She would blend in really well in the jungle, were she so inclined - but she's not. ( Color palette is a place holder until we get new template )

Personality...

Mind Voice: Precise likes to share images she thinks are important, impressing them upon Oppesine regardless whether they've been requested.

Likes:
Digging : In the dirt. Like she's some sort of wherry searching for truffles or worms. Precise take great delight in finding creatures in the dirt, or prizes. It's a game to her - and one Oppesine plays with her. Best she stays away from farm land.

Rain : She wants to attack all the rain drops, like they're buzzing insects trying to get away from her. They most certainly cannot!

People that Oppesine likes : She's utterly incorrigible and nosy. She wants to know what they're doing so she can show Oppesine.

Dislikes:
The Dark : Her hearing isn't the best so she doesn't like being left alone when she can't see things right.

Boys : They're usually a bit rough around the edges ( given Oppesine's general company ) so they're her least favorite of people and take the most to win her over.

Name:
Pristine
Pronounced:
Priss-teen
Color:
Green
Date of Birth:
2571 9th Interval
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold

General Appearance...

Pristine is a dark green flit of an average size. She, like her sister green Precise, would do well in the jungle if she wanted to live amongst the leafed canopy. She doesn't have any special markings but she does have an over all darker coloration than her sister Pristine.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Pristine is the most vocal of Oppesine's flits, purring and trilling in turn depending on her mood. She can be excitable, which will reflect in her chirps and trills, or she expresses her pleasure with someone with purrs. She relies on Precise to show images, but she will if it's expected of her.

Likes:
Exploring : Pristine is a relatively independent flit. She might be bonded to Oppesine, and sleep in her bedfurs, but she's out and about as often as she's not. Whether it's flying around the island, fishing on her own, or sneaking about the tunnels - she likes being out and about.

Presents : In that she likes bringing back things to Oppesine. Fish bones, spinners, shiny rocks... Whatever she's found that she thinks is neat, she'll bring back.

Grooming : much like a wild flit, Pristine likes to be groomed and to groom other flits. Proper, Precise, and Polite are her favored flits to groom, but she'll do it to anyone that she'd made 'nice' with.

Dislikes:
Orders / Authority : While she can be quite the nice behaved flit, Prestine doesn't like being ordered around. She's a 'free spirit' and wants to just do what she wants to do. If she doesn't agree with what she's been told, she'll go between. Good luck finding her until she wants to be found.

Clutches : She's a tiny terror, not only to her own, but to others she might find. Raiding them to eat and destroy.

"We’ve been together since the beginning, and we’ve come so far."

N'dar // Jungle Wing // 26

About the Character:
N'dar and Ivonai have been running together for as long as either of them can remember. From orphaned thieves in Fort, to dabbling in wher fighting right up until N'dar is taken away to the weyr to Impress, these two have struggled through life to get where they’re at. Their brief time apart while N'dar is away, impressing dragons and growing up, is rough but he returns for her. As promised.

Their history is full of rough and tumble stories, but with a bit of a happy ending now that everyone is at the weyr.

Wanted ICly:
Someone to pick up N'dar. There’s a lot in their history that would be fun to play out, and current events and dramas to play through. :3

Wanted OOCly:
Pretty much the same ICly. Exploring their story, playing out things. Someone who wants to invest in them as much as I am. :3

OOC Hang Out / OOC How important is art?
« on: February 10, 2018, 02:56:49 PM »
There was a question posed over on Pernese Online, and I thought it was a neat one to discuss with all of you too. The initial question was, simplified, how important is it that you receive hatchling art when your character impresses? Would it deter you from joining a site if your character didn't receive their own customized dragon art?

But I also wanted to extrapolate, and expand, on that a little. Would you turn away from a site if they didn't have any art at all?

In other words, how important is it, to you, that an rp site has arts?

Biography

Name:

Fynniran

Pronounced:
Fin – ear - ann
Honorific:
F’yn
Pronounced:
FIN
Nicknames:

Fynn, Fynny
Date of Birth:

01.01.2565 9th pass
Place of Birth:
Southern Hold

Dragon Color:

Blue
Impression Age:
2577/12
Wing Rank:

Wing Rider/Search Rider - Beach
Weyrmate:
F’yn wouldn’t necessarily mind settling but to the day hasn’t sound the right person to settle.

Your Reflection...

Appearance:

F’yns red hair is almost as vibrant as his spirit and his green eyes are as lively as he is. Though his natural color is pale and remains so despite sun exposure, his skin has garnered that thick almost leather quality that a constant deep tan manages to earn. Somehow the flesh remains wrinkle and sun spot free. Typical of a dragon rider, F’yn wears his hair in a short fashion that stays perpetually messy from his riding gear and an insatiable habit of ruffling his fingers through it and tugging the short strands when deep in thought. His face is kept clean shaven...mostly. It is not unlike him to forget to shave or altogether forgo the habit for days at a time. When unshaven, his facial hair barely grows beyond a shadow of red hue splashed across his chin and cheeks. His sideburns are unfashionably long but suit his long, lean face and narrow nose. F’yn tends to wear his emotions on his eyebrows, though his lips are also easy with expressions. Red eyebrows arc neatly, too neatly not to have been obviously groomed, over bright eyes that crinkle with lines when he smiles. Those well pressed lines serve as a good indicator of how often a smile creases his face.

Although F’yn is not very tall, his lean-toned musculature and long limbs help him appear taller than his below average stature. F’yn leans towards the current fashion: wherhide riding pants tucked into tall riding boots, the foot and soles usually heavy and thick, the leg secured by various straps and buckles, a loose fitting shirt tucked with a wide open neckline, and wherhide wrist bands adorned with beads and stones. Beyond the wrist bands and boots, he isn’t particularly a fan of fussy extras.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: F’yn is mildly devastated by the fall Fort Weyr. F’yn was born a mere two years before Southern Hold was abandoned and he took the trip from Southern Hold to Tillek Hold bundled in his mother’s arms, sleeping soundly and unaffected by the change. The fall of Tillek and High Reaches Weyr was more startling to the lad, having impressed and began his turn in the battle against Thread there. The fall shook him to his core, like losing a war. When Southern Winds Weyr was founded F’yn viewed it as a breath of relief. Fear and adrenaline had ruled him for so long that finding the tiny safe haven seemed like a small victory. Resilient, F’yn left the traumatic feelings at Fort Weyr and gladly moved on to embrace their new home.

Response to dragon color mutations: Resilient and easy going, F’yn lacked opinion on the new dragon’s color mutation. Their world was changing and evolving, their home had changed, why not the dragons themselves? F’yn accepted the dragon’s color and when the Black Neisoth rose to fly Kalestath F’yn was not particularly surprised. Whenever asked, he passionately admitted that he was sure the eggs lying on the hatching grounds would yield not only more black dragons but possibly new variations as well. It’s what the world does – adapt and change.

Who are you...

Likes:

* Children : If F’yn hadn’t impressed he would have liked to have worked with the Fisher Crafthall and with children. F’yn, seeming quite uncomplicated and youthful himself, loved the pure innocence in children. He loved seeing the light brighten in their eyes as they comprehended new things. Oldest brother of four siblings and an uncle several, handling youth was second nature to F’yn, though he has no real intention of having children of his own despite the possibility that there may be one or two in the Crache unbeknownst to him.

* Attention : Though F’yn adores being looked at, touched, and otherwise showered in attention and affection he rarely seeks it. However, when it’s directed at him, he practically preens. F’yn would do almost anything for, or with, someone who gives him anything a little extra.

* Dominance : F’yn isn’t bias. If a woman showered him with attention he would do anything for and with her but his clear preference is for men. Regardless of gender, F’yn has a pliable personality flooded by submissive qualities and he enjoys being told what to do and how to do it, whether by words or actions.

* Sand : Strange but true, F’yn finds comfort in the warmth of the tiny grains between his toes. He could lie on the beach or even the hatching ground and be perfectly content.

Dislikes:

* Sleeping Alone : F’yn enjoys a good romp but it isn’t necessary. What is necessary is a sleeping partner. He wouldn’t mind if he fooled around with someone and they sent him away as long as he had someone else to go to for cuddles. He rarely sleeps in his own bed and if he is in his bed, someone else is as well, preferably three or four someones.

* Being talked down to : The young man isn’t aggressive by nature and he’s very easy to get along with. What can bring his temper to a boil, though he rarely wields it, is being talked down to, reprimanded, or corrected. Being criticized raises his hackles and makes him feel defensive.

* Busy Work : F’yn is a man of idle hands. If he has a moment outside of his duties he will spend it in the arms of another, in the heat of the moment, or lounging where he shouldn’t. F’yn does not like being kept busy beyond his honor bound duties.

Strengths:

* Intelligent : F’yn has a quiet intelligence about him. He’s smart, witty, and had forethought but he’s wise enough, also, to keep his mouth shut and follow orders. He doesn’t aspire to climb ladders and tends to make suggestions in a roundabout way that lends the suggestion as someone else’s clever idea.

* Loyal : Above all else, F’yn is loyal all the way through. His loyalty lies with those closest to him. The weyr holds his loyalty but it’s bigger than he is in this immense, multi functioning way that if off putting. Instead, F’yn lives in his circle of friends and family and there is where his loyalty holds most true.

* Valiant : F’yn isn’t cut out of hero mold but he it wouldn’t occur to him not to step in front of a blade meant for another or to risk danger to help another.

* Dedicated : Once he’s begun something, F’yn sees it through to the end. He’s especially fickle about keeping promises, which he hands out with too much ease.

* Even tempered : Slow to anger, F’yn doesn’t take life and people too seriously in general. It’s tough to get under his skin and once there he’s a slow burn type.

Weaknesses:

* Emotional : While F’yn tries not to be too emotionally involved anymore it isn’t something that can be helped. He has a tendency to get emotionally attached to people but has a lasting fear of being disappointed and hurt and so spends an immeasurable amount of effort trying to stamp down emotional reactions.

* Reckless : F’yn is adventurous and thrill seeking, combine that with fairly youthful and it’s a combination for disaster. Often he finds himself in more trouble solving a problem then the initial problem itself by running off head strong and half-cocked.

* Straight forward : F’yn has a penchant for honesty that comes from a need to be good and true. This flair for honesty coupled with a quick tongue usually puts him in a bind, especially with a wind leader or a woman.

* Loose lipped : F’yn isn’t a secret keeper. He doesn’t go out of his way to let a secret slip but he often speaks at the thoughts occur to him and rarely thinks before the words come out. It’s a harmless quality that can become damaging quickly.

* Easily influenced : Bending to peer pressure isn’t something the free spirited, adventurous young man is proud of. He’s impressionable and while not necessarily bendable to social pressure, his nearest and dearest would not have to try very hard to sway him in a direction in which his heart was saying not to go. His passivity gets the better of him and he’s a natural born follower despite his wild streak.

Describe Yourself:

* Impulsive: ----- Living and breathing in the moment, F’yn makes decisions instantly and doesn’t pause to reconsider them. This also applies to his mouth. F’yn has an innocent but nasty habit of speaking without thinking his words and their possible impact through beforehand.

* Adventurous: ----- Falling hand in hand with being impulsive, F’yn is a thrill seeking, adrenaline junky. He likes to feel his heart racing and his palms sweating.

* Flirtatious and playful : ----- While F’yn won’t actively seek out attention, the moment attention is directed towards him he comes alive. He’s friendly and chatty and centers himself by touching. He flirts shamelessly and intensely.

* Compassionate: ----- If anyone were going to sit down beside a friend and let them have a good cry on their shoulder it would be F’yn. He has a softness about him that makes him a little emotional. He is happy to share ones emotional burden so they don’t have to carry the load alone. It’s not unlike him to bite off more than he can manage and get overwhelmed by someone else’s problems.

* Content: ----- F’yn is content to be exactly who he is, completely at peace with himself. He is unconcerned by changing who he is to accommodate someone else, much to his father’s ire. The world is what it is and you can’t change that and as much applies to himself. As a result there is a loose ease that surrounds him.

The Magic Touch:

Family...

Mother: Milliann, Kitchen worker, 02.02.2552.
Father: Fisher, Farren, 10.08.2550, 05.07.2570.

Siblings:

Renann, Crache worker, 02.31.2568.

Mianna, n/a, 05.33.2569, 03.06.2570

Farmil/F’mil, rider of green Avaseth, born 03.21.2571, impressed 2584.

Children:

At twenty-six years old and having spent nights with a handful of women early on when Hold life still ruled his conscience it is likely that F’yn has at least one or two children of his own but despite loving children he has no desire to sire his own. If there are children carrying his DNA he doesn’t know about them and probably won’t be seeking them out, as can be the way in Weyr life. As it is, in the past few years F’yn’s preference have gone the masculine route so if there are young F’yn running around none of them would be younger than nine turns.

Tell us a story...

* 2565, 0 Fynniran, Milliann and Farren’s first child, was born.

* 2, 2567 Southern Hold fell to the threat of Thread and the small family was relocated to Tillek Hold since his father was a Fisher. This move kept his father in the profession he was accustomed. Fynniran barely recalls his first dragon ride and rode out the event bundled safely into a sack on his mother’s back.

* 2568, 3 Settled in Tillek Hold as if they had never known another home, Fynniran’s sister, Renann, was born. Like Fynniran, Renann was a healthy, happy, easy baby.

* 2569, 4 By four turns along, Fynny was proving to be a good spirited, light hearted lad but had a penchant for trouble. He often wondered away from the family and found himself lost in the tunnels or sneaking snacks in the kitchens, doted on by some of the mothers there. In the winter, Mianna, Fynn’s second sister and the family’s third child was born. Unlike Fynny and Ren, Mia was a sickly baby, fussy and frail. Fynn’s father began allowing the lad to accompany him to the Crafthold and on the boats, removing him from the daily life at home in order to ease his wife’s day caring for a young child and a sick baby. He became a proficient swimmer within months and had a secret talent for weaving nets.

* 2570, 5 In the turn 2570, tragedy ran its course through their family. Everyone was surprised that little Mia made it through the winter and hopes strengthened for her survival only to be dashed in the early spring when she simply didn’t wake up in her cradle. Weeks later their father fell to thread while working ground crew. The man, distracted by grief, stepped into a Thread nest and was devoured quickly. Their mother found out only weeks later that she was with child. Instead of lifting her spirit, this seemed to compound her grief.

* 2571, 6 Farmil was born, another strong and healthy baby. Milliann began to work in the kitchen, leaving the two small children with other Holders and to their lessons on their own, taking only the baby because he still nursed. Ren was too young to be hurt by this but Fynniran was just old enough to feel abandoned. Thatate year, Tillek Hold, the Fisher Crafthall, and High Reaches Weyr evacuated to Fort. Without the ocean near and the vast lifestyle changes going from Hold to Weyr life, coupled with his mother dumping them into the Crache, this move impacted Fynniran to the core, leaving him shell shocked.

* 2572, 7 The lifestyle changes proved too much for the child and Fynniran earned the label of trouble maker. He wasn’t really trying to make trouble, he simply couldn’t cope with the changes the past year had gifted. He began getting in trouble for climbing the bowl walls, exploring off limit tunnels, and once even sneaking out of the weyr. He was put to work in the kitchens to restrain his idle time.

* 2576, 11 When a clutch was lay on the sands it was always cause for excitement but Fynniran only viewed it as that, exciting gossip. When he was searched at eleven turns, it came as a surprise. The boy couldn’t get his head around the event. When the eggs hardened and hatched, however, Fynniran was left standing on the sands with several other boys and a girl, dragonless and flushed with annoyance and shame. Determined to shrug off the event, the boy began to rebel again, stealing drinks, hiding in tunnels with friends, climbing the walls.

* 2577, 12 Having earned a reputation for being fearless and wild, a few people groaned when a blue crawled from the egg and sought out Fynniran with a single minded purpose. His name was Avaseth and he dubbed Fynniran ‘F’yn’. Like all other things in life, F’yn threw himself into his newfound weyrling training and doted on his dragon to the point of spoiling Avaseth. F’yn took to Dragon riding like he took to water. What the lad did not take so easily to were the weyrmates. He had spent several years in the Crache, surrounded by other children, but being put into a room full of other young boys rose feelings that F’yn felt were wrong, unpleasant and unwelcome. He struggled in the evenings when the boys spent their free time roughing, showering, and dressing for bed. What made this all worse was the knowing eyes of his dragonet. Though Avaseth reassured him, F’yn couldn’t shake the feeling of being judged.

* 2578, 13 Suppressing his feelings became more difficult when F’yn found himself drawn to another boy, Ipnorad, and he began to get in trouble for his penchant, which Avaseth didn’t disagree with, for flying wild. Several times in the course of a Turn, the pair found themselves grounded for days at a time for stunts. On the ground, F’yn avoided many of the boys and began to pour his attention and charm into the girls.

* 2580, 15 If F’yn fathered a child at all, this was the turn. F’yn and another weyrling, Melisaun, snuck away from a feast together. Only two short months later she lost a baby they didn’t really know she’d been carrying. The young man didn’t particularly want to be a father and he certainly didn’t want kids before being attached to a wing but the events left him with a sense of deep sadness that Avaseth responded to with an overflow of love and reassurances. Somehow, the events calmed F’yn. He still took impulsive risks but he became more withdrawn and quiet, less attention seeking and trouble making. Though he and Melisaun remained friends, they never slept together again. Later that year they would fight when she confessed to him, and then during their resulting fight accused him, of being a lover of boys. They eventually made up but their friendship remained strained. Grudgingly, he admitted his unwelcome feelings but Mel was as encouraging as Avaseth. She reminded him that the Weyr and the way of life was not the same and did not hold the same expectations that the Hold life had. Besides, she has reasoned, there weren’t any more Holds left to feel Hold Bound too and he was a Dragon rider now. Between her reasoning and Avaseth’s adoration and calm acceptance, F’yn finally found a slow, quiet peace within himself, if not actual acceptance.

* 2582, 17 Ren, who F’yn barely ever saw anymore between her new duties in the wash room and his own training, announced to him that she was marrying. This simultaneously shocked and pleased F’yn because he hadn’t wanted a life along or an arranged marriage for his sister. However, only a few short months after marriage she lost her first baby. Saddened for her and by the events, F’yn turned to his friends Melisaun and I’rad (now a Brown rider). Sorrow turned to drinking, drinking turned to giddiness, and blissful unawareness turned into a sloppy night with his best friends. There was regret on his part, and then anger, and then I’rad became angry with him because of his regret, and then finally there was calm. Melisaun made it clear that this would be a one-time event for her but I’rad began to peruse F’yn with gusto until, with Avaseth’s encouragement, he gave in to his own longing.

* 2583, 18 Finally! Finally F’yn (and I’rad) were assigned to Wings and allowed to join the battle against their airborne enemy. F’yn and Avaseth had never felt so in tune with each other and never quite so free. Unfortunately tragedy struck again in his life. Returning from a flight feeling powerful and puffed, the blue rider was brought to his knees in shock to find that I’rad and his Brown had been badly thread scored. With I’rad lying in bed in pain, his Brown went between and did not return. I’rad became a husk, lost in his sorrow. F’yn tried to support him and be tender to him but I’rad was bitter and lost. He pulled away from F’yn who, in turn, became quietly frustrated. Then, on an evening after a flight, F’yn returned to I’rad’s quarters to find the man hanging. Grief and a sense of betrayal sent F’yn into a spiral that only Avaseth could seem to bring him back from. F’yn couldn’t sleep alone without being plagued by nightmares and he began to throw himself into others beds to sleep. Sleeping turned into other things with many men over time and sex turned became reckless abandoned. F’yn was changed. He was no longer timid with men but also no longer boisterous and attention seeking. He’d become a subtler man who let attention come to him as it would. While subtler in friendships and relationships, he was still the wild, impulsive, adventurous Rider and Avaseth was pleased to have his rider revived. This new acceptance of himself and his preference came at a good time because, though Avaseth had risen before, he had never flown another to that point. Avaseth flew a green with a male rider and, though the flight lust was subtle it was there. F’yn was happy to turn himself over to the lust. Late in the Turn something good finally came and his sister carried a baby to term. This baby was healthy and strong.

* 2584, 19 Farmil, F’yns brother, was searched. Farmil impressed on his first stand on the hatching ground, a sweet tempered Green called Arineth and became F’mil. F’yn was ecstatic but his mother was not. She didn’t want her tame, quiet son to become like her older, wilder son. F’yn, who by this point had had enough of his mother’s temperament, severed his ties to her, much to peaceful Ren’s and easy going F’mils dismay.

* 2587, 22 The 9th pass finally ended. The dragon rider was seasoned and exhausted, worn to the core by the way the world had become, stunned by the losses of both lives and land. They hadn’t won, the Thread had stopped. F’yn and anyone with sense knew it would come again one day and there was almost nothing left to defend. When the Southern Islands were found and Fort Island is founded his spirits were lifted. Given a choice, F’yn chose to join the Beach Wing, no questions asked since the opportunity would bring him back to the ocean he so loved.

When Neisoth is hatched F’yn feels so removed from the whole thing that it barely registers. His opinion is practical: the world changes and the creatures and plants on it adapt. That’s what this new chapter in their lives was all about, right? Adapting and overcoming.

* 2589, 24 When Beach is assigned to protection details at the new Hold site F’yn is passively pleased because, though thread doesn’t fall the Beach Snakes and Hunters present some much needed actions. When construction detail comes, his dismayed but as usual compliant.

As the Fisher Crafthall begins to rally for a space of their own, F’yn finds himself lending voice, even though the last thing he would like to do is more construction detail. His heart is with his Dragon but his roots are with the Craft. When the trip to the Crathall near Tillek results in Hunter and Beach Snake attacks, both F’yn and Avaseth come away with shallow wounds that would leave scars on their bodies but bolster their spirits need for excitement. Later in the year F’yn begins to lend his down time to the Fish Craft hall in the construction of the dock while Avaseth lounges lazily in the hot sand. He works alongside his tiny nephew, who will likely apprentice in Fisher Craft. F’yn continues to seek comfort in the beds of others though hasn’t settled into any single relationship since he lost I’rad.

----

The thread was falling erratically, swirled out of its predictable pattern by unexpected and irregular gusts of wind. The Dragon Riders were blinking in and out of the Weyrbowl like lightening, collecting firestone and leaving far too many injured behind. The thread scores caused F’yn’s stomach turn and made him more glad then he should be that he was on firestone duty and would never have to treat or wrap those wounds. The burned wings and scored haunches made his heart ache and he instinctively reached out to Avaseth.

I am here, the soothing voice responded. Right where I should be, whole and healthy. His dragon’s voice was weighted with sadness for his fellow dragons though. F’yn promised himself to give Avaseth an extra-long oiling the very next chance he got. Avaseth purred in response.

F’yn began to pack yet another sack of firestone, preparing to hand it off to another Rider. One day it would be he and Avaseth fighting this seemingly losing battle against their long-time foe. He found himself anticipatory and simultaneously terrified right down to his bones. For now he did his Weyrling duty. Glancing around he noted his fellow weyrlings equally struggling to keep up with their assigned duty. This fall had to end soon, everyone was showing signs of fatigue from their tasks. How would they ever keep this up?

Blue

2577
Place of Birth:
Fort Weyr
Clutch Mother:

Kiberith
Clutch Father:
Dekkath
Measurements: Listed in the dragon information.
Mature Length: 29 Meters
Mature Height: 5.5 Meters
Mature Wingspan: 48.72 Meters

General Appearance...

As a dragonet Avaseth was long and gangly and perhaps a touch too lean with awkward wings and a tail that swished and whipped entirely too much. His coloring was nearly silver, the blue was so pale. As he grew, Avaseth’s coloring settled into a muted blue-gray color like very blue steel. His wing span and his length stretched awkwardly long still and he remained lean and thin, making his an incredibly agile flyer, able to fold his wings against his body and swooping through narrow spaces or maneuvering tight turns mid-flight. Though he is a magnificent flier his takeoff and landing are inelegant and sloppy, most likely due to the length of his wings and body verses his height. His eyes sit deep beneath his eyes ridges which gives him a perpetually surprised expression. Avaseth’s forked tale has a deep cut fork which can be a pain as he swishes his tail often and wildly, much like he had as a dragonet.

Personality...

Avaseth is a calm dragon, laid back and easy. Though not particuarily adventurous himself, his riders penchant for excitement and thrill can rub off on Avaseth with little difficulty or resistance. Avaseth could easily be a voice of calm reason except his rider is already an easy going man. As a pair they may as well be permanent beach bums. The only thing that would please Avaseth more than lazing around in hot sand all day would be a good scrubbing and oiling.

Mind Voice: Chirpy. Speaking in a high alto, his voice is light and airy and his laugh is twittering. It’s a pleasant, if unusual, sound. When fearful or angry his voice rises to a low soprano becoming shrill.

Likes:

* Hot sand : Avaseth is a very loungey dragon, given over easily and quickly to a lay in the sun heated sand.

* Greens : Avaseth is a blue, what else could you expect from a blue. He likes a good chase but he also enjoys their company because of their unpredictable nature, so different from himself. As of yet he’s undecided on what he thinks of reds.

* Beach duty : Along with loving the sand, Avaseth enjoys beach duty because he loves the salty taste in the air and the itchy feel of salt water drying on his scales. It helps that he loves the bath and oil afterwards as well.

Dislikes:

* Bronzes : Ok, he doesn’t really dislike the bronze dragons but he does feel intimidated by them. They’re much larger and more powerful then himself and he doesn’t like the way he feels small and fragile next to them.

* Firestone : The effects of the firestone are necessary but he dislikes the way it makes his stomach feel rumbly, his nose feels hot, and, of course, vomiting it back out after a flight when he’s already worn weary.

* Confrontation : Avaseth is an easy going creature and dislikes anything that disrupts his peaceful nature, including arguing going on around him, even if he isn’t personally involved.

Strengths: 2+ (list form and please give at least a bit of explanation to each)

* Calm : Avaseth is unflappable. He doesn’t stir into angry and annoyance easily and his calm transfers to his rider. He’s a soothing presence for other dragons and riders as well. It makes him a natural born peace keeper.

* Searching : Avaseth is a very good searcher. He enjoys the task and rarely searches someone who does not impress.

Weaknesses: 2+ (list form and please give at least a bit of explanation to each)

* Lazy : Avaseth would rather lay in the sand and sleep with his side pressed against another then get up and go. It takes him a long time and a lot of nagging to wake up. Once he’s up he is ready to go but he’d almost always rather be sleeping.

* Landing and takeoff : Because of his length and narrow whip-like body, Avaseth is a superb flier but a very shaky lander and has ungraceful lift off.

Holders / Approved Meyelthra [ 19.06.2567 9th Pass / Former Wher Fighter ]
« on: September 15, 2017, 08:05:52 PM »

Play By:
Taylor Momsen
Biography

Name:
Meyelthra
Pronounced:
May-elle-thrah
Nicknames:
Meyel, but only to Sken/X'hos, and only when they're alone.
Date of Birth:
19.06.2567 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold
Weyrmate or Spouse:
X'hos

Your Reflection...

Appearance: She stands at a wiry 5'6" with naturally platinum blonde hair she leaves long and partially wild. It reaches just past her shoulders.

Meyelthra prefers practical clothes. Comfortable boots she's had for turns now, pants, and a nice shirt. Nice as in comfortable - it's not nice by any 'proper' holder's standard. She'll wear wher-leather, cloth - whatever she can get her hands on, and she's not above pilfering clothes when the situation calls for it. Now that she's at the weyr, she frequently wanders around in a simple cloth shirt and wher hide pants.

Now that she's chummed up to a Rider, she lounges in X'hos's clothes when she's not prowling about getting into trouble.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Meyelthra saw the dark side of Fort as a personal challenge and quiet thrill. There was nothing like a rough night at the wher pits, where marks changed hands more frequently than hookers changed bed partners. To her, wher fighting was more a craft than anything her family did and took more skill and dedication than anything else. Fuck her uppity siblings and who cares about thread? If it's gonna kill them all, then let it come quick and fast. Until then, she was in the thick of it all, thriving as much as one might in the underbelly of Fort.

Response to dragon color mutations: Is she a dragon rider? Because last she checked, she wasn't and she doesn't really give a damn about the color of a dragon. To her, they're all big fire breathing blow hards that had it pretty good during all the mess that was the catastrophe - that was their fault anyways. One of the reasons she shacked up with one when Fort Hold was 'shut down' was because they had it so good. If there is some political trouble about all the mess, she thinks it's all in the Rider's heads.

Who are you...

Likes:
Control : Meyelthra considers herself the 'queen of her domain' and likes it that way. Her domain being her room, her wher, her flit, and her immediate space. Don't get too close - she bites. And she encourages her wher and flit to do so too.

Fresh fruit : It's not exactly easy to come by BUT she has sorta claimed a Jungle Rider as her live in buddy - he says they're weyrmates. Whatever. If she can worm some fresh fruit out of him now and then, all the better.

The Little Details : She quite enjoys oiling her wher, her flit, and even X'hos's dragon. Small chores that keep both her and her bonded in shape sooth her mind. If she's in a shitty mood, you can bet she's breaking out some oil and someone is getting worked on.

Dislikes:
Early Mornings and Late nights : Meyelthra has problems sleeping, mostly because one didn't sleep well back in the shitty tunnels of Fort. It's not insomnia, per say, but closer to bad dreams or simple restlessness. Not that she'd admit to it. She actually sleeps really well next to X'hos and is comforted by the fact that there's a giant dragon near by, along with her wher and flit. If he's not around, she gets irritable.

Riders : Funnily enough, for someone presently sleeping with one and has been for some time. But most riders get right up under her skin with their snobby attitude and 'better than thou' walk. It's quite a shame fighting has been banned because she'd be tearing a path through as many as she could. Flights are obnoxious too. Why do they happen so often? subtle glare at all the Greens in the weyr

Crafters : Any Crafter that seems to think they're better than she is - which is by extension some of her family. Meyelthra has an odd chip on her shoulder about not being a crafter, an in turn, thinking all crafters are snooty unless they act otherwise. Her family is the exception. All crafters in her family are waste of space know-it-alls. She believes they wasted their time learning dying crafts and wouldn't have lasted a day in the 'real' Fort Hold.

Strengths:

* FIERCE : From the time she was a little girl, Meyelthra has always felt that she had to fight the world and she's met this challenge head on - head up and ready to go. That's pretty much how she lives her life. Any challenge, any moment, is met head on.

* SELF RELIANT: You won't see her asking for handouts, favors, or relying on anyone for anything. She'd hunt her own food if the damn weyr would let her. She hates that she has to rely on others for even that - so out of a pure sense of wanting to be able to do for herself - she does help till the fields and clean fish with the other weyr folk.

* STABBY : Meyelthra is handy with a blade - definitely out of necessity. Any gang member that thought she'd be an easy target back in Fort quickly found out that she is not, at all. What she lacks in strength, she makes up in speed and willingness to down someone. Meyelthra doesn't play for fun, she plays to kill.

* STAMINA : With enough sleep and food in her, Meyelthra can go and go and go. Weyr life, for all her grumbles about the Riders, has been good for her and she's a font of energy.

* Tenacious : When she wants something, she wants it, and she'll do whatever she has to to get it done. From applying herself to working with the weyrfolk to feel more self-sufficient, to training herself with a blade, to training a wher and flit on her own. Meyelthra believes she should be able to do it on her own and would much rather bash her face against a wall over and over to learn something.

Weaknesses:

* NEAR SIGHTED : She doesn't understand 'big picture' plans because she's very much an 'instant gratification' kinda girl. What's the point in living for tomorrow if today sucks?

* SELFISH : She's spent so much of her life looking out for herself that, well, she's really only got herself. Having pushed away both family and any manner of friends, she really only has X'hos.

* VIOLENT : Meyelthra's go to response to something, or someone, when a situation becomes too much is violence. Blades solve problems faster than words. This has cooled down a bit since she's been in the weyr but, if moved to it, she can be prompted to such actions again. Easily.

* EXPLOSIVE : She's got a temper to boot. Irrational, angry, and willing to use her wher as a blunt instrument to get things done.

* UNFRIENDLY : Meyelthra doesn't believe anyone is out for anything but themselves - and in that vein, she doesn't want anyone close to her. Fuck the world be her motto, unless someone can do something for her. Otherwise, what's the point?

Describe Yourself:

* LEECH: Meyelthra is a user. She likes taking from people. It makes her feel powerful, like she's somehow 'one upped' life. In that, she's loath to let go of things or a position of 'power' or comfort. That's one of the reasons she's been with X'hos for so long. He's been able to provide her with a lot of creature comforts. In that vein, she'll be quite protective of this comfy situation she's found herself in.

* COMMANDING: Meyelthra trained her flit and all the wher she's had in her life. She's not a passive person - nothing about her personality is - and she's not afraid to go toe to toe with a wher. She probably SHOULD be, but she's put down enough of the creatures in her life she feels like she has their lives easily in her hand. In that, she expects her flit and wher to be completely obedient.

* CONFIDENT: She's been through some shit and she's still alive. If Meyelthra told the sun not to rise, she's pretty sure it wouldn't. When she's committed to a thought, a phrase, an idea - she's behind it 100% and it doesn't occur to her that she might fail or falter. That's just not in her nature.

* SADIST: Meyelthra has a cruel streak and pain doesn't bother her. If anything, it's a learning tool. The harshest lessons stick with you and the ones that leave a scar are not easily forgotten. If someone is willing to hurt someone over something, then she understands just how important it must be - and she's willing to do the same over things that are important to her.

* CONTRARY: For all her anger, violence, and sadistic tendencies - for all that she's kept the world at arm's length, there are two people that have managed to get close to her. X'hos, just through sheer time and some odd sense of attachment the Rider has to her, and her twin. Meyelthra is very attached to her twin - and not even she can really say way. Some days she chalks it up to a narcissistic echo that her twin is 'like her', other days it's because she wants to cling to some sense of family and she feels like her twin is the only one that could possibly understand her. Whatever it is, Meyelthra loves her twin with all of her tiny black heart.

The Magic Touch: No one would guess it, but Meyelthra is a big cuddler. She likes sleeping tangled up with X'hos. She doesn't like to talk about it.

Tell us a story...

This is the perfect place for you to write out your character’s history. Dot points work out best. So list the important events in their life, a small description of what happened, and their emotional reaction to the event with no more than 5 turns between each event.

* 2567-2576, 0-5 Meyelthra is born a twin into a well off enough family. From the moment she's able to, though, it's rapidly apparent she's quite the independent individual. Crawling around on her own, trying to get into everything. Exploring fearlessly with no care or concern for her siblings. She grows up with much the same mentality, wanting to know more about the world and resenting being stuck in the home and being taught to be a 'good holder girl' - something she wants absolutely nothing to do with. She resents her siblings that are well behaved and sees it as some sort of competition to be better than her siblings that aren't behaving - better in all the worst ways. Who can get away with more, who can see more, who can get out, etc. She's not exactly a terror, but she's not well behaved by any stretch. Each additional sibling is just another distraction for her parents that will hopefully free her up to get out of the house.

* 2572-2576, 5-9 She ends up 'befriending' some of the wild orphan kids in Fort, who teach her all manner of terrible things. How to steal, how to sneak around, how to pick pockets. In turn, she sneaks food out of the house for them. They become more like kindred spirits than her family ever was and invariably teach her far more about the underbelly of Fort than a child should ever be exposed to. Rather than being afraid, her and her little band of terror friends see it as a challenge and some fantastical place to explore.

* 2576-2582, 9-15 Turning into a little lady was hard for Meyelthra. She was one of those wild little girls that didn't want to grow up and had a hard time as she slowly realized that the world began to see her differently too. It's one thing to be a wild kid running around as a 'gang', pilfering from pockets, and quite another to be a young girl. Her and her little band of friends stumble on a flit nest and in true 'grungy holder fashion' plan to eat the eggs - but there are a couple left that she and another end up keeping. Thus Snap is born.

It's not lost on her that even her parents begin to treat her differently. To this, Meyelthra's reaction is... Extreme. She flees her harper lessons, refuses to talk about any manner of craft, and essentially loses herself quite readily in the underbelly of Fort. Sometimes for days at a time. When her parents seem determined to marry her off, Meyelthra's rebellion is extreme - she ends up pregnant with an unknown gang member. And she readily tells her parents she doesn't know who the father is.

This heavily ruins any chance of her getting a reasonable marriage and she invariably carries the child to term in one of Fort's brothels and gives the babe up to one of the whores there without even naming it. Again, to the great displeasure of her parents.

Talk of marriage, however, stops.

* 2582-2587, 15-20 If there was any question about Meyelthra's fall from her family, these turns certainly clarify that. She essentially moves out of her family's house and want nothing to do with them. Her orphaned 'gang' eventually is consumed by a larger one and she readily becomes a part of it. Wher fighting seems to be the thing of this gang - as well as gambling and whoring - but she doesn't have an interest in the latter two. Instead, she sleeps with a gang member for a wher egg to get herself started. It hatches into a tiny, sweet green by the name of Elthrask but she doesn't last long. Meyelthra's rough in training and puts the wher in an ill advised fight before she's even an adult and she's killed. Some fights and marks later, Meyelthra ends up with another egg that hatches into a bulky blue by the name of Elthsk.

He lasts a bit longer than Elthrask. He dies from injuries he sustains in winning a fight, but the payout is enough that she secures herself a nice gold egg, one that hatches into a pale, pretty gold Meysk. For this, Meyelthra has big plans. She wants to sell the eggs, really set herself up nice.

However, she's jumped early in Meysk's life. Though Meyelthra barely survives the encounter and robbed of most of what she has, the young Gold wher is butchered in front of her and left for dead. Leaving Meyelthra to start over.

She recovers slowly, relies heavily on a hook up with a gang member she knows, and falls pregnant from his attentions. While carrying the babe to term, she is 'gifted' a blue wher by the name of Elthrask who she trains while pregnant. When the babe is born, she gives up the little girl to the brothel and jumps back into wher fighting. The Blue does well for a handful of fights, dying to earn her a bigger egg that promises to hatch a better wher.

Sure enough, riding on the earnings of Elthrask and doing odd enforcement jobs for the gang, Meyesk hatches and she immediately sets on training him.

It's a good, lucky two turns for the pair of them before Thread stops falling and wher fighting in shut down. Pissed off, Meyelthra is invariably hauled off to the weyr with the rest of the Hold.

* 2587, 20 Moving to the weyr is a trying time for Meyelthra. Having nowhere to stay, and refusing to be crammed into the collective caverns with the rest of the 'family-less' holders, she flits from Rider to Rider until she ends up quite literally running into X'hos. Lucky for her, since she'd just been kicked out of her former partner's weyr. Latching on to an opportunity when presented itself, she simply inserts herself in his life. He's easy, her weyr is infinitely more comfortable than some big cavern with other people, and he listens to her. Works for her.

* 2590, 23 Time flies when you're having fun. She's still with X'hos and she's managing in the weyr. Bored but there's not much to be done about that. The idea of moving to the Mine Hall is idly alluring, but she's not quite willing to leave her cushy life in the weyr.

She’d been here before. Kicked out, without a place to go. Overstaying her welcome was something Meyelthra was used to. So when the Blue Rider she’d been bunking with had quite literally stuffed what clothes Meyelthra had called her own in a bag and tossed them out in the hall, then bodily shoved Meyelthra out next, it’d taken everything in her not to go after the bastard.

If Meyesk had been near by, it would’ve been a fight. Unfortunately for her, and luckily for the Rider, her blasted weyr and flit were both several tunnels away chewing on some bones she’d been able to barter from the herders after a day’s work. They didn’t give a runner’s shit about Meyelthra or the fact they were, effectively, roomless.

Homeless? How did that work in the weyr?

Fuck him anyways. She hauled her bag up on her shoulder and stalked the tunnels, wondering if she could hit up some old acquaintances from Fort Hold. Not something Meyelthra wanted to do, mind. Most people she knew would just as well stab her while she was sleeping than take her in. Neither did she want to crawl into that pit of a cave they called the general sleeping cavern.

Fuck all that too.

Maybe a good scrub to improve her mood, then she could sort things out while she soaked. Surely there was somewhere...

The Flight Lust and Gold’s call hit her, making Meyelthra both curse the timing and wonder at her good fortune. At the very least, she could shack up with a Rider for a bit. They were infinitely less discerning about who they took back to their weyr.

That’d give her at least a day or two. Maybe three.

When Meyelthra saw a particularly handsome man – presumably a Rider – making his way from the bathing springs in nothing but a towel, she knew she’d found her first target. If he didn’t work out, well... there was an entire weyr being enveloped in Flight Lust. She was bound to find someone. That he was already so close to being undressed just made things easier, in her opinion. Letting her bag drop in the tunnel, she sauntered up to him with a faint smirk and pushed him back against the cold tunnel wall.

She could say the Flight Lust made her do it if he protested too much. Not that Meyelthra gave him much of a chance to protest before she gripped his jaw and drug him into a heated kiss, her other hand tugging at the towel.

Meyesk
Pronounced:

Date of Birth:
04.04.2585 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold
Wher Color:
Bronze
Egg Description:
A nice, fat egg with a lot of wrinkles she won as a prize from a fight. She promptly 'retired' the Blue that had won it for her to the Butchers since she saw the big egg as an upgrade.
Measurements: Listed in the wher information.
Mature Length: 4.5M
Mature Height: 1.7M

General Appearance...

Meyesk hatched a burly, dark burnt bronze and pretty much remained that coloration as he grew. What pleased Meyelthra the most, however, is how big he was at hatching - and how that's also been pretty consistent. You'll be hard pressed to find a bigger Bronze wher, and he's just as muscled as expected of a fighting wher. Just a shame one had to die for him to be bonded to her.

Personality...

Empathetic: Meyesk and Meyelthra are not what you'd call 'best friends'. More like working associates. They don't share much and what communication is shared is often either physical on his end or verbal commands on hers.

Likes:
Food : Of any kind. Flit, wher, runner, herdbeast, human. It doesn't matter to Meyesk. If it's living, it can be killed, and he can eat it. Best to keep tiny creatures away from him.

Fighting : He's a monster and he likes being one. Give him any excuse to throw his weight around, and he'll use it. Meyesk needs very little prompting to become violent, and he whole heartedly loves it.

Dislikes:
Complicated Orders : He's a simple wher with simple pleasures. Don't complicate tasks for him or he'll get easily frustrated.

Wher in his personal space : While he has to be told to fight, he has a 'bubble' that is his. Don't invade it.

Strengths:

* FIGHTING : Meyesk was bred for, and has lived a lot of his life as, a fighter. Since he's survived this long, one could argue he's good at it. Being big and strong helps.

* OBEDIENT : He has no problem following commands from Meyelthra. He understands that they're connected, that she's in charge, and listens to what she says.

Weaknesses:

* UNCARING : Meyesk is obedient, but he doesn't care about Meyelthra. There is no love between them and he will not act on her behalf out of a sense of duty or desire to 'protect' her. They take care of themselves. If she wants him to do something, she'll tell him. Otherwise, he'll passively watch her get stabbed.

* NOT TERRITORIAL : It's been trained out of him. Meyesk doesn't care about other wher unless they're in his personal space. Other than that, so long as he's not told to fight them - or he's not defending himself - they're just props. So he's a shit guard wher.

Name:
Snap
Pronounced:
Just like it sounds.
Color:
Blue
Date of Birth:
2580 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold

General Appearance...

Snap is a pale purple blue with one teal wing. He's always had that odd Wing and for that reason alone she didn't try to eat him. Since he's so small, she didn't think he'd eat much either. Snap's always been small and retained his blotched blue coloration. If drunk, Meyelthra will admit he's pretty.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Snap is a quiet thing and will only show pictures to Meyelthra if she asks for something specific. Otherwise, he rarely makes much noise at all. He doesn't like drawing attention to himself.

Likes:
Cuddles : It doesn't happen often, but he likes being held and petted by Meyelthra. He especially likes when she lets him sleep with her.

Bones : He likes chewing on them. They're a nice treat for a job well done.

Dislikes:
Whers : They have been known to try and eat him. Meyesk isn't an exception.

Men : X'hos is an exception. The company that Meyelthra generally kept at Fort was a rough, mean lot and Snaps generally hated them all. He'd hiss and snap. But he does like the Rider his bonded has shacked up with.

Family & Friends / OOC Drug Dealer's Healer Brother
« on: September 11, 2017, 05:19:11 PM »

"It doesn’t matter what happens, mistakes we might make – we’re still family."

Quenneca // Drug Dealer – Former Healer // 29

About the Character:
Quenneca is a former Healer turned drug dealer during the Pass who is now more of a hobbiest. She grows Psilo shrooms, smokeweed, and numbweed in her room at the weyr because she likes growing things though I suspect she’ll be heading over to the Mine Hall soon to see if she can start growing other fun things there. She means well but she always thinks she knows better, which inadvertently got her kicked out of the Healer’s Hall and ultimately created a huge rift between her and her family – except her and her brother.

Wanted ICly:
Naussec – name not negotiable – is pretty much stuck between trying to be the Healer their father wants to be while still trying to care for his sister who is tossed to the darker parts of Fort. He’s meant to be a pretty good healer, perhaps a bit lost in his work because he’s trying so hard to be a good son – mayhaps at the expense or exclusion of a marriage.

Wanted OOCly:
Obviously family plottage now that they’re at the weyr. Mayhaps past plots. I’d like them to be able to reconnect after their father dies. I suspect that Naussec doesn’t approve of anything Quenneca does and she heavily resents that he’s been able to become the Healer she’s always wanted to become, but they both work really hard to set that aside since, well, everyone else in their family is dead and they both suck at relationships since they’re awful workaholics.

As always, please chat at me if you want to play this character and please make him adoptable. <3

Family & Friends / OOC It's like a friend. Like a Best Friend.
« on: September 02, 2017, 03:24:25 AM »

"Life is too short to do anything but enjoy it – no matter what happens."

Daysepona // weyrfolk // 17

About the Character:
Daysepona, or Daysa as… her friends would call her if she had any, is a sweet, optimistic girl who has had a bit of a rough life. She works hard with no complaint, finds a reason to smile no matter what’s happened, and you’d never guess she’s had a bit of a rough life. Or that she’s seeing a particularly rough bronzer in Jungle, M'kale.

She’s not the brightest girl and politics are WAY over her head. She’s also pretty awful in social situations, but she means very, very well.

Wanted ICly:
My sweet Daysa needs a bestie. With Colvin out of play, I’d like for her to find someone she can pal around with. Maybe someone who wants to get her into trouble, open her eyes up, get her to see the world. This doesn’t have to be the nicest of friendships and it can be for all sorts of reasons, but I want someone more worldly than her – not hard to do – and they don’t have to like M'kale either. Though it’d be nice if they did genuinely want to be her friend.

Wanted OOCly:
Yup. Best friend wanted. For better or worse. Long term plots and the like. Hit me up here or on discord. 8D Riders, crafters, grungy holders. Any will work because Daysa wouldn’t know a viper if it bit her and nearly killed her. She’d probably apologize for getting in the viper’s way.

Let’s have some fun with this.

IF you do make a character for this ad, as always, please make it adoptable. <3

Other / OOC Sr Weyrwoman's Aides
« on: September 01, 2017, 02:40:09 AM »

"I don’t always expect you to agree with me, but you damned well better be honest."

Halirina // Sr Weyrwoman // 52

About the Character:
Halirina is a very traditional, no non-sense sort of woman. She cares deeply for the Weyr and has a sense of duty about as big as her dragon’s ego. If anyone is going to work directly under her as her aide, it’s important to remember respect above all – especially around Kalestath. The Gold isn’t above letting someone know when they’ve toed a line too many times and if Kalestath doesn’t like you, you won’t last long in the position at all. That being said, Halirina doesn’t want a bunch of chipping ‘yes men’ either. Intelligent and well-formed, but respectful, rebuttal is the best way to get through to her. Especially from those that she respects.

She doesn’t allow many close to her, but the aides are essentially her shadows. Messengers, her voice when she’s not around, and with that comes a hefty dose of responsibility… as well as a shit ton of fall out if you misspeak or toe out of line. This isn’t the position to ‘push the envelope’ as it were, as Halirina nor Kalestath will tolerate that even one bit.

Wanted ICly:
The Oldest
Aide One
Male or female, it doesn’t matter. But this aide has been with Halirina the longest. For upwards of 30 turns, so they’re as close to friends as subordinate and superior might be. Halirina may never directly confide in this person, but she trusts them – and in that, this person will have had to earn that trust over a long time. No lying, no backstabbing, but unwavering loyalty and sense of duty to the Weyrwoman and the Weyr at large. Kalestath is probably fond of this person and they often will help oil the giant Gold, which could end in idle chatter between Halirina and this Aide often.

The Firmest
Aide Two
Male or female, it doesn’t matter. Though this Aide hasn’t been with Halirina as long as the first, they have a good head on their shoulder and they’re not afraid to let Halirina know when they might not agree with her – something she can appreciate from time to time. They should still have a keen sense of duty to the Weyr, but perhaps a softer spot for a particular area like the lower cavers – those that might get over looked or otherwise forgotten in the craziness of the Threadfall, so they kept such affairs firmly in Halirina’s mind even as the skies burned with Thread so no one would be forgotten. They are frequently called to double check records and recount stores, so there is a great deal of trust in this Aide not to be ‘bought’ out by anyone or play favorites. Everyone gets equal share.

The Youngest
Aide Three
Male or female, it doesn’t matter. Though this is the youngest of the aides, that doesn’t mean they just entered in Halirina’s service either. Having been with the weyrwoman for at least 8+ turns, they are spry and always seem to find a positive note no matter the news, which might infuriate the Weyrwoman but she keeps this Aide around for the chipper attitude and endless amount of energy. A reminder that even at the worst, there’s always something to look forward to – and that’s exactly what this Aide does. This aide plays fetch for Halirina often and, much to the annoyance of the Craftmasters, they are frequently in their business – asking seemingly inane questions, checking up on their records, but always pleasantly and never overstaying their welcome. Much like the other two, Duty to the weyr and the weyrwoman will always come first.

Wanted OOCly:
So the Sr Weyrwoman has three aides and I thought it might be fun to get them played. I’m not looking for anyone to combat Halirina – she won’t stand for it and, frankly, they’d not have lasted long. The position is purely at the will of Halirina so you can imagine these people must be in her good graces if the ‘youngest’ has been attending her for 8 some turns. And that’s exactly what I’m lookin’ for. People she can rely on, mayhaps confide in, and be her eyes/ears around the weyr with loyalty to her and the weyr alone.

It’s about time Halirina stop being so alone in this campaign against Maeron and the pain-in-the-ass holders eh? While they do have the authority to speak with her voice, it should be done sparingly and know that when that happens, it could very well come down very harshly on them if Halirina does not approve what they’ve done. Essentially, it should only be done in the most extreme of circumstances.

That being said, if any character is made for this ad it should be Adoptable and, please, talk to me first. <3

Weyrfolk / Approved Ivonai [ 28.2.2563 / Weyrfolk ]
« on: August 27, 2017, 02:28:05 AM »

Play By:
Natalie Dormer
Biography

Name:
Ivonai
Pronounced:
Eye-von-ay
Nicknames:
Ivy, but only to N'dar
Date of Birth:
28.02.2563 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold
Spouse:
N'dar

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Ivonai is a small, slender woman at 5'3". She's never been big, largely due to being orphaned at a young age and struggling with nutrition during a rough time at Fort. Even so, she has a pretty face, an easy smile, and naturally blonde hair that she keeps at chest length. Unphased by much of what she's been through in life, Ivonai still bears scars from knife fights on her arms and shoulders though she's not ashamed of them. She wears tanktops when the weather permits, enjoys the rain on the island, and has a dress or two that she'll take out when she's feeling particularly pretty.

In her more practical moments, or when she's working around the weyr, Ivonia is dressed in simple pants and a button up but sleeveless shirt. Quick to volunteer where needed, she's found in the kitchens, hauling excess rock out of tunnels being worked on, or wandering the tunnels lighting glows where no one wants to as she's not afraid of spinners or tunnelsnakes.

She's generally walking with a bit of a bounce to her step and with purpose, looking for the next task or thing to be done with a wellspring of energy.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Ivonai narrowly survived Fort Hold by stealing from others and through the random acts of kindness from others. Refusing to become a whore, she begged and stole instead. Careful not to fall into any gang that could take advantage of her, Ivonai instead relied heavily on N'dar as she grew up and they grew close. Her lack of affiliations with any gang, however, meant that she was frequently on the move which meant she was often malnourished - but she was free and her own person. Thankful for every day she fought to have.

Response to dragon color mutations: Dragons have always been Ivonai idea, and ticket, to a better life. No matter their color. She only became more aware of the politics involved in the mutations when N'dar became a Rider and she still thinks it's a people being nitpicky. Be thankful for what you have.

Who are you...

Likes: Wandering the Tunnels : One of her favorite tasks has always been lighting glow baskets in the deeper tunnels. While it would seem a lonely, or even nervous, task she actually quite enjoys it. Exploring the tunnels, providing light, ensuring people can find their way… It's exactly the sort of thing she likes doing. The quiet and seclusion doesn't bother her at all.

Oiling Dragons : Not something that a weyrfolk lady gets to do, but it's a chore that she actually enjoys. If that was a regular task she could be assigned, it'd be something she'd do all the time. Mostly because a quiet part of her wishes she could've been a candidate and impress one herself - alas.

Food : Arriving at the weyr, and actually being granted rations, is one of the greatest gifts. The weyrfolk never understood how great they had it.

Dislikes:
Complainers : Seriously. Unless someone has had it really, really, really rough then everyone can just shut up and get to work. Only way to make it better is to get on it or make a change.

Injured Wher : Which should be obvious, but it conflicted heavily for her when she was growing up and she participated by necessity in wher fights with her small green Ivisk. It was never something she enjoyed, but did anyway as a means of living rather than being a whore. It was a world she became a part of despite her very real resentment for it all.

Gold Flights : Being mated to a Bronzer means this sorta thing is just a fact of life, and while she does encourage him to participate, she always secretly hopes he loses. That being said, Ivonai does hate gold Flights and gets anxious every time they happen.

Strengths:

* STRONG WILLED : Ivonai has been through a lot - living on the streets and tunnels in Fort Hold, stealing to survive, being a wher fighter - and she doesn't let it get to her. She's moved on, she smiles often, and she's accepted that the things she's done and the people she's killed before are in her past.

* SURVIVOR : While the Ivonai who lives and works in the weyr is a much softer lady than the one who fought to survive in the Hold, she is just that - a survivor. She will do whatever she must to stay alive - up to and including killing another. Her life, and Nal's / N'dar's, and her children's, are the most important thing and all that ultimately matter.

* HELPFUL : When she's working, Ivonai is the epitome of the most helpful person ever. She does whatever she can to be helpful as it's her way of making the world a better place.

* QUICK : She's small, not very strong, but if it came down to a fight, Ivonai is quick. Don't underestimate her just because of her size.

* DEFT HANDS : Ivonai spent a lot of time as a thief and that hasn't really left her. While she doesn't go out of her way to steal all the time, she has quick, fidgety hands that seem to have a mind of their own. For basic, or semi-complicated tasks, that can be a good thing.

Weaknesses:

* CODEPENDANT : So much of her world revolves around N'dar that she'd be well and truly lost without him. Especially now that they're at the weyr and more of an established family with children.

* PHYSICALLY WEAK : Without a blade, Ivonai isn't much of a threat at all. Her punches are laughable and she's no weight to throw around. Really.

* NARROW MINDED : Ivonai has a hard time envisioning anything beyond what she's already made her mind up about. While she is very free thinking, she can't empathize or understand other people's mode of thinking - like she can't comprehend why traditional people think the way they do or, if someone disagrees with her, she just thinks they're wrong because they disagree with her. She's always right.

* CONFRONTATIONAL : Though she's tiny, Ivonai has never felt helpless. As such, she's never understood that maybe she shouldn't get in fights with people. So she doesn't back down and she's always willing to speak her mind.

* KLEPTO : She likes taking things. It's just… it's bad and a force of habit from desperate times. Things she doesn't even need or want. If she gets caught, she'll laugh it off and apologize. Otherwise, she gives the things she finds to her kids.

Describe Yourself:

* ROMANTIC: N'dar has been a constant in her life and, in a very traditional fashion, her one and only. Her soul mate. Though he's been with others during his stint as a candidate, Ivonai has never and she is very much in love with her Bronzer.

* MOTHERLY: Having never been healthy enough to carry babies to term while she lived at Fort Hold, she cherishes the family they have now at the Weyr. This doesn't extend to the other children at the creche, but she dotes on her own babies with stolen gifts.

* GRATEFUL: She wouldn't say it's loyalty, but rather she is very grateful to have been able to work and live at the weyr. For escaping the terrible life of the Hold and she wants to be able to pay that back - to help others and hopefully, in some way, save them.

* PLAYFUL: She's a happy lady who smiles often, who plays with her children, who laughs and finds humor in life when she can.

* WISTFUL: Ivonai wishes that she could've been a lot more in life. A crafter, a rider - which means she's picked up on a lot of skills but she's not a master / journeyman or the like at any of them. She volunteers a lot, wants to help out where she can, but she'll only ever be a weyrfolk.

The Magic Touch: She fidgets with her hands when she's bored - picks at things, idly braids a strip of cloth she carries around, or plays with her hair.

Tell us a story...

* 2563-2568, 0-5 Born to an older whore in a brothel in Fort, Iarammie spent a lot of her time – or as much as she could – pregnant. Not because she liked children, mind, but because it got her some ‘special’ treatment by the owner. That special treatment being some extra food and some time off as she came to term. Once the babe was born, however, Iarammie wanted little to do with the girl. She was at best an absentee mother, if she could be called ‘mother’ at all. The only thing Iarammie ever gave any of her children were their names. Everything else was ‘charity’ from the brothel, the other women, and it became quickly apparent to the young Ivonai that the brothel was not a place she wanted to be. Though she never celebrated her name day, she ran away from the brothel shortly after turning five. She wanted nothing to do with her mother, the dirty men that lived and visited there, or the things that took place there.

* 2568-2572, 5-9 Ivonai learns pretty quick that life in the tunnels and streets of Fort are as unforgiving as her mother had been. Because she’s small and had already learned to be out of the way, she takes to stealing easily. Though she’s caught a handful of times, she does get away and learns from it. Early on in her ‘thieving career’, she runs into another ‘orphaned’ boy by the name of Nal. She takes it upon herself to provide for him, stealing to feed and clothe both herself and him. It’s during one such bout of scavenging that she comes upon a mostly destroyed flit nest. She hoards some of the eggs to eat for later – cooks up two for them when she finds them. In the process of saving the eggs to eat for later, one does end up hatching. A frosty blue that Ivonai ends up keeping and naming Snow – but only after she makes the baby flit promise to help keep them alive. ( The poor creature had no idea what was going on, it was just hungry. ) However, after feeding Snow the other egg and hard scraps, the tiny creature ends up proving to be invaluable at helping them steal – either being a distraction or outright stealing things for them. It’s quite lucky for them, and Snow, that flits are highly mobile even after being born. Ivonai learns a lot from the little flit and they help eachother to not only survive, but provide for Nal as well. The older they get, however, the harder it is to be unnoticed.

* 2572-2580, 9-17 Inevitably, both Nal and Ivonai are drawing too much attention to themselves and need more food than both she and Snow can steal to keep the three of them adequately fed. Though Nal is a turn younger than her, the pair of them hatch a plan to get him involved in one of the many gangs around Fort. After a handful of weeks figuring out the best way to get involved, the pair decide to get him a wher. Ivonai and Snow steal an egg from one of the Wher Butchers so by the time Nal opts to join a gang, he has a growing wher to help ‘sell himself’ to them. Eventually, it works. Though he gets into some scuffles getting into the gang, they take him in and use him for courier work – and ‘training’ – as his wher grows up. Ivonai becomes his secret. She steals some to keep herself fed while he gets himself settled in the gang but they meet up occasionally. It isn’t until his wher is grown, and Nal has filled out some that he finds his place in the gang and invariably a place for Ivonai to stay with him. The handful of times that she’s seen with him, it’s handwaved that she’s a drudge whore – lower than the whores in the brothel – and no one thinks anything more of it.

Though Nal and Ivonai are together during this time, malnutrition prevents Ivonai from carrying any child to term. She keeps this mostly to herself, not wanting to distract Nal from his training and the careful secret they have to maintain with his place in the gang and hers on the streets and tunnels of Fort. Nal falls into the wher fighting pits to provide for not only himself, but her as well. Ivonai takes to watching his back – never a part of the gang but always involved, carefully infiltrating the wher fighting rings so she can look out for him or be around in the event he loses or back him up when he needs to collect earnings. Having been more of a fighter than Nal growing up, Ivonai ends up killing for him on a handful of occasions. To keep him from being ‘retired’ early, to keep his wher from being hobbled and a fight thrown, or to keep their secret. It’s not a perfect life, but they make it work.

Some time during her 16th turn, Nal and Ivonai secure her a Green wher for additional protection. She’s a small thing but Nal and Ivonai start teaching her early on to be ferocious to be a vital member of their ‘family’.

* 2580-2581, 17-18 Later in the turn, everything seems to fall a part. Nal loses a fight, fairly, and is without a wher. While not detrimental in and of itself, the next day a Search Rider pegs him as Dragon Rider material. While the gang very much wants him to refuse, Ivonai and Nal both know that this is an opportunity he shouldn’t pass up – even if it means he’ll be leaving her behind for an indeterminate amount of time. Only at her insistence does Nal take the Search Rider up on the offer with the promise that as soon as he’s able, he’ll come back for Ivonai.

When Nal leaves, Ivonai is left with Snow and a growing Ivisk. Suddenly alone, she falls back to thieving – which works for a time. Certainly with Snow’s help. But it’s hard to go unnoticed, especially to get all she needs to not starve. Ivonai eventually shacks up with the gang that Nal had worked with and, because she’s quite a fighter, doesn’t end up as a whore but a pick pocket and thief for them – with the understanding that once her wher is old enough, she’ll be a fighter.

* 2581-2583, 18-20 When Ivisk became mature enough to fight, Ivonai didn’t have much of a choice. Too small and hardly strong enough to throw her own weight around, she became reliant on Ivisk to do so for her. The green wher was entered into the fighting rings and they made a living off of it – Snow became her look out as she had been for Nal. For two turns, Ivonai and Ivisk managed. Though she didn’t win every fight, Ivisk still did well for herself and Ivonai never had to replace the wher, though there were several weeks when the wher was out of a fight for a time or two to heal up. It seemed like a nightmare that might not ever end until finally, one day, Nal shows up with a dragon.

Just like he promised. And he’s N'dar now.

* 2583-2587, 20-24 While Ivonai had never doubted N'dar, it almost seemed surreal to be brought to Fort Weyr. The differences between the two were certainly night and day and the weyr definitely brought her closer to the danger that is Thread. Or rather, closer to the realization of what they’re dealing with. Growing up, Thread was just a thing in the sky over head. At the weyr, it was ‘the enemy’. To suddenly be with him though, and in the structured safety of the weyr with Snow and Ivisk, is something else entirely. It takes Ivonai several weeks to rest up and essentially recover from her time at Fort Hold, but she falls into the work force at the weyr readily enough once she has. Though she worries for N'dar, she sees the importance of what he does and tries to find ways around the weyr to help out as much as she can while he’s flying Thread.

It comes as quite a shock to her, initially, when she becomes pregnant at the weyr – quite quickly, but she’s overjoyed as she’s able to carry the babe to term and they have their first child. A little girl by the name of Navona. Though it takes some convincing, Ivonai does drop the girl off at the creche but only when she’s working. She ensures she’s the one to feed and tend the little girl when she can – and takes breaks throughout her working shift to do so – as well as making space for the babe in their weyr so the little girl can sleep with them, when they sleep. Involving herself, and N'dar, as much as they can be involved given the state of the weyr and how Thread is falling.

Much to Ivonai’s joy, she’s able to have a little boy later on. The rationing of meals and hard, but steady work seems to agree with her. She takes to mothering him as she did her first little girl, wanting to be as involved in her children’s lives as she can be while still being a vital member of the weyr.

* 2587-2590, 24-27 When Thread stopped falling, Ivonai was not the only one who couldn’t believe it. To have not only herself, but her weyrmate survive, to see the end of the Pass was everything she could hope for. Even more so that there is an island discovered that might provide them with real food and a better future.

Arriving at Fort Isle renews her sense of purpose and, if anything, makes Ivonai very grateful to the weyr for all that it’s provided for her and her family. She’s one of the first weyrfolk over to help with construction and set up – though she has no formal training, she’s a hard worker – and not even when the Hunters are revealed is she dissuaded from Southern Winds being her new home. It just means they have something new to deal with and she’s certain that those in Jungle Wing will take care of it.

Not too long after their arrival on the island – in 2588 – she has another babe. Having come from literally nothing in Fort Hold to a beautiful island and her family surviving the Pass, there’s not a lot that Ivonai isn’t thankful for. Nor does she tolerate anyone being overly ‘negative’ about the weyr that has given her and her family so much.
The loss of Nal’s wher, Nalesk, was… well, it was a set back. Ivonai refused to allow herself to think of it as anything else. To fall into the trap of negative thinking. So what they’d lost their cozy den and he’d fallen out of favor with the gang? Such things were fickle and easily won back, in due time.

For today, though, Ivonai and Snow were on the look out for something easy and quick to eat. Later in the evening they’d slink into the deep tunnels of Fort Hold, skirt past brothels and gambling Dens, and find somewhere they could rest. Somewhere warm. Unfortunately for now, she had to be out and about. Looking for a good mark to either steal from or outright assault and mug.

She was that hungry. That desperate.

Nal was down a side alley, keeping a separate lookout while she was in the adjacent. Ideally, any well meaning Peacekeeper would run into Nal before her and he could suitably distract them if… and only if… she managed to find a good mark.

Ivonai nor Snow paid any mind to the dragon that flew over head. Not like they could eat it.

The same chill that had Ivonai on edge, and particularly hungry, seemed to be keeping most either inside or in the tunnels she didn’t want to hunt in. Some were particularly rife with gang members and they were harder to deal with, more apt to fight her. More likely to recognize her.

Ivonai was about to call the evening hunt a loss when Nal came dashing in her direction, which immediately set the short, wiry woman on alert. Snow perked up on her shoulder and flared his wings, ready to take off and either become a distraction or a very painful nuisance.

But Nal was alone. Anxious even. What fell out of his mouth had her own eyes going wide and a hand absently running through her short, dirty blonde hair. “I… You… You were searched?” Ivonai couldn’t believe it. It seemed too good to be true. A tentative smile tugged at her lips. That would mean… he could actually escape this terrible place.

Snow calmed when it seemed there wasn’t an immediate reason for him to act, thrumming softly in greeting. He was nearly tossed off Ivonai’s shoulder when she pulled Nal into a quick hug. “This is great news!” It hadn’t yet occurred to her that he had been searched – not them.

Wher Details

Name:
Ivisk
Pronounced:
Eh-veh-sk
Date of Birth:
2579 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold
Wher Color:
Green
Egg Description:
A small, pale egg. Almost white. Barely wrinkled. Easily pilfered by Ivonai and not really missed at all given the size.
Measurements: Listed in the wher information.
Mature Length: 2.8M
Mature Height: 1M

General Appearance...

When Ivisk hatched, she was so small Ivonai almost worried she'd grabbed a flit egg. Obviously not, but still A tiny, dark green wher that has eventually lightened up to mint green with darker high lights and wings - even though they're mostly useless. Though she's small, and grew to be on the small end of green whers, Ivisk is a ferocious beast. With no formal training, she's a bit feral and scarred up. But she means well.

Personality...

Empathetic: Ivisk is very attached to Ivonai and though she only knows rudimentary commands, she has been trained to react to her since she's a fighting wher.

Likes:
Bouncing : She likes running around, jumping in place, and pouncing on other wher and dragon. Usually it's in a playful bout, but she can easily turn aggressive.

Babies : No matter how aggressive Ivisk might be, she's very cuddly with Ivonai's children and likes being a baby sitter.

Fighting : Ivisk doesn't get angry - to her, fighting is just another game. A painful, burst of motion and energy game, that she has to win for Ivonai.

Dislikes:

People : Really. She hates them. Only N'dar and family - her babies - are the exception. Otherwise she wants nothing to do with people and she'll let them know. People have proven to be terrible and bad, and she'll bite.

Being collared / muzzled : Any sort of cage, tether, muzzle etc she hates. Ivisk thinks she's a good wher and doesn't need any of that. Put her in a cage, tie her up, etc and she's a monster.

Strengths:

* FEROCIOUS : Ivisk is a beast of a wher for her size and fights with an 'all in' ferocity.  When she's in fight mode, she doesn't turn off until she's killed it or she's dead.

* SMART : For a wher. Though Ivisk has never been formally trained, she still follows Ivonai around and seems to intuitively know what her handler needs - as well as staying out of her way. She also seems to know the difference between when to attack and when not to. Usually.

Weaknesses:

* NO OFF : Once Ivisk has attacked, she has no 'off' switch. She has to be beaten off, pulled off by something bigger or stronger, or what she's attacking has to die. Commands don't work on her at that point.

* AGGRESSIVE : Ivisk is people aggressive. During her time as a fighting wher has left her very leery around people in general, so she doesn't like being touched, talked to, or approached by strangers at all. She'll bite without warning. Only N'dar and Ivonai's children are the exception.

Flit Details

Name:
Snow
Pronounced:
Just like it sounds
Color:
Blue
Date of Birth:
2569 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold

General Appearance...

Snow was a small, scrappy baby flit that hatched from a chilled egg, so he was lucky to have hatched at all. Hungry from the get go, he looked much as he does now – like chilled snow – and that’s why he was called as such. A simple name from a little girl. He has some scarring on his body now from fights he’s been in with other flits and people, mostly along his chest and wings, but they haven’t slowed him down.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Snow is a very communicative flit with precise pictures. While not formally trained, he and Ivonai have a very tight partnership gleaned over many a’theft, so his mental pictures are clear and concise.

Likes:
Stealing : Shouldn’t be a surprise, considering his upbringing, but he’s damned good at it too. Not just the stealing part, but the distraction part as well. He can do cute flips, trill something resembling a song. Whatever needs done so that either he can steal whatever is on your plate or Ivonai can. While his bonded isn’t much for stealing anymore, he still does. Mostly food though.

People Watching : Serving as a look out for part of his life means Snow has been trained to be very, very observant. He’s not a flighty little flit, but rather, the sort that watches people very intently. He notices just about everything that goes on around him and isn’t afraid to bite someone if he thinks they’re trying to pull something he doesn’t like.

Dislikes:
Invading his space : Don’t get too close to him, and don’t pet him without permission. Snow is like those cats that look like they want to be petted, but he doesn’t. Ever. Neither will he move away to indicate he doesn’t want to be touched. He’ll just bite.

Wher : Ivisk, obviously, is the exception but he has been almost eaten too many times in his life to care for them. He’s very hostile around wher and isn’t afraid to go for the eyes when necessary.

Crafters / Approved Gavita [ 21.5.2564 / Apprentice Smith ]
« on: August 25, 2017, 12:54:08 AM »

Play By:
Kiyomi Mccloskey
Biography

Name:
Gavita
Pronounced:
Gah-v-eh-tah
Nicknames:
None. It's Gavita.
Date of Birth:
21.05.2564 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Weyr
Spouse:
None Currently

Your Reflection...

Appearance:
Gavita stands at a sturdy 5'5". She's not lithe and her mother never said she was pretty, but rather she was always 'cute' growing up.  Coming into her own, Gavita preferred practical clothing over the dresses her mother wanted her in and eventually gave up on trying to put Gavita in. Now, she wears tank tops and jackets when the weather permits. Always pants and a good pair of boots in leather. Something practical and well-tended.

There are several notable scars on her arms from her time as a smith from a stray ember or when she slipped with a tool but she barely even notices them and comes up with a different story every time someone asks about them - half of the time the story doesn’t seem plausible.

Gavita keeps her black hair cut short because she hates bothering with it - but don't let that deceive you. It's her weakness. She loves it when other people play with it.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Gavita was one of those girls that 'lived in her own world'. Born into a family of crafters and expected to follow in her mother and father's foot steps as a healer, she was all too well aware that people died. When she didn't want to be a healer, got tired of hearing all the stories about how people were hurt, she found her own way. Was the Pass awful, yes. But she never saw it in the saw way that the dragonriders might, but through the too close perspective of the healers - an in that, she wanted to run. The farthest she could get was the Smith hall. That's where she found her quiet joy and her salvation.

Response to dragon color mutations: Gavita cares very little for the dragons. She understands their necessary, but she doesn't really understand that they're sentient. Not really. She sees them more as tools - like her own. She wouldn't get mad at her hammer for being an off color, so why would she be mad at a dragon for being black or red. Does it still function? All's good then.

Who are you...

Likes:
Work : Gavita is a smith at heart, and has been her whole life. That being said, it's not just the smithing she enjoys. Give her a task, a job, and she's the happiest. Especially a job where she can use her hands or the strength in her arms.

Storytelling : In another life, Gavita could've been a harper. A bad one. She likes making up stories about just about anything. Mud monsters, big fairy flies, singing fish in the deep ocean, clouds that turn into dancers, and just about anything else. She'd get in trouble when she was an apprentice for wasting wax tablet margins by doodling these stories when she was working on classwork. Now, most that know her are likely to smile and shake their head once she gets going.

Compliments : Blessed Faranth, she'll blush as hot as an ember. Gavita has always been called cute when she was growing up, but that sort of pandered off when she distanced herself from some of her family and began to forge her own way in life. Dressing down in a more boyish style and being smudged in dirt doesn't help either, but genuine compliments make her blush something fierce and she likes it - deep down. Even if she pretends otherwise and insists it's all not true.

Dislikes:
Blood / Injuries : While fully able to care for herself, don't ask her to patch you up or tend to you if you're feeling bad. Injuries and illness make her anxious and take her back to a time she'd just… rather avoid.

Meat : The lack of red meat doesn't really bother Gavita. She doesn't like the taste of wherry or herdbeast. Rather, she prefers all the veggies, herbs, and fish. Bring all that on.

Being Strong Armed : She doesn't like the phrase "because I said so". It's the worst thing to say to her to get her to do something and, much like the mountain she works in, she'll plant herself in place and become an unwavering obstacle until you tell her why. That's important to her.

Strengths:

* DRIVEN : Gavita is very motivated in the tasks she's given, and it's important to her that she does well. You won't see her half-assing a project or an assignment.

* COMPASSIONATE : She feels for people - people she doesn't even know - and she will go out of her way to help strangers if she notices they're in need. Though she's not really in a position to do much but donate her time, she will.

* HUMOROUS : Gavita can take a joke, and often makes them. She finds reasons to smile, though never at the expense of someone. Not to say she can't laugh at herself though. She'd rather laugh something off than take it overly serious. Life's too short for all that.

* IMAGINATIVE : It's just a past time, but it keeps her entertained and people seem to enjoy it. It can translate into her work, when it's allowed too, but Gavita has a very active imagination. It allows her to also see things from other people's perspective quite easily.

* INDEPENDENT : Gavita doesn't need other people, even if she does enjoy their company. She's perfectly happy working alone all day - and has - because she loses track of time. But that's ok to her too.

Weaknesses:

* SELF-CONCIOUS : She's struggled a lot finding her own way in life, and still sometimes falters as she works to define who she is and where she really belongs. While the Smith Hall has largely helped with that, she's still figuring some of that out - if she'll have a family, if she'll find someone to be with - ya know… big life choices like that.

* UNDERESTIMATED : She's small for a Smith and sometimes looked over for certain jobs. Because she is self-conscious, Gavita doesn't speak up and this has left her as an apprentice even now. A hard working one, but it's perceived that she's lacking ambition.

* SHY : It takes a lot to get past the silly, story sharing girl that keeps so many at arm's length to get really close to her.

* IGNORANT : Her knowledge of the world doesn't really extend past the healer hall, the smith hall, and how crafters live. All she knows about Riders is largely rumor and conjecture, even though she was raised in a weyr, because she was never really part of that world. So she can say a lot of ignorant things - and thinks a lot of ignorant things.

* CLOSETED : Gavita keeps a great many self-truths to herself even though it wouldn't upset the weyr at large, because it would upset her more traditional family. While her choice in life of being a smith created a wedge between her and her family, the fact she's only attracted to women has subconsciously pushed her farther from them as well. This isn't something she's open about, or she actively thinks about - she just doesn't bring anyone she's interested in around her family. To be involved with Gavita is to be a secret.

Describe Yourself:

* SWEET: There is a sweet streak in Gavita. She wants to help people, almost to the point that she goes out of her way to find people to help. She wants to feel useful, needed, and productive. She wants to take care of people - perhaps it runs in her family, where some of them are healers, or she's just a good person, but she volunteers what free time she has to various places. Never fully committing to the creche, the kitchens, construction, etc because she's devoted to her craft, but always sticking her hands in places that need a helping hand. Anyone can rely on her for that.

* CRAFTER BRED: Born to healers in the weyr, it was instilled in her in an early age the importance of learning and joining a crafthall. Though they were more the traditional, holder style crafters so she's never really lived the 'weyr life' ever though she grew up in a weyr. As such, open sexuality and relationships are a foreign concept to her.

* SELF-INVOLVED: Gavita has a very narrow world view. She doesn't think grand scale. Just what she's involved in - what she can do, what she can change.

* THOROUGH: Between her two well cared for weyr, her small but well-kept room, and her own well-tended clothes. Though she doesn't have much, Gavita cares very much for the things that she does own. It isn't that things are inherently important, but the things she's in charge of should be cared for appropriately.

* SCRAPPY: She likes rough housing with her brothers - the ones she's close to - and even wrestling with her whers. Or racing them in the tunnels. Bumps and bruises don't phase her.

The Magic Touch: Though she keeps her nails short, she hates having dirt under her nails so she frequently cleans under them or picks at her nails.

Tell us a story...

2564, 0 Born into a family of Healers, Gavita is the fourth child. Though it’s a ‘big’ family, they aren’t necessarily struggling either. As healers, they are well provided for by the weyr even if they’re not exactly part of the weyr life – meaning they’re getting enough to eat and have clothes enough for the family.

* 2568, 4 Garias is born. Another babe into the growing family. Gavita is actually quite excited and eager to welcome her little brother into the family. Though she’s not the best at ‘home work’, she tries to help out in taking care of him.

* 2573, 9 Paetta is born. A little sister! It becomes all the more important that Gavita help her parents take care of Garias while they tend to the new baby Paetta. More and more, they seem to be trying to groom her for the healer hall, idly trying to teach her things but she has no interest. Even less interest in chores too, but she does them and tries to teach her little brother too.

* 2576, 12 Galeenah and Penziel want their daughter to go into the Healer Hall – follow in their foot steps – but she doesn’t want to. Even so, they enroll their daughter and she lasts an grand two weeks before she has an explosive fight with them and stops attending classes. There’s some fall out with her parents now. She still lives with them, tries to take care of the house, but there’s a lot of distance between her and them as they effectively give up on her.

* 2577, 13 Gesten is born and Gavita uses that as an excuse to remain at home to help take care of the newborn babe. She’s able to semi-repair the relationship with her parents during this period, though it becomes damaged again when her parents want to get her married. This ends explosively again when Gavita actually uses a dragon rider to ‘run away’ to the Hold – taking up holder construction work to get away from her family and the weyr.

* 2578-2580, 14-16 Gavita’s time at the Hold is an eye opener. While she does get some ‘shelter’ staying with a Healer family friend, and has work doing construction in the Hold, seeing how bad life is at the Hold is just… shocking. Near appalling. Her work ethic, however, does draw the attention of what remains of the Smiths and she’s snatched up as an apprentice, something that she takes to with gusto as the lessons and learning is something she really, really enjoys. Being taken in as a smith, she's also gifted a wher egg that hatches into her best friend - Blue. Or rather, Gavisk.

* 2581-2587, 17-23 Gavita spends this time growing under the watchful eye of the Smiths that have taken her in and, in a way, she feels more at home with them than with her own family who she’s become estranged from. Though life at Fort Hold is, admittedly, awful Gavita feels a sense of giving back and she and the other smiths work to provide what tools and sense of order they can. She grows a lot in this time – becoming her own, independent person but she does miss her siblings. Especially Garias, who she helped raise more than the others.

* 2587, 23 When Thread ends and everyone will be going to one weyr, it seems like a weird dream. Gavita is very, very reserved because she knows this means she’ll actually get to see her family. Oddly enough, that’s what concerns her the most about the move. She helps pack everything up and they move. Sure enough, she does reconnect with her family with some varying degrees of success. There’s the initial disappointment that she’s not a healer, that she’s not married… but they’re happy she’s alive and she’s actually happy to see them.

* 2590, 26 Still an apprentice Smith, though she’s quite happy, Gavita has been slowly reconnecting with her family and working on the various projects around the weyr. While she’s happy that there is a Mine Hall being created, she’s quite content at the weyr – this time – and hesitant to move out and into the Hall.

There were few things to be excited about since she’d come to live at Fort Hold. The place was… in a word, rotten. Awful. Though she’d heard it from some healers that had done ‘time’ at the Hold, seeing it was believing. Gavita wasn’t certain she’d have had the courage to actually leave her family if she’d known what it’d actually be like.

Truthfully, she was lucky. Gavita had seen the thieves and whores that frequented the tunnels and pathways when the Peacekeepers weren’t about. Those that hadn’t had a place to take them in, as she had. Though Gavita had only arrived with a pack of clothes, she’d met up with some friends of the family in the Healer Hall and they’d taken her in.

Nice people. Though they didn’t have much, Gavita worked with the local construction crew to provide what she could in return. The scarcity of food was, well, a surprise. The weyr hadn’t ever seemed to have such a problem. Rationing was a thing, of course. But the sheer sense of desperation wasn’t… quite… the same.

Gavita had thought to go back. When a Search Rider had wandered the streets, or a supply drop had been made… She could’ve asked, or even begged. Said she had family, that it’d all been a mistake. Instead, she’d stuck it out. Worked. Struggled alongside everyone else. And now, in the dark quiet of her small room, she stared at the wher egg that had been gifted to her to mark the start of her apprenticeship in the Smith Hall.

Funny how things played out in the worst of places.

Name:
Gavisk Nickname Blue.
Pronounced:
Gah-veh-sk
Date of Birth:
2580 9th Pass
Place of Birth:
Fort Hold
Wher Color:
Blue
Egg Description:
A fat, squat egg full of wrinkles that immediately drew her attention to it with a dark gray shell.
Measurements: Listed in the wher information.
Mature Length: 3.5M
Mature Height: 1.1M

General Appearance...

Gavisk, or Blue, as Gavita likes to call him, hatched as a tiny wher with a dark hide and very small wings. He was quite happy and eager to eat when he was offered food and he grew to be as big and bulky as a blue could be – though that doesn’t stop Gavita from wrestling or racing him. They’re best of friends and that hasn’t changed a bit in the time he’s grown. From wrestling, racing, exercising, working – it doesn’t matter what it is, Blue is Gavita’s happy, eager shadow.

Personality...

Empathetic: Blue is a very vocal wher. He purrs, grunts, barks, and thrums. He doesn’t impress a lot of emotions on her, but rather, he’s a very physical creature.

Likes:
Rough housing : Wrestling with Gavita is his most favorite thing ever. Racing her in tunnels is the second best.

Mud : He doesn’t like water so much as a good mud bath. Oil is great and all, but he much prefers being out in the rain, finding a nice squishy patch of mud, and flopping in it.

Work : Putting his strength to work and hauling things is great. He wants to do things, feel useful. A working wher is a happy wher.

Dislikes:

Being Dry : He needs a good oiling or mud bath, otherwise he dries out and his skin cracks. Makes him itchy and grumpy.

Red Meat : Much like his bonded, he likes fish over herd beast.

Strengths:

* WELL BEHAVED : Much like many crafter-trained wher, Blue responds very well to commands and can follow complex instruction – for a wher.

* PLAYFUL : Unlike most, he’s not really aggressive. He can be protective, but otherwise he’s quite friendly and easy going around people. Feel free to waltz up and pet him – he’s not inclined to bite.

Weaknesses:

* OBLIVIOUS : Blue doesn’t really pay attention to other people, which makes him a shitter for a guard wher. He’d protect Gavita if someone attacked her, but don’t expect him to protect an area.

* WEAK : Blue is not made for fighting. While he could certainly win in a fight against a person, any other wher his size or bigger is going to easily take him down.

Your Reflection...

Appearance:
J’dan is a stout 5’9”, and while he’ll never be a bulky man, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s weak. With the lithe body of a rider, he’s rather coordinated and quite strong for his size. Given his love for himself, and how much time he spends taking care of himself, J’dan is clean cut and fit. He doesn’t have much by way of extra clothes, preferring his riding leathers – and flaunting the fact he is a rider – but he does have a couple pair of extra cloth pants and a tight shirt or two he doesn’t mind lounging in.

He enjoys both dancing and sparing – both good for the body and it’s fun – and he’s someone who smiles often, but only if the humor isn’t at the expense of himself. He keeps his dirty blonde hair messy, because he thinks it makes him look a bit older, and brings out the blue in his very blue eyes.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: J'dan has been rather lucky in that the majority of his immediate family came out of the pass relatively unscathed. Most familial losses he was too young to really understand and doesn't really remember nowadays anyway. He did, however, join the wings early enough that he lost many friends and compatriots to Thread's onslaught. He deals with this by simply moving on. Life is too short to mourn for long. Sure, he members his friends fondly, but he doesn't dwell on the past.

Response to dragon color mutations: If he were in any other Wing, his thoughts might’ve been swayed a different direction. The strong opinions of Jungle have, however, convinced him that the mutations are more of a liability then a boon. He can see that the blacks seem to be rather unpredictable, and upsetting the redfruit cart of dragon ranks isn't a great idea. All in all, both could end up being more of a liability than a useful asset to the Weyr.[ He certainly doesn't think that one should be leading the Weyr until they've proved themselves.] Given how well Jungle functions, he’s inclined to believe them over anyone else.

Who are you...

Likes:
Family – He’s quite proud to be part of a family that has survived and so, even if there are some differing opinions among them, he will still look out for them. Even if it’s just as an extension of himself. He has a very strong sense of family loyalty.

Exploring – J’dan has an interest in the rest of the world, and would like to see it for himself. Not that he wants to be a part of Mountain Wing, because he thinks they do fuck all, but he has a concern for Pern as a Rider. He wants to reclaim the planet, make it theirs again, and that involves knowing what’s out there and how to fix it. Personally.

Acrobatics – He’s a dancer and he enjoys sparring, regularly. Not just because it keeps him in shape, but because he legitimately enjoys going through the motions of both. It’s fun responding to a partner, be it in song or in a spar circle.

Winning – Should be quite obvious, who doesn’t like winning? But J’dan can’t really turn down a challenge – and once issued, he’s quite determined to win. It’s quite important to him to prove himself to not only himself, but to his Wing.

Dislikes:
Being alone – He’s a social man and finds joy in the company of others. He can be alone, he just doesn’t enjoy it.

Being injured/sick – J’dan is a shit patient. He doesn’t like being told what to do, hates being bedridden, and it can be a chore getting him to follow ‘doctor’s orders’.  He’s still got some growin’ up when it comes to understanding WHY it’s important to listen when one is injured.

People looking down on him – He’s a Bronzer and he fully believes that the world is his. People who think otherwise irk him and he’s quick to try and prove them otherwise. He flew thread, he is in jungle, he deserves the utmost respect.

Strengths:

* COMPETITIVE : J’dan is a naturally competitive person with a drive to always be better than those around him, especially when actually challenged. It’s pushed him to be a competent rider, a decent dancer, and even capable sparring Rider. Especially because he enjoys those challenges, meeting them, and occasionally overcoming them.

* LIGHT-HEARTED : Life should be enjoyed when and where possible. Though the hard times should be given their due respect and mourning, he believes that one shouldn't dwell on them for too long, lest they lose the ability to see the light. By all means, he puts his nose to the grindstone when needed, but to his perception others are so focused on working hard now that they've lost sight of what they're working for.

* RESPECTFUL : He's had it drilled into him by Isotarine his whole life, and it's not something that he intends to forget in a hurry. Even of S'bok. Though the prevailing attitude of his Wing to the Weyrleader has a heavy influence on him, he was taught that people would always be respected until they've given you a reason not to respect them, and S'bok hasn't yet done something heinous enough to be stripped of that, even if he has not done something particularly deserving of greatness either.

* DECISIVE : It doesn't take J'dan long to make his mind up on something and usually, once made, he sticks by it. This has come in handy in the Jungle, where a moment's indecision or hesitation could cost the life of he and his dragon, or even another wing member.

* LOYAL : Once a part of the family, always a part of the family. He cares for them as much as he does himself and will do what he can for them – short of breaking any sort of law. He is very loyal to his Wing, as being accepted into the Weyr's most elite of fighting Wings is something that he is very proud of, and seeks to live up to the high standards and expectations of a Jungle Bronzerider.

Weaknesses:

* ATTENTION SEEKING : J’dan likes attention and will go out of his way to seek it. Sparring, dancing, doing extra work from the wing – whatever it is, he’ll do it to get noticed. From women, from his family, he’s not particularly choosy. That’s one of the reasons he hates being sick or injured – he hates laying around with no one to pay him any mind.

* FORGETFUL : If it’s not about him or his Wingly duties, it’s not important enough to remember.

* TRUSTING : It doesn’t occur to J’dan that those in his wing, or his family, might wrong him. So he accepts what they say without question.

* FOOLHARDY : In the same thread as needing to prove himself equal to others, J'dan can sometimes end up fooling himself into thinking that he's as good as others, even when this isn't necessarily true. He can, and has, overestimated himself which has landed himself in the infirmary.

* MESSY : In the list of things that J’dan does, cleaning up after himself is not one of them. His weyr is messy, clothes tossed about – some not his own – and riding gear tossed in a heap. While the gear itself is well maintained, he doesn’t care to hang it up.

Describe Yourself:

* AMBITIOUS: J’dan’s ambition takes a different flavor. He craves his place in Jungle and seeks to be the best Bronzer he can – and eventually a ranked Rider. He’d like to fly a Gold and so seeks to learn from those that have before him. Soon, he hopes to be a ranked rider but he understands he needs more experience

* SUAVE: J’dan likes to think of himself as a sought after bedpartner – and he can be quite charming and pleasant to look at, so he’s not often without someone to take back to his bedfurs. However, he doesn’t stick to any one person in particular and won’t respond well to clingy people.

* LIGHT-FINGERED: As nimble as he is sparring or dancing, J’dan is as adept at playing card games or getting dice to roll the way he wants. Call him a cheater, he’ll just laugh and say it’s luck. He likes the skill it takes to get things to work out the way he’d like.

* LOUD: J’dan isn’t afraid to be loud to be the center of attention – be it singing terribly, laughing at a joke, or humming to a song someone is playing. He’s not a wallflower and isn’t about to be the sort to hang about on the fringes. J’dan is a very rambunctious and active person.

* 'MOTHER'S BOY': J’dan loves his mother and is quite devoted to his family. He checks in on his mother in particular, probably more than is needed, and goes out of his way to entertain her by tugger her into dances when music isn’t playing, playing card tricks for her, or just chatting her up at all marks of the night.

The Magic Touch: His immune system isn't the best. You can bet your last mark that he gets the winter cold when it comes around the weyr.

Tell us a story...

* 2567, 0 Jurdan is forced out of his mother's belly rather early due to the stresses that seeing her brother mauled to death on the Hatching Sands. Somewhat premature, the baby boy is nonetheless healthy by all appearances.

* 2568, 1 That is until his second year of life, that is, when baby Jurdan goes down with a rather nasty sickness. It's touch and go for several months, Jurdan being very weak and once on the verge of death, but he eventually pulls through.

* 2569, 2 Jurdan's eldest brother Acelin Impresses to a brown named Nevith. Jordan was rather young to quite realise what this meant, but the baby brown dragon was quite funny and Jurdan liked him.

* 2571, 4 Jurdan's immune systems seems to fail him yet again, and he goes down with a fever this year. Though not as life threatening as whatever it was that plagued him as a baby, the toddler is nonetheless left quite weak. Not a few weeks after the fever breaks, High Reaches Weyr falls. His mother feared that he wouldn't survive the trip, but bundled up in her riding jacket and some fuzzy furs (which he rather likes) he survives the trip in once piece.

* 2572, 5 A'lin and Nevith die in Threadfall. Young and still impressionable Jurdan gets it into his head that as the oldest brother left it is his duty to protect his sisters and younger brother, though 2 of them are more than old enough to look after themselves. It takes him a few months to fully understand that A'lin has gone forever, and this realisation makes him very sad.

Prinna, Isotarine's gold firelizard, lays a clutch of eggs (as she frequently does), but one of the eggs is odd looking. It's small and kinda lumpy, and most of the family reckon that it's a dud. Jurdan, however, stubbornly refuses to believe that the egg will do anything other than hatch perfectly fine. In his head, the egg cannot die so soon after his brother died, it just couldn't happen. So the young boy paid special care to the egg that nobody else believed in, making sure that it had enough warm sand even when Prinna pushed it to the side in favour of her more likely looking eggs. And come hatching day, Jurdan's efforts may have been in vain, but the egg hatched. The little blue that emerged however turned out to be as odd looking as his egg, but little Jurdan didn't care. Thrusting a meat roll at the blue, which it gratefully chowed down on, Jurdan Impressed his first firelizard. Initially he wanted to call it Eggsie, since he'd been calling it Egg for so long, but everyone else took to calling it Buzz, due to it's haphazard method of flying, and the newer name eventually stuck.

*2572-2577, 5-10 Young Jurdan does his best to stand up for his sister Tallorine when she disagrees with other children, as a brother should, despite them not taking him seriously for being smaller than most other boys his age. It often results him getting pushed onto his ass and losing many scuffles over the next few turns but, though angry for his current inability to win, he's glad that he was able to direct the attention away from his siblings. When Tallorine leaves the creche to join the dragon candidates, Jurdan is very put out that he is not yet old enough to follow her.

* 2578, 11 Tallorine Impresses green Tulvieth. Old enough to understand Impression this time around, and having gotten over her leaving him to become a candidate, he is over the moon for her. It only strengthens his determination to become a rider himself, when he is finally old enough.

* 2579-2582, 12-15 Jurdan joins the ranks of candidates, filled with excitement only partially tempered by the boring lessons on the ins and outs of dragons that he knew already. Come his first clutch, he was sure that he would Impress right away so that he could join Tallorine in the weyrling classes, but first one hatching left him standing, and then another. And another. Another, and so many more over the next few years that Jurdan began to despair that he would never Impress at all. His eldest sister Albree had aged out, after all, it stood to reason that he might too. It became a very real fear for the young teen, especially when several of the other candidates teased him that no dragon would want such a small rider. Initially he told himself that this was just a test, that if he kept on standing something great would come and he'd Impress a bronze, a better dragon than any of those boys could, they'd see.

At 15, he receives a gift of a firelizard egg to try and cheer him up, after a particularly pessimistic streak of failed standings. He's told that it was the largest egg in the clutch, a fact that is confirmed when it hatches out a bronze. A bronze which turns out to be a rather demanding and stroppy creature which takes an instant dislike to poor little Buzz. Jurdan names him Thunder, after the storm the little bronze causes when he desires attention. Finding himself rather attached to both, J'dan found a new occupation in life then: keeping both lizards happy became an almost full time job.

* 2583, 16 Jurdan finally Impresses, to a bronze named Brynioth. J'dan is over the moons with this, not just that he finally Impressed, but to a bronze at that. That'd show all those candidate kids that said he'd never Impress, who all got blues to a man. Not that J'dan thinks the other colours are lesser beings, of course, but there's still that element of specialness to being chosen by one of the kings of the Weyr.

* 2583-2585, 16-18 Weyrling training is a somewhat rocky road in the beginning. Although Brynioth started out the same size as most bronzes, it quickly becomes apparent that the young dragon isn't gaining weight anywhere as near as fast as his brethren, and by the end of his first month he looks somewhat like a starved brown. Worried that his dragonet will suffer the same teasing that he himself did in his youth, J'dan goes against the strict advise of the Weyrlingmaster and overfeeds Brynioth in an attempt to get him to gain weight. This plan is foiled when the poor bronze throws up mid-class, and J'dan is given a stern talking to and punishment for being so careless. Brynioth is also told not to listen to J'dan about being too small, and that no amount of extra feeding will make him bigger than he is destined to become. In other words, the two should stop complaining and accept their differences. After a week of moping, the pair both eventually agreed that it was probably a bad idea, but not to be defeated by this, make a pact between them to make the most of their predicament and become the best sharding bronze pair acrobats that Pern has ever seen (except of course the first bronzes, of course, who by all accounts were tiny).

* 2585-2587, 18-20 Graduating Weyrling training and joining a Fighting Wing threw J'dan and Brynioth in at the deep end. The pair had been more than aware of the situation that the extended threadfall had put the riders in, having lived in a Weyr their whole lives it was hard to ignore the rate at which riders and dragons were dying. But seeing those whom he had come to consider Wingmates and friends killed off at a hideous rate really brought it home to the two usually carefree ex-Weyrlings. The almost constant fight for the survival of not only themselves, but their Wing and Weyr and really everything that was left of Pern (which by that point wasn't much) forced the pair into taking life a little more serious view on life.

* 2587, 20 One day, when J'dan and his Wing are all geared up and fly out to meet the days onslaught of Thread, they arrive at their destination and... the Thread never comes. Dumbfounded, the Wingleader bespeaks another Wing, who left earlier to catch Thread at another location, and the report is as intriguing; Thread just stopped falling. Puzzled, though somewhat glad for the unexpected rest, they returned to the Weyr with the news. Though the dragonriders remained vigilant for a while after this, it son became apparent that Thread was no longer a Threat. J'dan could have died from relief, but he didn't, because there was no fun in that. Instead, he decided that the best use of his time was to join the celebrations as get himself as paralytically drunk as possible.

Later that year, J'dan and Brynioth pack up with the rest of the Weyr and move camp to the newly discovered Fort Island. In the resulting wing reshuffle, the pair see their hard work and determination to excel recognised, not in a leadership position, which they both know they're too young for and do not want anyway, but in being chosen for the Weyr's most elite fighting Wing: Jungle. Greatness thus affirmed, the two do not wallow in victory, but aspire to new heights, still seeking to better themselves and their Wing, not to sinking below Jungle's high standards. It's a matter of pride that they end up being the first line of defence against the new enemy, and provisioner of the only source of meat to the Weyr.

---It was getting late, pushing the time when J’dan would normally be asleep. He wasn’t now just because the threat of the storm. Between Thunder and Buzz, neither were allowing him proper rest. Thunder was wide awake, trilling with excitement while Buzz was quite the opposite – wanting nothing to do with it.

“Just heat lightning,” J’dan murmured, feet dangling off of his ledge as he watched. Not a true storm, mind. Just a reaction to the warmth that had settled over the island. He thought it was quite pretty. Shirtless, leaning back on his hands, he opted to enjoy the show before heading to bed himself. As a jungler, he’d have an early morning.

A Green rises, the Bronze remarked, shifting to stand as the call went out. Pulling to him.

J’dan made a face. This late? That was going to severely cut into his sleep…

It’d be nice to fly in the night sky, his dragon remarked, glancing down at him. Thunder trilled his agreement.

“Bah. Fine. But if either of us are tired tomorrow, I’ll have no one to blame but you,” he said even as he rolled to his feet. Buzz was quite unhappy as he was displaced and trilled as much, flapping haphazardly over to the bedfurs to hide from the heat lightening. J’dan climbed up on his dragon so he could be dropped off. Getting dressed at this point was moot, he could be dropped off in just his pants.

Brynioth thrummed his pleasure that they’d get to participate and landed near the ground weyr, just touching down long enough J’dan could slide off, before he was quickly air born. Quick and graceful for his color, he crooned to the green, Fly fast for me, pretty lady,

J’dan stretched and rolled his shoulders as he sauntered into the weyrling’s weyr, letting the thrill of it all start to burn through his veins. He supposed a fun romp would be a good way to end the day.
