Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

Both different mothers that saw Keron’s moody attitude as a challenge (they didn’t fix him but the babies are lovely)


Your Reflection...

Appearance:
Keron shares the looks of his father and this irks him to no end, he wears his long hair out unless he is working, to obscure the handsome features that remind him of the father that abandoned him. When he ties it back for work he uses a plain, supple leather thong and ties it into a high pony tail. His hair is always thoroughly caked in dirt (or has been since he joined the mining profession), as is the rest of him usually. Keron often wears dark coloured overalls (in deep blues and browns) as is indicative of his profession, and these are always filthy too. He does this not because he likes it (in fact his quarters are very neat and clean and he scrubs himself spotless every night) but because it annoys everyone else and they usually stay away from him because of the dirt and smell. His hands have low degree burn scars on them (from testing out new chemical mixes for the detonation devices) and a rather large burn mark on his back. This occurred in his most embarrassing blunder where he was attempting to make a delayed charge and mistimed the fuse (on the eve of his 13th turn). His nose is slightly crooked to the left from a fight when he was 16, and he remembers this fondly. However what he doesn’t remember fondly is the reason why he was fighting in the first place. Keron is a little touchy about his height. At 5’2” he isn’t tiny, but his broad shoulders and strong body make the disproportion quite obvious.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe:
For a child to grow up in the constant fall of thread is difficult to say the least. They don’t remember the peace of Pern before, they don’t remember the glory days of the dragon riders and they barely know what the colour green truly looks like. Until Southern Winds Weyr, of course. The constant crushing fear of the desolation of the other holds and weyrs, the massive death rates of dragons and whers, the failure and evacuation of the craft halls all happened (for the most part) before Keron was born. By the time he was old enough to understand, most people were contemplating the end of Pern in its entirety. He really doesn’t know anything else so his response is more along the lines of ‘you mean the catastrophe that is my ENTIRE LIFE?’

Response to dragon color mutations: Keron tries to stay out of weyr politics as much as possible. He honestly never wanted to be a rider after thread took his father so he’s never paid much attention to the riders themselves, or the dragons. He would probably have a grudging respect for the weyrleader if he ever really talked to him but otherwise all dragons and their riders are all the same to him: none of his business.


Who are you...

Likes:
* Baths at the end of a long day – Keron only likes being filthy when it is keeping other people away from him, when he is in his room he is pretty much safe so he likes scrubbing off the dirt and grime.
* Spending hours carving out murals into the walls of his room in the new craft hall – peace and serenity in the quiet and cool, nothing (other than Takonic) to get on his nerves or bore him with mindless chatter. This is where he finds his solace
* Testing new detonation devices and creating them from scratch – the challenge of creating and the thrill of success when they work drives Keron’s love for his chosen profession. It also wouldn’t be fun if it was easy. It is often when he fails too many times at this that he will secret himself away for some carving.
* Hiding miniature versions of these detonation devices to scare his enemies – he’s a little on the vengeful side
* Whers – because they are quiet and don’t expect him to go outside
Dislikes:
* Fruit – when they got to the new weyr people were practically force feeding him fruit and it’s far too strong a flavour for him
* People who expect him to talk a lot – he doesn’t really like people who talk a lot themselves but he prefers them over someone who expects him to talk
* Bright colours – just offensive to the eyes for him

Strengths:

* Manipulating Stone: When he taught himself to carve stone Keron had to learn the strengths and weaknesses of different rock types and how best to manipulate them. This has helped him in his mining hall craft work, specifically giving him better insight into safer and quicker methods of demolition.

* Artistic: His carving also helped give him an artist’s eye for architecture and actual art (although he doesn’t like people so it’s really a moot point)

* Strong Physically: His work in the mines has given him physical strength (although he mainly uses this for fighting so…)

* Ability to Take Orders: As he has had to do a variety of chores throughout the two weyrs he called home, he’s good at being given a short set of orders and he works out the best way to do things from there. This helps him in his mining apprenticeship too.

* Work with whers: Keron is on good terms with most whers he has met simply through mutual respect, he has worked with them through older miners and sporadically at Fort Weyr so he is proficient with most commands.

Weaknesses:

* Conversation: Due to his long period of withdrawal after the death of his parents, most extended conversations are tiresome and difficult for Keron. He finds far more solace in the quiet of underground and people keep asking him why. He can’t explain it so he’d rather just avoid the question (and most conversation in general) entirely.

* Rich foods: Keron has a sensitive stomach to say the least and any food that is spicy or bitter or citrusy will probably make him throw up.

* Water: Keron never learnt how to swim because he spent almost all his life inside where he was safe from thread and then underground.

* Meat pies: Keron loves meat pies (as long as they don’t have too many spices) it was in fact how he met the mother of his first child, she makes the best meat pies, he has to be civil to her now even though she doesn’t seem to understand he isn’t interested in another romp with her, simply because he still needs those pies.

* His children: Keron feels like his Father abandoned him by continuing on the flame crew after his mother died, knowing how dangerous it was and that Keron wouldn’t have anyone if he died. He doesn’t want to abandon his kids, so even though he isn’t very fond of people, he tries his best to see them often and be nice civil to their mothers.

Describe Yourself:

* Quiet: ----- Dislikes frivolous conversation and tries to avoid it at all time, he does make attempts but often gets old for him very quickly.

* Short tempered: ----- Although Keron doesn’t go out of his way to offend people (just enough for them to leave him alone) if someone pushes his buttons he is likely to snap and hit someone

* Vengeful: ----- If being short tempered and violent wasn’t enough, Keron doesn’t forgive easily and finds that perfecting his detonation timers is easier when he has someone to test them on. Not in lethal doses of course, but certainly enough to make them think twice about crossing him again

* Loyal: ----- Although Keron isn’t particularly easy to be around, he is loyal to those he thinks deserve it. He will protect his family and the mothers of his children, even if he doesn’t like them, and he would never abandon anyone who didn’t already betray him.

* Passionate: ----- Not in relationships but Keron is passionate about his profession. He loves his work and will seek out anything he can to make him to better, this makes him a good student in his apprenticeship and a bit of a perfectionist.

The Magic Touch: Keron usually carries around a couple of lumps of rock or clay in his top, center pocket of his overalls in case he gets angry but can’t let it out in the moment so he can carve to calm himself.

Education Details: He was a decent student before the death of his parents, after that he simply did enough to scrape by. The only real interest he has shown in his education is since he became apprenticed at the mine hall, which he has thrown himself into whole heartedly and is excelling in most areas. This in turn has also given him quite an interest in smithing, although not enough to trade halls.

Tell us a story...



* 2577BR/2578BR, 8 Death of his parents
Keron’s parents were hold folk (of Ierne Island) that had been displaced to Fort Weyr and had very little skills to find their place in the weyr. For his first 8 years of life the family kept close together working in the kitchens and cleaning crew at the weyr, but as more refugees arrived and more of the brave died, his family was pushed into a more dangerous position. There were still ground crews at Ford hold, using the flame throwers to burn out the thread on the ground, attempting to save the little fresh vegetation they had left. Keron’s father took a place on the ground crew in the turn of 2577 BR. That year, in the ninth month, his mother died in childbirth of his younger sister, who also perished, and the next year his father suffered fatal threadscore, leaving Keron alone.
After the loss of his family, Keron withdrew, allowing the hopelessness of the 9th Pass to consume him. Without the help and direction of his parents, he simply did as he was told and very little else.

* 2581BR, 12 Discovery of the architects tools
With the overcrowding of the weyr, and the relative uselessness of a drudge orphan (for there were so many like him now), Keron was pushed further into the deep parts of the weyr, the rooms who’s walls were still rough carved from the rock, that hadn’t been polished off because no one was to use them. It was here he found his solace. In a soft, brown, leather satchel, he found a selection of tools covered in dust and small rust stains.

It was obvious that they were for some sort of carving, but he didn’t know the particular uses for each tools. It took him hours/days/months/turns of testing, retesting, breaking, fixing, bleeding fingers to work out the uses of each tool. Then even longer to work out the intricacies of their workings in different types of stone. His love of the calmness and stability he found in the tools drew him to love the rock in turn, and his love for the rock was what lead him to his future choice in mining craft.
Which, coincidently, occurred with him being accepted as an apprentice in the fall of that year, and bonding with his three beautiful flitters.

* 2587, 18 Evacuation to Southern Winds Weyr
Eventually, the solace he found in the unpolished rock of Fort Weyr was taken from him too with the evacuation of the Northern and Southern continents. Now 18 turns in age, the child with not family or real friends, who only found solace in the cool of the underground was taken to a new weyr filled with greenery and colour. And people wanted him to celebrate, they told him this was the best thing to ever happen, they were finally free of threadfall, and the colour green was suddenly no longer a fable from the old stories. But what did it change for Keron? Nothing. Is it any wonder he shuns the weyrfolk and secrets himself away into the tunnels at any chance he gets?

* 2587, 18 The birth of his children
Keron never really wanted children, he feels his father abandoned him after the death of his mother by choosing to continue to put his life on the line instead of being there for his child, but life doesn’t always work out the way we planned and Keron has two beautiful children to two different women in the same year. One (the mother of his second child Karylin), absolutely hates him now (she didn’t have an easy pregnancy and blames all of Karylin’s kicking on his stubborn nature), but the first (the mother of his son Tanmpa) and he are still on good terms (though she is still trying to get him to marry her). He tries to visit them in the crèche as much as possible and tries to bring them (safe and non-edible) figurines to remind them of him when he’s hiding from the rest of the world. He also tries to clean up a little for them.

* 2589, 20 Official opening of the Mining Hall on Southern Winds
Although it’s a small victory, it’s still nice to be part of an officially recognised hall, and it means he gets his own room that he can carve to his heart’s content. A little more work with the land clearing and such, but it’s worth it to built up the honour of his profession, and hopefully he will be upgraded to a Journeyman soon. 
 

“For the final time Takonic, get your ass down from the shelf or I swear by your sister’s hide I will cook you and feed you to the whers.”

The unshielded glows cast a yellow light across the room, and gave it a soft calming feel. A beautiful queen flit lay curled up on the oversized cot, mainly because every other surface in the room held neatly organised equipment or stone figurines. There was a wall of different sized shelves on one side, and on the other a bed and desk sat under large open windows. The morning was cool and the air was sweet, and Keron was in a thoroughly terrible mood. As per usual.

A large blue flitter peaked his head over the corner of the tallest shelf, his eyes swirling with amusement, before making a high pitched clucking sound and once again disappearing out of sight. With a roar of rage Keron shoved the shelf to make it wobble precariously.

“You see this? This is why I never wanted a flitter! He’s your clutch mate, do something!” Keron thrust is accusing finger between the beautiful queen flitter lying on his bed and the shelf that was still teetering slowly. In dignified, patient grace, Kinabori lifted her head to fix him with a steely stare, sending him a brief mental image of her asleep in the early morning cool.

“No, you cannot go back to sleep. You are the queen and lady of this room and you have to control your damn blue brother.” At this moment a small green flit appeared back from between and with a brief look at the situation, decided it best to stay out of the argument, instead flying over to curl up inside Keron’s overall pocket. She crooned briefly to let him know she’d done her work for the morning, and it held the usual note of a flitter who wanted to return to bed.

“Why does every morning have to be like this?” All three flitters replied with a brief trill, which Keron had long ago figured out was a very sarcastic ‘we love you too.’

General Appearance...

She’s a light, soft, gold, like the glow of the morning sun, and her eyes have a darker shade around them. She isn’t overly large or small for a gold but is simply lithe and elegant as all queens should be.

Personality...

Mind Voice:
Kina has been trained to say the words ‘danger’ or ‘safe’ and ‘help’ if necessary, as she is a working flit for the mine hall. However under normal circumstances, Kina will try to avoid speaking words, instead sending images or emotions to Keron. She has certain places that mean certain things to her and her chosen, like the small overhang of rock at the beach, where her chosen first took her outside and carved her likeness under the overhang. When she sends this to Keron it means she wants to go out for a fly, not necessarily there but she simply wants to be outside. She also can send him a picture of his desk, showing him she wants to play a game, because he always makes the best firecrackers at his desk. Finally she can show him a picture of the first cave they ‘offically’ worked on for the mine hall, which means it is time to go to work.
Likes:
* Meat pies – Keron introduced them to her shortly after impression and she hasn’t found anything better since
* Sleeping on Keron’s pillow – usually while he’s there too. Keron often can sleep without any blankets or bedding at all (when he was at Fort he would stay out in the caverns too late and rather go back in and disturb peoples sleep he would just bring his pillow and sleep down there) this must have rubbed off at some point to his queen.
* Playing tag with her clutchmates – Because Kina is not an overly large queen, she finds she is agile enough to play properly
Dislikes:
* Being in the caves for too long - She’s a flit who needs fresh air most of the time, which is why she has a code with Keron for when she wants to go outside.
* Other Golds – isn’t that pretty standard?

General Appearance...

Small in size even for a green, Sparri is the colour of the deep sea after a storm. Her left wing has a notch in the tip of it from where she got caught in an explosion in a tunnel clearing, she also has a few skin scars from where she itched while she was growing. Keron did everything right and oiled her whenever she needed, but she would always get wet and wash it off then get itchy and scratch herself.

Personality...

Mind Voice:
Like her siblings, Sparri doesn’t like using words, though she does know those needed for work. She prefers pictures and even small ‘scenes’ like a brief vision of what actually happened. She usually likes to share things about her day with Keron just after they happen, so she’ll usually send him an image or scene just so he can share in her excitement.
Likes:
* The water – we don’t actually know why, it irks Keron to no end
* Sending messages – although her bigger blue brother is better at it, because Sparri is such a sweet flit, Keron prefers to send her to people so they don’t complain to him later about Tonic’s bad behaviour. Sparri understands how important her job is to Keron so people don’t make him sad so she likes being messenger.

Dislikes:
* Being itchy – back from her early turns when she (quite literally) scratched herself raw, she isn’t too much of a fan of anything that upsets her skin
* When Takonic sits on her by accident – he really is a big blue and she is a very small green

Takonic is a BIG blue, possibly because he simply has the big genes that neither of his clutch mates got or possibly because he likes stealing food. His hide is a darker shade of Navy and he never stops moving.

Personality...

Mind Voice:
Like his sisters, Takonic doesn’t like using words, he much prefers to make chittering noises that he knows his rider can’t understand but tries to, and he likes to send emotions. Unlike Sparri, whenever something interesting happens, Takonic doesn’t let Keron know by seeing it, he just sends a push of emotion his way instead. This is good because many of the emotions that Keron tries to ignore are the ones Takonic sends him.
The Blue of the family truly believes he’s a Bronze. He’s fast, agile, cocky and a attention seeker. It’s a good thing he’s cute, else Sparri might’ve killed him long ago..... (not literally)
Likes:
* Playing in the waves at the beach – the challenge, the daring, the excitement, the time to show off his epic flying skills (Did I mention he thinks he’s a bronze?)
* Female flitters – A real ladies man (honestly I don’t know where he gets it from)((maybe all the charm Keron doesn’t have got given to him))
* The top shelf where Keron can’t reach him to make him deliver a message – it’s always fun to needle Keron’s nerves and bonus if he doesn’t have to do work

Dislikes:
* Getting caught by a wave that’s too big for him and having Keron pull him out – How undignified!
* Delivering letters – Takonic has always found that if he is sent to deliver a message, they will see he is a large blue, that’s a trained worker flit, and will get him to do something else for them before he’s allowed to go back to Keron and sleep. If it was just one message he would be happy, but he always ends up doing more than that. He also manages to get himself in trouble every time, which means he has to work as punishment to fix that too.

Egg Description:
The surface of Kerosk's egg had an almost crimped appearance, like a piece of crumpled paper. While it didn't have a significantly large fold or ring at one end, it was as lumpy and bumpy as the wher that hatched from it.
Measurements:

General Appearance...

The majority of Kerosk's hide is a ruddy chestnut brown, almost bright enough to be closer to terra cotta in color. This is muted somewhat by large splashings of a much lighter color like he's been splattered with pale mud. The most prominent area of this is across his upper back, shoulders, neck, and onto his face. His wingsails are much darker, like deep walnut.

Kerosk is a typical wher in that he's big, bulky, muscled, and some might even say ugly. As large as a Brown can be, he's a monster of a creature, heavy and massive. But even as long and big as he is, he's shorter at the shoulder than the average watchwher his size. As a result, he has a rather distinctive disproportionate look to him comparable to a gargoyle.

Personality...

Empathetic: There's a certain abrasiveness to his mind, like rough stone or sandpaper. While not expressly uncomfortable to be in contact with, Kerosk will never be described as smooth. His communications are bound to be short and rather choppy, and he has no issues telling Keron when he's upset about something.

Likes:

Loud Noises : Because he can actually hear them, and in the best cases feel them through the stone or dirt under his feet. Keron's experimenting with explosives, or being near such things in the mines, will never faze him -- on the contrary, he finds the vibrations comforting.

Meat Pies : He has the same weakness for them that his handler does. And if Keron ever leaves any unattended, even for a moment, they are likely to mysteriously disappear.

Dislikes:

Waiting : He's not a very patient wher when not actively engaged in a task, so sitting around is the worst thing for him. He'll fidget and grumble and complain and generally pester Keron until they can go do something else.

Strong Smells : Because his nose got all the keenness his ears and eyesight didn't, Kerosk doesn't like things that have an overpoweringly pungent odor. Even things that might otherwise smell good will bother him if they're too concentrated.

Strengths:

* STRONG : If there's one thing that can be said about him, he's built for work. Kerosk will never shy away from a difficult task or a heavy load, and his handler will find him useful for all manner of jobs in the Minecraft as necessary.

* DETERMINED : Once he's set his mind to something, Kerosk can't be swayed from it. The uncharitable might call it pigheadedness. Regardless, he'll always give his all to completing a task, no matter what it might be. And he won't let his handler give up on things prematurely either, until they've exhausted every possible option.

Weaknesses:

* HEARING : For whatever reason, Kerosk hatched without the greatest hearing in the world. His nose is keen like nothing else in the world, but his impaired hearing as well as typical bad wher eyesight can make him a bit difficult to direct at times. More often than not, it will be easier for his handler to give him directions by sending mental images of what he wants him to do, rather than giving directions aloud.

* PLODDING : This Brown is not built for speed. He's tireless, pushing himself past when other whers might give up to exhaustion, and there'll never be any argument against his ability to haul things around. But even getting up a good amount of momentum is difficult for him, and his naturally slow gait may end up being something of a frustration for Keron.

Egg Description:
Erosk's egg was big, seeming to promise a Bronze or a Brown rather than the Blue that hatched out of it. Especially since it had a certain coppery sheen to it that appeared to indicate something other than what he was. Standardly wrinkly, it had a half fold that also would have marked it as lucky to those with superstitions about that sort of thing.

Mature Length: 3.5M

General Appearance...

Erosk looks like the bright blue sky on a sunny day. There's no mistaking him for any other color, and the vibrancy of him is pleasing without being overwhelming. There are some darker mottling patterns on him, mostly on his legs, but the only real dark part of him is along his spine and his face, with a weathered speckling pattern in navy blue. Closest to the joints, the webbing of his wings is so pale it almost looks white, very much like wispy clouds across the sky.

In terms of stature, he's a big, bouncy, roly poly Blue. While Erosk certainly isn't pudgy, he's a bit chunky for one of his color despite being averagely proportioned otherwise. He won't be as strong as his brother Brown, but he can hold his own in playful wrestling matches even if he'll never win them.

Personality...

Empathetic: This Blue is bubbly and cheerful. Were he a dragon, he'd be chatty. As it is, he's always in contact with Keron, sending him impressions of things he smells, sees, hears, tastes… It might be annoying if it weren't so earnest and happy. He just wants to share the world with his handler -- and his observational skills could be used well in the mines to track shifts in the earth or anything else that might spell danger.

Likes:

Children : Erosk thinks they're adorable, and he'll enjoy getting to play with them whenever he gets a chance. Like a big but affectionate dog, he'll be gentle and let them climb all over him or even pull on his ears or tail so long as they don't get too rough. And even if they do, he'll never get aggressive -- just extract himself from the situation.

Kerosk : It's like the two were meant to be together. Erosk thinks the other wher is the best thing ever, and will pester and prod and do his best to get him to play. Oftentimes, it may be the Brown that gets him to stay on task, but every once in a while Erosk can get him to wrestle with him.

Dislikes:

Yelling : It frightens him and makes him dissolve into an anxious mess. Loud noises in general aren't necessarily a problem, but he can pick up on the negative emotions that often accompany someone shouting, and he just can't handle them.

Hunger : No, you don't understand. He really hates it. To the point that waiting for meals seems like torture to him, and he'll overeat himself into putting on more weight or even fat if Keron lets him.

Strengths:

* GOOD MEMORY : For a wher, Erosk has a sharp mind. He'll remember the shadowy memories of places he's been, the way certain things -- even minerals -- taste, the voices of people Keron either likes or doesn't, and smells. If he's trained properly, it will make him a valuable addition to the Miner workforce.

* ENERGETIC : He doesn't ever seem to get tired. He's always bouncing around, ready to go, and with a marked zest for life. Erosk can be quite curious about new things, and he'll pursue them with the same vigor he does everything else.

Weaknesses:

* SENSITIVE : If Erosk gets reprimanded for something, he's going to pout. Mostly because he doesn't really understand that his energy can be overbearing. He'll mope about like a sad thing in these instances, until his attention is redirected elsewhere or he gets an "apology". Food will work. So will scratches under his chin.

* OBLIVIOUS : He doesn't really understand things that others might think or feel, beyond Keron. And in some of those instances, he can't really grasp the why. Connecting actions to consequences is not his strong suit.
