Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
8.2590 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every 4 or 5 OOC days. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Klah and Long Nights [23.01.2590 // 10:45pm]
« on: September 20, 2015, 09:17:55 PM »
She had put the weyrlings to bed with ease tonight, which usually meant that tomorrow would be bad. That was the way things had played out in turns past. So while the assistant weyrlingmaster would rather be buried in her own furs next to T'lor, she couldn't bring herself to stop worrying about what the next dawn could bring.

Her own C'dus and the other weyrlings from Imyth's most recent clutch seemed to be doing fine. She tried to keep them busy and made sure to work with them, sensing that with the nature of the Hatching they might need a bit more coddling to begin with. Sure, she could see sense in the argument that she shouldn't give them any special treatment because of how cruel life had been. Rïne had seen plenty of cruelty in her life, between thread and desperate people, but she couldn't bring herself to let these dragonets and their riders face the same fate. It was too late for her, but this generation had a chance to seek a new life thanks to the sanctuary of the island.

She was determined to give them the skills to survive. Hiraeth rumbled approval in her mind, happy in the place her thoughts had strayed. Finch and Runner were curled around some of his ridges, basking in the warmth of her blue's hide while Novus and Prinna sat on her shoulders as she worked. She had adjusted to their extra weight long ago, now balancing them as easily as if they were extra limbs as she rifled through hides trying to find a certain report.

With Kalestath flown and another clutch on the way, she took a look at the list of Candidates she kept on her desk. Some of them she had Searched herself, and some looked promising. It was a habit she got into her first turn on the job, making sure she could greet the new weyrlings by name when they Impressed. She would review the list every fortnight or so, keeping it fresh in her mind.

Sipping klah, she cast the hide aside and leaned back in her chair, Prinna crawling down to her lap and Novus remaining on her shoulders. Idly scratching under her gold's chin, Rïne closed her eyes for just a brief moment before diving back into her papers.

Much of the Weyr had gone to sleep by now, including his own dragon, but J'dan found he couldn't muster up the weariness required to go to bed yet. Even Tallorine had gone to bed after they'd been to the crèche together to visit their respective offspring, tired from the day's hunting and drills. Geradan was getting biiiig now, though not as big as Jaysen yet, but it was way past both his kid's bedtimes.

Initially, he'd taken his leave of Tallorine and gone to find some other pretty girl who may take a tumble in the furs but all the jungle ladies, who were usually so willing, were all as tired as his sister, and the one pretty little holder bird he'd managed to charm had cut him off at the door to his Weyr. Looking back on it, he supposed it was quite funny that a girl had walked him home and then respectfully left with his virtue intact. Cheeky bitch.

Thunder was off wooing a gold, with seemingly much more success than his human was having, which left him with little Buzz perched on his shoulder, the pair of them pacing the Weyrbowl in the moonlight. This would just not do, he needed someone to talk to at least, he was already growing bored. He ducked into the first doorway he came across, and eventually passed the door to Isotarine's office. Would she still be up, and working for that matter? Knowing his mother, she probably would. There was no harm in trying.

Opening the door without bothering to knock first, he such his head through, a grin breaking out on his face when he was she was still in (if the door being openable wasn't clue enough). "Hello Mother," he said, stepping in and shutting the door again before waltzing over to her desk. "I've brought you a gift: a visit from your favourite son!" he said teasingly. "And a Buzz," he added, as the little blue jumped up and dropped clumsily onto her desk, looking up at Rine with his big doleful eyes and trilling for attention. J'dan idly reached out to push a paper back into place as the blue knocked it toward the edge of the desk. "So how are you today? How's little Conny-- err, C'dus. Sorry," he hastily corrected his mistake, frowning to himself, before brightening up again just as quickly. "So how're he and Tilioth doing?" His mother would know much better how his newly Impressed brother was doing than he would, or than C'dus would tell him himself - she was Assistant Weyrlingmaster after all. It was her job to know such things, even if it was her job as Mother to know that too.

Guiltily, A'ron made his way towards the Weyrling barracks, telling himself that he had been too busy tovisit before... but that was a lie. He had just....well, honestly he never quite knew how to act around Isotarine, if she was the mother he didn't truly have or the psycho aunt. Personally he hoped for the latter, yet knew she was practically the former. Why else would he actually ytake time away from his sleep to visit? If he was a haughty person, A'ron would have sniffed and declared it a sign of love, but he wasn't, merely a man who was desperate for contact even as he held himself away from it. And what better contact was there than Isotarine's gentleness?

He lifted his hand to knock on the door of her office, when a voice entirely not Isotarine's floated through. Wraith and Ghost picked upon his uneasiness, the darker Wraith merely laying his head back down on his paws to sleep. A'ron took a step back, lifting his hand to his shoulder to stroke Ghost's tiny head, his gaze on the door. He should go, she was probably still busy... a weyrling, perhaps? Maybe it was C'dus, it wouldn't surprise him, even when he was a weyrling he spent a few nights in her office.

Perhaps it would be best to leave, return tomorrow or the next day.

Prinna chirped and Rïne looked up as J'dan walked into the room. Novus burst into the air and whipped over to J'dan's open shoulder, chattering happily at the chunky blue. Suddenly Runner and Finch appeared in the office as well and it became a zoo of family and flits. Laughing, Rïne stood and wrapped her son up in a hug, happy that for once someone wasn't towering over her.

"I'm fine and they're doing as fine as expected," she replied, motioning for him to grab one of the chairs. "Klah? I think my pot is still hot." She walked over to a side table and felt the sides of the pot, deciding it was hot enough. Pouring an extra mug for him and refilling her own, she set it down on a clean patch of desk and went back to her own chair.

"Sorry about the mess," Rïne apologized, haphazardly stacking hides and moving them to the edge of the desk. Before she made another mess, she corked her ink bottle and set it and the quill on the floor where any accident wouldn't be as devastating.

"C'dus and Tilioth are well. Sleeping now, actually. As you and I should be. But they're adapting, as all new pairs do. D'zel and I are working very hard to help them overcome the hatching while giving them no special treatment. We don't want to harbor resentment among the other weyrlings." It was a careful balance they had to find, one made more difficult by the utter disaster that the Hatching had been. But they would move on, as they always had.

"Are you doing well? R'sin's not beating you too bad, is he?" Rïne teased, sipping her cup of klah and waving a flit away from her face. Prinna had squawked when she got up to greet J'dan but had settled comfortably on the back of her Iso's chair. The rest of the faire was still scattered around the small office, perched on whatever convenient spot they could find.

It was late and all the little ones were finally asleep. Even her three nephews her brother and sister had come in and riled up. She always enjoyed with her younger siblings came in to visit their children, it gave her a chance to see them and say hi. J’dan and Tal looked tired and exhausted but she could tell by the look in her little brother’s eyes that he was not as ready for sleep as Tal was when they left. She wondered what mischief he would get into that night but it quickly fled her mind when one of the children woke up from a night mare. When she finally got the little girl back to sleep it was time for herself to find her own bed and she left the Creche.

As she walked through the halls she absent mindedly towards her own bedding she soon found herself not heading for her own room but rather towards the Weyrling barracks and her mother’s office. She was not at all sure what had made her go that way but she figured since she was almost there she might as well see if her mother was in the office working, which there was a good chance off.

As she got closer to the office she noticed the door was open and she could hear voices from within. A bright smile lit up her face at the sound of her young brother J’dan and her mother talking and the sounds of their flits. She slowly peeked in the door and chuckled at the site of her some of her family in one room .

”Mind if I join?” she asked and stepped into the room. She grinned at her younger brother and elbowed him gently and teased ”you may be the favorite son but I am the favorite child”. She chuckled and moved to give her mother a hug.

”Where is your side kick?” she asked J’dan. It was not often that people saw J’dan without Tal or Tal with out her brother. Over the years Albree had affectionately referred to the siblings as the Soul Twins.
She turned to her mother ”How are you mother? Up so late” she said gently and turned to make another cup of klah for herself.

Tal had not made it as far as her weyr before Little Girl was flitting about her head chirping, sending her images of J’dan with her mother in her office. She batted at the small green ”Come on LG, I’m tired… aren’t you tired?” she asked the little green but was already adjusting her course again to head towards her family.

She would have complained to Shyuth but the green dragon was already fast asleep on her ledge just outside their Weyr. \\Lucky\\ she said softly in her mind and batted once again at the overly excited flit that chattered about her head sending her emotions to hurry that she could be missing out on fun. ”then go on without me” said Tal and shoo’d her away once again. That was all the little green needed and she was gone between

Little Girl proofed into existence above the other and chattered in excitement to see her flit family. She continued to send images to her bonded that was slowly making her way towards the office that was holding so much commotion.

Finally, she reached the office and walked right on in. She smiled when she saw her older sister again in the room and moved to give Albree a hug. She turned to her brother and sighed. She gave him a knowing look and a shrug before pointing to the happily trilling flit that was nuzzling up to any of her siblings that would give her the time of day.

Tal walked to her mother and gave her a hug ”Figured I would join this party as well” she said with a chuckle and gestured at her sister who was getting herself a cup of klah ” Poor me a cup too?” she asked as she moved to perch on one of the arms of the extra chairs in the room.

"Oooh, yes," he said in response to the offer of klah, rubbing his hands together in anticipation. It wasn't exactly cold outside, but it was certainly cooler at night. He perched himself on the edge of the clear patch of desk that Isotarïne placed the mug down on, greeting Novus's arrival on his shoulder with a coo and a scratch even as Buzz thrummed happily to the bronze from the desk as he launched himself into the air to clumsily follow the progress of the others zipping rings around the room. The bumbling blue settled for circling the middle of the room, having no hope of keeping up with the others around the edge. He creeled happily as another green popped in, joining the fray.

J'dan nodded as his mother went on. "At least he's not getting himself into trouble yet," he said with a twinkle in his eye that would undoubtedly remind Rïne of the grey hairs that he and Brynioth's escapades as Weyrlings likely cost her.

He snorted. "Working us to the bone, as usu--'ello Albree!" he interrupted himself mid-word as his elder sister entered the room and elbowed him in the rib, giving her an equally gentle clout on the shoulder as she passed for her troubles.

He shrugged at her question. "I dunno. She's not my dragon, I don't keep mental tabs on her. Last I saw she was heading to bed. Though judging by her," he pointed at Little Girl who took the gesture as a signal to land on his hand and demand a cuddle, "she's not made it there yet. Hey Lil' Girl," he said, setting the green in his lap and stroking her tiny head. He glanced around to the doorway and, right on cue, in walked Tallorine.

"There she is!" he crowed, grinning widely at his sister but quickly affecting a look of innocence when she gave him that look. "What'd I do?"

"Albree!" Rïne exclaimed, jumping up from her chair. "Of course, of course, please come in." Giving her eldest daughter a tight hug, she moved back into the room to move a pile of rope off a stool so she could sit. "I see you've already found the klah," she said, winking. Thank Faranth she always kept extra mugs.

Another green flit joined the flurry of flying lizards and Prinna chirped again, lazily greeting the newcomer. "Well, Albree, Tal should be here any moment now," Rïne commented, motioning at the flurry of flits. Runner chattered at Little Girl from his perch on the wall, while Runner went over to J'dan's shoulder to take Novus' place. Nuzzling at the young man's face, he pushed an image of Thunder to his head, clearly wondering where the bronze was. Novus was flying circles around the room with Buzz, darting in and out of the smaller rings the blue was taking.

"Hey, Tal," Rïne greeted, secretly hoping that her klah pot wasn't too close to empty. She wasn't expecting three guests tonight. "J'dan, Tal, how are your little ones doing? I'm sure Albree could give us a full rundown of their daily activities, but I know you both care for yours."

How wonderful that her grandchildren could be raised by someone in her family. And her heart was so full right now! Three of her children here with her, the rest doing their best to provide for the weyr in some way or another, and plenty of grandchildren crowding the creche to be the next generation. Rïne certainly wouldn't complain about where she was in life right now.

Albree reached out and ruffled her younger brother’s hair just as he returned the affectionate physical sibling gesture. As she poured a small cup of klah, leaving enough for another cup or two. She laughed when J’dan spoke of Tal not being his dragon and having mental tabs and chuckled. ”Could have fooled me” she teased and sipped her Klah. She took the seat her mother cleared for her on a stool just as another little green to join the cacophony of fire lizards in the room. Albree chuckled as they horde welcomed another sister just as her own entered the room.

Albree smiled at her younger sister as she walked in the door. She hugged her sister and took another sip of her drink, watching her exchange a look with their brother who spoke in response and then move on to give their mother a hug.

She smiled at her sister that asked her to grab her a cup as she was refilling her own. She chuckled and found another cup and poured some of that dark delicious liquid within before passing it off to her perching sister and took her seat on the stool once again.

She blonde chuckled as their mother asked about her siblings babies and nodded her head ”It took almost an hour just to calm those little ones down after you left… they just love seeing their parents” she said with a soft look. She always felt lucky that she got to take care of her siblings children as well as her own.

Little Girl trilled happily when her human walked through the door to join the party. She sent emotions of love, excitement and joy as she sat in J’dan’s lap and soaked up the attention he was giving her. The green loved being around J’dan, he always made sure to give her some attention and new just how she liked to be scratched.

Tal just shook her head at her brother and smiled ”You’re spoiling her” she said with a soft laugh and sighed ”And someone must have told her this was a party” she said and looked at the small blue flit that was bumbling around with the rest of the flits. While she was not sure who sent out the family flit notice, she would have been surprised to find it someone other than J’dan’s blue or bronze.

Tal thanked her sister as she handed her the cup of coffee. The red head sipped the drink and closed her eyes with a sigh. ”Mmm no one makes Klah like you mom” she said and opened her eyes, smiling at her mother.

Tal chuckled at her sister’s words after her mother asked about the little ones. She took another sip of her drink and spoke ”Klohr is doing great. He wants to come Visit you and see Hiraeth” she chuckled softly ”While he loves Shyuth… he thinks blues are so much better” she chuckled again and took another sip of her Klah.

LG nuzzled in J’dan’s lap and began to hum her approval of attention and looked up at Tal as she adjusted herself. The green chirped softly before closing her little eyes and enjoyed the attention as long as it would last. ”Spoiled” she said to her green in a hushed tone.

M'dak was heading back to his rooms when Dallarth told him what was going on.

"An impromptu family gathering?"

Yes, it seems so. He replied with a slight tinge of humour in his mind voice. All the little flitters are excited to be together.

M'dak thought for a moment, looking up at Rudas who was sitting on his shoulder. "Do you want to go visit your clutch mates." Rudas simply looked at him, and M'dak got the feeling that he was thinking they would all be chattering away thoughtlessly, not the type of party he wanted to go to. But Rudas never wanted to hang out with fairs of other firelizards, so M'dak didn't really take his thoughts into account.

"Come on guys, it's family, we have a duty to socialise with them every once and a while."

They headed off towards his mothers room in the barracks, idly reminiscing on his Weyrling turns that were not too long ago.

I liked it in there, it was cozy.

"Yeah and messy." M'dak grimaced. He knocked on the door to his mothers room and pushed it open announcing to the room at large. "Family! I have arrived!"

"Well, if you're not coming to bed, I'll just stay up with yo-" T'lor entered the room but stopped mid-stride and mid-sentence. He did not expect to see his family all gathered in Rïne's office. He'd heard the ruckus from down the corridor, but figured that some of the weyrlings were not behaving as they should.

"Hello everyone," he said with a lopsided grin. He walked over to his weyrmate's desk and flopped his pair of gloves down before he started to unbutton his wherhide jacket. Olaryth and he had flown down to the Weyrling Barracks and it was till a little chilly out, especially at night. He leaned over and kissed Rïne on the top of the head, looking about and daring any of their children to be grossed out.

Afterwards, he moved to a free seat, dragged it over to be near his weyrmate, and flopped down in it. It squeaked with protest but it quickly faded away. "So, what did I miss?" He teased, "Or am I not privy to such a confidential meeting?" He grinned again and looked about his mostly grown children. It was good to get most everyone gathered up every once and a while.

“You’ll have to let him get a front row seat at this Turn’s clutching,” Isotarïne said to Tallorine, grinning. “But you know you’re more than welcome to come visit when you have downtime. I always have time for my children, biological or not.” She patted the pile of skins on her desk, records of the current weyrling class.

“M’dak! Come in!” she exclaimed, surprised. “Tal, you did say hi to your brother while you were down there, right? I know Terric is anxious to be Searched; it helps when you talk to him.” She looked at her second youngest son with a lovingly harsh glare. “You too, M’dak.”

Rïne looked up, even more surprised when T’lor walked in. Grinning, she tilted her head to accept his kiss and motioned for whoever was closest to the klah to pour him a cup. “You know that I’d never make a huge decision without out you,” she told him. She leaned out of her chair to plant a kiss on his lips, also daring their children to say anything.

She leaned back and cast a quick glance around the room, taking in the chaotic fire lizards darting around, J’dan loving on Tal’s flit, and the majority of her family around her. Nights like this were what she lived for.

"Of course I'll go say hi." As long as he didn't have to talk to anyone else while he was down there, saying one word to his brother was no problem at all.

"Uh gross, Mother." He gave his parents what they wanted. If they had just greeted each other with a kiss like they normally did, then he wouldn't have bothered. People kiss? Who cares? But they both looked so eager for someone to say something about it. He would sacrifice himself for the cause of making his parents happy.

He loved his family. But they were a lot sometimes. Even now, all of them crowded into the one room, was nice sure, but in a short amount of time, he new he'd be chafing to get outside and be by himself.

Albree chuckled as another sibling joined the fun and entered the room. She loved nights like this, when her family was all together, safe and sound in one place. There were not many people that could say that and she felt lucky.

When T'lor walked in she smiled up at the man that she had known as a father figure for most of her life. Unlike her younger siblings she had always found the love between her mother and step-father cute and inspiring; she only hoped her siblings found such love for themselves. When M'dak spoke of their parents showing affection she just laughed and shook her head, sipping at the drink in her hand.

She kept silent and watched as her family settled in around her and enjoyed having almost all of them around her.

Tal smiled and nodded her head ”Oh I think he would love that” she said when her mom mentioned to bring him front row at the next clutching. Klohr was determined to be a rider one day like her mother and his family. She smiled and sipped her klah as she patted the pile of skins on her desk. Her mother was like the mother to not just her and her siblings but also the Weyrlings. She felt it was what made her such an amazing Weyrlingmaster.

Tal smiled at her younger brother as he entered and watched as LG greeted his own brown but did not move far from J'dan. She moved her chair over enough to allow her brother to have room and to settle in with the rest of the group.

When her mother spoke again she nodded her head and smiled ”Yes, I just saw him yesterday” she said and looked over at M'dak when he spoke that he would visit him as well.

Just when she thought they were full another family member joined. Her father sauntered through the door and smiled up at her dad ”Hey dad” she said and watched as the man moved over to his love and kissed her before looking at them, daring any of them to say something. When M'dak spoke Tallorine laughed and nodded her head ”yes, yes... get a room” she teased as well and winked at her brother before sipping at her klah again.

T'lor looked about the room; all these people were his children, yes, even Albree, and he loved them dearly. Some were riders, others weyrfolk, some gave him grandchildren, others kept him young. He was a happy man. "Come on now, what were talking about?" He grinned again. "It was apparently important, as it kept my mate from joining me in our furs."

He accepted the mug of klah from whoever held it out for him. It's still warm, good, T'lor thought idly. "Come on, you brats, out with it already," he chuckled. His brats had brats of their own; that thought always amused him. There were two quiet pops as König and Fürst, bronze and brown fire-lizards, respectively, appeared from between, and circled the room once. They chirped at the other flits in the room, before taking off in a high speed chase around the office.

T'lor reached his arm around the back of Isotarïne's chair as he heard Olaryth speak to the other dragons outside. She greeted all of her rider's dragons first before finishing with her mate. What's kept you?, Olaryth asked, her lilting voice ending a downward tone. She had missed her blue's warmth on their ledge and wanted to sleep.
