Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
7.2591 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Feel free to say hello, guesties! Registered members can request a colored name here.

this holds no IC consequence and is only for fun.

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome!

http://southernwindsweyr.net/Images/news icon copy.png We are a mature, 9th Interval AU Pern. We've destroyed almost the entire planet in a catastrophic event. While we feature 2 new mutations, we stick pretty close to canon. We've Ranks, roles, and positions for just about anyone who wants to get involved, with a relaxed community. Play and post at your own pace. Swing by and say hello!

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

S'lar [ 11.03.2554 / Brown Rider]
« on: February 11, 2014, 03:21:13 PM »

Play By: Jason Momoa
Biography

First Name: Saenlar.

Honorific: S'lar.

Nicknames: None yet!

Date of Birth: 11.03.2554 9th Pass.

Place of Birth: Born in Eastern Weyr, however due to the fall he was raised in Southern.

Dragon Color: Brown.

Impression Age:
2573/18.

Wing Rank: Wingsecond.

Weyrmate: None.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: With long hair, an athletic build and weathered face from turns of riding and exploring the jungle, S'lar has developed a rather wild, intimidating demeanor to those who don't know him well. His tight riding leather and confident authority combine to produce a sleek, dangerous look to the casual eye. Though not often in the Weyr commons, when he does come down for food or company he is always warm and friendly to those around him, his kind attitude and easy laugh softening his sometimes frightening appearance.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: S'lar was a child during the terror of the 9th pass. His earliest memories are of being carried amidst a horde of panicked refugees, screams echoing as the slow and elderly were caught by the advancing Threadfall. He grew up amongst the survivors in Southern Weyr, and was drawn to the riders, and more specifically, to their dragons. After his own Impression, he threw himself into his training with a passion. After needing the rider's protection for so long, he vowed to himself that now, having joined their ranks, he would repay that debt and then some. To this day, he is unceasing in his dedication to the weyrfolk and the remnants of humanity that he serves.

Response to dragon color mutations: S'lar approaches the new mutations with cautious hope. His view is that they, like the other colors, will find a role for themselves and have a positive impact against the Hunters. However, this view is tempered by the cataclysmic losses over the last several Passes.

Who are you...

Likes: S'lar is really fond of peace and quiet. Raised in the chaos of falling Thread and evacuation, used to constantly being alert and on guard when exploring the jungle, he wants the few times he stays in the Weyr to relax or heal to be relaxing, not filled with drama.

His secret weakness is for stories! S'lar holds a great fondness for the Harpers, as few of them as are left. Some of his best memories are of listening to their stories and songs in Southern Weyr, and he respects them as one of the few sources of laughter and happiness left in the world.

Dislikes: Drama and pettiness. Nothing frustrates S'lar more than people who are unwilling to work together or cooperate over something that (in his mind, at least) is unimportant. As a survivor and protector of his people, it drives him insane to see the kind of stupid things people will do over simple problems that are frequently easy to solve. (This may also in part be because he often has to go rescue them or clean up their mess.)

Hunters. Holy shit he hates the hunters. He sees them as the primary obstacle to the expansion and survival of the weyr, even more than the water snakes. Those, he reasons, at least don't leave the water. S'lar is definitely on the "Let's just murder them and be done with it" side of things, though if someone came up with a way to tame/harness them he could be persuaded to accept that instead.

Strengths:

* Confidence: S'lar has a strong belief in both himself and his weyr. Raised in the Weyr, he considers dragons and humans to be capable of anything, as long as enough effort and time are expended. While he does still worry about the future, his "everything will work out" attitude is comforting to many.

* Honesty: One of the things that helped S'lar rise through the ranks of riders is his consistent honesty. When he was a child, he rarely bragged or exaggerated his accomplishments. Though a small thing incidentally, it became valuable in fighting threadfall, particularly as the Weyrs and Holds fell, as the Weyrleaders knew they could count on his accurate reports.

* Unwavering: The combination of confidence and fatalism means that S'lar often takes very direct action, with little regard for personal consequences (i.e. taking a problem directly to a superior, or making very tight jumps Between to save a fellow rider).

* Dedication: Raised in the Weyr, in the crucible of the 9th Pass, S'lar has an ironclad determination to the Weyr and his fellow riders. He tries to go above and beyond to serve the Weyr and protect his people, to the point of frequently neglecting his personal life.

* Humility: S'lar takes his position as a protector of the Weyr very seriously. He makes a point of never turning down a genuine request for aid without reason. Whether that be assisting with gathering food or helping a child find a lost toy, he's usually willing to help anyone who needs it as long as something more serious doesn't take precedence.

Weaknesses:

* Fatalistic: The converse of his confidence. The same "everything will work out" attitude can occasionally switch into "This is how things were meant to be", which can lead to missed opportunities and inertia.

* Straightforward: Though at times a strength, the fearlessness that serves him so well means S'lar tends to be injured more often than others, and direct action is sometimes not the best way to approach a social or difficult situation.

* Trusting: S'lar tends to want to see the best in people. While this is an admirable concept, it unfortunately is not always true. He can be easy to deceive, particularly by those he trusts.

* Authoritative: S'lar can be difficult to deal with when the problem is something that he considers to be ridiculous or petty. His response to people who're making a big deal out of something trivial tends to be "This is how to fix it. You do this. You do that. Now get over it."

* Altruistic: Tends to ignore personal concerns in favor of taking care of others. Has occasionally flown injured or gone for days without sleep during emergencies, and is known to push himself beyond exhaustion if someone doesn't stop him.

Describe Yourself:

* Protector: ----- As a rider, his entire life is devoted to keeping his people safe, whether from Thread, Hunters or each other.

* Instinctive: ----- Quick reactions and fast reflexes, kept honed by time in the jungle.

* Self-Assured: ----- Never questions his decisions, even after the fact. He does what he thinks is best with the information he has, and trusts in his own judgement.

* Reliable: ----- Always does what he agrees to. Puts the needs of others before himself.

* Unassuming: ----- Outside of his requirements as a rider, lives a simple life. Doesn't ask for much for himself, and tries not to interfere with others unless necessary.

The Magic Touch: S'lar spends most of his free time by himself, whether out exploring and hunting in the jungle or just shut off in his personal rooms. In his evening down time, after the day's work is done, he's rarely out mingling amongst the weyrfolk. As such, he doesn't have much of a social life, something that stands out in the largely community-centric weyr.
This is partly because he's frequently just exhausted from trying to take care of many of the day-to-day issues in the Weyr, but also because he finds many of the other senior riders abrasive and unpleasant, and thus secludes himself to avoid unnecessary conflict. Fortunately, he's avoided a reputation for cowardice by refusing to back down from conflict when it arises. Indeed, his distance from the various bickering groups has led to his being called upon as a mediator, since he's fairly impartial in most matters.  Where riders like L'nal and L'ale are dominant leaders, S'lar does his best to keep everything glued together from behind the scenes.

Family...

Mother: Nalira. Fisher, 2530. Deceased.
Father: N'rav. Blue wingrider, 2518. Missing, presumed dead.

Siblings: S'lar has no siblings that he's aware of, though the nature of weyr life and riders makes it possible. As far as he's concerned, though, his family all died in the 9th Pass.

Tell us a story...

This is the perfect place for you to write out your character’s history. Dot points work out best. So list the important events in their life and a small description of what happened.

* 2555, 1 year Parents die in Threadfall, taken to Southern Weyr.

* 2562, 7 years Spends most of his time doing various chores and simple tasks around the weyr. With no one to look after him, much of his education is neglected outside of his specific duties. While satisfactory at the time, as this gives him more chances to play with the other children, later on he begins to regret not having more formal instruction.

* 2567, 12 Southern Weyr is abandoned. Evacuates to Fort Weyr. Saenlar remembers this much more vividly, seeing as he's old enough to actually be aware of his surroundings. Taken as an apprentice by the Healer Hall, along with dozens of other young children to help cope with the numerous injuries and upkeep involved  in managing the packed weyr. This time is obviously stressful, and Saenlar begins to focus intently on his work to keep his mind free of the terror of the time.

* 2571, 16 High Reaches is abandoned. Saenlar is old enough to assist with the incoming rush of people, and does his best to both impress the weyrfolk and help the refugees. Time learning from the healers makes him particularly valuable here. Once again, he finds himself being drawn into his work, almost obsessively so, keeping busy so that he doesn't have time to worry about the implications. His down time, like much of the rest of the weyr, is filled with fear and the worry that human life on Pern will end up becoming extinct.

* 2573/18 Impresses Brown Aelsanth. This event changes Saenlar's life completely. The transition from helpless orphan to warrior in training is a profound change for S'lar, and he throws himself into his new role with a passion.

* 2575, 20 Graduates from weyrling to full rider. Begins taking on more responsibility, both in the weyr and outside it, as well as extensive training both in-flight and on the ground. S'lar is ecstatic, both at his graduation and the thought of being able to go on full flights with his dragon. In spite of the danger, he begins to actually look forward to his first official flight.

* 2576, 21 Flies his first Threadfall the following spring. Though terrifying, he discovers the fierce joy of adrenaline and putting your life on the line, and this drives him to volunteer for more assignments.

* 2579, 24 Wins his first Green flight. Has a brief relationship with the rider before they separate due to the stress of losing against the Thread. S'lar takes this hard, and begins to believe that he won't be able to settle down until the Pass ends and everyone is safe.

* 2587, 32 Instrumental in exploring Southern Winds after it's discovered by D'mir. S'lar is part of the crew that clears the mountain out and puts in the initial effort to make it livable. Assists in scouting Northern Continent to determine whether it's salvageable and in the evacuation of Fort Weyr.

* 2588, 33 Promoted to Wingsecond. Willingly accepts the new responsibility associated with the position, considering it fitting to his dedication and a better chance to help people.

Dragon Details

Name: Aelsanth.
Color:
Brown.
Date of Birth:
19.10.2573 9th Pass.
Place of Birth: Fort Weyr.
Clutch Mother:
Gold Kalestath.
Clutch Father:
Bronze Leremith.
Measurements:

Mature Length: 35 meters.
Mature Height: 7 meters.
Mature Wingspan: 58 meters.

General Appearance...

Aelsanth was a fairly standard brown at hatching, if perhaps a bit underweight. It quickly became apparent, however, that his initial size was quite misleading. He grew. And grew. And grew more. Once he finally hit maturity, he towered up over most other dragons, even nearing some of the smaller bronzes in size, and to this day he remains one of the larger dragons in the weyr. His hide has matured into a shade of warm, deep brown that sometimes seems to glow from within, particularly after a long nap in the sun. Several faint scars from Thread and Hunter mar the flat, matte surface, however, testament to the dangers of their new home and the insanity that brought them there

Personality...

Mind Voice: Aelsanth has a very smooth, mellow-sounding voice.

Likes: Warm sun, like most dragons. He enjoys sunbathing and is usually stretched out in front of their cave when he's not out flying. Also has an unusual fondness for firelizards. There's usually two or three hanging around him, enjoying his company. Aelsanth tends to be amused by their antics rather than irritated.

Dislikes: Hates the Hunters. Considers them twisted perversions of dragons, and doesn't like that they hurt people. Also dislikes people being rude or mean to others. Much like his rider, he just wants everyone to get along.

Strengths:

* Supportive: Aelsanth, being a brown, is very supportive towards both his rider and other dragons. He just wants everyone to be friends.

* Dexterous: Aelsanth has had a lot of practice in performing very fine, precise maneuvers in flight, first against the Thread and then in rescuing people as the Northern Continent was abandoned.

Weaknesses:

* Overzealous: Sometimes people don't want help with their problems. Aelsanth… really doesn't understand that concept. It's not malicious, but he doesn't always know when to leave well enough alone.

* Easily injured: Aelsanth is a tiny bit naďve. He likes people, and likes to help people, and he's confused and hurt if they lash out at him or snub him over it. Thankfully, the relatively short memory of dragons means that he's not usually upset for long.

Flit Details

Name:
Scion
Pronounced:
How you'd say it.
Color:
Bronze
Date of Birth:
2589 9th Interval.
Place of Birth:
Southern Winds Weyr

General Appearance...

This flit is perhaps the most strangely-colored Bronze flit in the weyr. He’s often mistaken for a very dark green, as his shade of bronze is closer to that than it is to gold. He bears heavy markings, even darker than the rest of his skin, like a patina on aged metal. He has, additionally, little flecks of a purpled-brown along his spine and wingsails.

Personality...

Mind Voice: He has a ringing, bell-like quality to his voice.

Likes: Being productive : He enjoys helping his owner complete tasks. He is a “working fire lizard”.
Directness : He does not like being teased, either with affection, rewards, or food.

Dislikes: Being bossed around : He dislikes being told what to do by anyone save his owner, and this includes Gold flits. He will actively avoid them to prevent this, except when they rise for mating flights.
Lazy people : Because of his devotion to being productive, this Bronze dislikes those who he sees as shirking their duty.

Member Info...

Anything Else:
Is pretty aggressive and dominant, even for a Bronze flit.
