Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

The Sky Calls [ 16.9.2590 / 7:10PM ] Flight
« on: September 14, 2017, 02:55:59 PM »
From the moment A’yara had rolled out of Z’ryr’s bed, she knew the day was going to be a trying one for her sweet Deltiath. She said as much to her brother as she slowly got dressed, watching her already alert Green who eyed the sky longingly with a purple lined gaze.

Oh yeah. It was going to be a long day.

All Deltiath wanted to do was fly. Breakfast was boring and had the Green doing lazy laps around the weyrbowl, idly flying because she knew better than to go any higher. Any more and she’d just go. Leave the weyr behind and fly as far and as fast as her wings would carry her.

Not yet. So she pouted at A’yara and flapped around like a petulant child. Dragon drills were just as trying. Deltiath already struggled with paying attention and she just didn’t care about Thread drills. Or moving in formation. A’yara’s exasperation quickly turned to irritation when they fouled up a movement, earning them a sharp reprimand. At least that focused Deltiath for the rest of the drill. A private word from the Wingsecond, asking if they were capable of hunting sharpened A’yara’s ire and drove home to Deltiath that she couldn’t keep staring at the sky. Not yet.

The focus lasted all of the first bout of hunting. Then she was back to pouting and flapping around for lunch. At this point, A’yara was down right waspish. She ate alone, in the weyrbowl, and glared at her dragon. They couldn’t go yet, A’yara reiterated over and over. It was like having to explain to a two turn old that tunnelsnakes were bad as they chased them down and tried to pet them. Repeatedly. Then got bit anyways.

Another firm, almost snappy conversation with her dragon before hunting had Deltiath’s focus on the task at hand. Just barely. A’yara could feel the urge to go every time they pulled up out of the jungle, and it wasn’t just Deltiath’s anymore.

Fuckin’ flights.

Rider drills were torture. A’yara pushed herself as much as she could to drown out Deltiath’s complaints as her damned, obnoxious, whiny dragon flew in lazy circles or clawed restlessly at the mountain. Can we go now? What about now? Do you really have to run now? This is boring. I want to fly. It was incessant and never ending. All that A’yara could do to not trip up and fall on her face running.

If anyone other than her Wingseconds or Wingleader said anything to her, she didn’t hear them.

The end of the Rider drills couldn’t come fast enough. When it was over, A’yara dashed to her weyr, pulling at her riding gear, and Deltiath launched herself up and out of the weyrbowl with a bugle of relief and excitement. Finally. A wordless, electric thrill washed over the weyr as she was finally set free for her Flight. Deltiath didn’t croon or call out mentally, she just wanted to fly! Anyone with half a brain would know why she’d shot up and into the air, and if they weren’t watching her, they’d certainly feel the telltale signs of a Green taking Flight.

Spoiler for OOC:
Dis be an open flight. ^_^ Jungle Bronzers need not apply, and they probably know this by now. Y'tol be the exception for previous IC reasons. <3

I’ll be getting another response up either late tonight ( my time ) or tomorrow morning depending on responses. ^_^ Enjoy.

The day had been a successful one, most things considered. It hadn’t rained today, he’d found some positive-looking samples to give to Mountain’s Wingsecond, and he’d be able to visit his children at the crèche tonight.

None of that stopped him from feeling claustrophobic at the Weyr. The walk to his Wingsecond’s office had been filled with people bustling about. Perhaps it was the time of day that he was actually here, but he hadn’t remembered it being this crowded. Or was it just getting worse? There was something to be said for the freedom of Mountain Wing. He wouldn’t trade sleeping under the night sky with Astaroth for anything.

Not only did he prefer some space, but it was always so damned hot down here. Add in hundreds of people and he felt like he was baking with them. N’iko hurriedly began to unlace his leathers and dodged through the crowd of the Weyr Hall. He just needed to see his kids before they went to sleep for the night and then he could eat something. By that time, the dinner rush should be over as well.

N’iko felt his heart begin to race and he threw his hand out to the nearest wall to lean against. The cool stone felt wonderful against his skin. So good that he debated stripping everything off and just pressing himself against it. Definitely worth it if he could absorb some of that coolness. And he just might’ve if he hadn’t realized what was happening to him. Overheating was certainly something his body did, but he knew the difference between that and a flight. Someone must have risen. And Astaroth, the horny bronze he was, likely took off after her without a word or warning.

Who is it? For a moment there was a long pause, then the bronze replied with a terse, Deltiath. N’iko paused, trying to mentally assign the rider’s name to the dragon with a list of puzzle pieces. Ah, A’yara of Jungle Wing. Fortunatley, he could walk to her weyr. Unfortunately, he was going to have to, because the hulk of a bronze was already airborne.

He worked swiftly while he walked, removing the belts and leathers and cotton shirt from his torso so his skin could at least breathe fresh air. He tossed them over his shoulder just as he entered her weyr.

Astaroth had nearly jumped into the air with excitement when he heard the bugle and saw the green take off. They were hardly around for flights—and he’d been denied them for most of his Turns—that this was not an event he intended on being late to. He would need a head start if any smaller, speedier dragons joined the chase. His size put him at a disadvantage for green flights. He had the stamina for Golds, but not the speed to stay in the front of the pack with greens. He was fortunately agile for his size, which he hoped to use with cunning to catch this one. I will chase you, Deltiath. Let’s have some fun, the honey bronze challenged.

Y'tol had definitely not missed A'yara and Deltiath's dilemma all throughout the day, so all that lay to him now was to sit and wait patiently for A'yara to let her dragon go. It showed a lot of control over the green. He knew of many who wouldn't even bother to wait for the days work to end before they let their green fly. But he already knew that he liked A'yara, there wasn't anything new about that.

Bayorth however, refused to be distracted by a pretty almost-rising green pair. He'd pay attention when she rose, and not before. Before that had work to do, hunting to finish, things to concentrate on. When and only when she decided to rise, would Bayorth switch it on.

Throughout the rider drills, Y'tol couldn't help passing a few glances in A'yara's direction, wondering at the strength of her resolve. She really was going to hold out until the very end. The other Jungle Riders didn't seem to be paying much attention, all had been around long enough to know that the green pair didn't favour their own wing when it came to flights or other sexual exploits.

Y'tol couldn't blame her of course, most of their wing were a bunch of uptight snobs, but Y'tol liked them none the less. Each to their own, A'yara was perfectly entitled to choose where she would, the fact that Y'tol had been an exception to her mostly unspoken rule was a happy coincidence.

Surely she must be rising soon. Bayorth grumbled, as he touched down on the Weyrbowl to pick Y'tol up.

Oh so you are paying atten- She's up.

But Bayorth was ahead of him already, diverting their path towards A'yara's Weyr instead of their own. It might be a smelly Weyr when the rest of the rider's arrived, not that Y'tol would complain. A bit of sweat never did anyone any harm.

Bayorth, as he pushed off from the Weyr ledge to follow into the sky, was undergoing a change from his usually... angry demeanour. He certainly knew how to work a woman that was for sure. A happy bugle was sent in Deltiath's direction, and since she didn't call with words, he didn't respond with them either. He was here, he would chase, that was all anyone needed to know.

Z’tai’s fingers scratched at the stubble beginning to form along his jaw. He was never quite sure what to think of it whenever he waited so long that a shadow began to fill in. Ordinarily, he’d have shaved it long before this point. He was convinced the women preferred a smooth face. Which then made him think of W’sar and his beard. How did he fair with the ladies? As much as he tried to picture the man with a woman, he couldn’t. Then again, he hardly saw the other Wingleader to really get an apt image of him unless he was doing Weyr business.

His fingers rubbed his jawline again, this time really feeling the short hairs prickling against him. It had…potential. Am I washing myself tonight? The Prairie Wingleader blinked and dropped his hand. “I guess I was getting a bit carried away there,” he laughed while leaning back. If it bothers you so much then get rid of it. “I probably will, but it couldn’t hurt to consider a change.” Z’tai walked up to Jenrath and patted his hide. He would’ve scratched the bronze’s eye ridge if he didn’t seem to be in a bit of a mood tonight.

There are more important things for you to worry about as Wingleader than some hair on your face. Z’tai smiled. Well, Jenrath was never really in a happy or fun mood, so this was…normal. And here he’d eaten something small for dinner so he would be able to bathe and oil Jenrath tonight. “Of course there is, but I can’t spend every waking hour of every day worrying about that. I have to have fun in life sometimes too. Oh look—” The bronze rider pointed to the sky just as a green took off. “There’s some fun for you.”

The bronze crouched without a word, but the speed at which he moved was enough indication to Z’tai that he was anxious to join the flight. The flight to the rider’s weyr was brief and silent, before Z’tai was deposited at the ledge. Good luck, he mentally cheered his bronze, before moving deeper into the weyr and finding a comfortable spot to ride out the fun of a flight.

Jenrath wasted no time in joining the others. It seemed bronzes were the first to respond so far, but his attention left them the moment he spotted the green. His wings beat through the air in powerful strokes, bringing himself into the fold of the flight.

Polanth was nothing if not a dutiful and serious dragon. So with as focused as he was on Beach’s Wing duties for the day, and the distance between themselves and Jungle Wing, he didn’t really notice on a conscious level that Deltiath was agitated and impatient all day. If anything, there might have been a faint undercurrent of waspishness and impatience to him as well, on a subconscious level—but even M’rek wasn’t inclined to notice it, given that his dragon was almost always that way regardless.

But almost as soon as their shift of fishing was done, M’rek sensed a change in the Bronze. His attention shifted immediately to the sky, drawn by something that his rider quickly recognized as the pull of a Flight. Well. It seemed he’d be eating a bit of a late dinner, then.

The two had landed just inside the Bowl, but M’rek didn’t bother to dismount since Polanth was just going to have to ferry him to the Green rider’s weyr regardless. //Do you recognize who it is?//

There’d been a fair amount of weyrling Flights recently, which Polanth often didn’t bother to rise for. What interest did he have in inexperienced Greens? But there didn’t seem to be any lessening of his interest. Instead, there was a hint of wry amusement to his tone when he answered. Deltiath and A’yara.

A revelation which had M’rek grinning, even as he tightened his grip on the saddle as his Bronze took to the air again to drop him at the woman’s weyr. //Well, this will be interesting.//

They arrived shortly, and he unclipped himself from the straps to slide down Polanth’s shoulder. A few others had gathered already, including the familiar faces of Y’tol and Z’tai. Interesting indeed.

Polanth had ever preferred the Greens that didn’t demand he sing them some sweet song of pretty words and platitudes. No, he’d much rather prove himself by his own merit rather than sentimental wooing. So he wound higher in the darkening sky, intent on chasing pretty Deltiath and ignoring all of the other contenders. They meant nothing to him—all of his attention was focused on the Green and the pull of her desire.

I'ryn walked across the weyr bowl, intent on heading down the bathing caverns to wash the the smell of salt and fish off of his skin. He was used to it by now, the slime and oil from their catch stuck in his fishing clothes (goodbye to that shirt ever smelling pleasant), in his hair, and probably in places he didn't want it. That being said, there were people around the weyr who didn't want to smell the literal sea creatures on his person, so he attempted to clean himself.

Until Syrilth's plaintive whine filled his mind and made I'ryn stop halfway to the springs. //No.//

I must give chase... Cursing his dragon, I'ryn turned around and booked it to the weyr bowl only to see his dragon launching into the sky.

//Syrilth!// he shouted, raising both hands in disbelief. Now how the hell was he supposed to get to whatever rider's weyr for this thing?

It is Deltiath of A'yara, the bronze supplied as he raced to catch up to the other suitors. She is on the ground. I chase. You go. I'ryn let instinct lead him to the weyr where he hoped he'd be in the right place. The small collection of men inside of one ground weyr confirmed his suspicions, leading him to find a place against a wall.

Syrilth rode into the night, catching up with the other dragons who had leaped into the sky as soon as Deltiath took flight. Having what felt like a true chase, like this? This was fun.

A’yara pretty much stumbled to her weyr. Thankfully, she could’ve made her way there with her eyes closed, hopping on one leg. Which she pretty much did since she was tearing at her riding leathers on the way. Clothes had to be off.

It didn’t help that her vision kept getting blurred with the sky, the oranges and pale blues of the evening sky did not mesh well with the cool, glow lit tunnels.

Fuck it. Get to the weyr.

She made it as Deltiath twirled and bugled again. Not to anyone in particular. She didn’t care about them yet. Not until A’yara was in her weyr and disheveled from her less than graceful path there. She’d have to find her riding leather is the tunnels outside her weyr too.

That was so far from both their minds though since it’d seemed a handful of very welcomed Bronzers had been hot on A’yara’s tail.

Deltiath’s too. Only when the Rider noticed the men in her weyr did the dragon become aware of her pursuers. Wordlessly, Deltiath thrummed and twirled in the air high above the weyr. If they wanted to play with her, she was game. Eyes a brilliant shade of purple, she rolled back and dove past them all. A bright green streak in the evening sky, she crashed through those that chased after her. Letting gravity pull her fast to the ground, toward the weyrbowl, before flaring her wings before she really entered the cradle of the weyrbowl.

She didn’t want to really be there, but the dive gave her so much speed and she was off again. Willing those that wanted to play with her to follow and those that didn’t, or couldn’t keep up, to fall from her thoughts.

Spoiler for OOC:
Aaayyy dragon dives, yo.  Next post will probably be sometime laaaate tonight, if I get to it tonight. <3 If you missed the first round, no harm no foul. Jump in there if you're feelin' frisky.

Vestanna liked fishing, and appreciated the experience of just lingering after official duties were over, letting Belzyth enjoy the water as safely as he could, enjoying the air when it was finally relatively dark out and not risking her skin frying. But she also enjoyed washing the salt off after time near the water was over, and had been heading toward the bathing cavern herself when Belzyth's attention was caught.

Usually after wing duties Belzyth was taking a nap, so it was a surprise to Vess. // What is it? //

Green rising, the blue shot back, sounding like he was rousing from the start of some rest. Good-naturedly, though. He was clearly pleased by the interruption. Deltiath. She's pretty and her flying is expert.

// Someone speedy enough you consider worth the chase? //

Sure thing.

Also a sure thing: that he wasn't going to leave her behind and let her miss out on the, er, fun. Vestanna didn't really consider flight hormones the most enjoyable, but there were many worse ways to be spending her night. If only she had something bubbly to drink as well, but no matter; by the time Belzyth dropped her off on A'yara's ledge, she was tipsy on feelings.

Then Belzyth was off like a shot, never holding back on the speed. He assumed his speed and endurance were ahead of some of the others', and that he didn't have to hang back in the beginning and save his energy. He also assumed energy-saving was stupid, because it wasn't anywhere near as worth it as just going all out there with the fancy flying tricks was.

As Deltiath dove, he followed; he did a barrell roll of his own, letting out a croon of delight. It wasn't a flirty croon, though it kept the green's inspiration of his moves in mind -- it was a croon just because this was awesome. Flights with dragons that really knew how to shake it up, that was a good time.

Vestanna eyed the others thoughtfully at first, and didn't waste long in pulling off her sea-salty, sticky top. It wasn't like she was naked under it (not by much), and it also wasn't like there wasn't going to be clothing-optional time here among some of these people soon. Anyone who looked at her just got a playful grin, a little bit of a finger waggle -- even if for her Wingleader it also came with a little bit of a head-duck.

Once N’iko made it to the green rider’s weyr, he picked a spot and dropped the clothes he’d stripped off onto the ground. He didn’t need anything weighing him down when it might very well take speed to catch the green dancing and twirling before him. Of course, a part of him knew that a burden on his person wouldn’t affect Astaroth’s performance in the slightest, but he’d become swept up in the flight by the time he’d reached the weyr that that sort of reason no longer needed to exist.

All that mattered was catching the vibrant green.

For as much as he disliked being at the Weyr, he couldn’t deny his enjoyment of flights. He’d spent most of his life as a dragon rider not participating, and then joining Mountain Wing often found him missing out on a majority of flights. So when he and Astaroth did participate, it held the same thrall as the first one. He was easily overtaken by Astaroth, and the moment he’d dropped his clothes to the floor he was lost to the dusk sky.

He was surrounded by the soft colors of dusk and felt freer than any time before. He and Astaroth as one, flying through the sky as if it belonged to them.

As did anything else in their domain.

The honey bronze pivoted downward the moment she dropped, using his agility to keep from losing his position behind her. Her dive gave her more speed and he could see her begin to gain distance between them. It did nothing to shake his confidence. This was just the beginning, and he had time and wit to win this challenge. She pulled up from her dive and was off again, and he effortlessly changed directions to follow her trail.

Z’tai smiled to himself as the room filled primarily with bronze riders. He would’ve teased Jenrath if it were the time or the place for it, but instead he kept any thoughts to himself and settled in for the flight. He leaned back against the wall and closed his eyes. It was always easier to join with Jenrath this way than to let his eyes distract him should anything—distracting—occur.

The naked green rider, in particular, could always be distracting. And then there was always the curiosity of the contenders.

So, yes, eyes closed. Jenrath would eat him if he screwed up a flight for him. The dark bronze was far from a romantic or smooth when it came to trying to woo greens. He was always so damned serious and…flat…that a flight was really his best chance at getting a green to look at him.

Z’tai stopped fighting the pull of the flight and finally submitted to it just in time for Deltiath to begin taking this flight seriously. Jenrath swerved and dove after her. His wings clamped tightly around himself as he angled downward to get the best speed for his size. Experience told him to be wary of her ending the dive without warning, and he adjusted himself to be prepared to spring his wings out at a moment’s notice. He patiently waited for it, even as the weyrbowl came racing toward them.

Then she flared her wings out and he instantly followed suit. His wings flew open to catch himself before they were already pumping and pushing at the air to propel himself after her in another direction.

Watching Deltiath’s twirls in the air was alluring, further proof that she would be a lovely partner for the night if he succeeded in catching her. Spiraling after her, Polanth dove toward the Weyr Bowl when she did. But rather than follow her completely into the downward arc, the pursuing Bronze pulled up before the Green did. He knew she would have to rise eventually; and with his own far more considerable bulk, he could lose precious time and space trying to follow her trajectory so closely.

No, he gambled on the knowledge that she would have to rise once again. And fast she may be, but he was trusting that his larger wingspan would give him distance on her when it counted. But he would have to impress her first.

Polanth might not normally be a dragon given over to showy displays of aerial skill. He was more straightforward, less playful. But even he could be coaxed to showmanship on occasion. So in this instance, dark feet tucked in close to his body, he rolled in the air as he chased her, spinning in a tight corkscrew that gave him more momentum without the drag of outstretched wings. It was more lateral, intending to intercept and then chase her as she continued to shoot higher in the sky—but ideally, it would mean he was using his size and bulk to his advantage rather than as a hindrance.

The longer the Flight went on, the less M’rek was aware of what was going on in A’yara’s weyr around him, beyond his attention on the Green rider herself. But he did catch a glimpse of Vestanna grinning, already half undressed. In another moment, he might have responded more playfully too. But now, with Polanth so focused on the pretty Green he was chasing into the darkening sky, his rider had little attention left over for such things.

Maybe later, if Polanth did not succeed. But for now he had a Green to catch.

Bayorth was enjoying this flight for once, and when she dove back through their ranks, he trumpeted his excitement. Well this was actually going to be a challenge for once, none of these young, inexperienced greens, nor the Golds who were far too serious for their own good. Only thinking about the biggest and the best, and then not choosing him.

Diving after her, he tucked his large wings against his back to minimise his drag and speed towards her tail. He was a little too large to do it effectively, and his drop really wasn't as successful as he wished it to be. But if she was going to play with them, Bayorth would answer, if that's what she wanted. Not because he liked her overly much, but because he wanted to win. If he had to impress her to do that, so be it.

Still being quite far above her, Bayorth saw her change of movement with enough time to flare his wings. He didn't change his direction immediately however, instead, letting his large wings cup the air and bring him to an impressive arrest of momentum. Bayorth only allowed himself to wallow momentarily, before he spun to follow Deltiath again, waiting for her next move.

Y'tol on the other hand, grinned at all the fellows around him. A'yara had achieved quite a nice turn out, although perhaps only choosing one of them would be a little disappointing for her. He tried to avoid winking at M'rek at that thought, managing to contain himself.

Stripping off his rider jacket, he flung it off to one side, something he could easily retrieve later, but for now he just wanted a little relief from the endless heat.

If it were up to A’yara, they could all stay. It was at the end of the day, there wasn’t anything else to call them away so they’d have plenty of time, and she’d have a blast. So many handsome men, a fair few she knew were fun. Some she’d like to try out.

If she had it her way.. If she had the presence of mind to direct Deltiath. But this was her Green’s moment and her dragon’s turn to choose.

While Deltiath was certainly flying away from them, she wasn’t expressly doing it for that purpose. It was a game to her. Not just one of ‘come get me’, but ‘let’s have fun doing it’. It was already a given the large bronzes would outlast her and, were this a force catch, her flight away from them might’ve been more desperate. More precise in their movements away. But rather, her attention on her suitors was beginning to increase.

The sky had called her, but it would be one of the males around her that would invariably claim her. So she watched and thrummed when they acted out for her. A barrel roll from the Blue thrilled her and the corkscrew from a bronze had her letting out another bugle to the sky as she shot higher and higher, using the momentum from the dive to give her all the lift she needed.

Then, as if to answer their antics herselft, Deltiath tucked her wings in and rolled forward in the air. She lost speed and lift doing so, but what did she care? It was fun!

Spoiler for OOC:
I'm thinkin' one more round, yeah? Short green flights be short. My last post will be... laaate tonight / when I get up tomorrow. <3

Belzyth's crazy-but-cool sky antics continued, and as he tried out a 'spinning while simultaneously climbing upward' routine Vestanna's stomach lurked and she had to press her eyes shut. Pity, because she was enjoying looking at everyone else looking as lustful, silly and stupid as she was ... but vomiting in a room of handsome bronzeriders and one gorgeous greenrider was possibly the worst idea ever.

// I realize you want to win or just enjoy yourself as much as possible and preferably both but I like not feeling like I'm about to faint // fell on deaf mental ears, as Belzyth was completely ignoring her.

He was busy.

Busy bugling 'applause' for Deltiath's stunts, and trying to see if he could circle around where she was doing her forward rolls, maybe come in for a closer view? A good sky-cuddle combined with some more rolling?

The playful antics of the flying green were not lost on Astaroth. The others around him began to give their own twists and twirls as if they were all responding with sort of playful, yet competitive, body language. The honey bronze didn’t waste another moment to join in. If this was what the green wanted in her chosen partner for the night, then he would gladly do so.

She turned upward, beginning to climb and Astaroth used a flip and spin to change directions after her. He moved and swayed in the air behind her, as if dancing with the sky as his partner while they rose higher and higher. It didn’t matter that he was losing speed with each move he made. This was different from a force catch where it was the strongest or most cunning to win. This was a playful seduction.

He let out a low croon, as if setting his moves to a bit of music as he danced for her. There was no challenge that he or N’iko wouldn’t take on, and this would be no different. If she wanted to have fun, then that was what they would do.

Of all the possible descriptors Z’tai would use for his bonded, ‘fun’ wasn’t one of them. When they realized what the green was expecting from them, Jenrath still did nothing. He used the silly moves of the others to help himself close the distance between himself and Deltiath. He would win the flight the normal way you’d win a flight: through skill and experience.

Fun, Jenrath. Have some fun. The dark bronze seemed to ignore his bonded, but it was difficult to block out the mental and emotional pushes toward doing something different. They were one, and Z’tai used that to his advantage to try and encourage Jenrath to do something daring or different. He had just been telling him that it was good to have fun once in awhile. Whether or not they won this flight, if he could get Jenrath to have some fun during it, then it would be worth it.

Jenrath continued after her with more vigor after her most recent trick that slowed her further. Whether through Z’tai’s strong connection to him or in his strong desire to win, he twirled upward. It was…well, it was a sad display of fun considering he looked a bit strange being so large and turning all the way around so slowly rather than a quick, tight twirl. But for Z’tai, it was something and more than he had expected, so he mentally cheered Jenrath on to keep going. The more practice with having fun, the easier it would eventually be.

In a way, Flights like this were more of a challenge for Polanth than straightforward Force Catches. With Greens that wanted to be won with flashy maneuvers, his size was often more of a disadvantage than a boon, since he would never be able to execute the tight corkscrews or crazy loops that a Blue or even a small Brown might. Nor was it in his nature to do such thing regardless. So unlike some of the more playful Bronzes in the Weyr, Polanth was rather unfamiliar with the kind of airy dance Deltiath wanted from them now.

But he was still determined to do his best. So when his antics earned an appreciative bugle from the bright Green, he took it as a good sign. Thrumming back to her when she executed her own forward roll, Polanth spinned in the air again, rolling in such a way that would no doubt cut his momentum. But since the aim of the game wasn’t just to snatch her out of the sky, he felt it was both warranted and worth it.

The move was made on a diagonal, intending to put him closer to Deltiath herself whist dodging the potential maneuvers of the other chasers. Proximity might still be an advantage—proving to her that he could keep pace and impress her at the same time. However, colliding with another of the males was not on his agenda for the evening.

Bayorth had never actually wanted to give anyone what they wanted, but he was manipulative enough to do so when he thought it would benefit him, and winning this flight would surely benefit him.

Quite impressed by her forward roll, Bayorth knew however, that he didn't have a hope of mimicing the move, instead, as he sped after her, he corkscrewed through the air, attempting to both show off his talents, and give her the playful flight that she seemed to want.

Maybe the ridiculous blue was on track for winning this instead, with his obnoxious bugling applause that paled in comparison to the own bugles he had emitted earlier.

The corkscrew had brought him closer on her tail perhaps, but Bayorth was not without competition. Whilst all the other males had lost ground with their responses to Deltiath, show had she with her constant rolling through the air. She would have a choice of many when she eventually turned to choose her winner.

Deltiath was a green motivated by fun as much as her Flight Lust. Being able to be far choosier than a Gold, she wasn’t trying to get away from them so much as just flying and twirling. Flipping and dancing in the air. If she lost speed and momentum, Deltiath didn’t really mind. No one was going to snatch her from the sky unless she wanted them to.

That was the thing about Flights such as hers. She picked.

She wasn’t trying to taunt them into taking her, into catching her. Rather, she’d been trying to inspire them into playing with her the whole time without words. Now wasn’t a time for conversation, after all, and she wasn’t a wordy dragon to begin with.

So she appreciated the Blue’s antics and his bugles. But most of the Bronzes were slow on the uptake. Taking the Flight too serious for her, so she immediately lost interest rather quick. Even their late attempts at drawing her eye were so far gone.

Except Polanth. She knew him. Knew his name and trilled her approval when even he sought to play her game, as he had from the start. He was hardly graceful, like she was or even the Blue, but his attempts in and of itself had her humor soaring as high as she was.

With a decision between, ultimately, the bronze who had opted to play with her from the beginning, and the good natured Blue, Deltiath’s decision-making was very simple and straightforward. She rolled in the air and whoever she collided with first.

That just happened to be Polanth, since he’d angled himself to be close to her to begin with. Hopefully his reflexes were sharp and on point, otherwise he was likely to either falter in the air, foul up their wings, or just not catch her. Anything was fine with her, but Deltiath was counting on him simply catching her.

A’yara was already sitting on the corner of her bed, so long is Deltiath that she wouldn’t have been able to distinguish M’rek from any other Rider that might have touched her save he was the only one allowed at this point.

Spoiler for OOC:
Thanks for all the terribly amusing posts, Gais. Random flip between those attempting to play with Deltiath the longest determined Polanth would be the winner. <3 But it’s been a fun, albeit short, green flight. <3

Polanth knew that his efforts were clumsy at best. And had it been a worse-tempered Green, he might not have made such an effort at all. But Deltiath was a sweet creature in her own way, just wanting to enjoy her time in the air and the attention of males who would seek to woo her and play her little game. He’d once teased his rider mercilessly, considering the circumstances by which M’rek had been in bed with A’yara in the first place. But Deltiath was a dragon the somewhat sour, arrogant Bronze actually liked.

Which counted for a lot. So here he was, playing with her as best he could in ways that otherwise might have made him seem like a fool. For a Flight, though, it could be excused.

For the first split second when Deltiath rolled toward him, Polanth thought he had misjudged—that his trajectory was going to make them collide, and thus truly knock him out of contention for catching her. But that didn’t seem to be the case; not when the bright-hided Green had been self-aware of her motions so far, and sure not to cut off any of her pursuers nor interfere with their movements. So the fact that she’d rolled toward him and showed no signs of pulling away could mean only one thing.

Flaring his wide wings, the Bronze caught an updraft just enough to lift himself over Deltiath once she was in position below him, her roll carrying her until she was level once more and just beneath him. He crooned to her then, a deep and rumbling thrum that carried no words with it, just the pleased sensation that she had chosen him. And then he was on her, claws fastening against her shoulders as he pulled her to him, his large wings spread far to slow their descent into a long and easy glide.

Deltiath was his.

Everything else in his awareness fell away, just as it did in M’rek’s too. All he knew was that he had to go to her, pulling A’yara close to him as Polanth had done with her dragon. The details of bed, remaining clothes, the other riders still in the room—all things that didn’t concern him, save that it was a soft surface to pull her back onto, that his pants were shoved off so he could be against her skin to skin, and that the others would be dispersing to find their own partners.

His mouth was rough on A’yara’s as he kissed her, wanting, but just as Polanth was determined to give Deltiath a long and enjoyable Flight, so was he.

A’yara didn’t choose who her dragon picked and, for flights, she didn’t really care. Flights were a chance for fun, for a rough and tumble, and a momentary respite from the day. When it was all said and done, she’d have to roll out of her bedfurs, dress, and get back to whatever it was she was supposed to be doing.

Not quite like it didn’t happen, but almost. Vaguely, she was aware it was M’rek. That she knew him, that they’d been together before. Then, in that moment, it just didn’t matter. This wasn’t a familiar, fun lay, but the rush, the frenzied want of a Flight. A twist of pleasure she felt through Deltiath mixed with the press of M’rek against her. It was a weird, exhilarating, fun time. A shame that A’yara wouldn’t remember most of what she and M’rek really did – and that she was intimately aware of what Deltiath and Polanth did.

~*~ Some time later ~*~

Coming to after a Flight was always an experience. Like waking up after being drunk and still feeling the lingering effects of the alcohol – but there was no headache, no deep thirst, just a bone wary ache after a good romp. And sometimes telling bruises on her hips and thighs if her partner was particularly strong.

Oddly enough, A’yara’s back rarely bothered her after a Flight or sex. She liked to think it was the release of her muscles that worked out the tension and allowed her to just feel… relaxed. As she did now, waking up in her familiar, comfortable bed with an oh so warm body next to her.

Flight groggy and unwilling to return to reality, A’yara hooked her leg around M’rek’s hip and nestled closer. It was in the evening, they didn’t have anywhere to be… Maybe he’d linger tonight. Then she wouldn’t have to go bother her brother.

Ooo. Maybe she could call Y’tol and they could all relax together. There was nothing so fun as being with both bronzers when she was awake and aware for it. If he wasn't already busy. If M'rek wouldn't object. A'yara did so love attention.

Evening Flights were his favorite. There was nothing wrong with a quick romp during the morning or the day, but so often it meant he had to be quick and go back to work afterward; unless they were lucky enough to get most of the day off for a Gold Flight, it wasn’t often that riders got much time to relax while the sun was still up.

But the evenings were there time. And when a Green was able to hold off her Flight until after drills and duties, it usually meant they could take their time, even languish until the next morning if his partner and he both felt so inclined. So it was only lazily that he stirred when A’yara shifted against him, snuggling closer with one leg draped over his hip. Warm and comfortable, he hooked his arm more tightly around her and yawned softly.

More often that not, moments like this didn’t require any speaking at all. And with Polanth sated and happy nestled with Deltiath, M’rek was loathe to ruin the silence. Vaguely, he could hear the sounds of the Weyr at night from beyond in the Bowl—but the night was still, with no catastrophes or dangers to snag their attention away.

It was peaceful, even.

Rather than talk, he contented himself with absently tangling his fingers in A’yara’s hair, playing with the strands of it while they laid there together. As long as she let him stay in her bed, he would.

He had nowhere else to be.

A’yara decided she liked M’rek. He was comfortable, quiet, and doted on her when they actually spent time together. More than that, he didn’t smother her either. Not the typical bronzer. She studied him in the shadows of her room and smiled a little when he played with her hair.

She’d make a point to sleep with him more often if he would be so amicable.

A’yara hated to sleep alone and if he wasn’t going to leave her bed, she wasn’t about to chase him away. Quite the opposite. Making a pleased sound, A’yara slid onto him. Straddling his hips and laying on M’rek so she could pillow her head on his chest. Idly, one of her hands traced around the scars on his left side. They were different than the typical feel of threadscore scarring.

Not that he didn’t have his fair share of mars from the Pass. Everyone from that time did. This just made him unique. After companionable quiet, A’yara lightly kissed his shoulder, collar, and up to his neck. Unhurried, movements lazy, she eventually nipped her way to his ear.
