Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

Appearance: Kayn has never been one to pay much mind to appearances, since he always only wore what he had. It wasn’t until he’d join the Peacekeepers that he began to appreciate wearing leathers and wher hide to better protect his body from injuries. Because it took so long for him to wear anything more than cloth, his body is riddled in scars from fist and knife fights alike. His nose and hands have been broken on multiple occasions. One finger has been broken so much so that he was unable to set it back in place, and now it appears a bit bent in comparison with his other fingers. Others hardly notice the difference unless he openly spreads his hands out, but he notices on a daily basis as there’s usually a dull ache that lives at the joint and especially so on cold, wet days.

His hair has grown longer over the years, either out of laziness or since his role has Peacekeeper has made the fights less frequent to worry about it has a weakness. Since the move to the Weyr, Kayn has kept himself a bit cleaner than usual due to his enjoyment of the bathing springs. Usually, he was always covered in some sort of dirt or grime that made his skin appear darker than normal.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: He blames the dragonriders for the 9th Pass Catastrophe and the repercussions that it had on the Holds and his youth. The constant Threadfall made food scarce and caused more casualties at Tillek Hold than Thread did. Between starvation, malnutrition, and disease, Kayn hadn’t been surprised when his mother had died. It was why he fought so fiercely to make sure his sister remained fed and had everything he could provide to her by being in a gang. 

Response to dragon color mutations: He really doesn’t care. He hates dragonriders, so having new colors means nothing to him. He’ll hate them just as much as the others. If anything, he’d say that the color mutations are a result of their failure to protect Pern during the 9th Pass and that the new dragons are probably a foreshadowing of their decline.

Likes:
Aldresk – He hadn’t thought he could care for anyone or anything beyond his sister, but the bond he feels with Aldresk is one of complete trust and comfort. He knows that the bronze wher will always have his and Remira’s back. Kayn relies on the wher for anything he may need.

Being a Peacekeeper – Once he got a taste of the power from being a Peacekeeper, Kayn has never looked back. Growing up having nothing has given him a greater appreciation for having any semblance of power or control over his own life and over the lives of others. He feeds on that power and will commit any crime if it means more power and opportunities for himself and his sister.

Fighting, blood, hurting others – Kayn enjoys violence and exerting his power over others. Though he isn’t prone to immediate violence or tempers, once he starts there’s no question to how much he enjoys it.

Being intoxicated – Whether it is by alcohol or drugs, he craves the feeling of numbness. He’s always filled with self-loathing, especially when he’s around his sister, and the drugs numb that shame and guilt where he can enjoy her company without those negative feelings eating at him. He’ll also use drinking and drugs to allow him to fantasize he’s with Remira when he’s with another.

Spoiling his sister – He’d sell his soul for her if she’d ask it of him. He’ll do anything to make her happy, which usually means bringing home surprise gifts or other material items. He also works to make sure she’s well-fed, clothed, and pampered.

Bathing – This is a luxury he hadn’t really been afforded during his youth, so now that there are open baths in the Weyr, he thoroughly enjoys his time there. Sometimes, even if he has already washed once that day, he’ll go again just at the chance to soak in the hotter springs and maybe even take a nap.

Dislikes:
Anyone near his sister – Seeing others with her reminds him that he can’t be with her. It strikes a nerve in him, though he doesn’t always act on it. Most often, he’ll intervene in some way just to scare the others away from her or to put himself between her and the others to drive a subtle but clear point home. If he feels she’s being too flirtatious or is hanging around “bad” guys, he’ll give her a strict ‘talking to’ that usually ends up in some sort of physical contact until he calms down or has to leave.

Feeling powerless – Having worked his way up from the bottom, he never wants to be down there again. He feels that he’s worked enough and done enough in his life that he and his sister now deserve a better one. Anyone trying to make him feel powerless may trigger him to break character and lash out.

Dragonriders – They all seem to get all the favors and have everything they please. He’s primarily jealous of their lives and has turned that jealousy into hatred. It’s their fault that the 9th Pass was so awful and all the holders and people were scrambling for scraps in order to put something in their stomachs. He blames them for the death of his mother and state of Tillek Hold during his youth.

Himself – Above all, Kayn hates himself. He feels shame and guilt for how he feels towards his sister, because he knows it’s not right. The dragonriders may follow their own strange ways of love, but as a holder, it isn’t right to love a family member. He buries this feeling deep within himself and will do anything to protect his sister, which means not letting others find out and scarring her reputation.

Strengths:

* PATIENT/CONTROL : His lack of emotion or reactions towards others gives him the outward appearance of great patience and control. He doesn’t try to rush others nor does he snap at them for any reason. He’ll hear others out and answer accordingly, unless he really doesn’t give a shit and then he’ll just rudely walk way. Even if others are slinging insults at him or trying to get him riled up, he won’t get angry or show any active emotion.

* DECISIVE : Kayn keeps things as simple as possible in his mind. Everything is black and white. One way or another. Organizing everything this way causes him to be a very decisive person. He doesn’t hem and haw over decisions or moral issues. He’ll make up his mind rather quickly and stick to it without second thoughts.

* COMMITTED : While his allegiance may never fully be on the job or the one in command of it, he is still committed to achieving the desired result. He does have some pride in his work and making sure that it is done in the most efficient manner. There’s no job that he would shy away from and would accept the task without question.

* FAST LEARNER : He’s had to learn things fast since being a child in order to survive. He became adept at picking things up just by watching it twice and then being able to mimic it exactly as he saw it. This specifically applies to more physical skills such as fighting, theft and stealth, sex, and dealing with drugs.

* LOW-KEY/SUBDUED : Kayn is a very subdued person. It’s rare to see him yell or show any strong emotion. Most of his words are spoken in monotone, and even those are few and far between when dealing with others. He’s most vocal around his sister, and otherwise has the appearance of a very unfazed and disinterested person.

Weaknesses:

* SISTER : Kayn realized his love for his sister is more than just as a brother around the time he turned 18 Turns. He’s always been close with her since they were young, sharing everything with one another and not really understanding where there should be boundaries. After their mother died, he took it upon himself to do everything in his power to take care of Remira. His push for more power in the gang was primarily driven by the need to be spoil his sister. Almost every action he takes and decision he makes is driven by his inner need to do everything he can for his sister. While he’s very antisocial and unengaged with others, she is the only one he will open up to and have a more free-flowing conversation with.

* DEPENDENT : His emotional and mental state are heavily dependent on Remira. His life revolves around taking care of her, so times when he’s without her may leave him a bit on edge. He feels that she’s the only one who will ever truly understand him, which is why he’s more open and receptive to others when she’s around. If she’s out late, he won’t be able to sleep until she’s back.

* AGGRESSIVE : He isn’t one to jump into a fight or act out rashly like those with hot tempers may do. Instead, he becomes aggressive after a fight has already begun. The only time he ever instigates a fight is if he’s already planned to beat said person down for some reason or other that is likely related to either not paying up or his sister. Once the fight has begun, Kayn will lose himself in the fight in a sort of trance.

* READING/WRITING : He learned enough about reading and writing when he became a messenger for the early gang that he can get by with understanding most things. Peacekeeper training forced him to learn a bit more, though his sister helped as much as she could. He’s a bit dyslexic, which makes him slow at reading and even slower at writing.

* TUNNEL-VISIONED : Kayn is a one-track mind guy when it comes to his priorities. All that matters to him is his sister at this point, which means he would willingly throw everything else by the wayside if it would mean her happiness. Drugs, friends, relationships, himself…Insults made towards him easily roll off his back and he could care less. It would take upsetting Remira to get any sort of real reaction from him.

Describe Yourself:

* SADIST: ----- Fighting and hurting others gives him almost the feeling of being high, and this is one of the few occasions others will see him smiling. Once he starts, it’s almost impossible for him to stop unless someone either takes him down or his sister pulls him out of it. He enjoys taking others down and proving his dominance and power over them.

* BLUNT: ----- Kayn isn’t one to use any sort of flowery language. He typically uses the exact words that are needed to express what he needs to say and no more than that. Most of what he says is usually brutally honest as well since he doesn’t care about hurting others’ feelings. The only thing he’s always dishonest about is his forbidden attraction and love for his sister.

* POSSESSIVE: ----- Even though he hasn’t admitted his feelings to his sister or even allowed himself to really give in to the temptation, he still exhibits displays of jealously and possessiveness towards her. His sister doesn’t recognize it as anything unusual since he’s always been this way towards her and just assumes it is natural for an older brother to be this overprotective and bossy when it comes to who she is in contact with.

* HEDONISTIC: ----- In dealing with the life he’d been dealt, Kayn takes pleasure in anything he can. Whether that’s fighting, drinking, sex, or drugs, he’ll do anything for the chance at even a few minutes of pleasure.

* APATHETIC: ----- Kayn doesn’t feel anything towards anyone other than himself and his sister (and a general hate of dragonriders). If he does have a spurt of emotion towards someone, it is usually short-lived. This means that even anger or rage that might have been felt for someone will eventually dissipate until he’s impartial to them again.

* SELF-LOATHING: ----- He hates himself for the way he feels for his sister. He knows it’s wrong and tries to deny them. Turns of wanting her and hating himself for it have caused him to only feel loathesome towards himself. He doesn’t see any redeeming qualities in himself anymore because he’s so filled with disgust.

The Magic Touch: He still does drugs when he can get them, though he needs higher doses for them to give him the numbing feeling that he wants so badly.

* 2562-2565, 0-3 Kayn is born to a drudge and a whore during the 9th Pass at Tillek Hold. His father could be any number of people who were at the Hold around this time, especially as other fallen Holds begin to disperse its people among remaining northern Holds, including Tillek. His mother, Kalean, was angry and disappointed when she learned she was with child, because the baby was taking any of the nutrients and food she was able to scavenge for herself. Being pregnant not only became a burden on her body, but it also got in the way of work. If she could have aborted him, she would have, and she instantly rejected him once he was born. It was other mothers and drudges who convinced her to feed the baby and helped care for him as an infant.

* 2566, 4 It took Turns for Aldrekayn to learn what rejection meant, even as his mother wanted little to nothing to do with him when he was little. He still tried for her attention, doing anything from attempts at being good and helpful to causing trouble. Kalean hadn’t even realized she was pregnant with another child before Remira was born. Her body had become so thin, that there hadn’t been any noticeable bump and any physical signs had been chalked up to malnutrition. Similar to Kayn, she gave Remira the bare minimum attention of feedings and ignored her for everything else. Even as Kalean yelled and cursed at them, Aldrekayn did everything he could to gain her affection. After the few months of feeding stopped and Kalean ignored them both completely, the other female drudges taught Kayn how to care for Remira. The infant’s easy laughter and smiles were unlike anything Kayn had seen before and he instantly fell in love with them. He did his best to keep Remira smiling and happy and she became the center of his world.

* 2569, 7 As much as he would have liked to continue caring for and playing with his sister, he recognized that they were both getting hungry. Some of the other drudges has been kind enough to share their helpings when he’d been younger, but more people from other Holds had recently joined Tillek and the food was becoming even more scarce for drudges. Kayn began by stealing food as much as he could on his own—anything from scraps left over from dinner to anything sitting out in the kitchens or even in personal rooms. He would feed almost everything he got to his sister in an effort to keep her from ever feeling too hungry. Even by stealing as much as he could, it wasn’t enough. Kayn decides to join one of the small gangs in Tillek Hold in order to get access to more food and more material items like clothing, jewelry, and weapons. The gang has him start with stealing, much to his disappointment, which doesn’t reap much more rewards than when he’d done it solo.

* 2570, 8 Even though his focus had shifted to Remira, Kayn still made small attempts at winning their mother’s love with bits of food or material items. Anytime he approached her, she gave him a look of disgust. So instead, he’d leave the gifts for her on her usual sleeping cot and then wait in hiding to see her reaction. She would take what he gave to her, then, but not once did he see any sign of happiness from the gifts. Eventually, he stops leaving the gifts. A few months later she dies of being ill. Her malnutrition and lack of strength from being constantly hungry made her susceptible to the sicknesses that were spreading around the Hold with so many people and so few resources. Kayn spends some time thinking to himself that it’s his fault she died because he’d stopped providing her with the gifts. He becomes even more protective of Remira in keeping her fed, warm, and happy with trinkets. Kayn requests more responsibilities from the gang to get more of the share of their profits. He’s done so well with stealing that they also allow him to act as a messenger boy and delivery boy for their drug trafficking.

* 2571, 9 Kayn soaks up knowledge and experience from the gang like a sponge. Anything they are willing to show him, he picks up. After being attacked for delivering a message, Kayn is left with a bloody lip, bruises all over, and a broken finger. When he returns to report back to the gang, instead of crying, the boy is grinning from ear to ear. It was his first fight and, even though he only got in a couple hits, the adrenaline of the fight felt really good compared with the monotony of days. The gang leader sees potential in him and teaches him how to fight. Kayn learns quickly how to become a scrappy fighter and use not only his own body as a weapon, but any surrounding items that will give him an edge. He learns that there’s no such thing as honesty in a fight. It’s win or lose and losing could very well mean the end of his life. He convinces himself that he must win by any means necessary. After a few months, he’s promoted again within the gang to help guard their turf or by going with other gang members to people who may owe them money. Then, all of the residents of Tillek Hold are relocated to Fort Hold. His gang is unfamiliar with the area or people and struggles to claim any turf.

* 2573, 11 After two Turns, the gang was only able to claim a single small area as their territory. Even so, Kayn works hard to do anything that will help strengthen the gang’s reputation and get them more profit. He becomes known as the head enforcer of their gang because he enjoys it so much. When the rewards for being part of the gang aren’t doing enough for him and Remira, he starts to whore on the side. He offers himself to others and will do just about anything in order to get food, clothing, a new blanket, jewelry, favors, or any material items that he can give to his sister. As the casualty count of the Pass increases, a few of the drudges try to convince Kayn to take a cot for his sister so they no longer have to share one. He refuses and feels that she’ll be warmer and safer with him.

* 2575, 13 As much as he tried to keep Remira out of the gang scene, she inevitably joins in order to increase their profits of food and goods (or to stay close to her big brother). Kayn is annoyed by the attentions the other gang members try to give her, and he finds himself consistently at odds with the other members in an attempt to keep her safe. After returning from a job one day, he can’t find his sister who said she would be waiting for him at a particular location. Kayn almost loses his mind in searching for her until he finds her cornered by one of the gang members. The gang member is in the middle of feeling her up and about to force himself on her when Kayn snaps. He loses himself in the attack, torturing the other male to exact what he felt was a necessary revenge before beating the life out of him. It takes Remira crying and pulling him off of the guy before he realizes that he’s dead. While the rest of the Hold brushes the death off as gang violence among drudges—and hardly worth worrying about—Kayn makes sure the remaining gang members understand that is the price they will pay if anyone lays a finger on his sister.

* 2576, 14 After five Turns of being in Fort Hold, the gang has gained no additional turf or respect from the other gangs. They flatline in progress, and most of their work has been reduced to mere stealing and protecting their small stretch of territory that consists of a single tunnel. Kayn doesn’t particularly care about the status of the gang, but the struggle for him and Remira to remain fed and clothed in less ratty clothing makes him crave something better. He hears talks of other gang members being unhappy with their current situation and decides he could do better if he were in charge. Not only would leading the gang mean he could affect their status and profits, but it would also mean greater protection for Remira with her being the boss’s sister. He talks to a few gang members and, with their help, instigates a mutiny against their gang leader. He takes over as a the leader and immediately switches their focus from stealing back to drug trafficking.

* 2578, 16 The drug trafficking does well enough over a period of two Turns that Kayn is able to acquire a large enough room for a gambling den. It’s small in comparison to the other dens at the Hold, but he focuses primarily on gambling and drugs rather than on fights or whores. This provides an added income for the group, which Kayn uses to spoil his sister as much as possible. He finds out his sister had sex with a guy and Kayn finds him and beats him up. He tells Remira that the guy wasn’t good enough for her and she should look for better. He doesn’t see any of the guys in the gang or who hang around the den as suitable for Remira. He wants the best for her and thinks she deserves a good person who will take care of her rather than someone who deals in shady business. Even after telling her this, she suddenly begins to flirt with more guys who are even worse in order to get Kayn’s attention. He eventually tells her that he has to approve of the guy before she can sleep with him.

* 2578-2579, 16-17 During the time the gang runs the small gambling den, Kayn finds them being harassed constantly by corrupt Peacekeepers. At first, it seemed like they were doing their job in making everyone leave the den and punishing either himself or the gang for their actions. Then, they started trying to take any of their profits for the day or drugs that happened to be on hand. Eventually, some of the Peacekeepers were found playing cards or dice and gambling themselves, then threatening Kayn with punishments if they ended up losing. The dirty Peacekeepers started to blackmail him for drugs and goods. Even when he fought back, he’d only get in trouble further, which led him to learning to better control his composure no matter the circumstances.

* 2580, 18 By this Turn, Kayn realizes what he feels for Mira is more than just brotherly love. This realization is quickly followed by shame and guilt, because he knows it’s not right to have these feelings for a family member. He begins to hate himself for harboring a desire for her, and tries to push her away. He forces her to begin sleeping on her own cot or under her own separate blanket, even when she complains against it. If she’s extra pushy or begins to sulk, he’ll invite her back into his arms and convinces himself it’s only because she needs it. Kayn begins to sleep around a lot more to try and get his mind off of his sister. He thinks if he meets someone good enough, that he can forget about her in that way. Instead of curing him of his feelings, he finds himself imagining every girl he sleeps with as her. His self-loathing deepens with this so much that he starts to shut down all emotions in the hopes that if he can cut himself off from emotions entirely, he can stop feeling desire for her and hatred for himself. When that doesn’t work well enough, he resorts to drugs that erase his guilt and bring him the only real pleasure he can experience. The drugs help him to better fantasize being with Remira while also numbing his own self-hatred. During this time, Remira tells him that she wants to do more with her life than the gang and join the beastcrafters. Between her request and Kayn being fed up with the Peacekeepers’ corrupt use of power, he decides to become them. He’ll also be able to better provide for her as a Peacekeeper, which is what really decides him. Kayn forces a Peacekeeper who frequented his den to get him enrolled in training and tell him how to get a wher egg. He steals two, one for himself and one for Remira. Once he’s in and starts training, he hands over the gang to his second-in-command.

* 2581-2583, 19-21 Aldesk hatches and bonds instantly to Alderkayn. The feeling of bonding with the wher is surreal, to him, as he’d never expected to feel such…joy…and contentment with another. While he’s in training to be a Peacekeeper, Kayn vouches for Remira to beastcraft as a “parent” and Peacekeeper to get her in. They both train diligently in their new fields, although Kayn goes to Remira for help with some of his reading and writing assignments. He’s much slower in any of those assignments due to being a bit dyslexic, but in any physical tests or exercises with Aldesk, he excels. He and Aldesk become a great team during their training. Knowing how well Aldesk has his back, he feels better that he did get Remira a wher as well to look after her (not that he’d really questioned getting it for her when she’d asked). They are both moved into their own small cave to share rather than sleeping with the drudges once he starts Peacekeeper training and she begins to train with the beastcrafters.

* 2584, 22 Time after training had him alternating between squadrons for experience until he’s officially assigned to a squadron. Kayn follows suit quietly and without much comment in order to learn as quickly as possible. He’s annoyed when he feels the power of the Peacekeepers have waned since he began training with them, which had been one of the reasons he joined in the first place. The importance of the Peacekeepers doesn’t seem to hold up as strongly, which leads Kayn to keep ties with old gang for drugs and gambling just in case.

* 2585, 23 Kayn hears about one of the head Peacekeepers being unsatisfied with their current declining situation and that he’s collecting a group under him. Eager for greater opportunities for him to provide for his sister what he’d originally been hoping for, he joins Notkerric. To offer his best support, he stops using drugs as frequently, though still requires it at times when either his own self-loathing becomes too much to handle or he goes through withdrawals.

* 2587, 25 Everyone is forced to move south to Fort Island and Southern Winds Weyr. He’s demoted from his status as a Peacekeeper and told to return to manual labor to earn his keep there. The holders and crafters are suddenly shifted under direct Weyr rule, which frustrates Kayn as he feels he’s fallen back to square one. Their strange way of life and looseness between lovers and lack of clothing makes him hover a bit more over Remira again. He considers returning to his old gang, if they are still around, but decides instead to stay with Notkerric when he learns the man is working to reestablish control over the holder caves. Kayn believes that remaining with an ambitious and hard man like Notkerric will lead him to better things in the long run. To keep busy, he chooses to work as a wher butcher and also use it as a chance to keep his skills sharp. The hatching of mutated dragon colors means nothing to Kayn. He hears it in passing, and just as quickly the words and meaning are gone from his thoughts.

* 2589, 27 Even though the dragonriders and weyrfolk are in an uproar about S’bok flying the Senior Gold, life doesn’t change that much for him or Remira. The young Weyrleader is just as annoying as the others in how they try to limit the holders to what they can and cannot do. He ends up being invited by Notkerric into his inner circle due to his loyalty and willingness to do anything that's asked of him. Since he's new to this select group, he's working hard to continue to prove himself. This is the first step in a good direction since the move the Fort Island. Kayn is eager for the new Hold to be finished so he can get Remira clear of the flighty dragonriders and because there’s a chance his role might be re-instated at the Hold.

The Den was busier than usual tonight.

Kayn watched as gang members and patrons alike crowded in the tight cave, oblivious to the fact that this particular gambling den wasn’t meant for so many people here at once. There were a few other dens here at Fort Hold that had existed prior to him becoming an established gang leader and which had far more room and even the added incentive of whores and a private tunnel of rooms. His den was less comparable in size or whores, yet he drew the customers in nonetheless. His lure came with a hook that made it nearly impossible to escape from: drugs.

He sat back in his seat with one leg crossed over the other and his head leaning on the hand perched on the chair’s arm, passively taking in the scene around him. The men who’d come here for a high were particularly loud and arrogant as the drugs in their system gave them imaginary and overwhelming confidence. They were fools who were easily swayed by the effects of the drugs. The men carelessly wagered anything they had on them—or even favors and deeds—as they gambled using anything from cards to dice. Kayn watched dispassionately as one of the patrons smacked the rump of a serving girl as she passed and made lewd gestures towards her.

The noise and crowdedness was causing an annoying pressure to build in his head. His expression gave nothing away of his pain as he waited. Waited for the sweet release that was coming.

Finally, it came. It hit him all at once, the heat spreading through his veins like wildfire and simultaneously relaxing his muscles until they felt thick and heavy. His breathing slowed and, as if somehow connected, the movements and activity around him also decelerated. The din of before was like a muted buzzing in his ears and nothing more. Everything melded together so that it would take strict focus to be able to register actual words among the molasses of sound.

Though he couldn’t make out any words, he still looked on instinct in the direction of a woman sitting at a table a few feet from him. Her hand was moving in slow, languid strokes along the thigh of the man sitting next to her. She leaned forward to whisper something in his ear before the man began to grin wildly and shoved the rest of his marks to the center of the table.

Her head turned slightly to look back at Kayn, smiling mischievously towards him even as her hands continued to play with the obviously aroused patron. The fierce hunger that hit Kayn when she looked his way made his own hardened member press fervently against his pants. Fortunately, he was seated in such a way that no one would notice unless they chose to sit on his lap. It was his usual response to her, and apparently something that nettlesap wouldn’t diminish. However, it was the lack of anything following that desire that made him enjoy this high.

There was nothing beyond the pleasure of watching her. Of wanting her. He felt no fear, no anxiety, and none of the self-loathing that he usually felt. He was free to enjoy her without guilt.

He wasn’t paying attention to the table where she sat, so when they all suddenly stood, it took him a few slow heartbeats to decide to listen to what they were saying.

“---look like you can handle it.”

“I’d love to, boys, but you’ll have to get permission from Big Brother if you can borrow me.” She turned to look at Kayn, and the two males’ gazes followed suit.

Kayn gave them both once-overs with a look of clear disinterest before he rose from his chair. The air around him felt heavy too, he thought, as he slowly moved his heavy body through the thick atmosphere. Her wrist felt cold as ice compared to the heat of his skin when his hand clamped down. “Let’s go, Mira,” he spoke softly.

Her body leaned into his and obediently followed. “Were they not good enough for your cute sister? They just lost a bunch of their marks to us, so I thought it was the least I could do to cheer them up.”

“No,” he answered simply. His hand that gripped her wrist tingled at the contact. It gave him a fuzzy, warm feeling that made his head spin.

“Okay,” she responded without fuss. “There was another guy—”

Her words were cut short when he turned on her. His imposing frame towered over her and she took an involuntary step backwards and fell back against the stone wall. Kayn reached towards her. To her credit, she didn’t flinch at his touch. His fingers wrapped behind the tight and decorated chestwrap that she’d worn tonight, settling purposefully between her breasts as his heavy muscles threatened to drag the wrap down. “No more guys tonight, Mira.”

Shards, did he want to peel the wrap off of her. He wanted to feel her soft skin on his fingertips. And then he wanted to taste her. Every bit of her. He wanted to put a mark on her that would last forever and stake his claim for others to see.

“Are you jealous, Kayn?”

Fuck, yes. So much so that it was taking everything in him not to bring them back to their room that they shared and tie her up. “I don’t like the crowd tonight.”

Her sigh of disappointment was loud, even to his muted hearing. “Fine. You’re so overprotective.”

His fingers tugged at the chestwrap, jerking her body towards him as his other hand gently grasped a handful of her hair and lightly tilted her head. Kayn’s mouth latched on to the side of her neck, his lips and teeth making a vacuum as he sucked and then licked that very spot. He felt like he was floating. He was disconnected from the world and all the consequences that came with it. There was nothing shameful about his feelings towards his sister and no reason to hate himself. There was only a sense of peace and assuredness as he created a hickey on his little sister’s neck. He released her and stepped back. “Now you can go back.” Hopefully the mark would deter other males from thinking she was available tonight.

Remira touched the mark on her neck and looked at him with an expression that he couldn’t think clearly enough to understand before she softly spoke. “Sometimes, you’re entirely unfair, big brother.” She turned on her heel and stalked back towards the den, leaving Kayn standing there in a mix of euphoria and confusion.

The egg was on the larger side of its brothers and sisters, and had such a dark shade that the egg looked dirty and unwashed. It had a large fold at the top of the egg, and was otherwise far smoother than its siblings and their wrinkles.

General Appearance...

Aldresk was born of awkward proportions. The wher was long and wide in comparison to his stunted height, which made him look a bit goofy from a distance. Up close though, his sheer size and bulk were nothing to laugh at. Even as he grew older, the proportions of his height to length never really evened out. You can still tell that something is a bit off when he’s further away and you’re staring at his profile. Now that he’s full grown, his muscles and bulk have completely filled in and any comments about his height are usually kept quiet because he looks like he can easily bulldoze through even a stone wall.

Aldresk is a dark, grungy-looking bronze, as if his hide has been living in the drudges quarters for a few Turns. Looking at it makes you feel like if he only had a good scrubbing, there might be some bright and cheerful shades underneath.

Personality...

Empathetic: Aldresk is firm like a rock. His mind presence for Kayn is so steady, that even if he feels like he’s drowning in self-loathing, all he needs to do is reach out to the bronze wher and grab onto that stability and it will keep his head above water. While being firm, Aldresk is also a bit softer in his emotions than Kayn. He hasn’t locked down on them as his bonded has, and will show his care or anger far more to others who Kayn may interact with.

Likes:
Remira: She’s always around Kayn and even though she makes his bonded uncomfortable and dislike himself, the feeling of love, comfort, and desire far outweigh anything else in his mind. So therefore, she must make him happy above all else and she must be taken care of.

Fighting: Aldresk will do any job that’s given to him, but he prefers to fight over anything. He finally gets to put his large size and bulk to use and he feels he is being most useful to Kayn when he fights rather than his bonded having to fight.

Eating: Food is good. Having a full stomach is the best feeling, especially when it makes him sleepy. Because then he has the best sleep. And he dreams about food. Aldresk is an eating machine and will eat almost anything…even if it’s technically not supposed to be edible.

Dislikes:
Baths: The bronze where doesn’t like getting wet in general. He’s so big and heavy that he’s slipped on multiple occasions on wet, stone floor. And although oiling feels nice to get rid of the itching feeling, the bathing part beforehand is annoying and he often makes this task difficult for Kayn to do.

Intoxicants: Aldresk doesn’t like how his bonded feels when he’s high or drunk. The sudden change in mood that is so different from the Kayn he is used to confuses him. He’ll likely become concerned or try to find Remira to get his bonded fixed.

Strengths:

* STEADFAST : Aldresk has a very solid mental core that keeps him from being concerned about almost anything. He doesn’t seem to have any moral code in him, which makes it easier for him to not be bothered by judgements of others which his bonded seems so concerned with. To Aldresk, life is simple. He likes who he likes. He doesn’t like who he doesn’t like. And he attacks without mercy those who threaten Kayn or Remira or those whom he’s been tasked to fight.

* BRUTAL : When Aldresk is in attack mode, it’s like any sort of decency or fucks are thrown out the window. There’s no limit to what he will do or who he will attack. Nothing and no one is off limits to him other than Kayn and Remira. He’ll attack like a raging bull, destroying anything in his path until either Kayn calls him off or his opponent stops moving.

Weaknesses:

* UN-PROPORTIONED : During his growth phase, Aldresk learned how to manage his odd proportions enough to keep him in control of his body’s movements. Even so, the proportions can sometimes put him at a disadvantage against others because of his lower profile against other bronzes or off-putting weight imbalance. This is why he tends to lean more heavily on brute force in fights rather than any sort of strategy.

* LIMITED MENTAL CAPACITY : Aldresk is very simple. The world is black and white to him to make things easier to understand, because gray areas would make this big guy very confused. He can’t follow detailed instructions or consider ulterior options. If he is given an instruction, then he will carry it out. If it becomes difficult to carry out that task, he can’t think outside of the box to make it happen easier. He’ll continue plowing forward with a single-minded focus until either his job is done or he’s physically no longer able to move on.

Red - Khary is very outspoken and stands apart from the crowd. She wouldn't be satisfied with a 'simple' green or blue dragon that makes her feel like she's being lumped in with everyone else. She doesn't like Golds and thinks they are bitchy. She also thinks of the Reds as her perfect counterpart--red like fire and (so far) small enough that she thinks they'll be quick, like her in her stealing days.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Khary has rich, brown hair with natural loose waves. She alternates between lopping it off midway down her neck and letting it grow long. Usually after her hair has grown out, she'll impulsively give herself a haircut when she's in the moment and can't think of something else to do. When she can think of other things, her hair may stay long for a time, but inevitably, she will end up hacking away at it with a knife. When it is short, you can tell she cut it herself because the ends always turn out a big shaggy and uneven. Her eyes are a pale blue with a dark ring around the iris. Her clothing is typically scraggly at best. She wore anything that drudges would be given, regardless of the size or fit of it. More often, she found herself designing her own clothes by taking the over-sized handouts and cutting and tying the strips in different ways to make the clothes better fit her. Even when she was given a nicer set of clothing once, she still ended up cutting it up and redesigning it out of habit.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: This was an extremely difficult time for Khary in her position as an orphan and drudge. She was almost always in a state of constant hunger. Her body clung to the nutrients and even fat of any food she could scavenge. She was familiar with death at a young age with the casualties of Thread, but mostly from malnutrition, disease, and fighting among the low ranks of the Hold. There were many around her who became so depressed that they gave up on life. She was afraid of ever reaching that breaking point herself and devoted her life to not giving in to sadness and finding some spark of life and hope--usually through laughing or, ironically, life-threatening challenges. With the drama between the Holders and Riders, Khary didn't side with anyone. To her, they were bickering over something stupid instead of just getting to the point of the problem and fixing it.

Response to dragon color mutations: She doesn't see the big deal with the mutations or a black dragon as Weyrleader. Considering she spent very little of her life thinking about the dragonriders,
when she'd actually seen a Hatching for the first time, that was when the black dragon appeared.
So for her, it was as if they'd always been there. She has a particular interest in the Reds so far, mostly due to their color and size.

- Adventure: Anything fun or dangerous here applies. Whether it is something she is tasked to do that sounds fun or something that she randomly goes out and does herself.
- Feeling challenged: If something is too easy, she's bored with it. She wants to feel challenged in anything she does, otherwise, she could care less about it.
- Stealing: Even though she's had to stop (for the most part) since living at the Weyr and especially since being Searched, this was still her favorite thing to do. She's become a bit of a kleptomaniac, in this respect, and often finds herself snagging something entirely insignificant and slipping it into her pocket just to throw into her box of useless shit later.
- Anything or anyone who will make her laugh: She hates being around people who are sad, so she will stick around anywhere or anyone that makes her laugh.

- Sitting still: She can't sit still very long and will easily become impatient if forced to do so. She's not one to sit around and play cards or talk unless there's something fun or challenging involved.
- Thunder and lightning: This is her one and only irrational fear. When she was younger, she had played outside of the hold during a storm and forced her at-the-time friend to come with her on a dare. They danced in the field and mocked the lightning until it actually struck her friend. Terrified, she ran home and never spoke to anyone about it (also leaving her friend to die since she could have still been alive...).
- Being told what to do/authority figures: She always felt herself a free person while at the Hold. And even when in the gang, she knew she could just walk away and do something else if she wanted to, so she never felt tied down (they might have beaten the snot out of her or killed her, but let her think what she wants). Under the Weyr authority now, she feels like everyone is super uptight and it makes her want to rebel that much more.

Strengths: 5+ (list form and please give at least a bit of explanation to each)

* SCRAPPY/RESOURCEFUL: Kharismene didn't have much in life, so she learned how to make do with whatever was around her. This was primarily done through stealing, though she found other ways to get what she needed. When dealing with the gang, she always found a way to make herself useful to them. Even when they tried to push her down or make her quit, she kept fighting and proving herself.

* TOUGH: It takes a lot to break through the strong wall she's built up between herself and others to keep them at a distance. She never cries or lets herself be weak, even if she's by herself. In the more physical sense, she can hold her own in a fight. She's not a good fighter necessarily, but she's also not one to back down or give in even while she may be bleeding or injured.

* EASYGOING: Khary is easygoing only in the sense that she doesn't hold grudges. While she can get annoyed and pissed off in the moment, as soon as her mind is focused elsewhere, she's already either forgotten or stopped caring about it. Even if others don't like her due to something that has happened in the past, she would just shrug it off and walk away. She's not one to fight for friendships or others and certainly not one to care how others feel about her.

* POSITIVE: For the most part, she is a positive person. She doesn't focus on the negatives in life or wallow over something sad happening. There's been so much death and misfortune that she's witnessed in her life, that if she got upset every time something happened, she'd be chronically depressed. Instead, she focuses on something else that would be fun.

* SHAMELESS: So far, there has been nothing that can embarrass her (not for lack of trying by her partner in crime). She could care less about what anyone thinks of her, which is primarily why she's never embarrassed. Khary would have no problem strolling around in the nude or having sex in public. She's been reprimanded in front of others, made fun of, teased, pranks have been pulled on her, and none of them embarrassed her.

Weaknesses: 5+ (list form and please give at least a bit of explanation to each)

* IMPATIENT : She hates waiting for anything. If she has to sit around and wait for something, she'd  be that annoying person in the room with her arms crossed and her foot tapping the floor--uncaring how she may be annoying others. If she can, she'll usually just cut ahead or do it anyway without waiting in order to avoid this feeling.

* BRUTALLY HONEST: Khary has no filter. If she doesn't like someone or thinks they look funny, she'll say it without hesitation. There are times when it seems like she isn't thinking at all and her mouth just runs off on someone over who knows what. This can sometimes make her sound harsh to others, though she doesn't usually have any ill will behind her words. She thinks she's doing them a favor by being straight with them.

* INSOLENT: There were no strong adult figures for her as she grew up that she respected, so it's difficult for her to remember when she needs to hold her tongue. To most adults, she treats them with the same respect she'd give anyone else. She has no qualms of arguing back and holding her ground with figures of authority, though she had such little experience with authority back at Fort Hold that it had never really been an issue until now. Now that she's a candidate, she's been struggling with this since the only consequence that catches her attention right now is losing her spot as a candidate.

* LACKADAISICAL : When it comes to doing things she has no interest in--like chores, drudge work, a boring gang task, etc--Khary can be careless and inefficient. She will procrastinate doing it, and even while doing it she will take as long as possible and drag it out, as if someone might come in and take over for her if she bides her time.

* DENIAL: Her constant energy and fun attitude are sometimes forced, because she refuses to give in to anything sad. Even if something does bother her, she is more likely to lash out or force a smile onto her face than give in to feeling sad.

* FRIENDLESS: Khary's attitude of not caring what others think of her and not fighting for a friendship should something go wrong has left her without any good friends. There are those who she may talk to on occasion or do things with, but she doesn't have anyone that she feels she could depend on or lean on. Most of her old friendships ended either by them fighting over something, and Khary walking away and never looking back or trying to resolve the problem, or her friend was upset and sad about something and she, after trying briefly to turn the mood around and failing, walked away again because she didn't have time for being sad.

[There is one exception to this rule, who became her partner in crime at Fort Hold. They joined the gang together and almost always thieved and played pranks on others together. There have been times where Khary fought with him and walked away, but he always ending up pulling her back. He's just as brutally honest with her, and will constantly tell her when she's being a bitch or an idiot. This will strangely snap her out of whatever mood she's in and she'll chill out.]

Describe Yourself:

* OUTSPOKEN: ----- Kharismene is an outgoing, outspoken girl. She has no problem walking up to a stranger--be it a dragon rider, Master Crafter, Lord  Holder, or otherwise--and talking to them. When she does talk, she doesn't usually hold back. She almost always shares her opinion about something even if others weren't asking for it.

* STUBBORN: ----- When she sets her mind to something, Khary grabs on and doesn't let go. If she wants to do something, nothing and no one will stand in her way until she accomplishes her goal. It doesn't matter what she has to give up or do to get there.

* PLAYFUL: ----- Most of the time (when she's not being bull-headed or loud), Khary is the best sort of friend to have around when you want to have a good time. She loves to have fun and laugh among others.

* DAUNTLESS: ----- There is no challenge too difficult or scary for her. She is fearless in every sense of the word, and even finds life-risking challenges the most enjoyable. A bit of an adrenaline junkie, she'll volunteer herself for particularly dangerous tasks or just go do them herself for 'fun'.

* IMPULSIVE: ----- Just as there's barely any filter from brain to mouth, the same holds true with her actions. She never stops to think of the consequences of an action and will rush to do it. It takes a conscious effort for her to not immediately react to something as her first instinct is always to do what would be fun or accept any challenge made to her.

The Magic Touch: Even while in the gang scene, she never got into drugs or gambling. She was an excellent thief, though, and was known by some for her superior stealth.

Khary is easily jealous of any attentions he may give to others (male or female), which will usually cause her to pick a fight with him just so she can walk away and be done with him. As always, he sees right through the fight (even though he does fight back in the moment) and will go look for her a day or two later and talk to her as if there'd been no fight at all.

This is the perfect place for you to write out your character’s history. Dot points work out best. So list the important events in their life, a small description of what happened, and their emotional reaction to the event with no more than 5 turns between each event.

* 2575-2578, 0-3 The earliest Turns of Kharismene's life were standard for a child born from a kitchen worker. Her mother had cared for her in her infancy, often stealing food from the kitchens once she was old enough for solid food. If she had known her mother, she would have learned how much she meant to her during a time that was dark and dreary for everyone. Just before turning three, her mother passed away from a sickness that had afflicted her lungs. She was too young to understand what was happening, but the other workers and drudges around her had wept for her loss as she had been a sweet and caring woman.

* 2579-2582, 4-7 Other female drudges helped to raise her once her mother passed away. They always made sure to remind Khary how good her mother had been, and they always got sad when they talked about her. Seeing this, Khary became afraid of getting attached to anyone if their death would bring her sadness. People were dying every day, so why would she hurt herself like that? Because of this, her friendships were only surface level, and they were more of a way to pass the time and share experiences with than for anything else. When she's six Turns, she nags on her friend to go play out in the fields while there is a storm directly overhead. Kharismene just thinks this is fun and daring, but that nothing bad could actually come of it. While they are playing, her friend is struck by lightning and falls to the ground. Too terrified to stick around, Khary abandons her friend and runs back to the safety of the Hold without checking if she is alive or not (as a child, she assumes the other girl must be dead and doesn't even realize she could have survived). She doesn't even tell any adults what happened, for fear she'll be reprimanded for going out there in the first place.

She keeps away from other potential friends even more after this and does things by herself. One young boy notices this and decides to be her friend, even when she tries to push him away. She tries to be nasty to him, and he gives it right back to her. Eventually, she comes to accept his being around her and even waits to do fun things until he shows up. He becomes her partner in crime in any mischief or pranks throughout the Hold.

* 2583-2585, 8-10 Now that she's older, the other drudges and kitchen workers no longer help her with getting food. She gets picked on by a gang and in that (odd) moment, decides she wants to join. They seem to have a fun time, they look healthier or less hungry than those not in a gang, so why not? Khary convinces her friend to join with her, and they are accepted into the gang at the lowest rung: thievery. She gets a few tips from the others and takes off from there. Khary steals almost anything and everything she can. Clothes, food, jewelry, marks, you name it. She becomes so good that she'll even tuck things away in a secret hiding place just for herself while the rest of her spoils are divvied up among the gang.

She is even fortunate enough to have stumbled upon a flit egg. It wasn't among a clutch and had to have belonged to someone, but she steals it and keeps it for herself. This hatches her green flit, Snitch, who she falls in love with and immediately begins training to help be a lookout for when she's stealing. Her name had been something a bit nicer at one time, but when the green continued to rat her secret hiding places out to her partner in crime, she changed it to Snitch and stuck to it.

* 2586-2587, 11-12 Over the course of the next Turn, Khary and her partner in crime continue to steal things for the gang. Originally she had hoped to climb the ranks of the gang, but she had become so good at stealing and moving without a sound that even the gang leader recognized her as their top thief. She and her friend end up stealing flit eggs (again for herself, but the first time for him) since he'd been upset she hadn't gotten a flit egg for him the last time. She takes two this time from the clutch, and out hatch a bronze and a blue. The blue is sweet as can be--but a terrible thief and lookout--so she ends up having him act as a decoy if anything. The bronze was very difficult in the beginning. He was hard to train and harder still to get him to listen. He was always getting in the way, knocking things over, flying right through people, and wrecking things. He almost always left a mess wherever he went, and so he made stealing anything extremely difficult whenever he refused to leave her side.

When everyone is moved to Fort Island and Southern Winds Weyr, Khary feels completely lost and overwhelmed. There are no more gangs, strict enforcement by the Weyr leadership, and there's nothing left for her. She sticks close to her partner in crime and tries to wander and explore the Weyr and island whenever she can. She's often getting roped into some sort of drudgery work, but will always try to find a way to escape so she can climb some cliffs or explore the ocean. She sees a Hatching for the first time and thinks the dragons are amazing. This is the start of her and her friend talking about possibly becoming dragon riders. There's nothing for them as they are now, so it's either fight to join a Craft, hope to be Searched, or be unlucky and end up doing drudge work for the rest of their lives.

* 2588-2589, 13-14 Their dream came true for her friend first, and she's immediately mad that he's going off without her. They don't talk for a few weeks, but he eventually finds her during down time and their friendship is restored. She asks him hundreds of questions about being a candidate and what he's learning, though she can't help but feel envious of him. In her time alone while he's doing candidate things, Khary begins flirting and sleeping with any guy she meets that is able to take her mind off of not being Searched. These are typically guys who are willing to have fun and make her laugh, regardless of their status as holder, crafter, or rider.

She becomes pregnant with one of their children and ends up carrying it the full term. Her time while being pregnant is viewed differently by herself and her friend. She thought that everyone else seemed extra annoying or rude and he saw her as being overly snappy and bitchy about everything. Fortunately, she's back to herself after the child is born and she gives the baby over to the creche to raise. She never looks back or checks on the child because she's not interested in any other attachments.

While she's pregnant, her friend was given two flit eggs from a recent clutch and he shares one of them with her. It hatches and is a brown, completing her colorful faire of flits. Between the four of them, they keep her entertained and motivated, even while her friend isn't around. At the end of 2589 and before her 15th nameday, Khary is Searched. She is slower than almost all of the other candidates because she doesn't know how to read or write. She ends up spending extra time and lessons trying to catch up. As the terrible events of 2589 occur, Khary isn't phased by any of it. She didn't know anyone who died or got injured and, if anything, the hunter attacks only made her want to Impress more so she could be out there facing them herself.

She hated waiting.

The candidate tugged at the ends of her hair, recently cut short to keep out of the way while exploring tonight. It had been impulsive, as usual, but what better reason for her to keep these nightly expeditions going if not for making the haircut worthwhile?

Kharismene sighed and leaned back against one of the rocks on the the cliffs leading up to the ledge. It was well past the candidates' curfew, and hopefully past dragon bedtimes, which would leave the ledge open for enjoyment. The clouds from the day had already passed overhead, leaving nothing but a dark canvas and stars scattered about in varying shimmers and sparkles. She wanted to stretch out on the ledge and lay beneath them. Or reach out her hand as if she could grab one and bring it back. Maybe even do some dancing. It was such a perfect night, after all.

The bronze flit, who had been close to snoozing at her feet, suddenly stirred and crawled his large body up her leg and settled himself at her abdomen. Khary's arms wrapped themselves under him as an automatic reaction to him being there. Ravage snuggled against her, as if he could get even closer to her than this. Caper, the brown, merely stared down at the bronze from his perch wrapped around her neck and now comfortably fitting right under her hair when he'd normally entangle himself in it. The blue rested by her feet while Snitch was out scouting for her companion.

He had said he would be here, and Khary didn't doubt him. What annoyed her was that he was taking so sharding long. What else did he have to do? An image of her partner in crime climbing the first set of rocks sprung into her mind as Snitch flew overhead.

"Sorry, I'm late!"

Khary swung her head back toward the voice. Caper adjusted himself and dug into her shoulders a bit to hold his position. "What were you doing? Picking out an outfit to wear?" She teased, her lips curving into a sharp smile. But her eyes were aglow with excitement now that adventure was at hand. Before he could bother to respond--with something equally tart, she was sure--she pushed off of the rock and bounded toward him with two of her flits still in tow.

"Let's not waste any time. First one to reach the ledge gets to offload tomorrow's chores on the loser!"

General Appearance...

This flit is quite large, even in comparison with other bronzes. Khary always thought he would grow into his size mentally so he would be better coordinated and more fluid in his movements, but it never happened. He is a flying bull. If something is in his way, rather than try to maneuver himself around it, he will try to run right through it. He's a darker bronze color that can sometimes cause others to mistake him for a brown fire lizard, much to his annoyance. There are no bright or distinguishing marks, which makes it easy for him to disappear into the shadows as long as he sits still. 

Personality...

Mind Voice: Ravage's mind voice is loud and harsh, like grating metal. If he could talk, it would be full of run-on sentences at the highest level of energy. He can be entirely overwhelming if given the time of day.

-Kharismene: He is very attached to his bonded, and is not often without her. It takes a lot of explaining on her end to get him to stay put while she goes and does something else.

-Snuggles with Khary: He loves to be in her arms for 'snuggles'. This is his ultimate reward for doing anything. That and sleeping curled up next to her.

-Salt water: If he's going to get a bath, it has to be in a fresh water spring or lake. He hates the salt water of the ocean and refuses to even fly over it. He can be quite annoying if Khary ever ventures into the ocean where he can't follow.

Caper is a deep, chocolate brown over most of his body. The brown lightens to a medium brown just over the wings. He's a small to mid-size brown in comparison with other brown fire lizards.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Caper communicates more with images than emotions or sounds. He hardly ever vocalizes himself, and if he does it is usually so soft that it can be missed if you aren't expecting it. He's mastered sending the right images when needed to Khary, and has expanded on his job to use images of what he sees to communicate his opinions on things as well.

-Being put to work: Caper enjoys and prefers spending his time performing tasks given to him by Khary. Even though he was hatched after the move to Fort Island, Khary still trained him in stealth and stealing just in case the opportunity every came back.
-Playing hide and seek: He loves to play this game with anyone who will play with him. He'll play either way with him hiding or with him seeking.

Gyp is a light blue flit, with dark speckles that scatter across the top of his head and spread down his neck and out along the top of his wings. There is a thin scar at the base of his tail from a theft gone wrong and a knife that sliced him before he could get away. 

Personality...

Mind Voice: Gyp is a happy flit, and it shows in the tone of his trills and chirps. He is also very emotional and impresses how he feels on Khary all of the time. He prefers to communicate through emotions or vocalizations than images.

-Flying around/acrobatics: Gyp loves to fly through the air, dive, twist, and do all sorts of acrobatics just for fun.

-When Khary is angry or upset: He's at his most content when his bonded is having fun, even if it is dangerous fun, because he knows she is happy and he can be too. -Gold fire lizards and dragons: Any he's ever come into contact with have been mean or condescending to him as if he isn't good enough for them. This has put him off of Golds completely, and he'll go out of his way to avoid them whenever possible.

General Appearance...

Snitch is a vibrant green and it would be hard to pin down only one shade to describe her appearance. She is almost a gradient of greens, ranging from a very bright, light green all the way to a deep forest green. The darker shades appear more along the dips in her wings, and more noticeably, as a definitive stripe that runs from the top of her head, down her spine, and ending at the very tip of her tail. 

Personality...

Mind Voice: Snitch doesn't have a preferred method of communications and just chooses what best fits the moment. Whether it be trilling loudly, cooing softly, or sending images to her bonded or others, she makes sure her messages are conveyed to whomever she is sending them to. Her mind voice is surprisingly smooth and light, so even when trying to make a loud or annoying noise, the tone and pitch is just right that it doesn't nearly come across as annoying as it should.

-Honesty: Snitch appreciates honesty more than anything, but has come to understand that there are times when Khary has to be secretive. Even so, if Snitch doesn't agree with her bonded, she won't hesitate to rat her out to her close friend.

She's seen what some whers can and will do when they were back at the Hold and they are nasty creatures that she and her bonded should have nothing to do with.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Sal stands at just about six feet tall, perhaps an inch shy depending on the shoes or work boots he may be wearing. He has always had a solid build, even during the hard times with less food and the amount of alcohol he has consumed over time. It must be his genetics that have given him the firmness to his body and his training and fighting through the gang that complemented it with muscle. He isn't overly big or burly, and in fact he can be a bit misleading while wearing long sleeves to think he is an average joe shmoe. His muscles are tight and toned to his body and are only easily revealed when uncovered or during a fight. He keeps his hair short enough that it is difficult to grab, although there are times since being at the Weyr that he's let its length slide to maybe two inches long before he finally shortens it again. His face is shaved maybe once every week or so, and he tends to always have some scruff. He has few clothes and generally wears the same shirt and pants with boots day in and day out. Cold days will update his appearance with leather jacket similar to a rider's jacket. He has quite a few scars on his person through knife fights that scatter his body from legs, to torso, to back, to one on his right ear and one that intersects his right eyebrow.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: He considers himself a realist and that something like this was bound to happen, regardless of anything the dragonriders may or may not have done. In his mind, it is the strong who live and the weak who die. There were so many Weyrs and Holds and Halls that he half expected there to be some environmental event to cull the weak so that only the strong may survive and rebuild. Any weak persons who survived the 9th Pass, he determined, must have been protected by the strong and were lucky for that. 

Response to dragon color mutations: Sal could care less about who is Weyrleader or what color his dragon is. He has never been interested in rider affairs, and that didn't change when new colors hatched on the Sands. As long as they are still able to do what the other dragons do in burning Thread or taking down Hunters, then great.

Who are you...

Likes:
Knowledge: Ever since basic lessons as a child, he has loved learning about as much as possible. He decided that there is a lot more power in knowledge than in material things and has worked toward gaining more with almost every action he takes. He even set up some of his whores to gather information from their clients that the gang--or just he--could use against them as leverage or blackmail. He's not against a good old-fashioned beat down for those who owe them money, but sometimes the message comes across a bit clearer when going after someone that person cares about more than themselves. Another reason why he keeps his distance from others--to care about someone else means to allow others easy leverage over himself that could make him weak.

Organization: This can also mean cleanliness, but for the most part he needs things in his life to be organized. A messy plan, a messy implementation, a messy room...they all get on his nerves and he feels the obsessive need to correct it. His room is a perfect example of his organization. There are no frills in his room, just the exact things he needs and they are all in a specific place. His boots, for example, must be against the wall and lined up together perfectly.

Klah and alcohol: To him, those are his major food groups. He hardly ever drinks anything aside from those two items, and even better when together. Although it has become more difficult to obtain alcohol since the move to Fort Island, he's kept in contact with a brewer he had worked with at Fort Hold who has continued to provide him with his favored drink. He always says to himself that he is not an alcoholic and that he can stop drinking, yet somehow by the end of most nights, he has some form of alcohol--usually enough to lose himself in by the bottom of it.

Flits: They've shown him how useful they can be, which is why he ended up stealing two eggs so he could have some use out of them. Not only are they good at long distance communication or finding someone for him, but they are the perfect spies. They are fairly common, especially at Fort Hold when a majority of the populace migrated there, so it wouldn't be unexpected to see flits from time to time. No one would suspect foul play just by seeing a flit flying around or relaxing somewhere, especially if they guessed that their owner must be nearby. He and his brother began to use them within the gang for keeping an eye on their men, on clients, the whores, and even to communicate between the two of them.

Dislikes:
Sweet foods: He can't stand the taste of sweet, sugary foods like bubbly pies. They make his face twist in their unpleasantness, and he'll likely feel sick later in the day if he were to consume more than a bite.

Liars: Sal is a pretty upfront guy. If he doesn't like you, he'll say so. If he wants to manipulate someone into doing something, he'll be straight to the point about it. There is no trickery or underhandedness with him. Cut the bullshit and lets get straight to business of what he wants. When others lie to him, it ticks him off. It's annoying to have to get to the truth of something, which he plans on doing if he ever suspects a lie, and makes him even angrier than if he'd just been told the truth up front.

People: He doesn't like most people in general. Everyone he meets starts out at the bottom of a mental scale he has in his head. Everyone begins as a liar, dirty, selfish, or a fool. If he gets to know someone more through increased interactions, he'll adjust them on the mental scale and perhaps give them more allowances than he does to others, but never so much as to actually trust them. He believes that everyone is like him; out for themselves first.

Strengths:

* CONFIDENT : Despite what others may say about joining a gang, this actually is was helped him to build self-confidence. He'd been weak before joining a gang, both physically and emotionally. Joining the gang gave him physical confidence in his fighting ability, a purpose, and the strength to push himself once he began lessons and learned that he wanted to obtain as much knowledge and information as he could. His education and obsessiveness with learning gave him the intellectual confidence he needed on top of the physical.

* FIGHTER : His life has been full of fighting. Fighting with his father, his brother, his mother, gangs. He grew up learning how to dodge a punch and deal one back that will hit where it will hurt. Once he started harper lessons for basic education, he began to appreciate knowledge more than physical brutality, but he has never been able to shake his basic instinct to use his fists once words fail. He's learned how to take hits and keep getting back up from his gang to ensure that he never failed them. Any down time in the gang was spent fighting one another to make sure that everyone continued to get better. Even after he became the second in command of the gang, he continued to join in on these fights as a way to let out some of his anger at the world.

* DELIBERATE : The source of his confidence stems from him being meticulous in everything he does. No act is made without careful planning first. Once it is planned out and he knows in his mind that he will not lose, then he will act. When there is no time to plan and he is in the moment, his caution does tend to fly out the window and he lets instinct take over. This usually only occurs in daily encounters, of which he is less concerned with. He is deliberate only in premeditated endeavors.

* DEXTEROUS : He is quite skilled with his hands, and either one at that. Had he the opportunity to become a Harper, he would have been excellent at string instruments. He was born ambidextrous and he decided at a young age to make sure that anything he trained himself on one hand, he did with the other. This includes everything from fine motor skills and writing to fighting. A punch from his left hand will do just as much damage as one from his right. He's become quite nimble with his fingers, and stealing off of others' persons is a simple task for him.

* INTELLIGENT : He may not always put his best foot forward when speaking with others, but underneath that anger and rudeness, he is very smart. He picked up on reading and writing at an impressive learning speed during the standard harper education. He soaked up the knowledge he could from those lessons and even questioned things with the teacher after class in an attempt to understand and learn as much as he could. He appreciated these lessons far more than his peers, who didn't seem to understand that this was their only opportunity to make themselves stand on an equal level with the crafters or riders who received far more instruction. To keep up with his learning, he'll steal anything he can get his hands on--including written work by crafter students that they may have had to turn in.

Weaknesses:

* LONELY : This is something he would never admit, but at his core he is lonely. He has kept people at a distance his entire life, and he hates the family that isn't afraid to force themselves into his life. He craves a connection with someone who will understand him and has had similar hard times in their life.

* ALCOHOL : He does his best to avoid this when he's at his best, but finds himself returning again and again to the drink. He will always blame his father for this weakness rather than accept that it has become a strong part of his life. He drinks to escape his thoughts, to forget his past, present, and future, and to lose himself completely at the bottom of the bottle. This is a frequent problem for him, and his brother's particular distaste of his enjoyment in the drink has made him even more prone to turning toward it.

* TEMPER : It doesn't take much to set this man off. Being angry all the time tends to make it easy to light his fire. His temper usually involves a lot of yelling and getting hands-on with whomever incited it. He'll try to get himself under control, especially depending on if they work for him, which makes his temper hit fast and hard before he's already cooling down.

* BRAZEN : His confidence and lack of personal connections have led him to to be apathetic to the thoughts or opinions of others. He doesn't hold back what he thinks in a conversation, has no shame in yelling at someone at the top of his lungs in a room crowded of people, and if he's in the moment with a woman, he isn't about to stop just because there are people around. Why should he hold himself back for the feelings or opinions of people who don't give a damn about him and he could care less about?

* OBSESSIVE : There isn't much in his life to focus on, so when there is something at the center of his attention, he can become very tunnel-visioned and obsessive. His ultimate goal of ruining his brother and taking over the gang can sometimes make everything else--or everyone else--in the way fall to the background. The end justifies the means with him, and he won't stop. Once he is determined toward something, he'll think on it over and over again. It usually takes alcohol to give himself a break from his current obsession.

Describe Yourself:

* CONTROL FREAK: He has always needed to be in control of his work and life, which leads him to be organized, meticulous, and unforgiving when things do not go as he planned. Everything should work as he expects, people must act as he orders, and plans are to be carried out without mistakes. His mind is always running at miles per minute, going through lists of things to do, picturing a plan and possible variables that could interfere and how his plan will work to circumvent those variables, etc. This has lead to a serious case of insomnia, because he can never get his mind to quiet enough for him to actually get any sort of restful sleep.

* CALLOUS: His lack of love or care in his life has left him as a cold shell of who he could have been. He was hardly shown any compassion, and will therefore rarely give others any different consideration. He doesn't worry about others' feelings and will say exactly what he thinks about them without second thought. He enjoys looking for weaknesses in others and exploiting them whenever it will benefit him. 

* ANGRY: He has a permanent chip on his shoulder that he clings to. He is angry at the world for nearly everything that has happened in his life. Rather than take responsibility for some of it, he would rather blame everyone and everything else. This makes it easy for him to hate or be mean to others without any consideration for them. 

* DISLOYAL: The only loyalty he has is to himself. While he has pretended to be loyal to his brother, it is a farce. The only person he looks out for is himself at the end. Protect himself, and he'll never get hurt. Caring about others puts himself at risk along with them, and that isn't something he intends on doing. And while he puts a lot of time and effort into his work, he would drop it in a heartbeat if he needed to protect himself. The only side he is ever on is his own.

* MINIMALIST: Items and possessions don't mean much to him. They are just tools that can be used, stolen, or thrown away. They are short-term, and he doesn't worry himself over what he has or doesn't have. He is far more interested in the collection of information and knowledge. That is far more powerful and something that no one can steal or take away from him. If one were to see his room, he has the bare minimum of things, his clothes are the same day after day, and you'll also notice that anything he does have, is always in a specific spot (part of his control freak nature has him put everything in a specific location so a) everything has its own spot in a clean and organized manner and b) he'll know after a quick sweep of his room if anything is missing or has been moved--even just bumped).

The Magic Touch: Already mentioned that he is an alcoholic in denial, but otherwise does not do any drugs or the like.

* 2552-2557, 0-5 Sal was born to a simple kitchen worker and laborer at Fort Hold, where their position and influence among others was, in his father's opinion, even lower than the whores and thugs of the world. His father was obsessed with the idea that he and his family had to be strong and hold power if they were to survive the world. When he found himself at a standstill in life, he decided it was then his role to raise strong children who would surpass him in all things. By the time Sal was a couple Turns, his father had become a drunk who beat his mother anytime he saw weakness in his children. She, in turn, would beat on Sal and his older brother as a means of "making them stronger" so she could fulfill her role to her husband in "raising them right". Sal spent most of his early Turns crying and bruised, until he learned that crying caused even more discipline because it made his mother angry.

* 2559, 7 Sal goes to his older brother, Garren, for comfort but his brother makes fun of him and hits him. Eventually, Sal teaches himself how to suppress any tears or to say anything his family would consider 'weak'. This reduces the abuse, but his mother still found reasons to hit him, whether it be not cleaning up after himself or just because it had been awhile and she had to be sure he was still toughening up. His father tells him that all people are like metal. There are those who are weak or brittle and break under pressure and then there are those that are malleable and adapt to that pressure, allowing it to make them stronger. Sal accepts this way of thinking, even though he has come to hate spending any time with his family at the risk of physical or verbal abuse.

He begins the basic lessons provided at the Hold for children like him and he falls in love with learning. He soaks in everything he can and asks for more as much as he can. He believes that this will be his way of proving his strength to his family. He even considers the dream of apprenticing as a Miner or Harper and how proud his parents would be of him if he were to become a Master one day. This idea of power coming from knowledge rather than brute strength drives him to push himself in knowing everything he can.

Later in the Turn, his brother joins a gang and he tries to get Saleizo to join by bullying him into it with his new gang friends. Sal refuses, believing he can prove how strong he is by becoming a crafter, and the gang jumps him. He goes home and both of his parents yell at him for being weak and not joining the gang with his brother. At least in a gang you can earn respect or power over others. Heartbroken that he's consistently a disappointment to his parents, he reconsiders and barely survives initiation. He ends up bedridden for weeks, and for the first time his mother takes care of him and nurses him back to health. This is one of the most memorable moments in his life, though he knows better than to see it as anything more than a reward for doing as was expected of him.

* 2564, 12 One of the gang members steals some of Sal's belongings, including the cloth his mother had used when taking care of him five Turns prior that he kept as a precious memory. He picks a fight with the member he thinks did it in the heat of the moment. The other member is armed with a knife, and Sal spends most of the fight trying to dodge and defend himself from the knife. He ends up with multiple cuts on his arms, back, and chest, one across his ear, and the most noticeable scar today from this fight is a diagonal cut midway through his right eyebrow. Soon after the fight, his brother starts talking about taking over the gang from the current leader. At first, Sal thinks his brother is doing this as a way of protecting him and agrees to the mutiny plan. He later asks his brother if he is doing this for him and learns that it is because Garren was embarrassed by him for having things stolen then calling on a fight and losing. He explains that Sal made him and their whole family look bad, and him taking over as leader would prove his and their family's strength. Sal can't decide if his brother leading would be better or worse, but decides to help with the small remaining hope that his brother does care about him and just doesn't want to admit it for fear of appearing weak.

* 2566-69, 14-17 The mutiny takes two years to plan and prepare for. Once they have enough members on their side, he and Garren set up the gang leader for a trap to take him down. Sal hated the way they ganged up on him rather than just showing their numbers against him and letting him step down, but Garren explains that leaving the old gang leader around as a loose end left them vulnerable to revenge plots. This, Sal understands, and he accepts that it was a necessary action they had to take. His brother names him second in command, even though Sal isn't sure what exactly he needs to be doing in that role at the time. His brother initiates a sort of fight club within the gang to keep everyone strong and practiced with fighting. Sal joins in on the fight clubs so a repeat of the fight two Turns ago never happens again. He focuses on using only his body for any fights rather than relying on weapons that can be knocked away. Over three Turns of practice, he becomes an exceptional ambidextrous fighter that even his brother has vocalized his respect. He also picks up on the same drinking habit as his father, usually using it as his way to 'settle down' after a fight. He particularly likes the way it seems to help him forget his old dream of becoming a crafter or memories of his childhood and help turn his thoughts to nothingness.

* 2570, 18 By this point, he is fully comfortable as the gang's second in command and in making sure that tasks are carried out efficiently and effectively. It gets to the point where he feels like his brother has taken a back seat to everything and only steps in when there's something "fun" potentially going to happen, which typically involves some sort of violence. Sal notices that their membership has lessened more than it has grown over the Turns and decides to branch off of their usual activities and add management of whores to their list of services. He starts this up from scratch and personally searches for candidates. During this time, his brother finally takes a more active role as leader and ends up with a wher egg. Sal is annoyed his brother didn't think to get him one and says so, but his complaint is quickly brushed off.

* 2572, 20 The gang tries to coerce beastcrafters into providing them with animals as their own personal food supply to resell to others for a high price. Since the demand for good food, and particularly meat, was so high in this time, it made selling meat an extremely profitable business if they could get their own private supply. His brother becomes determined to make this deal happen, but he is immediately shot down by anyone in the beastcraft he tries to coerce. With talks going nowhere, they plan to steal a runner instead and cut out the middle man.

Sal joins the couple of members selected to complete this task to make sure everything goes according to his plan. His brother ends up mucking the entire plan up with his wher and a bloody mess is left in their wake. Sal is less upset about the mess and more annoyed with the overkill of both the guard and the runner that was left behind. It had been the plan to tie up loose ends and kill the sentry as well as leave behind a runner as a threat, but his brother and the wher had gone far beyond what had been necessary and it could have risked the entire plan.

Once the meat from the runner they stole runs out, they re-approach the crafters with the hope that they had understood the warning. Sal is surprised they say no again, even knowing what the gang was willing to do. They slip out again at night a sevenday later and are met with more guards. A fight ensues, forcing them to retreat. Sal returns his focus to the whore business, but his brother continues to try against those guarding the runners at night.

* 2577, 25 Sal comes across someone trying to sell or barter with some flit eggs. He follows the man and waits for the opportune moment to snatch two of them. He would have taken more if he could, but these two were the easiest and quickest to grab. He offers the second egg to his brother in the hopes that they can use the flits to communicate with one another and keep an eye on their members, but Garren refuses and says that his wher is all he needs. Saleizo decides to try and sell the second egg--since they have a decent value if sold to the right individuals, particularly those who enjoy this sort of thing for eating--but, the darned thing hatches before he is able to work out the best deal. He didn't realize how old the eggs were at the time of stealing them--not that he would have been able to tell the difference had he considered it--and so he wound up with two firelizards: bronze Slade and blue Byrd.

He trains them both to follow his instructions in delivering messages or reporting back to him on specific persons, which was a trying task and lead to so many failures that Sal doubted for a long while that they would actually be as useful as he'd hoped. Finally, Slade picked it up and proved his worth, which was a relief to Sal. Byrd got the hang of messages and the like, but he was terrible at remembering who was who and a lazy flit at that. He far preferred snuggling with Sal than doing any sort of work. Sal fought with the annoying blue's affections for a full Turn before finally giving in and just ignoring it. He didn't show any affection back, but he no longer tried to stop Byrd's actions either.

* 2578-32, 26-30 The next handful of Turns, he and his brother can't be seen in the same room without fighting over something. At the top of the list of fighting reasons is Sal's clear addiction to alcohol. Garren thinks of Sal as weak for giving into alcohol like their father had, but Sal argues that the alcohol hasn't affected his ability to manage his tasks within the gang and is therefore none of Garren's business. Even with drinking alcohol, Sal believes he's a better leader than his brother. He doesn't see himself as addicted, just that it is his drink of choice and partly because it helps him sleep at night. It's only when he's drinking that he doesn't feel the ache of loneliness and regret for his family life, now that he's met others and learned how their families support one another.

* 2584, 32 His father is working and trying to transport some material from one location back into the Hold. The dragonriders are out fighting Thread as usual, but some still fall through and he's scorched. He dies out in the field before he can make it back into the safety of the Hold. Neither Garren nor Sal are fazed by their father's death. In their eyes, as they'd been raised to believe, their father was weak and he was meant to die. The fact that he'd lived as long as he did was surprising to them.

* 2587-89, 36-38 Everyone is moved to Fort Island, and Sal feels like everything he'd worked toward is taken away from him. He and his brother are knocked off their ledge of power and stuck back among the weak at equal ground. Any attempt to revitalize a gang is swiftly knocked down by the power of the Weyr. Seeing this, Sal convinces his brother to not make any bold moves yet. If they are to survive and regain the power they had lost, they would have to have patience and move slowly. The first few months are the most difficult and he hardly remembers them as he has no alcohol to turn to in this difficult time. Finally, his contact from Fort Hold for alcohol is finally producing some stock again after everyone has settled in the new location, and he picks himself back up. Sal goes into general labor, both to keep himself in shape and to see what working in the Weyr might afford him. He keeps in contact with the whores that worked under him at Fort Hold. Anything he might receive, he ends up giving to one of them in the effort of solidifying their dependence on him. Some continue to work, though infrequently and for nothing more than a warm bed or small goods in return. Sal encourages this so there will continue to be a client-base in the future. Even between general labor and visiting or helping his whores where he can, he still finds too much free time on his hands.

* 2590, 38 The Mine Hall officially opens for residents to move in and Sal is in one of the first groups to move. Any chance to get out from under the Weyr's authority is a move he will make without a second thought. He convinces almost all of his whores to move with him, but leaves some behind to maintain some intel on the Weyr side of things. He and his brother begin to talk to the old gang members again to discuss picking up where they left off and claiming territory before other gangs try to do the same. With the Peacekeepers reformed again as well, it sets them back a bit in having to be more careful, but they are still moving forward.

RP Sample - 2570
The dining hall within Fort Hold was packed again, as it had been for the past few Turns. With Fort and Tillek Hold as the last remaining Holds, and a majority of the survivors ending up in Fort, it was like this every night. The room was overflowing with noise, stretching the din through adjacent corridors of stone that echoed and shared the unintelligible sound even further into the Hold.

But that wasn’t what bothered Saleizo. Background noise, no matter the decibel, was something that he’d grown so accustomed to between the Hold walls and with the gang that to not have enough noise made him uncomfortable. When he can’t hear anything at all, he can stop worrying about what may come and just deal with it when it does. When he can hear small, intermittent sounds that could be coming from a rival gang or someone with ill intent, he becomes overly tense and wary of his surroundings.

So rather than shut himself away to consider the next steps to his plan, he found himself leaning against a wall in the dining hall; keeping to the outskirts of the activity, but still well within almost deafening clamor.

He’d told his brother of his intention to add whoring to their gang’s list of services and, to no surprise of Sal, Garren had been all for it so long as Sal took point on managing it. His brother had done far less for the gang than his predecessor and was already trying to take the back seat and reap the benefits without the work. He should know better than that. Strength wasn’t something that you proved once and then you got to stay on top forever. You had to keep working at it and proving yourself over and over again.

Well, Sal wasn’t going to let the gang fail. All he needed to do was start finding some willing women. His eyes continued to scan the crowded room. It was impossible to see everyone from this vantage point, but it was a start. Sal raised the mug of klah and alcohol to his lips for another swig. There. A young, dark haired woman with a smile on her face that he could see easily winning clients over. The foot resting against the wall at his back pushed off and propelled him forward. He wound his way through the crowd, ignoring the cursing of someone he’d likely bumped, until he stood at her side.

Never one for pleasantries, Sal cut straight to the point. “You there,” he waited until he was sure he had her attention. “You interested in some work?”

General Appearance...

Slade fits in with the average size of bronze flits. He's neither exceptionally large nor small, but just right. His color is more of a "dirty" bronze and does not hold the glow or shine that some of the others have in the sunlight. His shading varies anywhere from a flat, dark bronze to varied bright areas along his spine and following the curvature of his wing structure, to a bright, mottled head.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Slade's communication with Sal or anyone else is very short and to the point. He sends images as his primary form of communication. He only makes noise to get someone's attention, and it is a short, loud, and rough squak, as if to show how infrequently his voice is used. His mind voice is just as sharp and rough should he send a one-word thought and tends to induce a wincing reaction from anyone he may share a singular thought with.

Likes:
A job to do: Slade is happiest when he is "working". He likes to go from place to place and report things back to Sal or to be given a specific task from Sal that he can go out and do. He wants to be busy and do things all day rather than feel like he is of no use.

Women: Perhaps this is because most of his time has been spent keeping an eye on Sal's whores, but he enjoys watching over women the most. They give him more attention, appreciate his protectiveness if a client is not behaving well enough, and always seem to be happy to see him even though they know he is reporting back to Sal.

Dislikes:
Sitting around: If there is nothing for Slade to do, he will give everything that moves an attitude. He can't stand the thought of taking a break or taking a nap. If Sal has nothing for him, then he will go out and search for things that may be of use for Sal to see or know about so he can still do something. He sleeps during the day--typically when the whores had the least amount of work happening and were asleep themselves--but doesn't need more than a few candlemarks before he is ready to go again.

Distressed women: Anytime a woman is shouting, crying, or seems afraid, Slade will intervene. It doesn't matter if she works for Sal or not, he has learned to pick up on the emotions of others and will fight for them.

Other flits: While this applies especially for Byrd, it also extends to all other fire lizards. He doesn't get along well with the others, as he sees himself as all that is needed. The others, in his eyes, are lazy good-for-nothings and do not deserve his attention. He will either ignore them or give a sound of annoyance should another flit try to communicate with him.

General Appearance...

Byrd is on the smaller side for a blue flit, which makes it easier for him to snuggle or wrap around someone without being too heavy or much of a hindrance. He's a dark, almost navy blue shade across his body, which then lightens with scattered specks along his wings.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Byrd has a very soft, soothing mind voice. It sounds like he's almost always on the verge of sleep, because it has a lulling effect to it. Even his emotions, when impressed on another, have been softened. So a happy noise will sound more like a hum of pleasure.

Likes:
Snuggling with Sal: Byrd's all-time favorite past time is getting some snuggling time in with Sal. His commitment to making this happen has paid off to the point where Sal will no longer shove him away, and he takes full advantage of that. He prefers to curl himself or his tail around Sal's neck and will press against him like a permanent scarf.

Sleeping: When he's not with Sal, he is likely sleeping somewhere. It doesn't matter where, he will sleep anywhere that's quiet.

Attention: He loves receiving attention from anyone or anything. Whether it be a person, dragon, flit, wher or another beast, he is happy to be noticed. It doesn't even matter if he is receiving poor attention, such as from Slade. Byrd will still be happy about it and seek more attention.

Dislikes:
Doing anything: When Slade is busy and Sal calls upon him to do something, he moves at a sloth-like pace to get it done. He hates doing things, but will if he must. He just takes his sweet time about doing it, and may even take a nap in the middle of the task if it takes long enough.

Loud noises: He will avoid loud areas whenever possible. Loud noises make him shrink down almost as if in pain from the sound. So anytime Sal is in the Weyr Hall (which is typically noisy) or even if Sal is in a shouting match with someone, Byrd will go off to find a quieter place to be. There is nothing and no one that can make him stay in a noisy location.

The rain/water: Byrd hates to get wet. Baths with him are a nightmare. This is the most movement Sal has ever seen from him is when he's trying to avoid getting wet. And rather than get loud and annoying like Slade might when he is unhappy with something, the blue makes an almost whimpering sound. On rainy days, which comes quite frequently on this island in certain seasons, Byrd refuses to go outside.
