Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

These Tiny Lives [1.9.2589 8PM] Imyth's Clutching
« on: June 14, 2014, 02:48:21 PM »

Imyth had been restless all day. The gold couldn't sit still for more than 10 minutes at a time, alternating between pacing the Weyr Bowl and collapsing in various places for a short rest before getting up and going again, occasionally nuzzling Thianorth for comfort. She had been visibly unsettled ever since the hunter attack, a week before, though she'd done what she could to help in her egg heavy state.

To those that knew Imyth well it would be obvious why she wouldn't settle at all that day. Any suspicions would be confirmed in the evening when she finally winged over to the Hatching Sands, hissing irritably at any who would try to follow her and chasing out anyone that wasn't Oriath or her mate, firmly establishing one half of the cavern as 'hers.' She would rather have chased out Oriath too, but she knew that that was not likely to happen. The two of them had been sharing hatching caverns for turns now, out of necessity and the close timing of their yearly Flights.

Eimerra had long side given up on getting anything useful done with her dragons uneasiness leaking over into her own mind, distracting her from anything but pacing. She had been sitting in the dining hall when she sensed the change of mood in her dragon, suddenly standing and levying her half eaten plate on the table, rushing down to the sands to see to her dragon. She arrived, out of breath, to see the gold still pacing around 'her' half of the sand.

My Dear, whatever's the matter? The eggs are coming, are they not?

The are, the gold admitted, though Eimerra could not miss the worried edge to her tone.

What's wrong? The Jr Weyrwoman pressed her again, stepping around the edge of the hot sand along the walkway towards the pacing dragon. Imyth stopped, turning her yellow whirling eyes towards her rider, before taking two steps closer to touch her nose to Eimerra's chest, eyes closing. They'll be in danger Merra. What if the Hunters attack the Weyr next? They're vulnerable on the sand.

Oh my dear, is that what you've been worrying about all day? Eimerra replied, stroking her gold's nose as she rumbled the affirmative. You know you have to lay them, my dear, and there are lots of dragons here to protect them for you. And they'll have to get past you first, I'm sure you won't let that happen? No, she said firmly, snarling quietly at the thought. She'd die protecting her clutch before she let the hunters at them. But she still thought they'd be safer if they stayed inside her. You have to give them a chance at life, my love. They have to hatch and find their riders and grow to become strong young dragons. Would you take away their chance at finding their life partner?

Imyth sighed deeply, turning away. She did not reply, but Eimerra knew the answer already.

The first one is coming.

Merra... Merra, the gold spoke into her mind, the Jr Weyrwoman waking slowly. She blinked, shifting her position uncomfortably. She must have dozed off. Yes?

I think that is all of them.

Standing, Eimerra made her way quickly across the sand to her dragon, hopping up onto Imyth's forearm so that her feet didn't burn through the thin soles of her shoes. Imyth lifted her head to bring Eimerra into the protective circle of her body around the clutch. Oh Imyth, they're beautiful, she breathed, finally seeing the eggs. She counted 13 settled in a cluster, a few of the mottled shells gleaming wetly still in the glow light.

I know, she said proudly. Thianorth, she reached out to her mate, whom she'd not allowed in while she was laying, come see your babies. And your rider too, she added. She wanted her mate to be the first to see them. It was only right.

When the bronze arrived she reached out to touch his nose with her own, crooning a greeting. Aren't they beautiful?

Spoiler for Hidden:
Imyth has clutched, yay! The OOC thread is here. They asked me to post this for Saturday so I'll throw it up now as it's getting late. tag for @Hart @D'mir .

We ask that all ranked Riders respond with at least cursory congratulations and speculation on the new clutch. Though considering Imyth and Thianorth's clutch last year was normal (if a little green dominated) I don't think there will be much on the speculation side.

Oriath was not pleased to have another Gold on her Hatching Sands. Though the overlap shouldn’t be for long, the Gold rumbled her discontentment and circled her own clutch. Orange eyes watched Imyth though there was still quite a bit of space between them. Unlike Kalestath, who reigned over the whole of the hatching Sands, Oriath was used to claiming her own space and leaving some for the other Queen. Broody Golds could be reasoned with. So long as they didn’t have their Mating Flight at the same time, Oriath could forgive Imyth’s invasion of her space.

It was also not lost on the broody Gold that there was another Queen near by. So no matter how territorial she might be with Imyth, any act of aggression on her part would make her vastly outnumbered. So instead of lashing out, the Gold curled around her clutch protectively and resolved to ignore the other for the time being.

Vanelwynne was in no better shape than her dragon. Six months pregnant had turned her into a moody woman who had, for the most part, sequestered herself to the hatching sands weyr. Luckily there were two, long ago having been made for just this occurrence. When Imyth invaded the Hatching Sands, Vanelwynne hissed her irritation and rolled off of her bedfurs. A robe was tugged on before she walked out, slipping on the leather soled sandles on the way out. To protect her annoyingly swollen feet as she made her way toward her broody Oriath. //She’ll calm down soon enough// Vanelwynne tried to reassure her Gold, glancing toward the other Queen. It was moments later that the other Weyrwoman entered to tend Imyth.

Good.

Oriath shifted just enough that Vanelwynne could comfortably sit on her foreleg, near cradling the pregnant woman. It was there that Vanelwynne intended on remaining, so she could warn whomever was stupid enough to stray too close away from her annoyed Queen.

The closer Imyth had gotten to the day of her clutching, the closer Thianorth seemed to stay to his mate. D'mir had teased him gently, and without an ounce of seriousness, about being like a protective mother wherry, hovering around her and generally refusing to go anywhere that wasn't within eye shot. Thianorth only hummed his agreement and generally ignored his rider, much to D'mir's amusement.

So when the bronze nudged his mind late one evening, D'mir wasn't surprised by his comment. Imyth clutches.
//I'll be there.// The rider slid into his boots and jogged over to the edge of his weyr, climbing up Thianorth's back just in time for the bronze to glide down to a ledge near the hatching sands but not on, as the Gold would allow no one other than her rider near until she was done. D'mir settled in against his dragon's shoulders to wait it out with him.

It was some time before Imyth finally called Thianorth and D'mir to the sands, but the pair went both quickly and happily at her call, the bronze gliding the rest of the way to the ground to slide in beside his mate. A deep, pleased rumble filled the air, something like a contented purr that was filled with pride and awe. They are perfect. He agreed readily.

D'mir stayed back a few paces, careful despite the Gold's allowance of Thianorth's presence. He was looking over the clutch with the same awe and happiness as his bronze. Dark eyes turned up towards Eimerra who was perched on Imyth's arm and his lips pulled up in a wide grin.

Kalestath interrupted Halirina’s meal when Eimerra ran from the dining hall. The Weyrwoman knew better than to chase after her, so long as Kalestath’s news wasn’t dire. The Queen had been as attentive to Imyth as she was usually over her own clutch. Halirina tried to shrug it off, but she knew why. Kalestath intended to be there in the event the other two Golds forgot how to share space. So when Imyth winged over to the hatching sands, Kalestath’s shadow tailed her.

The senior Queen knew better than to enter the hatching sands and encroach on the others territory. But she settled just outside of it, just in case. The last thing either Halirina or Kalestath wanted was two Golds to fight. Kalestath would be the only one who could try and stop them. It but both Weyrwoman and her dragon ill at ease every time Imyth and Oriath’s cycles came so close.

One of these turns…

It was a very real fear for the pair who had witnessed the tragic loss in 2581. With six Queens rising at once, Halirina and Kalestath had been nigh helpless as the mating flight turned into a fight that ended the lives of all the Golds involved. It was a very real fear for them that Imyth and Oriath might fight.

Thankfully, it was unrealized. Halirina forced herself to continue her meal, though her vision swam with images from Kalestath. The Gold and rider were carefully in sync. Just in case.

It was some time later when Kalestath called to Neisoth. Come join me… she cooed affectionately to the Black. Clutches tended to make her remember her own, and so she desired the particular affection of the one who had flown her. She likewise let Halirina know D’mir and Thianorth had arrived, and thus it would be safe for her to come check on the clutch.

Halirina left her office at an easy pace. Not rushed. If someone showed up before her, that would be fine. But it was required of her to show. No matter her lazy pace, she arrived shortly after D’mir had. She entered the hatching sands, shooting a glance toward Oriath and Vanelwynne. Neither seemed thrilled for company so Halirina didn’t even try to greet them. Instead, she came to stand next to D’mir and offered her own small nod of recognition for Eimerra before she surveyed the clutch.

Halirina could feel Kalestath’s pride swell as the Gold cooed to Neisoth. Not as big as our clutch. Halirina resisted her snort of amusement. Kalestath always had larger clutches. Pointing it out seemed unnecessary. But Halirina didn’t ruin her Queen’s good mood. “It’s a wonderful clutch, Eimerra,” she finally said, attention wandering between the eggs.

If there could be anything good to say about the Hunter attack—and perhaps this was really stretching it—it was that they would be around to see Imyth's clutch before most of the masses. Granted, it was late enough that Beach would have returned from the construction site by now, but without the post-guard duties of bathing and oiling and checking everyone, Iradin and Leoth could go to the Hatching Grounds as soon as they received the news.

"Kall, go back to our weyr," Iradin ordered, scarfing down the rest of her meal. The brown flit grumbled, but he understood. After what had happened with Kalestath and that one candidate's flit, Ira kept her boy far from the queens. Kall left in a small puff of cold air.

As soon as her plate was clean, Iradin handed it off to a drudge and exited the Hall. Leoth was waiting, thrumming with excitement. Thianorth and His are there already, he informed her, taking off and flying above her as she walked to the Hatching Cavern.

Of course, Iradin thought with a smile. Thianorth was utterly smitten with Imyth. He had probably been lurking around during the whole laying.

"Good evening, Kalestath," the wingsecond greeted the senior queen, inclining her head as she passed her on her way into the Sands. Leoth rumbled his greeting to all three golds and Thianorth, landing on a high ledge that afforded him a nice view without being too intrusive.

Iradin grinned broadly at the sight of the clutch. Thirteen beautiful eggs. Not the biggest clutch, but big enough. Sneaking up behind her brother, she clapped D'mir on the shoulder. "Congratulations, you four. They are truly splendid, Imyth, Thianorth."

Her eyes ran over each egg. No sparkling gold, though that one orangey egg... No, it was orange, not gold. Probably held a green or blue.

Eve! My Eve! Imyth clutched! I—

Want to see the eggs? Evesa finished for her. It was not difficult to guess. Out loud, to the miner whose damaged arm she was currently redressing and bandaging, she said, "How's that feel? Too tight? Does it hurt?"

"My arm is burning," the man grunted, his face screwed up in pain. Evesa grinned, patting his good shoulder.

"Good. That means your nerves are still working. Let's put some numbweed on that." She did not see the man's incredulous stare as she turned her back to get a jar. When she returned to his side, she was back to her normal serious face. "Hold still now."

Only when she was finished with the man did she answer Seriath. The green waited patiently—as patiently as she could. She understood that the patients were important to her rider. Wiping her hands on her towel, Evesa said, You know what I am going to say. I would feel more comfortable if you stayed in the weyr. Your stitches might pull when you take off and land...

Seriath grumbled, but did not disagree. She knew Evesa knew more than she did about injuries. However... Go see them for me. Please?

Evesa suppressed a groan. She had hoped to finish the day in the healer hall, fetch a late dinner, and maybe find Ithiskarien. A nice, relaxing night and maybe even sleep. Visiting the eggs would certainly put a wedge in those plans.

Ask Isken to come with. Seriath's tone was plaintive. How could Evesa deny her? Such a simple request that would make the green so happy...

No. I won't bother her, and neither will you. I'll head over now. Looking around, Evesa found Evlyn and, kissing her mother's cheek, departed. At least most of the patients had been tended to, so she would not feel guilty about leaving.

The Sands were hot, and she was glad her boots, while worn, were thick-soled. After greeting Kalestath and Oriath, she approached Imyth and her clutch, stopping a respectful distance away. Making sure she got a good view of the eggs for Seriath. "Congratulations. They are lovely eggs," she said to the clutchparents with a smile.

They're so pretty, Eve! I hope there are lots of greens!

Free time had literally just started when the news reached the weyrling barracks. Rakanth uncoiled from his position in the center of a comfortable rug. He stared at his rider, who was stretched out on a couch with his arm over his eyes. Not sleeping, but daydreaming enough to doze. That just would not do.

F'lan, Mine. Up! We must go congratulate the queen and her mate.

"Ungghhnowano," F'lan mumbled unintelligibly. Rakanth snorted sharply and marched up to the couch. He crouched, then jumped up, landing on top of his rider. F'lan let out a started oof as the breath flew from his lungs. His eyes shot open, and his flailing arms grabbed at Rakanth. "Huh? What's happening?"

Eggs. Congratulations. Now. Hipping to the ground, Rakanth skittered out of the weyrling barracks, leaving F'lan no choice but to follow. The disoriented, sleepy weyrling trundled after his brown, trying to make himself look more presentable by straightening his clothes and smoothing his hair.

Hello, Kalestath. Hello, Oriath, Rakanth crooned politely to each gold as they passed her. He had his little self puffed up and held tall, neck arched proudly. Making a good impression on the queens, especially with his own great dam outside the Hatching Grounds, was vital.

Imyth, Thianorth, felicitations. My F'lan and I congratulate you for your wonderful clutch. Rakanth bowed his head low, gazing intently at the eggs. F'lan, still not fully awake and unsure if he should be there, smiled awkwardly and mumbled a congratulations.
As of 2.2590, Rakanth is 6 months old & 13.2 m. long.

She'd heard the rumor fast spreading through the Weyr as all rumors seemed to spread quicker than wildfire, that Imyth had clutched. With two clutches now on the Sands it was sure to be interesting. Ithiskarien had to admit, since she wasn't really doing anything that evening it would be nice to go and  be in the Hatching Cavern, at least for a little while. Candidates generally had time to see the eggs later but she liked going when the riders went to congratulate the Gold, her rider and their mates.

To her, there was a different feel to the Cavern when it was the riders and not the Candidates who were there. No apprehension or anxiety. No one thought about what dragonet should be theirs. The cavern was filled with people who were hopeful for the future of dragons, the future of the Weyrs. A simple joy was spread over the Sands at times like this.

Ihiskarien, stayed near the back of the stands, hoping no one would pay much attention to her being there. It was harder to see the eggs from where she stood but she could still see them and count them. All she wanted to do was be there to look for a few moments and then be on her way. She found herself wondering at the two Golds, who were graciously sharing the Sands. The Hatching Cavern felt like it usually did, which pleased her as she stood there in the background. Riders were coming in a few here and few there. It was nice to imagine what dragonets would come from the eggs, though sometimes it was harder. It was harder now than it had been before, to dream.

She wouldn't be Standing for many more clutches, she thought wistfully though she could count herself lucky that she had never been injured, not even minor scratches. Now that she had had her moment, she moved back toward the exit, she did not want to intrude really, she just loved the experience of seeing the newly clutched on the Sands. Ithis walked away, feeling lighthearted and hopeful for the future which was just how she wanted to feel.

Imyth purred happily with Thianorth, pleased that he liked them. Not that she thought for a moment that he wouldn't - he'd been happy with their previous clutch too, as had she. She reached her nose into the clutch and gently nudged the orange one (3) towards him, careful not to disturb the pale yellowy-green one that was nestled with it. This one looks like you. The shell was almost an exact match to its father's colour. Do you think it will be a bronze too? There hadn't been a bronze in their previous clutch; Imyth would rather like there to be one this time, to make his father proud.

Eimerra hopped off of Imyth's leg when she spotted her weyrmate. "D'mir!" she called happily, jogging over the hot sand to greet him. Her grin was as wide as his own. "Don't be so scared, she won't hurt you," she chastised him as he stopped a way back, meaning that she had to hobble over more of the hot sand to get to him before she threw her arms around him. Quickly she released him and proceeded to tug him by the hand toward the clutch. "Come look properly, they're your babies as much as mine. Look, there's one that looks like its daddy!" she babbled, excitedly pointing toward the orangeish egg in the middle that Imyth was showing off.

Her slight giddiness was cut short by the sudden appearance of the Weyrwoman. Eimerra flushed a little more than was due to the heat, realising that she'd been caught in a childish moment, before thinking oh between with it, and holding her chin a tad higher. So what if she'd been caught in a childish moment, it was not as if there was anyone besides ranking riders there to see her. She came to stand annoyingly close to D'mir. Reluctantly she let go his hand, but stayed close by, a slight possessive spark lighting.

"Thank you, Weyrwoman Halirina," she said curtly, though Halirina seemed to be paying more attention to the eggs than to her.

Imyth did not pay much attention to the arrival or Halirina, but the brown winging his way into the cavern had her rumbling a greeting in return. She didn't particularly want Leoth coming too close, but she didn't mind him being up on the ledges. How is your Wing doing? she inquired politely, but not without curiosity. She really hoped that they were all doing as well as could be hoped. That thought reminded her again of the dangers to her eggs, and she curled around them tighter. You will stay, won't you Thianorth? Help protect them? she asked hopefully, not that she doubted he would. He'd been her faithful shadow for as long as she could remember now.

Other figures soon began to arrive. Eimerra sighed and stepped away from D'mir to give the two siblings space (and to avoid being inadvertently whacked by the hand that clapped him on the shoulder), though she gave Iradin a warm smile nonetheless. "Thank you, Iradin." Spotting another member of Beach Wing arriving behind her Wingsecond, Eimerra decided to give the two a little space and stepped over to join Evesa.

Imyth's eyes followed her. Who is that? she asked, not immediately able to place the woman's face.

Evesa, Seriath's rider, Eimerra supplied, smiling at the greenrider in question as she stopped a pace away. "Thank you," she said, noting the absence of her green. "How fares dear Seriath?" she inquired, concerned. She remembered that her green was not among those whose life was hanging in the balance, but still injured in the attack all the same.

Oh! Imyth exclaimed in her mind, recognising the green's name. She liked Seriath. Reaching out to her, she asked How are you Seriath? You shall have to come see them when you're feeling better, she said, flicking Seriath an image of the eggs from her own perspective, knowing that the green would probably appreciate it.

The gold was not expecting the appearance of the brown Weyrling so close to her, snorting in alarm. Her head spun around to eye him warily. The humans she could tolerate near her eggs, she could sweep them all away with a flick of her tail if needs be, but the growing dragonet was somewhat more of a threat. They could be... unpredictable. And clumsy still.

"Uh oh," Eimerra muttered, cutting off whatever Evesa may have said and hurrying over to the sleepy looking Weyrling. "Uh, you may want to keep your dragon back from her a little. She's feeling rather overprotective at the moment," she explained hurriedly, taking F'lan's arm and encouraging him back a little, hoping that his brown would follow.

Thank you, but move away, the gold rumbled, huffing at Rakanth in warning.

Eyes fixed on the eggs, trying to give Seriath the best images, Evesa was quite surprised when Eimerra approached her. She had hardly expected that, nor had she expected for the Junior Weyrwoman to ask about Seriath. "She is well, thank you. We were very lucky," she replied politely, not giving too much information, just enough. Killing the mood with injury talk would just be wrong right now.

I'll come as soon as Mine lets me fly! Seriath promised, her mind-voice bubbling with pure glee and gratitude. She was not surprised that Imyth talked to her; why wouldn't she? She was a nice gold. But the close-up pictures of the eggs... They were so much better than the ones her rider had sent her. They are so beautiful! Is Thia proud? I bet he is.

"Imyth just made Seriath's—" Evesa broke off, following Eimerra's gaze to the brown weyrling pair. Uh oh indeed. She winced, praying that Imyth would be forgiving. Maybe it was time to go—she turned, catching sight of a familiar blonde head.

Definitely time to leave. Seriath had gotten what she had wanted. The green was laughing at her. Evesa hardly cared, trotting over to the candidate. No one would notice. The eggs had everyone's attention. "Not even going to say hello?" she teased with a ghost of a smile. "Did you get to see them? The eggs?" Your possible future?

Re: These Tiny Lives [1.9.2589 8PM] Imyth's Clutching

F'lan was too sleepy to really notice Imyth's initial reaction to their presence. He was just staring at the eggs with heavy-lidded eyes. They were pretty. Who would they Impress? Sauri, maybe? Kayden? That would be wonderful. He smiled, imagining a little green hatchling wandering out of the Sands or into the Stands to Impress his friend—

And someone was grabbing his arm. F'lan looked up, blinking owlishly at Eimerra. What was she saying? "Huh?" he asked, so intelligently. Then it all came at him at once, and his eyes widened. "Shells! Sorry, ma'am. Rak, c'mon." He backpedaled quickly, almost tripping, staring warily at the gold.

Rakanth was confused and a little hurt, but he obeyed the gold at once, turning and slinking after his rider. His body burned with embarrassment, and he curled around F'lan's legs, peering at Imyth with gray-orange eyes. I'm sorry, he said in a small voice. I did not mean to upset you. I wasn't going to hurt them.
As of 2.2590, Rakanth is 6 months old & 13.2 m. long.

L’ale had idly made notice of when Eimerra had run from the dining hall. He wasn’t stupid, he figured that meant the Gold was finally going to clutch. He and Illoth spared a moment of quiet agreement that must be what that meant before turning back to their meal. He had Callista on his lap, a hand settled inappropriately high along her inner thigh in a possessive display. Until she was pregnant with one of his, or L’nal’s babies, she wasn’t going anywhere nor bedding anyone.

Besides, she was quite the ornament on his lap. He rather liked her there. L’ale shared a look with his twin before passing a thought along through Illoth. //Imyth must be clutching. We’ll have to go say congratulations. Care to bet on the number of eggs?// Illoth rumbled his amusement from his ledge, curled around Ariyath. She was trapped between him and his brother Bronze and would be going nowhere for the duration of the evening.

As L’ale leaned back to take a drink, his hand played up Callista’s side before he said aloud, “We should bathe before Imyth’s done. We’ll be expected to go say ‘hi’.” That was aloud for Callista’s benefit so she would know their intention. L’ale kissed the curve of her neck before murmuring, “Take my brother’s and my plate to the kitchens, then we’ll all head down to the bathing springs.” He was willing to bet both he and his brother could have their way with Callista before Imyth was done.

And he’d been right. L’ale, L’nal, and Callista were appropriately sated and cleaned by the time Illoth lazily remarked the eggs were done. So L’ale hauled Callista out of the water, momentarily distracted by her naked body though he was quite thoroughly spent, before finally dressing.

As they made their way from the bathing springs, L’ale seriously considered taking her with them. In the end, he shared a ‘might as well’ look with his twin and kept a firm grip on the back of Callista’s neck, effectively steering her toward the hatching sands. “A perk of being with us,” he teased her as they made their way toward the Sands.

The walk was quiet, companionable before they arrived. Not first, but not last, and he wouldn’t have cared anyway. This type of formality was generally one L’ale wasn’t too quick to jump to. He ignored Vanelwynne and Imyth, though they seemed to prefer such a reaction, and instead released Callista so it wouldn’t seem so possessive around Riders his rank or above.

L’ale and L’nal both bowed at the same time to offer their congratulations, and even said as much together. “A fine clutch, Eimerra.” L’ale said it with all the respect due her station of a Gold Rider, though he had little interest.

Why hadn't she been expecting to hear the familiar voice of Evesa? Obviously this was when the riders came to congratulate the Golds and their mates, so it should have made sense to her that the greenrider would be here. However, since she hadn't seen her or been looking for her, she was actually a little surprised to hear her voice then. "Oh! Hello Evesa." She grinned, "I would have but I didn't see you till now."

She was glad that Evesa had come up to her. Ithiskarien would have felt awkward if it were the other way around. She wasn't technically supposed to be there but it wasn't against the rules either.  "I don't tend to look at the riders when they are congratulating the Goldriders. I try not to disrupt anything where riders are concerned. This is not exactly the time Candidates are supposed to view the eggs." Ithiskarien was sure there were people other than herself who viewed the eggs early.

"Yes, I was pretty high up in the Stands but I could see them." She had seen them and admired them all from afar, "They are beautiful, aren't they?" There was a wistfulness in her tone. "I love the feeling that surrounds a new clutch of eggs.  The Candidates are going to ruin it." Even herself because she too had something to gain from making an impression on one of the unhatched dragons.

With a more concerned look, "How is Seriath today?"

Callista had been blissfully unaware of Eimerra’s sudden departure from the hall as she sat comfortably on L’ale’s lap. Her world had narrowed to just the twins and the food on the table and nothing else could break her away from this wonderful reverie. She fully enjoyed the extra attentions she was receiving from the twins since telling them how much she wanted to have their children. If this was what it would be like, she would be willing to continue becoming pregnant again and again once the next babe was born.

And she hopefully had some good news to share with them shortly.

Callista smiled to herself and continued with her meal. Ariyath was just as pleased being tightly surrounded by the two large bronzes. The green rider shivered with delight as L’ale’s hand grazed up her side. Her eyes were instantly on his with her own insatiable appetite for the two brothers. L’ale’s comment on Imyth threw her off, but she quickly deduced that the gold must be clutching. What else would she be doing when they all knew this was coming? Which meant she was likely to separate from them while they paid their respects.

Typically it was the ranked riders who arrived first to give their congratulations, although Callista had done so once before. But that was because Ariyath had rushed her out of bed and she hadn’t realized how early she’d come.

Callista softly gasped at L’ale’s attention to her neck, her body extremely sensitive to their touch since their extra concentration on impregnating her. The two of them have used and excited her body so much over the course of the past couple of weeks that her body now seemed trained to immediately illicit a response to their touch. Which for Callista had increased her pleasure from intoxicating to mind-blowing. She breathed a short assent that she would do as told and delivered their plates to the kitchens.

The bath with the two of them had been—well, mind-blowing, and she had found her knees slightly weak after they finished. Fortunately they had some time to finish washing and for Callista to get her feet back under her before Imyth had finished. Once dressed, she left with them with the intention of parting ways once they turned towards the Hatching Sands to go towards the Bowl.

However, Lale’s grip on the back of her neck remained firm even as she’d been prepared to walk away from them. Oh? Callista allowed herself to be steered towards the hatching sands, her face brightly lit with a smile. Oh, there were so many perks to being with them that she could never count them all. She did hope that her body was no longer as flushed as it had been right after the bath. Her feet were working fine in front of her, and that was the best that she could hope for. If her face and body still seemed a little flushed, then so be it.

After they entered, she was sad to no longer feel L’ale’s guiding hand, but kept her face neutral. Instead, she focused in on the many people that had gathered to offer their congratulations. She was surprised to see non-ranked riders here, and even some unfamiliar faces—which to her meant non-riders. As they walked past the others, she recognized the brown weyrling from the underground lake. She smiled and offered him a wink of recognition before turning back to Eimerra. She stayed behind L’ale and L’nal, obviously nowhere near their rank, and waited until the spot before Eimerra was free before she bowed respectfully.

“Congratulations on your clutch, Eimerra. Imyth.” She smiled politely over at the gold, though her heart twisted at the reminder of what her mother had wanted her to be. She stepped away to let any others through, knowing that it wasn’t her place to hold Eimerra’s attention when other ranked riders would be arriving. Once she was to the side, her gaze scanned the eggs, searching for any sign that another mutated dragon might be here. Callista looked back at Eimerra and decided against the search. Eimerra and hers were too sweet to birth such abominations. This would be a fine clutch of traditional colors.

Of course it isn't, was the black dragon's confident, swaggering reply/ He raised his neck against the queen's, radiating pride from every pore. Only a queen as beautiful as you and a dragon as mighty as I can produce the clutches our weyr deserves.
Neisoth's pride turned S'bok's light jog to a sort of swagger; he was happy to stroll into the hall and count the eggs, smiling when they were less in number than his clutch had been.

As ever he scanned their colors, such as were evident at this stage. He didn't see the large smoky worl that had signified Neisoth's egg; nor did he see the off-red color that had contained the red hatchlings.

No mutations. He slumped very slightly. At war with Neisoth on that – to Neisoth, the fact he was the apparent only father or his kind was a point of pride. To S'bok it was worrying. What would happen to the new dragons when he was gone? Would they just die out, the weyr wiping them from history?

Of course...what he noticed right after was the lack of Eimerra. He turned to Halirina, instead, raising an eyebrow. “Where's your junior?”

Kayden followed the class to the newest Clutching. Her emotions were warring within her as each step brought her nearer to the next set of eggs. How many candidates that stood around her now would have to Stand for the next Hatching due to not Impressing for this upcoming one? Would she be allowed to Stand by then? Or would she be sidelined again and have to watch as more hatchlings Impressed other Candidates? She couldn’t, or at least wouldn’t, begrudge those who Stood and were able to Impress. If a dragonet found them, then they deserved their position and she would be thrilled for them to find their lifemate. That sting of jealousy should be easy enough to hide… she hoped.

The Hatching Sands already seemed to be rather busy with people coming to congratulate the young Weyrwoman. She saw the other Weyrwomen and their mates... Including S'bok. Her gaze stuck on him for just a moment, having not seen him since Neisoth had been bitten, before tearing her gaze away to anything else. She definitely didn't want to attract their attention by staring. At least they are okay... she thought before she observed the other people in the area.  A small smile snuck to Kayden’s features. Even when her own emotions seemed filled with turmoil, she was happy that such an event could bring people together and help them be at least a little happier. It had been a little less than a week since the Hunter attack and the Weyr needed something positive to bring them back together. The image of S’bel in Healer Hall, seeming so defeated was still burned in her mind. It was one of the reasons she refused to miss the Hatching. It had strengthened her resolve to prove she deserved to Stand, which meant continuing to do everything a Candidate would do, until she was given the ok to be back on the Sands for the day of the Hatching.

She looked in on the Sands at the new eggs. Their shells all so different from one another, just as the dragons would be within. One of them in particular seemed to catch her eye. It was different than all of the others with an apparent split in colors. It had almost a silver hue for the base, darkening to a grey towards the middle of the egg while the top had a very pretty green. It was beautiful, though so were the others. She wondered if any of these would contain any of the newer dragons. She couldn’t remember if either of the parents had had any of the Black lineage that would probably create more of them, but she hoped there would be more. Maybe with more of them around, people would see they are not a threat, and they would be better integrated into the Weyr? She could always hope for that at least. After all, it did seem she had been living on hope lately.

The clutch is one the Sands. We should go and see. The bronze stretched on their ledge, ready to bring the pair to the sands. They had just finished dinner and a little bit more practice and were going to call it a night before the Clutching was announced. //Do we need to go? We are not ranked to give congratulations, and I already have you, so am not a hopeful Candidate who is looking to see their prospective bonded. // the exhaustion was apparent in the weyrling’s thoughts. They had decided they preferred morning trainings when it was coolest, so had been rising with the sun to train before chores, but it also meant early to bed. I would like to still say my piece to the laying Queen. It is only polite. We are bronzes with the potential of rank one day. We should act like it. Jabyth left no room for doubt with his confident answer. Even he was tired, but he buried it with the knowledge of his responsibility. D’von couldn’re really argue with that.

D’von pushed off the bed, grateful he had been too lazy to strip before plopping on his bed, he headed to the awaiting bronze. He was pretty much fully grown by now, only a few months from graduation which had allowed them to recently acquire their own weyr. Jabyth lowered himself to allow D’von to climb up between the neck ridge and hold on. //No riding straps for this quick trip, so be gentle with me.// Jabyth nodded his massive head as he unfurled his wings for the decent. It was still not the smoothest ride, as they were steadily improving their flying, but it was a huge improvement over when they were first learning.

D’von slid off the neck, giving his lifemate a gentle pat of appreciation for the ride before walking the rest of the way to the Sands. Good evening, Queen Kalestath, and Queen Oriath. He nodded his head towards the other Queens on the sand, not wanting to offend them by ignoring them. Congratulations from my D’von and myself, our Queen Imyth. You have done wonderfully with this Clutch, the young bronze acknowledged when he reached the edge of the Sands to see the Weyr’s newest additions. Jabyth bowed his head to the Queen attempting to keep distance between himself and the actual eggs, the epitome of a chivalrous dragon. He knew and understood rank and had complete respect for the hierarchy. D’von stood next to him, admiring the new eggs. //I hope we have enough Candidates for all of the young ones. We could definitely use them all with our numbers disappearing so rapidly.// It was a scary thought how many they had lost recently during the Interval. The time that they normally were safe, and little more than guards for their Weyr, and here they were, dropping in numbers due to the Hunters and Snakes that plagued their island. Just wait until we are a part of a Wing, mine. We will pay them back for the damage that was done. D’von nodded. That was true. They would help protect their Weyr, and all of the families within, from the beasts that lurked in the Jungle and waters.

The young Harper was thrilled. Another Clutching so soon since the last! It made it so much easier to collect information to compare later when they happened close together. She was trying to keep track of the lineage of the mating pair and the colors of dragons that were born. They already had an idea of the normal colors, but the mutations threw them all for a loop. She was making it her job to study this new change and find a trend. She also wanted to know if there were any signs that could be seen from the shells as to what kind of dragon would lay within.

She might also be trying to go to see if her father would be present… maybe, though she wouldn’t admit it just yet. She was going to try and find out a little more about him before actually confronting him, since she was fairly positive he still shouldn’t know who she was. But, at least she may be able to actually see him, and know it is him. She wasn’t sure if this would be her first real sighting of the man, or if maybe she had seen him and passing and not known it, but she was hoping she could listen in to conversations to figure out who he was for sure at this event.

She held a small piece of parchment and pen and worked her way through the bustle of the tunnels towards the Sands. Once there, she tucked herself into a corner, where she could observe the Clutch, but still be rather invisible to the crowd, not that most would pay her any mind with their excitement anyway. After a quick scan of the eggs, she gave a small pout. So far it didn’t appear that there would be any mutations if there were any indications from the previous Hatchings, though it didn’t mean she couldn’t have a little hope for a surprise later on.

She kept her ears peeled in case she heard anyone mention L’del as she took down the number of eggs and their colors, under the names of the two breeding dragons. As of right now, there was nothing, which did leave her a bit disappointed. Seems to be a day of disappointment. Surely something can add some excitement for today. Once she completed her notes, she let her gaze wander through the crowd, curious who had shown up so far for the Clutching. Most of the upper leadership seemed to have already arrived, with quite a few faces she didn’t necessarily know. Still not everyone that should be here though, so she would stick around a little longer to see if her luck would turn around.

"Hmm." Evesa had to grin back at Ithiskarien, not caring that she looked a total fool. The woman's smiling was infectious. "Who would you disrupt? You have as much of a right to be here as anyone else, darling." The term of endearment slipped out before she could stop it. Evesa bit her lip, but her smile lingered.

The Stands? Evesa glanced up at them, then back at Ithis. There was slight, playful rebellion in her eyes. "Would you like a rider to escort you to get a closer look? Before the candidates ruin it for you?" She knew what it felt like; everyone desperate to Impress, more candidates than eggs, such a sense of competition and rivalry... She glanced over at the eggs...

And subconsciously moved closer to Ithis, curling her arm around her waist. Her jaw tightened. The twins. Just the idea of them, especially L'ale, around Ithis gave her a bad feeling in her gut. "Hmm?" she hummed distractedly, gazing at the other woman. "Oh, Seriath? She's...bored. Why don't we go see her and I can take you to see the eggs another time. Or if you'd rather go alone... I mean, I don't want you to feel like I'm making you, or you have to... Uh..."

Realizing that, yet again, she was giving off a rather controlling image, she let go and took a step away. Why couldn't she word properly with this woman? Awww! You're so cute, my Eve!

Kalestath thrummed at her mate when he arrived, standing to greet him. She even rubbed her shimmering hide against his as her affection was projected. Kalestath adored the compliment and, once she settled at his side, let her tail entwine with his. I hope you will win my next flight, she cooed.

She was the picture of relaxation until the Weyrling and his dragon arrived. Kalestath tensed minutely, a low rumbling growl of warning for him. Weyrlings were generally not supposed to invade the space of the Hatching Sands. That was the territory of the Golds and their Mates. But she let him pay his respects, if only because it was appropriate, before the giant Gold stood and moved from Neisoth to essentially bully the Bronze out of the way. He would either back and give her space or risk Kalestath pushing him physically out of the away. Male dragons that are not mated do not get so close, she chided, gentle only because he was still a young thing. Otherwise she’d have been far more aggressive.

Halirina’s attention wandered to the entrance of the Hatching Sands, where her dragon was acting a smitten fool. Thankfully, S’bok’s presence snapped her out of the detached thoughts she’d had. She watched him review the clutch and, was that disappointment? Trying to hide the smile, both from her dragon’s pride and S’bok’s veiled discontentment, she glanced through the crowd before indicating past D’mir, over toward a cluster of Riders. It was only then she realized Eimerra was fending off a weyrling that had shown up.

With a faint sigh, she moved to intervene. Past all the riders that had arrived. Until Kalestath made it known another weyrling had shown. Could D’zel not keep them tethered elsewhere? Since Eimerra seemed to be handling the one, Halirina moved to the other. The boy was being herded away by Kalestath, but she was more than willing to explain the misgiving. “Best to keep your dragon away,” she said simply. “Golds are particularly broody around this time and she might snap at him.”

"I don't know...I have learned to err on the side of caution around dragonriders, especially whose with broody Queens." She said with a little chuckle. She caught the greenrider's endearment then and flushed a little. Evesa was so sweet, Ithiskarien was pretty sure she had never in her life been more smitten. Nor did she have any concern whatsoever that Evesa might be feeling this less than she did. There were times when she let herself believe this was love but she knew so little about Evesa still, it was more infatuation than anything.

Catching the look in Evesa's eyes, she asked, a little bit teasingly, "Are you offering?"

With the sudden change in demeanor, Evesa got closer and wrapped an arm around Ithiskarien's waist. She almost asked if everything was alright but even if she had, she doubted Evesa would have heard her entirely. She seemed somewhat distracted now.

"I imagine, Seriath would want to be here, rather than stuck at home." Although she didn't know how many dragons were permitted to see the eggs, she never really paid much attention to that. She was sure though Seriath would be the type who would want to see them. Ithis didn't like it when Evesa let go of her and moved away. She caught how uncertain her words were at the same time and wondered if someone here was making her uncomfortable or if she was?

She moved in closer to Evesa again and took her hand in her own. "I would enjoy spending time with you rather than go alone." Ithiskarien didn't know how to read Evesa's current mood. Was she nervous for some reason? Had she given her cause to be nervous? If she had she had better set things right. She wanted Evesa to feel comfortable around her.

No matter that it was part of his and L’ale’s official duties as Wingseconds to personally make an appearance and congratulate the clutch parents on a new generation of dragonets, L’nal had always found clutchings to be boring affairs. What was the point in congratulating a Gold on something they were supposed to do anyway? Maybe if there had been another Gold egg—but it was doubtful there were going to be much more of those for the time being. Historically, at least, the frequency of Gold Flights dropped during an Interval. Which meant the amount of Golds alive at one time would drop as well.

Which presented an entirely other problem. If someone… unsavory… ended up winning Kalestath’s next few Flights, they might very well end up becoming Weyrleader for several turns rather than simply one.

But for now, he didn’t care. Kalestat’s next Flight was still a few months away, and he and his brother were currently occupied by breeding with Callista. Having the Green Rider so constantly attentive to them was quite welcome. So though he wasn’t exactly thrilled about having to make a trip to the Hatching Sands, L’nal was at least relaxed and in a good mood when he, his brother, and Callista finally found their way there.

L’nal mirrored his brother’s bow at the same moment, pleased at the synchronization they exhibited as always. “A fine clutch indeed.” But Skeleeth was bored, yawning as he pressed against the side of Ariyath not occupied by Illoth’s bulk.

A small clutch, he/L’nal commented to their brothers. I bet it will be mostly Blues and Greens like usual. Imyth had a reputation for producing mostly lower colors. But at least he didn’t think she would be having any mutations arise from her clutch.

All power-play by L'ale is acceptable.

Imyth and Thianorth’s behavior had clued Polanth in to the fact that the Gold would be clutching soon. Subconsciously, M’rek had known that Eimerra’s dragon would be due to lay her eggs. But in the press of everything happening in the aftermath of the Hunter attack, he’d simply… forgotten. Had other things on his mind. M’rek felt guilty about it, considering both his friendships with D’mir and Eimerra. But he thought the two of them would forgive him, under the circumstances. So long as he put in his due appearance on the Sands.

So he had Polanth drop him off at the bottom of the Weyr Bowl, and entered the Hatching Sands from through the wide opening the dragons themselves could walk in and out of. Polanth remained out in the grass, keeping a respectful distance far back from the entrance to the Sands. Politely, to both Imyth and Thianorth, he said, A handsome clutch. Both of you are duly proud.

M’rek surveyed the eggs as he entered the Sands, and bowed to the Gold and the other riders more highly ranked than him. “Congratulations.”

Re: These Tiny Lives [1.9.2589 8PM] Imyth's Clutching
« Reply #23 on: June 21, 2014, 09:39:59 AM »
O’sir had already whisked Sethunya away to his weyr for the evening when Saibrasoth announced that Imyth had laid her clutch. Sitting up in the bedfurs where he’d stretched out with her after a bout of lazy sex, the Candidate Master ran his hands through his tousled hair. “Imyth has clutched,” he announced to Sethunya with a faint smile. “And I’m required to go give my congratulations. Since you’re my weyrmate, you’re welcome to come with me.” Truthfully, he didn’t want to be away from her. So he was glad of the reason to bring her along that, logically, the other ranked riders couldn’t argue with.

The two of them dressed quickly, and Saibrasoth was swift in taking them down to the bottom of the Bowl. So it was arm in arm, escorting her as he properly should for a situation like this one, that O’sir entered the Hatching Sands with Sethunya.

The Candidate Master was smart enough not to approach too closely, keeping a respectful distance from both Imyth and her eggs. “I wished to issue my congratulations on your clutch,” he told her once she was done escorting a weyrling away from venturing too close to the eggs.

Leremith settled protectively next to his own Queen when Imyth finally made her appearance on the Sands, silently lending his dutiful support to Oriath as she brooded over her clutch. But while he could simply ignore the other dragons that steadily dropped off riders coming and going to wish Eimerra and Imyth congratulations, he and B’ron couldn’t really ignore the very-pregnant Weyrwoman who had rolled out of their bedfurs and stalked into the Hatching Sands.

Sharing an inward sigh with his dragon, the Weyrsecond slipped out of bed as well. He tugged on his pants, securing the laces before pulling on a shirt and rubbing at his close-cropped hair so it was at least moderately tamed. But this wasn’t his clutch, and he had no one to impress. So if he looked a little mussed—well, that was what happened when a Gold laid late in the evening.

He was, however, pleased that Imyth’s clutch was smaller than Oriath’s. Whose was nothing on Kalestath’s of course—but at least this one would have no mutations. Inclining his head to the other ranked riders present, B’ron moved to stand by Leremith, leaning against his Bronze’s foreleg while Vanelwynne sat on Oriath’s paw.

We have proven ourselves better than them yet again, Leremith remarked with a pleased rumble. D’mir didn’t even get Eimerra pregnant.

Which was quite a point of pride for B’ron. Halirina hadn’t given him any children in quite a while. But this younger Weyrwoman… well, he supposed there was one advantage to taking Weyrsecond rather than Weyrleader. Even if it did make him fairly possessive of Vanelwynne for the duration of her pregnancy.
