Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
1.2591 0A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Feel free to say hello, guesties! Registered members can request a colored name here.

this holds no IC consequence and is only for fun.

It had taken longer to feed Sayimith than it had to oil her. There just wasn’t much of her to oil, and the depth of her hunger, even for such a small creature, had outweighed the creeping dryness of her skin. Even so, Erieen had gone over her hide with the soft rag more than once, marveling at the color of it, at the fact she was his, and doubly making sure that she wasn’t injured. It didn’t seem that she had been, even amidst all the chaotic tussling of the various Reds when they’d hatched, but the little lady was more than happy to let her rider rub her down regardless.

Despite her determination that they would prove J’hal wrong—whatever the source of his dislike for Erieen—she’d quickly forgotten about the encounter. Other people just didn’t register on her radar unless she was directly interacting with them, which honestly suited Erieen just fine. There weren’t many others that he cared about anyway… C’ace was the one that readily sprang to mind, and Inanna, his former mentor. Idly, Erieen wondered what she would think of the fact that he’d Impressed to a Red.

It was a faint thought, but he wanted her to be proud of him. The Green rider had always been kind, in the short time they’d known one another, and it disturbed him more than he’d let on to think that she might not be just because of the color of his dragon.

How could anyone dislike me? A lazy thought. No matter all her insistence earlier that they play once she’d been fed and oiled, Sayimith had grown sleepy in his lap, almost half drowsing as Erieen carefully tended her pretty wingsails.

“I don’t know, Sayimith.” Truly, he didn’t. Whatever harm she might have caused when she’d first hatched, she hadn’t meant to hurt anyone. That, he knew. And Erieen would happily fight anyone that told him she wasn’t a real dragon, or that she was unnatural—a sentiment he quietly tried to muffle, for fear of riling her up again.

Soon enough, though, he knew he couldn’t delay her sleeping for much longer. And if he tried to rub any more hide oil into her skin, he suspected it just wouldn’t soak in. So he replaced the lid on the pot of oil, and set the rag aside. He’d already pulled off his Candidate robes before setting her in his lap again, no longer in need of the tattered and bloody garment.

This time, when he picked her up, Sayimith gladly snuggled into his embrace, stretching her small body out into the crooks of his arms and thrumming, even winding her tail around his upper right arm like Escort or Lady might.

Flits which found him again once he’d left the feeding area to make his way to the weyrling barracks. They’d been worried about him, but at least well-trained enough not to go to him in his earlier distress and pain. Chittering quietly, Lady even settled on his shoulder and peered down at Sayimith, who looked up at her curiously and snaked her tongue out to lick at the tiny Green. Escort, too big now to comfortably sit on Erieen’s shoulder for any great length of time, swooped around him and followed them all to Room 9. He’d already accepted Sayimith into what he considered his faire, even if she was an oddly-colored flit as far as he was concerned.

Erieen was the first to arrive, which didn’t surprise him since he’d been the first to Impress, too. So he took the opportunity to survey the room a little, and pick one of the cots wedged into a corner. It was a habit he’d picked up at the Hold, to always have one side or his back to a wall. Things were safer that way. And even now, knowing that he didn’t have anything to fear, it was an impulse he indulged himself.

Safer from what?

“Nothing, I guess. It just makes me feel better.” Briefly, Erieen eyed the stone sleeping couch next to the bed he’d chosen—knowing that it was meant to be Sayimith’s perch. But he… didn’t want to let her go. So tightening his arms around her, he shifted to lie on the bed, resting on his side with his back to the wall and settling the tiny Red against his chest. She purred, pressing up against him, and Escort and Lady both arranged themselves draped over each other next to the pillow.

Erieen yawned, but fought off the first tendrils of sleep as he waited. He wanted to see who else would be sharing this room with him first. It’d be prudent to know, even if they might not hold any ill intentions.

Room nine. Room nine. Room nine. He thought about it over and over, half afraid that he’d actually forget the room assigned to him. Getting cleaned up by the Healer had been pretty quick since Masath had done very little damage in her excited climbing of him. Now she was nestled against him, allowing S’nis to carry her through the unfamiliar Weyrling Barracks.

It wasn’t that he was scared, terrified, or anything like that. Just anxious. What small things he’d had already had been packed up and easily picked up. Something most Candidates did before a hatching just in case they did impress. Sweet weyrfolk had already brought their things and dropped them off in the common area. So all he’d had to do was pick up his small bundle of effects and make his way to Room Nine.

His new home. His new life. With Masath. S’nis idly hoped the wonder of it all wouldn’t ever go away.

She was awake and curious, but there was definitely a haze of sleep weighing on her. Tiny as she was, Masath had already used up her bought of energy at the Hatching. She was ready for sleep – after they met their new roommates of course.

S’nis stepped into the room and saw they weren’t there first. But, thankfully, it was someone that had impressed a Red. While he wasn’t overly familiar with Erieen, neither did he know anything bad about him either. With a small, timid smile S’nis claimed the bed to the right. He set his things down, then sat himself. “Ah… Hey,” he murmured softly, not wanting to disturb the other weyrling who was laying down. It was late and it’d been… well, a day.

Masath perked up a little more now that she saw who they’d be staying with. Another red? Her sister, she knew idly. In an abstract way. With a trill of greeting, she thought nothing of reaching out to the other Red with a greeting. Hello. She thought it only polite to include her sister’s bonded in the hello.

Erieen was actually, genuinely relieved to see Siconis—S’cis? S’con? He’d have to make a point to ask. But while he didn’t know much about the other man, he did know that he was quiet. He’d never been a cause of trouble during Candidate lessons, and he was by no means arrogant or annoying:  at least not that Erieen had ever been exposed to. And that just didn’t seem to be the sort of person he was. It helped, in a way, that he was also close to Erieen in age. A bit older, unless he missed his guess—so definitely empathetic to the previous fears of aging out.

But both of them would never have to worry about that again, it seemed.

And Erieen had never been the kind of person much prone to guileless smiles, but he did smile then. Tired as he was, there was nothing sly about it, just an expression of genuine relief and happiness. Another Red—he’d not mind that at all. Someone else, too, that would understand what it meant to be bonded to such a dragon.

“Hey.” He blinked a bit when the other man’s dragon addressed him too, but just smiled again. She had a sweet, bright voice, and it just thrilled him, almost giddy, to realize that this was all very real. They’d Impressed. Erieen even sat up a little, propping himself on one elbow. “I guess we finally did it. What’s your name now?”

Sayimith, previously dozing, perked up some when she realized she’d been talked to. She might not care much about other people, but it was another little Red addressing her—and that she didn’t mind. Hi! I’m Sayimith. Who’re you? There was a tell-tale tiredness to her voice, but her energy had picked back up a notch.

T'vil had finally gotten his room assignment by gathering the courage to talk to D'zel. Room nine, he was told, so with Findaeth in tow, they crossed the weyrbowl again and made their way to their new room.

The stars are still out! Findaeth noticed, once again looking everywhere but the ground as they plodded their way through the bowl. T'vil chuckled and patted his dragon, gently steering him in the right direction.

"And if you don't watch your step, you're going to trip on your face," he told the black, placing a hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, you're stumbling because you're so tired." When they reached the weyrling barracks, T'vil paused in the entrance to the commons area to look around.

On the surface, not much different than the candidate barracks, but everything was still different now, flavored with the dragon sharing his mind. These were the weyrling barracks. He had Impressed, he had found a dragon, and he wouldn't have to go back.

Of course not, the black rumbled, picking up on his thoughts. We will not be separated.

"I know, Fin, I know." Findaeth stopped short and shoved his face into T'vil's chest. "What did I do?" he demanded, looking down at the little black and wondering, with a small shred of fear, if he'd be attacked like some of the others.

Never call me that again, Findaeth demanded, his whirling eyes not leaving T'vil's gaze until the weyrling slowly nodded. And I will not attack you. Just remember that my name is Findaeth. T'vil, gathering his wits, grabbed the small trunk of his things and carried it down to room nine, his dragon on his heels.

He heard voices coming from inside, meaning that he wasn't the first to arrive and possibly the last. He finally turned the corner and entered into the room, stopping just past the entrance. Findaeth was still hidden behind him, though his head peeked out from behind his rider.

"Hi," T'vil said awkwardly, moving quickly to put his trunk at the base of the only unoccupied cot. It was situated on the left side of the room, close to the door but up against the wall. The stone bed for his dragon was to his right. "I'm T'vil. This is Findaeth." He scratched his dragon with a now free hand.

Findaeth cast a sharp eye over the room. His roommates were both reds, both sisters, both sitting in their rider's laps. He turned back to look up at T'vil, who picked up on his thoughts and shook his head firmly. "Go lay on the couch," he suggested, and Findaeth realized that was probably a very good idea. T'vil sat on the edge of his own cot, looking at the people he'd be living with.

Eireen and Siconis, whatever their new names were, were good company, he thought. Older, so less inclined to play games, but they also might not include him because of the age gap between them. The two men also had an added connection with their red sisters, whereas T'vil had his black...but then again, riding mutations could draw them together. While he wasn't sure if life-long friends were in the cards, people he'd enjoy living with for two turns were certainly on his list of things he wanted in weyrlinghood.

S’nis was tired. Mentally more so than anything else, but he resisted. If only because this day was too brilliant, too beautiful, to really end. Not yet, anyways. He at least kicked off his shoes and shrugged out of his candidate robe. Something he’d never need again, thankfully. Coming so close to aging out, so close to losing it all, and the little Red wonder Masath had picked him.

Masath remained on him while he disrobed – a feat of some finangling, but she wasn’t ready to leave him and S’nis was fine with that. With the robe now balled up near his pillow, S’nis answered Erieen. “Ah, name’s S’nis now. And this sleepy beauty is Masath. Yours?” Just as he’d answered, their third and final roommate joined them.

Just like with Erieen, S’nis wasn’t overly familiar with Teevil. Younger, but that didn’t mean anything. And impressed to a Black. Mutations obviously didn’t bother S’nis. He offered the boy a smile. “S’nis and this is Masath.” The tiny Red, though excited by the new people, was barely managing to keep herself awake. Drifting in and out of consciousness. Still on his lap.

She’d be allowed to sleep with him, right? With how small Masath was, she easily fit in the cot right along-side S’nis. Then, to answer Erieen’s earlier question, he chuckled a little and glanced down at her. “Ah, yeah. I’m still expecting to wake up tomorrow and find this was all some very cruel dream. But… I think it’s real enough.” He lifted his arm to show the small bandage where her over-excited actions had wounded him some. “Feels real enough, eh?”

S’nis. It was a good name. And so was Masath—it matched the sweet, darkly colored little Red that seemed just as determined to stay coiled up with her rider as Sayimith was with him.

It’s nice to meet you. Her response was polite, nearly a chirp, but she’d extend that courtesy to the other Red.

Erieen himself had been about to reply when their third roommate arrived. He knew even less about Teevil—T’vil, now—than he did S’nis. But they would be rooming together for the next two turns, so Erieen supposed he’d have ample time to get to know them. Hopefully, the younger weyrling wouldn’t be annoying. He did eye him and his Black somewhat warily, thinking unbidden of J’hal and how Lesserath had unnerved him when he was still a Candidate. But they were all weyrlings now, and all three bonded to mutations:  so he tried to squash the surge of uncertainty.

He might not instinctively trust people, but he’d try to give these ones the benefit of the doubt.

“This is Sayimith,” he said once the young Black rider had introduced himself too, hand resting lightly on the space between her shoulders. “And she didn’t give me an honorific, so I’m still just Erieen.”

That’s your name, she said, almost with a huff, And I like it. Why would I shorten it? It’s pretty just the way it is.

“I’m not complaining.” Erieen blushed a little, still unused to talking to Sayimith inside his head. Hopefully that would get easier with time?

“Anyway, yeah, I keep… expecting to wake up and for none of this to have happened.” Leaning down, he idly tugged up his pantleg to reveal the bandages on his calf from where one of the Reds had snagged him early in the Hatching. “But that’s real. So I guess so is she.”

Of course I am, she added helpfully.

It was one thing to have bonded to a dragon, to feel Masath in his head, but quite another to hear someone else’s dragon. It wasn’t an invasion of his mind, so much, but hearing someone that was there but not… really being able to pinpoint the source. He knew it was the little Red with Erieen, but only because logic deduced it should be her. But if he’d had his eyes closed, S’nis never would’ve been able to guess where she was, who it came from, or anything like that.

It was an alien sensation ‘talking’ to a dragon other than his own. Even Masath, really. Just because she was a weight on his mind, like a headache that didn’t hurt, didn’t mean it wasn’t an odd, new feeling.

“Erieen,” S’nis said aloud, if only because he wanted to actually hear some spoken words. Ground himself in the moment. In reality. Because this was real. It wasn’t a dream. It couldn’t be. If he woke up and Masath wasn’t there…

I’ll be here when you wake up, she sleepily promised, fervently. As sure as if she were reaffirming to him that the sun would rise.

She would always be there. For as long as they both were alive. No one could take her from him.

S’nis found himself smiling despite the wounds they’d both sustained. “They were an excitable bunch.” It was a bittersweet statement. No matter the joy of the impression, he knew people had died. Not that it really registered with Masath, but S’nis knew what that meant. The loss of life had really put a damper on the entire event.

Trying to explain death to her so soon just seemed… wrong, so he hadn’t bothered. Instead, he’d just said it was like going Between and not coming back. While that had been sufficient for the Red, it hadn’t really bothered her all that much either. She couldn’t go between, neither could S’nis, so what did she care? Her inability to care about others should’ve concerned him but… really, S’nis was warmed by her focus on him.

He selfishly craved her affection above and beyond anyone else. The rest of the world could burn. So long as she cared about him, what did S’nis really care?

“Tomorrow is going to be a big day, hm? Think they’re going to give us any time to settle into it all or are we just gonna wake up and… bam…. Jump into training?”

Findaeth nodded at the two reds, happy enough to curl up in his couch. T'vil faltered uncertainly, still just as new to this as his new roommates.

"Eireen and S'nis," he repeated, giving the other men a small smile. It wouldn't be difficult to call S'nis by his new name, given that he only knew of the other candidate in passing. It was strange to think of himself as T'vil now, though. For all that Findaeth didn't like a nickname, he seemed fine giving his rider one.

T'vil is a good name for a rider, he rumbled, raising his head to look at his rider. T'vil didn't bother to respond. He worked off his candidate robe as Eireen and S'nis continued their earlier conversation, folding the white garment as neatly as he could. He'd have to ask someone what to do with it now that he didn't need it. Surely there were always candidates that needed robes.

He settled himself carefully on the floor, leaning back against his bed with a hand on Findaeth's shoulder. He wanted to keep touching his dragon, reminding himself that this was here and now and real. Like an anchor, the calm little black held himself to the weyrling barracks (a candidate no longer!) and reminded him that these were his roommates now.

"I imagine we'll jump right in," T'vil said, responding to S'nis' question. "I can't imagine our dragons will do much more than eat and sleep, but we do have a lot to learn."

“Excitable is a good word for it.” Erieen was sure other people would come up with far worse ways to describe the Reds’ energy. He supposed, in some way, he could understand why… Candidates had died because of their actions. But wasn’t that just one of the dangers of Hatchings anyway? Such young dragon’s couldn’t be blamed for that. At least, not to his way of seeing it.

I’m not something bad, Sayimith growled, picking up on his train of thought, and he was quick to reassure her—trying to test out saying the words in his head, in some expectation she would hear them. //You’re not. But you’re unique. Not everyone will understand that.//

I don’t care what other people think, she answered, in a huff that bore a sense of sleepiness the little Red lady was trying vehemently to ignore. Her response just made Erieen smile as he looked down at her. “I know you don’t.”

Neither of them needed other people. There was a sense of security in that.

He glanced at the other two weyrlings then, and shrugged a shoulder. “I imagine the first day will mostly be introductory. Answering questions and explaining how the training schedule works.” He’d be surprised if they did much more than that, given that dragonets weren’t very active for at least the first week of their lives, beyond eating and sleeping. And with the way Sayimith’s denied exhaustion was weighing on him too, surely the Weyrlingmasters would know they’d not be bound to retain much?
