Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
8.2590 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every 4 or 5 OOC days. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Everyone was bloody insane. It was the only answer Roxalin could see that made sense. Why else would that stupid blue dragon get some mystic mumbo jumbo feeling about her? Why would Gran think it was a GOOD idea to go idle around as a candidate while real work needed to be done on the dock? Most importantly why by the red star had she actually agreed to such a scorching arrangement? Obviously, their minds had been waterlogged from all the rain! Her own included. Pouty lips twitched downward in a further scowl, her steps quick as she hurried across the grounds eager to get out of the rain that had just taken a turn for the heavy.

On the bright side, it hadn't taken long to pack. A few clothes that weren't on her back, an extra pair of sandals, a general map of Fort Island's coastline, as well as an older more detailed map of the northern coast and currents. These few items along with a blanket were dutifully tucked into an old reed basket that had survived the initial move from Tillek. It might have been sad to some. Her whole world fitting comfortably in a basket. But growing up as she had Roxa had never been a materialistic person. Besides if being a candidate was anything like being an apprentice-and Roxa had an inkling it was-then she wouldn't need much anyway.

So with her world tucked in a little basket held snugly in her arms, the Journeywoman fisher turned candidate made quick steps across the Weyrbowl, making a line for the quarters she’d be calling home for the next Turn. Strange to be going back to such basics. But while she wouldn't admit it there was something...maybe... just a bit… thrilling in it all? Yeah. Waterlogged brain for sure.

Rolling pale blue eyes at the overcast sky Roxalin made the last quick steps into the great hall, a wet mess from when the rain had turned fierce. Not that she seemed to mind. The brunettes stride purposeful as she trailed water toward the candidate barracks. A soggy little rain cloud ready to settle herself down.

Or that had been the plan. Glancing down at her small bundle the young woman turned a corner sharply and collided none to gently with a someone-or something-with a soggy squish.

Spoiler for OOC:
*jaws theme music* I'm sorry in advance

Whilst B'ron had no obligation to drill with Beach Wing, he thought at least that today would be a good one. It was dull, dreary and raining, the perfect kind of day for him and his dark demeanour to blend in. Not that he particularly cared about blending in. Everyone would know who he was anyways, so it's not like he was particularly good at hiding. But no, a day like this one was far better than one of those frightfully chirpy summer days with perfect winds and all that crap.

Besides, he enjoyed the efficiency of a well conducted drill, it made him feel good, powerful, to know that there was an entire wing full of competent, productive people, riding on strong and formidable dragons. Besides, Leremith would enjoy it too, even if it wasn't hunting with Jungle Wing, but all in good time. When they were Weyrleader again they could work with whatever bloody wing they wanted.

A fast and purposeful walker, when B'ron too rounded the corner, he didn't assume to be assaulted with wetness. Annoyed, B'ron let out a sound, almost like a growl, down at the person who had run into him. Idiot girl, probably some candidate hoping to impress from one of his clutches. As much as he would have enjoyed watching her bounce off him and go crashing to the ground for her idiocy, it was by almost second nature that B'ron reached out to steady her by the shoulders.

"Hello." He said icily, his face careful not to show too much expression, but blanked from all emotion, including the anger from within. She may have been able to tell to some extent his feelings, but it wouldn't be any more than simple annoyance, annoyance that he was fully entitled to feel since she ran into him.

Arms around her basket and mind drifting Roxaline wasnt exactly prepared when she turned the corner and collided with the dragonrider. A sudden wet impact that had Roxalin hissing out a quick unladylike ‘shards!’ Bouncing back the new candidate was very likely to have ended up on her ass if not for the steadying grab about the shoulders. Not that Roxa looked particularly grateful as surprise turned to annoyance, scowling faintly up at the man who’d ran into her. If B’ron had enough class to largely hide his displeasure the crafter was not so graceful. Irritation plan in the woman's features. Roxa had never possessed a great poker face.

“Hello” the return words ground out as she eyed the man. He looked... vaguely familiar and sure enough the knot of rank clicked some knowledge into place. Though no great difference in the Journeywomans attitude. Until recently Roxa had happily given the dragonriders as wide a berth as could be given. Let them do...well whatever they did! So long as the Hall was left in peace and given what was needed she didn't much care for Weyr politics. Or any politics really. A waste of time that business. Unfortunately agreeing to play candidate meant….dealing with riders again.

Not about to spout an apology-he had run into her!-and not overly worried about getting one she moved to take a step to the side. Her old reed basket choosing that moment to finally give. The bottom dropping out and spilling the fisher crafters belongings at their feet. Whatever attempts at not being in a foul mood abruptly vanished. “Ah fuck a ship fish! This day is completely scorched” Rain. Collisions. Her heirloom breaking. What were the odds this was some awful omen of candidate hood?

Spoiler for Hidden:
I love it. They are such cheery pleasant people and Roxa deserved it. lol Bring on the shark oo;

B'ron couldn't help the raise of his eyebrows at her words, the woman had a vocabulary that was not befitting a woman. Shards he hoped this little snit wouldn't be some Gold Rider he would have to deal with one day, but... he was sure he'd be able to keep her in line.

"You a candidate?" He asked, before bending to help her retrieving her belongings. The Weyrsecond thought she was annoying, ignorant, and uncouth, but that didn't mean that he couldn't pretend otherwise. After all, he had done so well with the entire Weyr for 20 turns, there was no need to stop now. After all, if she was a candidate, she might one day be a dragonrider under his protection when he was Weyrleader again.

When he spotted the maps, he pulled them towards him, making sure the maps were free of any drops of water and placed more carefully inside some of her spare clothes. They were delicate things after all, and they wouldn't do to be lost, not when they might be able to use them one day. Who knew? The whole world could go tumbling down around their ears again.

"Here." B'ron handed the safely wrapped bundle back to her, avoiding saying too much, because otherwise he would probably just growl his annoyance at her existence and stalk off.

Chores this morning were… relatively easy. She’d been helping out the cleaning crew earlier in the day, but then had some small mending to do on clothes for the Junior Weyrwoman so she’d only had to do a couple of hours before she was allowed to head back to the candidate rooms. Cleaning wasn’t exactly hard, but it was tedious, and given her perfectionist nature, it was hard for her not to go over everything the other candidates did when it wasn’t up to her standards.

Mostly she just hummed to herself and kept focussed on her section of work, if she didn’t look at any of the other people, she couldn’t notice flaws in their technique. She could still listen into the conversation and butt in when necessary, but there were plenty of other candidates more suited to holding the conversation… just like she was more suited to doing the job right.

Having spent the morning in no small amount of angst, she felt free as a bird being able to come back to mend. Mending she was good at, it was a single person task, and under normal circumstances there was no one to interrupt. The light, airy feeling came to a screeching halt, however, as she heard the interesting string of phrases in a voice she didn’t recognise, preceded by the clattering of objects hitting the ground. Taking quicker strides, Cabryn turned into the corridor from the other side, ready to offer assistance.

Assistance was already being offered, though, and Cabryn’s polite face fell a little. Swearing, on your own, in an abandoned corridor was one thing, but swearing in front of the Weyrsecond? Manners people! MANNERS! In his usual politeness, the Weyrsecond seemed to pass over it, but Cabryn walked with quick steps to cross the gap nevertheless.

“Oh, good morning Weyrsecond,” she said cheerily, as if she hadn’t overheard, “at least, it’s a good morning to be inside, I’d say.” Good one Cabryn, you’re such a comedian. Turning to the woman she didn’t know, Cabryn’s face faltered once more, only just having notice her drenched state. “Oh, sorry, I guess you can attest to that. Where are you headed? If you’re going this way,” the elder candidate said as she pointed, “we can pass by my room and get you a towel.”

Just because she didn’t think the woman’s sense of propriety was up to her standards, doesn’t mean she was going to let the girl walk around soaked to the bone.

Sailors were not exactly known for their civilized speech. As long as she could remember Roxalin had grown up around fishercrafters. Hard working and the sorts of men and women who were not exactly…. orthodox. Her mother often said it was a symptom of coastal life. To love something as fickle sea left its mark. Or they all had salt on the brain. Likely as much the later as the former. Whatever the cause the rough speech and blunt manner had firmly rubbed off on Roxalin who had never exactly been a meek child to begin with.

“Starting today, off to a soggy ass start too” It all meant the crafter turned candidate wasnt exactly awed by things like rank. Oh she wouldn't go out of her way to be rude...but well Roxalin’s barometer for what was considered ‘rude’ was likely a few degrees off from most. Still when the brunette bent down to franticly save her things B’rons rescue of the maps was appreciated. They were easily the most valuable in a number of ways. Also the most delicate. Taking the maps back from B’ron she eyed the bronzer again. A bit less annoyed. Maybe even a hair appreciative. A hair. “Thanks”

Luckily before Roxalin could further agitate the Weyrsecond or more ill fortune befall her morning-a bloody bad omen it was!-another woman appeared. Bright and pleasant. Reflexively the fisherbrat frowned again. Meeting the smiling candidate with decidedly less cheer. Maybe it was being soaked head to toe, or that her belongings were now piled in her arms. The old basket from the shores of her home reduced to trash. Maybe it was just a natural habit of being a touch contrary. “Going to the candidate barracks, they are this way right?” the slim woman made a vague gesture with her elbow, arms being occupied. She’d been fairly confident of where she was going… but then with the way her morning was going Roxalin wouldn't put it past the day that she’d been going the wrong way.

“And a towel would be ashing lovely if you don’t mind” the brunette added with a touch of exasperation. She loved the water! But being a soggy miserable mess was not the same as a good swim. Squishing every time you moved was just….unpleasant.

Ugh. 'Thanks' not thank you, but 'thanks', how annoying were these new children with their slang and inability to complete words. And 'soggy ass' how becoming of a young woman with those words. He wondered whether she had stolen the maps, after all, they were an important commodity, and the material used wouldn't be one that just anyone would be able to take them when they went to a different profession.

But when the other candidate arrived, B'ron knew he had an out. At least this one was polite, knew her place. And so, it was with a nod to the both of them that he departed, he had nothing else to say to them. Played his part in the whole affair, sized up two prospective dragonriders at that too.

They may not ever impress, but they would always be part of his Weyr. Even those who were in crafts, as long as their little halls were built under the shadow of the Weyr and they were living in his cave systems, they would be in his Weyr.

At least, they would be again soon.

Halirina had an odd appreciation for rain and storms. It meant people stayed in, did what they were told, and largely kept out of trouble. Especially because there wasn’t much to be done out of the weyr. Riders did their drills, Hunters would be tucked away wherever they went when it rained, and… well, things were usually quiet.

Usually.

So she was quite amused when she heard a particularly familiar voice conversing in the tunnels. B’ron was not the most social of men she knew, so Halirina would not have imagined in any scope that he’d have stopped to talk to anyone when there were things he had to do. When she rounded, Halirina saw he had been stopped by…. Well, she couldn’t quite put her thumb on the girl’s names.

Not girls that worked expressly with her, so not weyrfolk. Perhaps crafters. Candidates? Holders? If they were Holders, Halirina idly hoped he was being polite. It seemed he was just about to make his escape too.

“Afternoon ladies,” Halirina greeted, intentionally leaving B’ron for second. “Weyrsecond. A fine day we’re having, hm?” Her gaze swept over B’ron, her interest obviously rapt on him even if she’d left him for second. “I’ve always found rainy days like this fine days to get work done.” Only then did she look at the other two, trying to figure out who they were.

Attempting to ignore the less than impressive, and a little odd, language used, with only the briefest glance to the Weyrsecond to see if he was offended, Cabryn just smiled through it, even if the woman didn’t smile back. Naturally contrary women were nothing compared to the terror of two turn olds in Cabryn’s mind, so it didn’t bother her… much. Although, given being drenched and having dropped all her things right in front of the Weyrsecond, she found a little more sympathy for Roxalin.

“They are that way, do you know which room you’re in? I’m in 6, with Oarlen, who I’m sure will be excited to meet you. Uhh, do you want help carrying anything?” Added Cabryn with a small nod/bow to the Weyrsecond as he departed, a little regretful that he hadn’t talked to her, but thankful that she and Roxalin could make it to the barracks without offence.

At least, that’s what she’d thought.

Distracted between the soggy state of her newest fellow candidate and the silent exit of the Weyrsecond, she totally missed the arrival of the Weyrwoman, not really recognising the voice at first either. Twisting her head a little lazily in the new voice’s direction, it might’ve been quite comical to see the change of pace in which her body followed upon recognition.

With another half nod, half bow, she added “good afternoon Weyrwoman,” a tad breathlessly. Although most candidates had met Vanelwynne, it wasn’t exactly commonplace for Cabryn to meet Halirina, and given that she’d already met the Weyrsecond that morning, the elder candidate felt like she needed a coronary. Maybe, possibly, one day, she’d be able to meet the leaders of the Weyr without having heart palpitations, she’d almost reached that point with Vanelwynne after a turn and a half of candidacy and some mending, but it was a fair way off for the two riders in her presence currently.

Mistaking the Weyrwoman’s look to them as an expectation to speak, even though her attention was seemably rapt on the Weyrsecond, Cabryn opened her mouth to speak, then abruptly closed it again. Technically, her question had been to him, and it would be rude to talk over him. Instead, her gaze just flicked between the two, back and forth.

When in doubt, it’s best to wait, in silence, or ask politely. Given asking to speak would seem even more stupid than just waiting, if she was wrong, silence was the better option. Hell, even if the Weyrwoman thought she was just too nervous to speak, she wouldn’t be too far off. There were worse things to be than scared of a Weyrwoman, and Cabryn wasn’t game for being wrong in this crowd, this early in the morning.

Things were (sort of?) looking up. She was still wet and grouchy but Roxalin was always a touch grumpy. At least her belongings were no longer on the floor. Progress. Of an incremental sort. Glancing over the bundle of clothing and maps in her arms it all seemed alright. None of the wetter bits having got to the papers. The Weyrsecond had covered the maps nicely and everything else could be hung to dry. No great loss there.

Another incremental blessing? Apparently, she wasn't headed in the wrong direction! Though when the other candidate asked for her room assignment Roxa wrinkled her nose as she thought back to what she’d been told. Some bits she’d heard on candidacy reminded the brunette of apprenticeship while others… well, she’d never lived in co-ed bunks in the Hall! It was undeniably a bit...weird. But then Weyrfolk were a fish of a different color. Might as well get used to it.  “Oh. I’m in room 9” the former fisher offered after a beat. So she wouldn't be rooming with the other candidate. Shame, despite being a bit too cheerful the other girl didn't seem awful. “You mind grabbin the basket? It’s scorched but I don’t wanna leave it for someone else to trip over” Roxalin explained. Shame. The bloody thing was older than her and as far as she could tell the last bit her family had brought with them from their cothold. Shards it had nearly outlived the whole family if not for her and a stubborn old woman.

Further chatter was interrupted when a woman swept into the hall. Though Roxalin tried not to meddle in Weyr politics it was damn impossible to NOT know who the older blonde haired woman was. Not just because of her knots but because she’d been one of the few constants in the every changing structure of Pern.

In another timeline, the morning's events would have set Roxalin howling with laughter. Meeting the Weyrsecond and Weyrwoman within a matter of minutes-and looking like a drowned wherry the entire time! The sort of luck that was amazing as it was rotten. As it was the short candidate nodded her head and offered a crisp  “Hello”. Not seeming very anxious to be standing there soaked and soggy with her belongings in her arms. What? It was storming. The gold rider had said it herself! Those pale blue eyes flicked to her more breathless companion. Funny that out of the two of them Cabryn seemed like she was more ready to melt into a puddle. The thought almost made Roxa grin. Almost.

Not a stickler for etiquette the slight between the Weyrwoman and the Weyrsecond went unnoticed to the candidate. Politics were not one of her strong suits. More inclined toward the use of a hammer than a scalpel. Not that either seemed needed at the moment. At least for those further down on the Weyrs totem pole. “So long as you can stay inside for work or are waterproof Weyrwoman” the candidate offered with a touch of humor in her tone as she lifted her wet bundle slightly for emphasis before giving Cabryn a little nudge with her elbow. For someone who looked dry she was acting a bit waterlogged.
