Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
7.2591 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Feel free to say hello, guesties! Registered members can request a colored name here.

Remember,
this holds no IC consequence and is only for fun.

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Perhaps surprisingly, S’bok looks his age. It has never won him any favors looking as young as he does, but he tends to carry himself with a swaggering confidence that helps to compensate for his youthful appearance. This confidence, when coupled with the level stare of dark eyes, may often come across as intimidating. His expression of choice is a smug look of satisfaction, but the emotion that defines his features the most is the sharp-edged seriousness of someone who cannot help but assume the worst.

S'bok is not currently the tallest of men, but he's still growing and will likely end up over 6' by the time he reaches his full height. A mixture of conditioning and natural build has left him lithe without being overly bulky, wiry with muscle but not the hulking mass of it some Bronzers are. During his early teenage years he was much more gangly, but time and better treatment have gradually smoothed him out into someone strong, athletic, and proportional. Overall, he's as sleek as his dragon and just as ready for a fight.

His hair grows thick and dark, but so far he hasn't developed much facial hair beyond dark stubble. S'bok's hands are long and strong -- but like the rest of him, his fingers are littered with scars. The Pass was not kind to him, and in addition to the marks on his knuckles, he bears some of his history as whip scars criss-crossing his upper back.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: S’bok has never known a peaceful Pern until recently. What could he do but survive? Whatever Pern was like before, it’s gone now -- dead like most of the people that lived there. What matters is the present, not the past. Even more important than the present is the future:  and S'bok is firmly of the opinion that the people of Southern Winds should hope for the best but expect (and prepare for) the worst. To that end, he tries his best to approach problems practically and realistically rather than with a naive sense of idealism. Wishing and hoping without action never saved anyone.

Response to dragon color mutations: The color mutations are a gift to Pern in its time of need; naturally, it's only right that Neisoth outstripped the Bronzes. S'bok sees the Reds as a new factor, and the birth of more Blacks as a good thing. As Pern's first, he's both glad to see more, and quietly upset he's no longer the sole Blackrider. There was an element to his status and novelty that he secretly enjoyed. However, the mutations scare him, too; he's seen how the oddly-born herdbeasts die early. While publicly he sees the new dragons as superior, deep in his heart he's scared for Neisoth and what the mutation might meant for his dragon's lifespan and health. Nevertheless, he believes that both the Blacks and Reds can prove an asset if only people will let them -- and the appearance of more, so-far healthy mutations, has both vindicated and reassured him about his and Neisoth's future.

Who are you...

Likes:
Power: Growing up on the bottom rung of Pernese society, S’bok revels in the thrill of having power over others and being in charge. He loves the rush of ownership, the taste of it, how others have to step down off their high horses and respect him. Though he tries to make a point to earn it rather than just throwing it around as so many above him have done all his life. To that end, while he sometimes can't resist rubbing it in the faces of those who hate him, he does actually try not to abuse his newfound rank. This will get better with age.

Sex: He’s a teenage boy with all the healthy urges one would expect. He likes sex in a casual manner, and isn’t above using it as a method of control; but at the same time, he doesn’t really see it as an expression of closeness between two people. Sex is fun, a game, and little else. That being said, it seems to be one of the few ways he can relate to Halirina.

Adventure: Always the sort of child to wander where he shouldn’t, S’bok likes to experience new things and hates to sit on his hands in the Weyr. He likes to explore, to try everything once, and to break the mold for the sake of breaking it. In that regard, being Weyrleader sometimes rankles him because it comes with a lot less freedom than his younger self would have thought it did.

Fighting: S’bok loves the roar of his blood and the rush of physical fighting, the pain and the heady joy of it. What issue can’t be solved by a punch to someone’s jaw? It lets him channel his anger and lets him feel power over others. This is something that he misses from his times as a drudge, since he can't indulge it now -- and he's rather disappointed at the current ban on riders dueling.

Drink and Good Food: Growing up fighting with the other drudges for scraps, the table set before him as Weyrleader almost makes him sick, rich as it is compared to what he’s used to. He loves the taste of wine and well-seasoned meat, and loves even more having earned the right to eat it. However, this makes for a pet issue of his, and the reason he's taken the Wings of the weyr on secret hunts before:  S'bok is firmly of the opinion that everyone should be able to enjoy the same quality and quantity of food that he now does.

Dislikes:
Authority: S’bok hates being ordered around, being oppressed, and being controlled by others. He rebels on an almost instinctual level, though he is not wholly against what he would see as useful direction or suggestion. He'll just have to swallow his pride a bit in order to learn from those who have things to teach him. He almost inherently distrusts those in power, despite now being one himself, and only time will remedy this, though he will probably always be suspicious of other people's ulterior motives.

Being Belittled: Having others look down on him, belittle his accomplishments, doubt him -- S’bok hates all of it. He has a violent drive to prove them wrong, to shove those words and looks back down their throats. This can make him insufferable at times, since he sees everything as a challenge and has a combative streak a mile wide. S'bok can be a bit sensitive to the criticism of others.

Insubordination: Likewise, he hates having people go around his authority or publicly humiliate him. His reaction to this is quick, decisive and sometimes violent; he’s got no trouble lashing those who get out of line or serving up the correct punishment for an indiscretion. This conflicts internally some, since S'bok doesn't want to turn into the sort of tyrant others with rank can sometimes be. But he and Neisoth also know that they can't allow people to openly question them if they want to be respected.

Cowardice: As much as S’bok hates insubordination, he has unique scorn for those who give in to him too easily. Those who bow to him out of fear -- how pathetic is that? Grow a spine. He'd rather hear honesty from someone, no matter how scathing or difficult, rather than be plied with sweet lies. In part, it bothers him so much because it makes him feel like the sort of despot he so much doesn't want to be.

Strengths:

THRIVES IN ADVERSITY : Perhaps S’bok’s greatest strength, his stubborn and confident outlook means he thrives when things are that their worst. The scorn and dismissal of others makes him all the more determined to show them up; the shortages of food makes him all the more eager to find a solution that works. S’bok doesn’t get scared or depressed -- he gets angry.

CONFIDENT : He thinks highly of himself and his capabilities. S'bok knows he’s good on a dragon, knows he can lead the Weyr and keep people in line, and thinks he’s good in bed. He’s sure he can face and overcome anything that comes his way, and he’s eager to make sure others know that.

ASSERTIVE : S’bok is very aggressive in getting his way; he’s not easily intimidated, if at all, and will drive his ideas and agenda forward relentlessly. Attempts to scare him don’t work; beatings only get him more determined to win.

DRIVEN : He has always striven for more, better, higher. Impressing Neisoth gave him an unbelievable opportunity to prove himself, to show what he was capable of. Winning the Weyrleadership position has offered even more of that opportunity -- and so has keeping it for the second turn in a row. He puts his mind to a task and will focus on it, practice, try again and again until he either masters it or comes to a solution. He is relentless.

CLEVER : Under his stubborn, swaggering exterior, S’bok is clever and surprisingly subtle. His ability to observe people and judge their weaknesses quickly has only recently awoken; before coming to the Weyr, cleverness got him nothing his fists couldn’t get him faster. Now he’s starting to learn how to play people off against one another and how to use their weaknesses to his advantage.

Weaknesses:

* SELFISH : Growing up as a drudge of the Hold, S’bok learned early to care for himself and himself first, and this is the primary lens through which he views the world. Everything is ultimately about him, and he only invests in issues when they become his problem. He has little to no sympathy for other people, and no true loyalty to anyone other than Neisoth.

* PROUD : He thinks highly of himself -- and why shouldn't he? He’s good looking, talented,  the youngest Weyrleader in all of Pern’s history, the first rider of the powerful and sleek Black dragons, and he’s survived on his own and hauled himself through the ranks. He knows how to handle himself in a fight and his tough life has given him the ability to see the world for what it really is. That’s how he sees things, anyway -- in the harsher light of reality, this hubris is one of his biggest weaknesses as a leader. S'bok is so caught up in proving other people wrong, in spiting those who hate him, and making sure that he doesn't look week that sometimes he'll get stuck because the only opinion he'll consider is his own.

* AGGRESSIVE : S’bok is terrible at handling his anger and explodes into rages with relative ease. He resents the majority of the Dragonriders for what he sees as a lifetime on their part of being handed things. He’s blunt and forward and spares the feelings on no one. When pushed too far he tends to snap.

* VIOLENT : S’bok is not a man of words, but of action, and when angry that action is usually violence. He uses violence to keep people in line, to express himself, and to make himself feel powerful. When he can’t think of the words to say, he lets his fists do the talking. When it comes to him, violence seems the only way to intimidate him -- but even then, he’s too damn stubborn to let people knock him down for long. Only recently has he had to branch away from this as his usual tactic; the Weyr, and becoming Weyrleader, have awoken a clever side of him he only recently realized he had. Diplomacy is new to him, so he has to work against his natural impulses to lash out first and ask questions later.

* REBELLIOUS : Authority has little hold over him. S’bok has come to regard adults who try to order him around as fools at best and idiots at worst; he doesn’t respect them and will only follow their lessons and commands because he chooses to do so. The thought of unquestioning obedience frankly horrifies him, and when in fits of particular immaturity, he’s been known to disobey for its own sake.

* IMMATURE : Ultimately, S’bok is still in many ways very young -- learning how to deal with others and to control his own powerful emotions. He doesn’t fully understand the world (though naturally he thinks he does) and doesn’t yet have much self-control. When defeated on all counts he flies into rages, he thinks with his dick when it comes to women and he is woefully inexperienced in more ways than he’d ever admit to anyone.

Describe Yourself:

* CYNICAL : The world is a bad one out to kick you in the teeth. He finds optimists particularly silly; why look on the bright side? Better to see the situation for what it is: desperate. Does he believe they’ll all survive? No, he doesn’t; but damn them all to the Red Star if he’s not going to fight every step of the way. Toward this end, S'bok still finds it important to plan for the future, so long as in doing so they prepare for the worst it could possibly be.

* SARCASTIC : When aggression isn’t his reaction, S’bok tends to be dark and snarky, sarcastically responding to others or commenting drolly from the sidelines. This is growing ever more common for him as he learns that he will need to fight these new battles with words rather than brute force. He's quick-witted and constantly thinking, and how he talks reflects that.

* THRILLSEEKER : Boredom is his bane; he was the Weyrling that did barrel rolls, that unstrapped half his harness, that jumped to prove he could. He loves the rush of adrenaline and the roaring of wind and blood in his ears. Half the weyr no doubt wishes that this habit of recklessness will end with him breaking his neck.

* GUARDED: He doesn’t trust anyone. S’bok confides in one person alone: Neisoth. He assumes -- especially now -- that anyone trying to get close to him has some ulterior motive. He treats everyone with suspicion, and only those who fight back earn his respect. By the same token, he's slowly learning to trust Halirina, and is starting to accept that she has no reason to wish for him to fail.

* ANALYTICAL : S’bok has a sharp mind for strategy, one that’s becoming sharper as his experience grows. While he might dislike others, he’s learning to step back and assess their strengths and weaknesses accurately, and assign them where they’re best needed.

The Magic Touch: In the end, S’bok is a boy raised without guidance and without much parental care. He’s taken care of himself until now, and Impressing on Neisoth formed what was really the first positive relationship of his short life. Having others who genuinely care for him with no ulterior motive or conditions is new to him, and he finds himself suspicious and cautious of others who claim to like him.

Children: To his knowledge, S'bok doesn't have any children. His few dalliances before Weyrlinghood never yielded anything as far as he knows -- and now that he's Weyrleader, he's unlikely to have any unless Halirina feels so inclined.

Tell us a story...

* 2572, 0 Seirobok was born in the overcrowded Fort Hold, son of a Dragonrider and the man’s young lover. His mother’s close relations had been lost in the repeated moves and the chaos swallowing Pern, and she bore her son with her lover far away. The baby Seirobok was cared for lovingly by Fathra, the two of them relatively isolated in the Hold.

* 2575, 3 Fathra died of illness when her small son was 3 turns old, leaving him orphaned. His father was notified, but in the chaos of the 9th Pass’s destruction, he never had the boy sent for -- it can be presumed the young child was simply forgotten about. With no relatives to claim him, he was handed over to the drudges.

* 2586, 3-7 Seirobok was raised as a drudge, fighting with the other children over scraps and learning early on to fight dirty. The adults around him didn’t show any real interest in him; the other drudges weren’t terrible on good days, but with the shortages of food, they shoved the boy away from what food they got. As such, he grew up as a scrappy and cunning child, for he had to be in order to survive and avoid getting caught on the occasions that he had to steal.

* 2579, 7-12 His companions were the other children, and Seirobok grew swiftly into the initially unintentional and eventually entirely intentional role of leader. He took control of a gang of boys around him who kept the others in line. He fed himself and his followers with his fists and quick wit, but lived a life with little to look forward to.

* 2587, 15 The end of the disastrous Pass didn’t mean much to him, in the end. It meant other people could talk about where they'd get food, and they’d have less bodies to bury; but to a drudge, it meant nothing. They moved to Fort Island when it was ready, the teenage boy having been moved into menial labor. He met his half-brother L'andis for the first time when the man whipped him for stealing, and to say the impression stuck is a bit of an understatement. It was in his duties as a drudge, however, that he was Searched; and so, rather suddenly, he was taken to be a Candidate. The change in lifestyle was striking -- suddenly, he was treated as a person. Seirobok later stood to impress to Neisoth, Pern’s first, and for a time only, Black dragon. Suddenly possessed of a friend who would never abandon him, S'bok threw himself headlong into Weyrling training so that he and Neisoth could be the best that they could:  and so that he would never be pushed around again.

* 2588, 16 As a Weyrling he was both eager to learn and isolated -- those he got along with were often from his own class, and those were few and far between. The disdain the Weyrfolk had for Neisoth led to S’bok getting into fights, and after being lashed several times, he learned to keep his rages confined. Even so, he became more and more isolated and withdrawn as time went on and Neisoth continued to grow, keeping easy pace with the Bronzes in his class.

* 2589, 17 As a Weyrling, the swiftly growing Black dragon and his determined if rebellious rider showed promise; they were swift, agile, and adventurous. Neisoth grew and grew until he was equally matched with any of the Bronzes, the shining Black dragon stronger in a fight and more aggressive than the others. He eagerly lusted after fights with the Hunters where the Bronzes were more reluctant, and S’bok felt similarly, wanting to revel in the rush alongside him.

His first experience of mating Flights was with the rising of Voloruth, a chase that Neisoth won with some ease. Heady off that victory, it was easy to take Niema’s advice to heart, and to let Neisoth fly Kalestath when she Rose a few days later. It surprised S'bok just as much as anyone else when he actually won, but he threw himself into being Weyrleader with the same desire for success as he had everything else in life.

Becoming Weyrleader only highlighted to S'bok just how alone he was in the weyr. The first months were rough; S’bok strained against the restrictions on him and sneered back at those that belittled him. But as the months have passed, he’s become subtler, more capable, his pride driving him to be a competent Weyrleader capable of coming up with solutions even when those who doubt him question his decisions. With more mutated colors hatching from Kalestath and Neisoth's clutch, however, S'bok hesitantly has begun to wonder if maybe he won't always be as alone and ostracized as he is now.

* 2590, 18 All of it seemed so damn precarious, but once again he and Neisoth defied everyone's expectations and won Kalestath's Flight -- even when some of the weyr's Bronzers attempted to distract Neisoth by fighting him directly. Far more ready for his maintained position as Weyrleader after a turn of experience, S'bok hit the ground running with his typical determination and diligence. Though he still clashes with certain other factions in the weyr, he's steadily proving himself capable:  especially with the hunts that he's organized to help feed the population of Southern Winds.

Dragon Details

Name:
Neisoth
Color:
Black
Date of Birth:
27.6.2587 9th Interval
Place of Birth:
Southern Winds Weyr
Clutch Mother:
Kalestath
Clutch Father:
Leremith
Measurements:
Mature Length: 38M
Mature Height: 7.6M
Mature Wingspan: 63M

General Appearance...

From the time Neisoth tumbled from his grey egg, his color has been his most striking aspect. Deep black, highlighting to a dull steel, his hide is dark as night save for his belly and inner legs, which shade to a lighter charcoal hue. Overall there's not much variation to the colors of his hide, and any distinctive patterning beyond those slight gradients is lost to the saturation of black on him. There's no doubt that he's something else, something more, than anything else seen before on Pern, since there's no metallic sheen to him to indicate that he's just a particularly dark Bronze or freakishly large other color.

Even when he hatched, Neisoth matched the size of the biggest Bronze, and that fact has held through during his entire development. Not given to odd proportions as some dragonets are, he defied the expectations of many that he would grow to be weak, sickly, or delicate. Neisoth has never been sick a day in his life. Now that he's an adult, he’s muscular and built like a Bronze, but with a slightly thicker body and long limbs. His jaw is strong and full of razor-sharp teeth that he uses more liberally than other dragons, and his claws are longer and sharper than average, which makes him particularly adept at fighting.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Neisoth’s mind voice is young, eager, and often sardonic. His tone is deep but hardly a rumble, and in almost all things speaks of confident arrogance.

Likes:
Fights: LIke S’bok, Neisoth enjoys the rush of adrenaline and the release a good fight gives him. Hunters are a challenge to be overcome, and life isn’t complete if he can’t sink his teeth into one now and then. At times, he wishes he could be a part of a fighting Wing rather than stuck in the Weyr, since it would give him a greater opportunity to hunt the beasts.

Winning: Neisoth knows he’s the strongest and fastest dragon in the Weyr, and he loves being able to prove it - loves to sit smugly and watch the defeated Bronzes rankle in their humiliation. His competitive streak extends to more than just Flights, though, and he hates to be outdone.

Mating Flights: With some combination of the above, Neisoth loves mating flights. Aside from the obvious reasons he might enjoy these things, they’re another way to prove his right to be a member of the Weyr -- especially if he can catch Kalestath. He loves beating the Bronzes as much as the prize itself.

Adventure: Much like his rider, Neisoth outright enjoys venturing into the dangerous jungle and likes to see new places. He enjoys the feeling of being the first dragon to do something, especially if that something is dangerous.

Swimming: Neisoth loves to swim in the cove and get his shining hide cleaned in the clear waters. The prospect of encountering beach snakes makes it all the better, the danger exciting him and making the fun of swimming all the more thrilling.

Dislikes:
Bronzes: His primary rivals and the most scornful color, Neisoth has come to dislike the proud males on principle, both their riders and the dragons themselves. He tends to be especially on edge in their presence since so many seem to think he and his rider should be deposed from the Weyrleadership.

Being Doubted or Dismissed: Proud of his size, power, and rank, Neisoth hates to be shunted aside or referred to as a ‘freak’. Like S’bok, this treatment makes him more determined to prove his detractors wrong. It may also make him a steadfast ally to other dragons who hatch as Black or Red.

Cold and Bad Weather: Neisoth’s the sort of dragon who likes to bask in the sun when allowed to, and he hates flying in the rain or snow. Rainy or chilly days are sure to put him in a bad mood.

Boredom: Neisoth hates sitting on his haunches doing nothing. He becomes bored easily and is quick to become irritable and snappy if he feels cooped up and stagnant.

Losing: Ultimately, Neisoth hates not measuring up to his own image of himself. Neither he nor S’bok take defeat well, and Neisoth in particular is prone to bitterness and irritation, sometimes longing for a violent resolution to his feelings.

Strengths:

* BRAVE : Neisoth fears little and will spring into a fight to defend those who he, S'bok, or both, care for. Against the Hunters and the jungle he’s fearless, seeing the dark trees as a challenge to be overcome rather than a deathtrap.

* LOYAL : Despite his standoffishness, he has a drive to be a part of a group deep down, just as his rider does. Neisoth is quick to defend others who’ve treated him well in the past, and he is stubbornly loyal to his few friends. This includes a powerful and complete devotion to his mate, Kalestath.

Weaknesses:

* IMPULSIVE : Like S’bok, Neisoth is a dragon of action, quick to annoyance and anger and eager to avenge slights against his rider. He’s therefore a little more dangerous than other dragons when he feels S’bok is being threatened or mistreated. If S’bok cannot muster the willpower to calm Neisoth, the dragon will snap at Holders and other Riders, as well as other dragons.

* PROUD : Neisoth takes after his rider and revels in his ability to fight Hunters and to outfly the Bronzes. He has no problem smugly reminding others who won the last flight, or putting riders and dragons alike in their place.

Dragon Speech Code: This is what your dragon's voice will look like. Background: #222222; Text: #999999

Member Info...

Anything Else:
Neisoth tends to talk to other dragons, riders, and even non-riders fairly often. He has no issue making his opinions known or coming to S'bok's defense.

[apptitle]Your Reflection...[/apptitle]
[apprefl]Appearance: Perhaps surprisingly, S’bok looks his age.

[apptitle]Who are you...[/apptitle]
[apprefl]Likes:

Having others who genuinely care for him with no ulterior motive or conditions is new to him, and he finds himself suspicious and cautious of others who claim to like him.[/apprefl]

Children: To his knowledge, S'bok doesn't have any children. His few dalliances before Weyrlinghood never yielded anything as far as he knows -- and now that he's Weyrleader, he's unlikely to have any unless Halirina feels so inclined.[/apprefl]
[apptitle]Tell us a story...[/apptitle]
[apprefl]* 2572, 0 Seirobok was born in the overcrowded Fort Hold, son of a Dragonrider and the man’s young lover.

His first experience of mating Flights was with the rising of [vorloruth]Voloruth[/vorloruth], a chase that Neisoth won with some ease.

[apptitle]General Appearance...[/apptitle]
[apprefl]From the time Neisoth tumbled from his grey egg, his color has been his most striking aspect.

[/apprefl]
[apptitle]Personality...[/apptitle]
[apprefl]Mind Voice: Neisoth’s mind voice is young, eager, and often sardonic.

Neisoth tends to talk to other dragons, riders, and even non-riders fairly often. He has no issue making his opinions known or coming to S'bok's defense.[/appbio]
