Cetorex might have no particular love lost for the Weyr and its different way of life, but this night was about celebration, not rehashing old grievances. Some of that would surely come to light as the alcohol flowed and inhibitions loosened, but the evening was still young. He’d been about to gently steer the conversation elsewhere when Kyohei simply waved one hand in a vague gesture and seemed content to leave it off for the moment.

But he couldn’t quite conceal his frown at the follow up—though it was chased immediately afterward by a half-amused smile. Maybe the man was just a little rough around the edges. But he had to know that he was talking to one of the Hall’s few Journeymen, if he knew the rank knots on Cet’s shoulder, and yet here he was treating him like a green apprentice. As though he needed anyone’s reminder that he should go greet the Lady Holder herself when she made an appearance at their gathering.

“Of course,” he simply said, tone mild, and moved off toward Lhamoire. Whether Kyohei made good on his word to accompany him was the other man’s affair. But Cet fully intended to greet the Lady Holder properly.

Approaching at a respectful distance, he bowed to Lhamoire with a smile. When there was an appropriate pause in her words with those others that had gathered to greet her, he said, “Good evening, Lady Holder. I’m thrilled you decided to join us.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Kyohei.” Cetorex had seen the whers enter with the man, but didn’t say as much; it seemed petty to tell him such when the man seemed to be making an honest effort to be polite. Cet had no idea if this sort of thing was his scene, per se, but at least he was conducting himself courteously. That was all he could ask from anyone at such an event.

Smiling graciously, he inclined his head and added an easy, “Thank you,” at the praise. The affair wasn’t only his doing, but it had been a concerted effort between all of the Hall’s few Journeymen and the apprentices as well. This was a night to celebrate all of their accomplishments. “It was very kind of them, yes. The Miners are good people, to make all of this space for everyone, Crafter and Holder alike.”

And rather than simply parroting a gracious opinion, it was something he whole-heartedly believed. The collaboration and sense of camaraderie that existed between the Crafts and the Holdfolk was one that made Cet proud. Dragon riders might have preserved them from Thread, but the other groups in their society were just as important for preserving the Pernese way of life.

“Oh, a fair few,” he admitted in response to the Peacekeeper’s question. “But they’re all respectable Holders and Craftfolk. There should be no trouble here tonight.” Anyone that caused any would have more than just a few scattered Peacekeepers to contend with. No one that had worked for this would want to allow the celebration to be overshadowed by drama or anything uncouth.

Through his work and the connections of the Brewer Hall, Cetorex knew a fairly large amount of people in the Crafter and Holder lifestyle, but he couldn’t know everyone. So though he didn’t recognize the man that had approached him, he still smiled broadly and clasped his hand strongly to shake it. Everyone was there for a good time, after all. There was no reason to be impolite or brusque on such an occasion—and Cet usually wasn’t anyway.

He did briefly look the man up and down following his comments, though. The man spoke like a Peacekeeper, but he wasn’t dressed in their usual wherhide uniforms. Judging by the well-behaved nature of his whers that seemed to have taken up stations by the entrance, that was what Cet guessed his profession must be. But even with all his pleasantness, he was still a little wary.

“Well met,” he echoed, smile still in place. “I’m Cetorex. I’m afraid we haven’t met. Are you a Keeper?” An invitation for the man to supply his name, as well as answer the Brewer’s inquiry. He had no intention of allowing his Hall to end up embroiled in any kind of underhanded dealings that might see fit to try to rear their heads at the Mine Hall as they had done at Fort during the Pass—up to and including any form of protection racket, when there were perfectly respectable Peacekeepers to do that job.

If the man was what he seemed to be, then all was well. But Cet had not grown up in Fort and lived to his current age by being a fool.

There was still a bit of summer left lingering over the island, which made Cet all the more thankful for just how cool the interior of the Mine Hall was. Deep enough in the stone that the absorbed heat of the day didn’t penetrate, it was a welcome relief from the more open and sweltering atmosphere of the Weyr. With only one opening to the outside world, this space was much easier to keep cool than the former.

But that was hardly the only reason he was appreciative of the Mine Hall. Despite its dangers, it felt more like home—a more familiar sort of place in comparison to the one where he and his family had been living for the last four turns. While Cetorex didn’t dislike riders per se, it was far more comfortable to be surrounded by like-minded people, away from situations that made tempers flare and relationships strained. Not to mention there was a fair bit of pride in the fact that Holders and Crafters could rebuild too, even without the express and constant help of dragon riders.

When other Brewers and Vinters had first started to toss around the idea of formally moving to the Hall, Cetorex had been all for it. The move would save him the daily trips to and from, which would mean more time around his family too. And it felt right in a way, since it meant less non-Crafter oversight to their activities. And that was saying nothing of the fertile land that had been cleared outside the Hall, some of which they would be allowed to claim for their own crops.

It would be good to really grow things again, rather than having to jockey for space with the Farmers and Herders. Not that Cetorex had ever held them any ill will.

Having an official event to celebrate was even more exciting, though. Their cavern had been cleaned and prepped for the guests that were already flooding in, everything as gleaming and polished as his Craft could get it. They might not have a large store of alcohol—yet—but they would be generous with what they did have. An excuse to mingle with other respectable Holders in a social capacity would be welcome too.

They so infrequently had things to celebrate. Cetorex appreciated it even more when the opportunity did arise.

Spoiler for OOC:
Who doesn’t like a good party? Especially when it means alcohol is going to be available in more abundance in the future? :3 Just bear in mind this is meant to be a classy affair, so anyone who crashes it or causes a ruckus will get kicked out. As always, you can check into the OOC event thread here.

Also, SanctifiedSavage was awesome and updated the map of Mine Hall to include the Brewers' new area. :3

10. Brewer Cavern
This cavern has been recently carved out for the Brewers to set up their own, small Craft Hall. The brewers decided to set up in the Mine Hall to be closer to the jungle, despite how dangerous it is, and so they might start growing their own small crops outside the giant metal doors of the Mine Hall.
