Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
4.2590 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every 4 or 5 OOC days. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Napping on a Wher [ 18.03.2590 | 8 PM ] Open

Sarinea and Sarinesk walk to a comfy spot near the beach. Sarinea is careful not to trip over any ground hazards as they walk. The giant, muscular, awkward looking Wher that walks beside her almost makes her trip in his fretting. He is highly protective of what is his and does not want even the ground to harm her. Sarinea lightly pushes him away with her non-glow basket holding hand on her third almost trip caused by him. Once she sends the emotions of content and relaxed, Sarinesk calms down. They finally reach the spot they were walking towards, with no help from Sarinesk.

Taking a seat, Sarinea sets the glow basket down. She is careful to angle the light away from Sarinesk so as not to damage his eyes. Sarinesk carefully lays behind her, wrapping his bulky body around her as much as he can. No one and no object was going to get to her without his interference. He will make sure of that on his own death.

What a wonderful night it was outside. The breeze blowing though the air was perfect. The temperature was just chilly enough to warrant a light blanket. Wrapped in the blanket Sarinea enjoyed the night air. The only thing that would make it better is if she had someone to enjoy it with. But, both of her husbands were dead and she was without a romantic partner. A feeling of loneliness washes over her. Sarinesk nudges her not so gently with his muzzle. He sends feelings of companionship and love and images of her surviving family and surrogate family.

That is right. She is not alone. She has her children and siblings. Sheali and Palissa as well. And of course she has Sarinesk. Her hand reaches toward the Wher and she gently scratches him. What a lovely creature. Disgusting to some, but absolutely the cutest thing to her. She would not be able to survive without him. She would not be able to be a good mother without his stability. She still missed both of her late husbands terribly and still ached for that sort of companionship once again, but Sarinesk would do for now. A gift.

To say that Keassa was having a rough time of it was an understatement. Work wasn't the same. Life wasn't the same without Disucsk helping out at the stables. It wasn't that Keassa minded the added work - if anything, that was proving to be a splendid distraction. But not having her lumbering mass of Brown wher tailing her wherever she was bothered her.

Disucsk would be fine, of course. He'd survived past the danger point in his recovery, but his face has been terribly marred and his shoulders and back had required extensive stitching. In short, even though it was now nearing three weeks after the attack, he was still slow to move and having difficulty navigating outside her weyr - their weyr - with only one eye. Braveheart, her dear flit, hadn't left his side since the accident. The flit, just like Keassa, was very attached to the lumbering beast.

This left Keassa alone for once. It was odd and unfamiliar to be without flit or wher, or even D'mir. But she'd insisted he return to his duties with his Wing now that everyone else had resumed their life. She'd kept him long enough while Disucsk was in the sick weyr but now that he was sleeping in their weyr, there was no reason to keep him. Nothing beyond selfish want.

After a long day of work by herself, Keassa decided she'd take her favorite runner on a walk around the weyrbowl. This particular one A'tor had named Copper. She was a strong animal with her namesake coloration to her brown coat.

Unfortunately, the fair few runners that had been saved didn't get out much. They were limited to the small pasture outside the stable. Keassa was very protective of them and didn't want a dragon snatching them up by mistake. Having the runner nearby curbed her loneliness somewhat.

Not quite the same as a wher, but the runners under Keassa's care had been so for ages now and all knew her. Because it was so late in the evening, Keassa didn't bother trying to ride the animal. That'd just be unfair not being able to see their footing. Last thing she needed was to break a runner's leg stepping in some dragon's footprint in the weyrbowl.

With the glowbasket in her other hand to provide adequate light for them to walk around after the sunset, Keassa's quite surprised to see someone else meandering around this late on her way back to the stables. Copper is calm and content to be out on a walk, unmindful of the dark as it is. At least at their calm pace she'd been led. "Evening," Keassa says by way of greeting. Seeing someone else so close to a wher has her heart breaking.

She should go back to Disucsk soon.

Sarinea replies back with an automatic: "Good evening to you as well." She sits up and wraps the blanket tighter around her so no air can get in to chill her. Squinting into the darkness of the night she makes out a woman and what appears to be a runner beast. The woman's glow basket definitely helped with this. And it was not like it was pitch black outside, it is just so hard to make out details. The woman's voice gave her away as a woman anyways. Which meant no random potential love story. That was just as good. She was obviously not ready for such a thing to occur.

Sarinesk eyes Keassa and her runner beast. A slight vibration starts in the back of his throat, but it is soft as they are still a distance away. Sarinea places the tips of her fingers gently on his head in a sign of back down. He relaxes his throat and resettles, content with Sarinea's indication of not something to be attacked, but still keeps an eye on the two. Sarinea sends feelings of safety, which calms Sarinesk down even more. Once her Watch Wher is disarmed, Sarinea calls out to the shape again.

"Where are you headed tonight? The stars are wonderful if you would like to join us." She would never say no to company. Company meant opportunities for gossip and for good stories. Who knows, maybe this woman cooked and they could trade recipes. But if she declined Sarinea could go back to her snuggling.

Keassa's heart couldn't help but break to hear the near imperceptible rumble of a protective wher. Others might've missed it, but having been on the receiving end of it for so long, her ears knew the noise intimately. But she also found herself smiling. To see someone else with an adorably monstrous wher, and to have it so protective, made her feel so… good. Keassa had never thought she was the only one, of course, but in a troubled time like this it was still sweet.

"I am not headed anywhere in particular," she answered honestly after the long moment she took to sort herself out. "Honestly, just taking the sweet runner for a walk. I hadn't really realized I'd let so much time slip by. What of yourself? Just enjoying the quiet? I'd not meant to disturb you and yours." Then, because Keassa couldn't help herself, she asked, "He's a handsome beast. What's his name?"

Sarinae sits up in a more proper fashion when it appears as if Keassa is open to conversation. She smiles lovingly at her Wher when Keassa calls him handsome. He really was and here was someone who understood that Whers were not ugly. She looks back at Keassa the warm smile still on her face.

"We are enjoying a night away from my children. You nor your runner beast are any disturbance, unless you have a child hidden behind you."

She reaches a hand to pat Sarinesk.

"This is Sarinesk and I am Sarinea. It is a pleasure to meet you both." Sarinesk raises his head briefly at the sound of his name and lowers it when he realizes she is not talking to him.

"May I ask the name of the person who sees beauty in the proper places?"

Spoiler for Hidden:
Also if your character has any gossip about her floating around that would have traveled to the kitchens.

Keassa chuckled softly at the woman’s mention of children. She’d not had little ones running around for some time, though it seemed likely that would happen again. Funny world, it was.

The Runner didn’t react to the wher. All the runners were used to the scent of them and, unless Sarinesk was going to cause problems, they’d not be bothered at all. Copper leaned down to take a bite of grass while it seemed they would be stationary. Keassa allowed it as she ran her hand along the runner’s neck, nodding to the wher in acknowledgement.

“My name is Keassa. I’ve a wher of my own but he’s currently healing.” She glanced back to Sarinesk. “He was injured in the last Hunter attack.” Saying it aloud made it seem more real, as if sitting next to her wher day in and day out while he healed hadn’t been horrific or real enough. Every time she made mention of it, Keassa hated the thought that she’d put him in harm’s way. That it might be her fault that he was now partially blind.

Keassa cleared her throat and offered the other woman a smile. Attempting to lighten the moment. “He’s recovering now, though. He’ll be fine.”

Spoiler for OOC:
Depending on how engrossed your character is in weyr politics, D'mir was demoted in month 10 of the previous turn and it’s rumored Keassa was the reason why – though not the official reason.

Sarinesk eyes the beast and then closes his eyes again when it seems to just be eating. He thrums against Sarinea's back peacefully. It was a pleasant night for him and he was happy to not be climbed all over by little Sarineas. He was generally with the children when Sarinea could not be.

Sarinea smiles warmly at the mention of another Wher Handler, and she fights to keep a polite smile on her face when Keassa continues to speak. The warmth definitely left it. It would literally break Sarinea if she lost Sarinesk so it was not something she ever dared to think about. It really was a horror to have such a beautiful creature be harmed and Sarinea did not want to make it any harder on Keassa by showing pity. She always hated it when people did that to her when they heard that she lost two loves of her life.

The sight of someone pitying her actually made her, a proper Hold woman, want to punch them in their face. It forced her into the role of victim, which was not where she wanted to be. Wounds mend with time, and while they do not heal completely, they are not wide open. But as soon as someone pities you and you see it... even know all these Turns later... that phase of her life comes crashing back to her. She refused to do that to Keassa.

"That is good to hear! Wher's are resilient, beautiful creatures. Why don't you sit, if you have the time of course. I understand that some duties occur at weird times and I would not be insulted if you had to go on your way."

Keassa hesitated, if only because she felt a little bad for interrupting the other woman’s quiet moment with her wher. But if she wanted to offer, then Keassa wouldn’t decline. Not just yet. It would be nice for some company while Disucsk slept. He needed his rest while his face healed. If anything were to happen, Braveheart would let her know right away.

The little flit hadn’t left her wher since they’d come back.

With a slight nod, Keassa approached and directed the runner. Copper had no problems moving with her or even remaining in place once Keassa did sit relatively close to the lady and her wher. “How’d you get your handsome wher?” Keassa asked. She always liked hearing about other people’s. Most had a healthy appreciation for the creatures and what they could do.

Most. And Sarinea seemed one of those. In that, Keassa would be in good company.
