Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
8.2590 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every 4 or 5 OOC days. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Feel free to say hello, guesties! Registered members can request a colored name here.

this holds no IC consequence and is only for fun.

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome!

http://southernwindsweyr.net/Images/news icon copy.png We are a mature, 9th Interval AU Pern. We've destroyed almost the entire planet in a catastrophic event. While we feature 2 new mutations, we stick pretty close to canon. We've Ranks, roles, and positions for just about anyone who wants to get involved, with a relaxed community. Play and post at your own pace. Swing by and say hello!

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

A Hard Day's Night [ 04.09.2590 / Midnight ] Open

Elrethra didn't mind the night shift, not really. It was usually quite, hence why the more senior apprentices of the hall were put on shift with limited journeyman or master supervision. It wasn't like she did anything important without them anyways, and there was a whole list of rules of what they could and could not do if they were approached.

After all these turns, the limitations didn't chafe as much as they used to, and she mostly understood the ration limitations and was happy to abide by them for little things that she didn't believe mattered too much.

Not that it meant anything at this point in time, the Healer Hall had been quiet for most of the night, and so Elrethra was folding sheets in the main room of the Hall, there in case anyone entered and needed anything, but also being able to actively help out with some of the chores that would instead have to be left for tomorrow.

As far as she was aware, there was a more senior member of the craft in the offices, or probably in the stock rooms, taking note of what they needed and what they had spent for the day. Sometimes (and especially the day after such a big event like the gather), it was simply easier to get the more nit picky work down in the late hours of the night, when there was no one around the disturb whomever had been given that task.

The rain today had been constant, but surprisingly the air hadn't been dripping with humidity, instead, it had been mildly pleasant, and with the moderate wind breezing through the Weyr bowl, the temperature had dropped as the sun had set. Elrethra tapped her foot against the floor, wishing that the Hall was just a little closer to the bowl, instead of being separated from the outside by the sick Weyrs.

Hopefully something a little more interesting would happen so she could be temporarily relieved from the mind numbing task of folding over... and over... and over.

Kerenya stood in her room as looked at her reflection before nodding her head and leaving her room. She had tied her long hair up in a runner's tail and was satisfied that it would keep while she began her shift in the Healer Hall. She had drawn night shift and she didn't mind it one bit. Any shift was good in her opinion.

She walked to the sick ward and went in. She smiled when she saw that Elrethra was there. "Good evening, Elrethra!" She called to her. "Anything interesting happen since my last shift yesterday afternoon?" She asked politely as she automatically began helping the Senior Apprentice with folding the sheets.

S’ric knew there was going to be a period of adjustment. Both he and Dakrith were very… headstrong. When they both put their mind to something, it was difficult to convince the other that they might be right. Diplomacy, or anything resembling such a word, was neither of their strong suits. While they could occasionally agree, it was… a tentative and uneasy truce at best.

Then, other days… Other days were like tonight. Messy. Fucked up. Where S’ric pissed off his roommates because he couldn’t get his fucking dragon to understand that just because Dakrith wasn’t tired didn’t mean he didn’t need to go to sleep. It was bed time.

The Black had promptly told S’ric he could shove his knives somewhere unpleasant and trotted out of the room. So S’ric, being the obedient little Weyrling had tried to stop his rapidly growing dragon. It was not lost on the bonded rider that the dragon was much longer than he was tall and almost as tall as he was.

The fight was… well, glorious. Dakrith had only quit when the pain that flared through S’ric had actually shocked the Black into inaction, his eyes bleeding yellow as S’ric strung together a litany of curses. All the curses he could think of since the fucking dragon had cut into his side and arm deep enough he’d need… well, a lot of stitches. More than he’d be able to do since he was bleeding all over and his hand was shaking in his effort to try and control himself.

//This is what happens when you don’t listen,// S’ric berated for the… fifth? Tenth? … time as he made his way to the Healer Hall. Mostly because it wasn’t often his Black was cowed into actually listening and he wanted to take advantage.

Dakrith was curled in their room, licking the blood off his talons. Having obeyed after he’d actually injured his bonded. Yes, yes. Just… tend to yourself, will you?

//I’m entering the Healer’s Hall now,// S’ric informed, just as he did that. Looking for the first Healer he spied. Without any real introduction, he simply lifted his injured right arm to expose his equally cut side. “Mm. I fell.” //Now shut up and go to sleep, like you’re supposed to.//

Dakrith wordlessly grumbled into his head but he sensed his dragon was actually listening. Good. Now S’ric could focus on getting some stitches and getting some rest himself. Hopefully without this turning into a fuss.

Elrethra grimaced as Kerenya approached, there wasn't necessarily anything wrong with the other girl, she was just so damn plucky, even her call of good evening across the main hall made her annoyed. Ah yes, more inane conversation, just what Elrethra wanted to have to deal with in the middle of the night. At least she was always reliable and on time, and got straight into the work, instead of just lazing around and trying to chat (as it seemed candidates were wont to do whenever she had to lead them in chores).

Nodding in greeting Elrethra decided that she should probably answer the other apprentice's question. "It's been dead as a-" But she stopped when she heard the footsteps in the otherwise quiet hall,  there was a lot of blood, and Elrethra stiffened, turning fully towards the man as he approached. When he said he fell, she simply narrowed her eyes. "Kerenya, go get the stitching kit, I prepared one earlier in the emergency gear." Another apprentice might be annoyed at another apprentice taking charge over them, but as far as Elrethra was concerned, she was older, more senior, and simply better than everyone else.

"Fell on a bed of knives, did you?" And she gestured to the nearest empty cot, "Sit." As Elrethra sought to retrieve gauze, bandages, and numbweed from a nearby drawer, pressing a large cloth into his side, "Hold this here," as she pressed one onto his arm. There was little bedside manner, no Journeymen or Masters in the direct vicinity for her to need to pretend. Her goal was to clean the wounds, numb them, examine them, and get them stitched as quick as possible.

The cut on his side was the one she wanted to deal with first, a more complicated area considering the amount of movement the skin underwent everyday. Pushing his hand aside, and moving it instead onto the one on his arm, all without words, just brisk and purposeful hands, she began to clean the blood around the area as they waited for Kerenya to return.

Kerenya waited for a reply, not really caring if she did get one. She was finished with the sheet she'd just folded when she heard footsteps and looked up to see a young man come in showing his arm. She wasn't surprised by injuries anymore.

She bolted from the room to get the kit Elrethra had asked for. She found it where she'd been told it was, snatched it up and ran back to the main hall. She skidded to a halt next to Elrethra, slightly out of breath. "Here you go," she replied and placed the kit next to the young man on the cot and began opening it up and setting things out that Elrethra would need.

"Fell my arse," Kerenya murmured. To her the wound looked more like a long a gash than someone just falling, but she'd never say that to anyone's face.

S’ric didn’t really care if they believed him or not. So long as they didn’t ask any questions or press for more information, that’s all that mattered to him. Frankly, he’d have stitched himself up except that the light needed would likely wake up his roommates and Dakrith had injured his main hand – which would make the entire process difficult.

All in all, the Weyrling Master would probably forgive the entire affair if S’ric just got it taken care of properly. Or he’d assume it was a previous wound from an older fight. It wasn’t like the Black pair hadn’t gotten in trouble for fighting before. So long as it was properly dressed and S’ric didn’t say anything, he was really hoping to pass the whole thing off with minimal fuss.

So. The Healer’s stupid remark about a bed of knives didn’t seem to be something he really had to address, so he didn’t. Rather, he moved to the cot as directed and sat as he was told. Whatever would make the entire process go quickly. He held the cloth against his side and didn’t care that the woman was tart – borderline waspish. S’ric wasn’t exactly one known for his own social demeanor. Instead, he simply watched her and waited to be told further instruction. If the pain, or the fact he’d been cut open at all, was bothersome that much didn’t register.

That didn’t really bother him at all. S’ric was already a tapestry of scars, most self-inflicted. Pain was an all too familiar friend. Dakrith hadn’t nicked anything life threatening, it looked far worse than it really was. Rather, he just let the Healers fret as they were wont to do when they saw blood and kept his mouth shut.

The less they knew, the better.

Their smart mouthed comments about his own obvious lie went unanswered. If they weren’t going to press, he had absolutely no desire to divulge anything.

Lana fidgeted in her room. Before Roxalin could get too annoyed, she grabbed a small pouch from her trunk and hurried off through some of the less used tunnels, leaving Anneal asleep on her bed.

It had nearly been a full year since being Searched and she hasn't even stood for a clutch yet.

What am I doing? Grandfather would be so disappointed...How could I have left the craft? And still not even had a chance at Impressing?
She paced, agitated, in a deserted hallway, really just wanting to be at the furnace where she could burn off some of her aggravation.

Opening the pouch of collected ‘treasures’, the former glass smith pulled an old Crafter knot. A bit of glass that had been caught in the strands fell on the stone floor, and before she knew it had inserted itself into her bare left foot and dragged its way free again.

“Ah! Shards!” Lana caught herself on the wall and winced. I guess that’s what I get...
She shoved the pouch and knot into pockets and with a deep breath, wiped away the blood with the hem of her dress to look at the damage. It might need a couple stitches and definitely someone to make sure the glass hadn't broken and left a piece behind.

Lana limp/hopped her way to the Healers Hall, a trail of crimson polka dots behind her.

There was fairly fresh blood from someone else trailing in and when she hopped her way in around a corner, the healers were busy with a vaguely familiar male, Must be another candidate or maybe Weyrling. She sat down to wait, tracing some of the old scars on her arms to distract herself since his cuts looked far worse.

Spoiler for Hidden:
She'll refuse anesthetic if it's offered with a ‘save the rations’ type excuse.

Elrethra kept her eyes trained upon the wound, cleaning off most of the blood despite it still flowing reasonably quickly. When Kerenya returned, Elrethra was deep in concentration, only occassionally flicking her gaze back to the other wound, watching the bandage and the amount of blood that seeped into it.

"Kerenya, start cleaning the arm for me will you?"

The side cut would need a lot of stitches, and it's position on his body wasn't exactly the easiest place either. As the thought came to her mind she straightened, "Lie down on the cot if you would please, wound side up." It would make it easier on her if the area was relaxed and unstretched, and probably easier on him if he was lying down. Elrethra knew by now not to judge a person too quickly when it came to residents in the healer hall. The largest man could go tumbling at the sight of a little blood.

So far, he appeared to be holding up, but one could never be too sure.

Whilst she was waiting for him to readjust however, movement in the entrance of the hall caught her eye, and she watched as the woman sat to wait. "Kerenya," she said softly, "Go check to see how bad her injury is. If you think you'd be of more use here, then just take her to a cot and have her wait." The new arrival was far enough away that she wouldn't be able to hear her words to Kerenya, but she didn't bother whispering in order to conceal it from her current patient, that just wasn't her style.

And with that, her patient was settled, her equipment arrived, with a quick wash of her hands in the infused water of the healer hall, Elrethra began work on the man's side, quiet, focused and steady. In, out and pull. In, out and pull. Slightly readjusting her stitch each time to follow the wave of the wound.

Kerenya set to work on cleaning the arm wound like she'd been asked to do. She made sure to wash her hands and then dip them into the redwort solution. She dipped her hands in the numbweed and slathered enough on the arm wound to numb any pain the young man would possibly be feeling. "Hopefully the pain is numbed sufficiently," she murmured to herself. She finished her work quickly and made it ready for when Elrethra would get to it

Kerenya looked at the entrance to the Healer hall, just now noticing a young woman there. She heard Elrethra's words and nodded. She cleaned her hands of the numbweed and redwort solution, drying her hands on a cloth, she went to the woman. "Hello, what happened, ma'am?" She asked as she approached Tolanna.

Tolanna pulled a face more of embarrassment than pain when Kerenya approached. Despite her late husband having been a healer, she never did like the hall. The little lessons he'd taught her had spared many trips.

"I stepped on a bit of broken glass; it doesn't seem too bad, but I can't see if any broke off in there, otherwise I'd have taken care of it myself." She tilted her head in a gesture toward the others, "If they need you, I can wait with a towel for less mess."

Kerenya smiled. "She has that handled for now. It shouldn't take me long to have a look at your foot. And at least its not both of your feet," she replied in a calm manner. "So, let me get some bandages and some numbweed and some disinfectant to clean the blood away so I can have a better look." She left the woman to quickly gather what she would need. She was only gone a few minutes or so. "Alright, if you would feel more comfortable laying down, I can help you to a cot. And it would make it easier to clean and bandage your foot."

"If you're sure," Tolanna shrugged with a little smile. Stubborn as ever, she made her own way to the cot and turned to try to give the healer better access to the awkwardly placed gash on the outer edge of the bottom of her foot. "It went in on the toe-end and cut back toward the heel. Don't worry about numbweed; save it for something major. I'm really just worried the glass might have left some behind."

The cots were near enough that Lana's attention returned to the wounded man and the healer working on him. While she wasn't a fan of visiting the hall herself, watching the healers work was fascinating. Maybe if-- more like 'when' she aged out of candidacy, she could apprentice with the healers. "Always need more healers, right?" She mused under her breath.

"Of course I'm sure," Kerenya replied with an easy smile. She listened to the woman as she went about cleaning the wound as soon as the woman laid down on the cot. Kerenya made sure she had the foot slightly elevated as well, a way to get the blood flow to slow down. She cleaned off the foot, only seeing a sparkle from a few pieces of glass that looked like they had broken off of a larger piece. "Well, there are a few pieces of small shards of glass. Only about four pieces, and I get those out with tweezers. And I'll use the numbweed to keep the pain at bay as I may need to move flesh so I can get to one that looks like it's deeply embedded."

At the woman's question about needing Healers, Kerenya glanced at her patient with a smile. "There will always be a need for more Healers. Are you considering becoming a Healer?" As she went about slathering some numbweed on the wound and fetched the tweezers from the satchel with the other medical supplies she had gathered.
