Current Month

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Learning the Ropes [13.10.2590 // 7pm] EVENT
« on: October 19, 2017, 09:04:56 PM »
Notkerric stood in a loose group with a few of his men, watching with a pleased expression on his face as people trickled into the cave. They were near the entrance but not blocking it, nodding and smiling as handlers and whers joined them on the sands. His own two were near him, Kerrisk proudly unmuzzled and untethered, though Notsk was on a leash and had a small band tied around his snout. Notkerric learned quickly that his youngest wher did not do well with crowds, so  he was careful to keep him close.

"You're doing good," he told Notsk, petting the top of his head. This one loved praise and reassurance, and he didn't want to take any risks in having problems with his whers tonight.

Notkerric turned as he heard his name called and raised a hand in recognition, though he didn't move from his place at the front. He might roam around eventually, but for today, he was a teacher.

This class, a quick, impromptu idea put together in a few short days, was something he hoped would help. Despite his desires to further his own agenda within the Hall, there was a simple problem that he had to deal with first: hunters. And this, giving the wher pairs that didn't have any type of training, would benefit the whole hall.

He nodded at those would be instructing each section to move to opposite sides of the cave as he stepped up, clearing his throat to gain attention.

"Good evening, everyone!" Notkerric called, voice echoing off of the walls. "Today we want to help you and your wher learn some new commands that will only benefit you in the future. We will have two classes available. The first," he said as he motioned to his left, "is obedience. We will help you learn simple commands that you can use verbally or through your bond. The second is combat and defense, where we learn how to recognize when hunters are near and how to fight against them."

Notkerric patted the leather armor he wore. "All of our peacekeepers are in uniform so you can reach out to us with any individual questions. Please don't feel like you have to stay at one station for the whole evening. Move around and learn all that you can. We all can benefit from this!"

With that, he stepped back and waited as a few people shifted to either side of the room. He mentally counted out a rough estimate of how many chose to attend and nodded. Yes, this was turning out well.

Spoiler for OOC:
Time to learn! You can find the OOC thread here. Don't forget to check your characters in! Any of our peacekeepers out there are welcome to be in the group Notkerric is standing with at the start or the one that calls out to him. Notkerric himself will mingle amongst both groups and will talk to any stragglers as well. Happy posting!

Tressie had known her father had been intending to run a wher training session, and as much as she probably didn't need any of it, having been bonded to Tressisk longer than most despite her younger age, she wanted to support her dad. While she had no idea whether or not there was any interest in the idea, if there wasn't, then there would be at least one person there.

She had no use for the simple command session, and she really didn't have any use for the combat and defence either, you didn't grow up in a family like hers without having a properly trained wher. Even if Tressisk would probably be a little ahead of the other whers there, and maybe even slightly annoyed that she was being subjected to such repetitive work, but Tressie didn't particularly care.

And so, with a skip in her step, and a slink in Tressisk's, the two made their way into the caves, the sand squishing satisfyingly under her feet as it gave way to her soft wherhide boots.

She might even be able to be helpful herself! Tressisk had done wonderfully in her reaction time at the hunter attack, and whilst the green didn't particularly care about protecting anyone other than Tresrissa, she knew her way around combat scenarios. That was Tressisk's sole purpose in life afterall, in her opinion. Tresrissa might see her as more of a companion, but Tressisk knew nothing but duty.

When her father started talking, she gave him a quick wave from the back of the group. Subtle enough that she wouldn't embarrass him by drawing attention to the move, but there so that he knew that she was there to support his endeavour.

With the room dismissed to get to work, she turned to the peacekeeper in charge of the combat and defence section and greeted them with a characteristically cheery 'Tressie-smile'.

Aldrekayn stood in a small group of peacekeepers with Notkerric, having arrived earlier than the meeting time should Notkerric need anything of him. With the hatching of wher almost five months ago and so many handlers Impressing a second wher, he couldn’t agree more with this nearly impromptu training session that was being offered to any wher handlers, and not just peacekeepers. He had asked Remira to come down at some point with her newest addition, and even Remisk for a refresher. He couldn’t be sure if this open session would be something that Notkerric continued or if it was a one-time opportunity. If it were the latter, it shouldn’t be wasted.

He’d left on his own with Aldresk and Rekaysk, though, considering the time it would take to prepare his newest bronze and his intent to arrive early. Rekaysk was fully muzzled and held on a short leash, whereas Aldresk had neither. His older bronze remained close to his side at every step or shift of his feet, as if there were an invisible magnet that held him close and repositioned him at every move. Kayn had full trust in Aldresk’s control and obedience, which allowed him to focus more of his attentions on Rekaysk, who had begun a low growl in his mind from the moment they entered the cave.

The addition of each wher and handler into the cave only made Rekaysk’s growl in his mind intensify, until it got to the point where it was beginning to give him a headache. At one point during the group’s conversation, Aldrekayn knelt down to Rekaysk and yanked his head down by the metal muzzle and murmured a hushed threat under his voice. Kayn stood, his face as stoic as ever, though mentally he was breathing a sigh of relief that the pulsing anger from Rekaysk had dulled a bit.

He hadn’t expected the feeling of aggression toward everyone and every other wher in this area to go away completely. Rekaysk had proven over the past five months that that was never going to happen. His initial instinct to rip into everything that moved was not something that Aldrekayn had been able to fix. When he’d been able to at least reign it in a bit and keep his rage at least to himself, he’d taken that as a win.

There was no knowing how he was going to respond in today’s lesson. If given the chance, he would attack the nearest wher until its death before moving on to the next. It was why Aldrekayn had spent so much time training him alone in order to at least lay the foundation of obedience and training before trying to train him with the distractions of other wher. Which meant that he was going to have to test the waters and adjust himself accordingly based on Rekaysk’s actions.

Once everyone had arrived, and far more than Aldrekayn had expected, Notkerric began the class. He held himself back until Notkerric was finished, then shifted himself to the side of the room for combat and defense. He wasn’t the peacekeeper who would be leading the group, but he would make himself and Aldresk available to answer any questions or assist in any demonstrations.

It was the duty of any proper holder Wife to support her husband. In that, Tavianna was more than pleased that her daughter had caught on the same vein of thought and had shown as well. Without any prompting.

Not that Tressie nor Tavianna needed lessons. That wasn’t really the point though, was it? Tavianna would play the role of sweet, doting wife and go through the motions for Notkerric. Those that didn’t know her, or of their family, likely thought she was there for lessons. Especially if they didn’t know anything about wher either. Tavisk was a mountain of a Gold trailing after her, lazily alert in the way that she always was. Aware of her surroundings only in so far as she needed to be.

If nothing caught Tavianna’s interest, it wasn’t likely to register so much with Tavisk. The Gold didn’t seem aware of any other personal boundaries or space. If Tavianna walked somewhere, Tavisk was going to follow. It was best for anyone smaller than her to simply move out of the way or risk getting shoved or stepped on.

It might’ve seemed like the Gold was untrained. To be perfectly honest, Tavianna rather liked the subtle show of force. Let others be moved by her wher, let them be aware that she had arrived. Little wife to a Peacekeeper.

Tavianna flashed her husband a sweet smile, belying the cold thoughts that so frequently drifted behind her gentle expression as she took up a spot off to the side. Out of the way. If her husband thought not many would show, of course he’d be wrong. Tavianna had quietly gone around to many of the holders, those waffling and unsure, and pressed them to be sure. To show up and attend to the lesson, if only to support the new Head Peacekeeper and his wife.

Surely no one wanted on their bad side. Right?

When there was no constant Rider presence, Tavianna found she was enjoying her greater freedom. Maybe it really would be time to start up business shortly.

Tavianna’s attention returned to the moment when her husband cleared his throat and called for attention. When he made note of the two stations, Tavianna easily made up her mind. Not that she would ever likely be in a place to encounter a Hunter, she spun on her heel and made her way to combat and defense.

Just behind her daughter, no that Tressie seemed wholly aware of her. Still, it heartened Tavianna to see her daughter so well behaved and participating. Tavisk followed dutifully. Feeling nothing about the event, about all the wher around, or even reacting to what might happen soon. Tavisk didn’t feel anything other than a devotion soul deep to Tavianna. Whatever the woman wanted of her Gold, she’d get.

Tavianna didn’t say anything or otherwise indicate her presence. Just waited for instruction, as did Tavisk, though the Gold wher did nose at Tressie just a little. Affectionately.

Korelysi
Age:
2576 // 14
Rank:
Holder Wife and Wherhandler of Koresk
Physical Description:
* A lanky and seemingly malnurished woman, standing at a modest 5'5"
* She tries to look nice, brushing out her dull brown hair that curls rebelliously around her face and the ends. She'd say messily - her doting husband thinks it's cute. Really, it just makes her look younger than she already is.
* Pale skin that would make it seem she's never seen a long day of sun - and she burns easily when she does. Pale brown eyes that match her hair.
Personality:
* Demure : Korelysi is a people pleaser. From her older husband, to her mother, older sisters - to anyone she perceives to be in authority. It doesn't matter - she just wants to make the world smile.
* Perfectionist : If something is worth doing, it's worth doing correctly. She insists as much and can get childishly frustrated when things don't work out the way she'd like.
* Unlearned : Harper schooling never really stuck with Korelysi. She's a practical learner - sewing, knitting, farming. Those things, she's great at. But ask her to read, write, or do math and she becomes quite frustrated - red faced and teary eyed. It's a good thing her husband loves her despite all this.
Backstory:
A young, sweet girl recently married to a new Peacekeeper. She's been thrust into the social world of married women, trying to navigate all that entails and not embarrass her husband - who she loves dearly even though that was an arranged marriage. Gifted a wher egg to keep her safe while he's often out and training, she's hoping not to make a fool out of herself while trying to train the wher who often seems on an entirely different page than she is.
Intended Outcome:
No one lives forever. Sometimes things go wrong. Maulings happen. :D

She’d been on time. Korelysi had not dared be late. Not after the little get together she’d had with some of the wives. It’d been pretty much stated that any wife of a Keeper, who had a wher, that didn’t show was publicly snubbing other wives and the Keepers themselves! How dreadful! She didn’t want it to be whispered around that she was that sort of woman.

Never mind that she’d have attended anyways because, frankly, she didn’t know what to do with Koresk. He was a pretty Blue and followed her around without request. Korelysi often thought he did so only because her husband asked it of him. The Blue seemed to like her dashing husband more than he liked her, often looking at her with alien, fractured eyes. Like he was... impatiently waiting for her to do something. If only he could speak!

Now, he trailed after her in the tunnels that so frequently made Korelysi anxious. The entire reason that her husband had gotten her a wher to begin with. So she’d feel confident moving around the Hall, and previously the weyr, on her own. It was a sweet gesture, meant to make her feel safe. Even though all she felt was further judged by Koresk.

Korelysi remained on the fridges of the gathering, making sure she could hear but wanting to stay out of the way. Her hand came to rest reflexively on Koresk’s shoulder, as it so often did whenever she was anxious. The muscled blue shifted closer to her, protective and quiet, green eyes watching her. Always watching her.

Korelysi knew Notkerric only by name and face. Tavianna’s husband. She knew Tavianna, though. Like she knew some of the other wives that trickled in, likewise not wanting to snub their husbands or their professions. Korelysi also noted that there were a couple faces not present. She did not envy what would be said about them and what might befall their fortunes because they’d not shown.

Korelysi had witnessed, first hand, back at Fort Hold what happened when a wife fell out of a social circle favor. Trades and gifts suddenly stopped showing up. If food or clothes were needed, they were nowhere to be found. A good wife needed a support structure of friends – her mother had drilled that into her. Which meant attending gatherings and social outings such as this. Being seen with the right people, smiling even when she might not feel it, and being a good Holder Lady.

When Notkerric mentioned the two opportunities present, Korelysi knew which she needed to go to. Basic command training would be great, since she still had no idea how to communicate with her Blue. As everyone started moving around, she shuffled over to the Peace Keepers in charge of the training. Her husband was over in the combat area, so at least she’d not make a fool of herself in front of him.

Instead, she smiled sheepishly and simply said, “Hello, my name is Korelysi, and this is Koresk.” Her blue had dutifully moved with her, green eyes still watching her. Like the rest of the people and wher in the cavern didn’t even exist.

She really wished it didn’t feel like he was exasperated they were even there.

Arinada walked into the hold her young green on a leash which was not what she would normally do to the young green as she always stayed by her and Nadisk's side. Nadisk was back at the Weyr hauling in fish as that was his job and he would not miss it. She had told the Master Fisher she had needed a training session for the young green and he had said it was fine for the afternoon and the fact that she needed a break after the Sharpfish attack not but 7 days ago. The healers wanted her to take it easy since she was 4 months along and had told her no more boats.

She walked into the area and looked down at Arisk and patted her head "Come on girl lets listen to Notkerric and see what he says then choose where we should go okay. I know I know your excited but calm down you have to stay on the leash for now we get back to Nadisk and you can get back off the leash okay."

Arisk nuzzled her leg as if she understood. They stood and listened before walking up to Notkerric and smiling "Hello Notkerric I do not think you have meet the new addition to the family yet. This is Arisk."

Remma had found herself drawn to the training session more out of learning curiosity than necessity. She had been raised around Wher’s most of her life and the fact she had started fighting so young meant her grasp on training with actually decent given the fact that she was still young. Her green was actually very well trained for as grouchy she could be.

Even if she did keep a muzzle on her fighting Wher it wasn’t because she couldn’t be controlled, it was that with age and the turns of fighting came a certain snappy-ness that Remma cared little to change; and so she just kept her muzzled.

She had found herself a spot along the edges of the crowed, where she was not exactly in her uncle’s line of vision but she could see him and the stations unobstructed. Her brown eyes took in the crowd around her, taking in the familiar faces of family and acquaintances alike. Her eyes stayed on her cousin, the perfect princess of the family.

She did not hold and ill feelings towards her prissy cousin but she didn’t really hold any affection either. She was everything Remma disliked when it came to the holder women and their way of life. She was the perfect holder daughter and Remma almost hated her for that.

Her eyes traveled from her cousin, looking for a face she actually missed.

When her uncle spoke of the Peacekeepers her eyes flowed to the men in uniform. She felt a strange moment of nostalgia when her eyes settled on a man in uniform. It, for only a moment, reminded her of a time before Fort Island when there had actually been a true Hold to call home. Her mind shifted from the nostalgia to the fact that the man she was looking at was a fairly handsome male and she pursed her lips.

Before her mind could wander more someone bumped into her and she narrowed her eyes at their retreating form before she brushed the non-existent wrinkles from her beautiful and form fitting dress. The green at her side growled softly and she reached down and scratched at an eye ridge.
”Shhhh Love” she said softly and pressed calming emotions into the protective green.
Her brown eyes looked down at the indifferent brown and smiled with a soft shake of her head. He was a smart Wher if not a bit lazy. Training him had been nothing like training her eager green. She had to be sly with getting him to do the things she wanted him to but was thankful he was extremely patient.

She looked up from her bi-colored brown as she eyed the stations that were now quickly filling with people. She moved from her position and walked towards the combat station. Perhaps they would have something new or different she could learn and thus teach her darlings.

As she passed by her Uncle she smiled sweetly at him before turning to the handsome Peacekeeper and flashing him that charming smile and winking at him. Her blatant actions happening right in front of her uncle.

Remma was the black sheep of her very proper holder family and sometimes she just enjoyed rubbing it in.

Remira didn’t need to go to the class. She had her own Crafter based lessons on such things, but any excuse to spend time with her brother was one she’d willingly take. It was a bit of a pain having to retake wher training in the Crafthall, but such things were necessary to make sure she could reliably expose Irask to the little critters she interacted with every day and he’d not show any aggression.

Not that Remira could imagine him being aggressive at all.

If anything, he did become a bit alert and eager around the rabbits. Sniffing at them and wanting to nose at the little fluffs, but nothing about his demeanor or body language ever indicated he’d wanted to do more than sniff and follow. After the first time he’d put one in his mouth and she’d freaked out.

Bunnies were not for eating, he’d learned.

What Remira was having trouble with was getting him to actively participate in her work. Remisk was almost his exact opposite. She loved working, getting dirty, and throwing herself into whatever was required of her but… Irask was… proving to be a bit of a stubborn thing. He’d sit, snort, and stare at her when she asked him to do things that she wanted and he just didn’t. Usually involving dirt and the stables. So those lessons were proving to be a pain.

Complicated because now Irask was too big for her to just pick up and move like she used to. Honestly, Remira missed when he was tiny and she could carry him around like a plump baby flit. Now, he dutifully followed her, next to the excitable Remisk. A smaller, more sedate version of the bouncy green as they entered the cave a bit late.

Not her fault – she did still have crafter work. Spying her brother, Remira immediately went over to him and bumped him with her hip. “So. What’d I miss and what will you be teaching me today?” Remira was going to use this as an excuse to eat up as much of his time as she could – all to herself, if she could.

Paylae had seen the postage when they had first gone up, and it was safe to say the idea had... intrigued her. From her past, there was no way she trusted the Peacekeepers, as far as she cared, they were just another constitution who had failed at their prime directive: protection. Whilst she completely understood how it had been so easy for the 'Keepers to corrupt themselves, it didn't mean she was going to trust them so easily. Triance had been one of them, traditional enough to not blink at the beating of his wife, but not enough so that he wasn't happy to take a bribe to look the other way when the going got tough in the Hold.

Regardless, there was a potential that these Peacekeeper's were different. Whether or not they proved to be so, was something that Paylae was here to find out. She didn't even really want their tutelage on wher training, so many of them muzzled their whers, and after turns of Misk, and now only a few months of Paylask, she was hesitant to take advice from those who didn't have control enough over their whers to warrant a muzzle.

And so, when Paylask and Paylae arrived, the baker had led them over to a corner, positioned on the edge of the wall, where she could watch carefully and listen to both of the training groups. She had begun her own training of Paylask as soon as he was willing to listen, taking note of what she had noticed her father do with his own wher when she was younger. Paylask had been shaping up rather nicely, not leaving her side, being able to follow the instructions she gave him, mostly because they both just seemed to get one another. He liked the kitchens, liked her, and pretty much didn't like anyone else, and that worked just fine for Paylask, his already intimidating build starting to work in her favour for those she didn't like.

Sitting on bench on the outskirts, Paylask had positioned himself at her feet, his growing frame filling almost the entire area in front of her, so that anyone who approached would have at least an entire wher's distance between them and Paylae. Just the way he liked it.

With Paylask taking care of protection, Paylae's eyes swept around the room, taking note of who she noticed was there. Not getting out of the kitchens much meant that she wasn't able to put any faces to name, but there were some she'd seen more frequently than others, and remembered them in association with some of the men in the room. The so-called Head Peacekeeper for example, and his likely daughter and wife, although, as far as Paylae was aware, they could've just been part of a harem.

There were also a few which she hadn't seen very much of at all. Those who must divide their time between Weyr and Hall, or at least, only spend time in the eating area of the Mine Hall very occasionally.

It would be interesting to see how this turned out all in all. If she felt like there was some saving grace to the 'Keepers then perhaps next time might be the time to participate more actively.

Taliad
Age:
2553 // 37
Rank:
Holder, Peacekeeper
Physical Description:
Taliad is a bit imposing for a hold woman. She is tall, muscular, and has a large bronze wher (Taliask) that follows her everywhere. She is olive-skinned and has rich brown hair to match her eyes. She is nearly always in her peacekeeper leathers, or in a tunic, pants, and working boots.
Personality:
SERIOUS : She takes her job and her work seriously. She isn't driven by emotion and uses logic and common sense to make her decisions.
LOYAL : She owes Notkerric for saving her daughter's life, and so she chooses to be loyal to him now in whatever he needs.
SINGLE-MINDED : She isn't a very intelligent person outside of peacekeeping matters. Taliad always had strength of body over mind and will generally side with Notkerric or her husband in matters.
Backstory:
Taliad married a peacekeeper at thirteen, who gifted her a wher egg when her son was born. He encouraged her to train for peacekeeping when she turned twenty, and she ended up loving the job. At the worst of Fort Hold's ration crisis, she was pregnant and falling sick from lack of food. Notkerric gifted her a small allowance of wher meat which helped her regain her strength and saved her child. She owes her life to the head peacekeeper and is one of his loyal followers.
Intended Outcome:
For this event, no death or mauling. She's just here to be the NPC teacher.

Taliad had been honored when Notkerric approached her and asked her to lead one of the classes for their quick training session. His confidence in her ability to teach, especially those who were not peacekeepers, gave her some much needed reassurance in the face of so many people. Truly, she hadn't expected this many to show up.

As Notkerric dismissed the instructors, Taliad led Taliask over to the side of the cave for the obedience lessons. She stood, tall and proud, her leathers shining and her bronze wher sitting at her feet, almost docile. He was neither leashed nor muzzled, and Taliad was determined to be the best example of a well-trained pair that she could be.

As people gathered around her, she took note of their whers. Many had either two, with their youngest from the hatching several months prior, or others had found their first wher at the hatching. Taliad herself hadn't felt the need to bond another wher, but with the recent hunter attack, she was considering a green for herself more and more.

Taliad gave the young woman a smile and small bow as she approached her.

"Hello, Korelysi. I'm so glad you're here." She raised her head to look at the rest gathered near her. "And everyone, we are so happy to help. I am Taliad, and this is Taliask. I have been a Peacekeeper for over fifteen turns. It is my honor to help you learn about your whers and how you can work together."

Taliad made a hand motion at Taliask and then left his side, moving around the pairs gathered before her. "As you can see, whers don't need to be leashed and muzzled at all times. While helpful when they are younger, it isn't necessary." A few paces away from her wher, she made another hand motion and waited while Taliask made his way over to her. "My goal today to help you learn how to get your whers to stay in one place and to walk beside you without a leash. You also will learn your whers' moods, as their emotions can change how reactive they are to you. Are there any other things you would like to know?"

She left the question open to the group at large, including the stragglers who stood on the outskirts of their section. This was to benefit everyone, after all.

Noticing Tresrissa and Tavianna in the crowd made Notkerric's heart glad. His family was here, with him, supporting him. It meant the world to him. Between his dear wife and his loyal friends, he was surrounded with nothing but support for their new endeavors. All of this was for them -- for the Hold, his family, those whom the weyr had snubbed when they made peacekeepers manual laborers in the move.

Notkerric was thankful for life, of course, but his life's work had been discredited. He would rebuild the legacy of the peacekeepers.

Arinada's approach caught his eye and he fixed a pleasant smile on his face. "Arinada, it's good to see you again," he greeted. He crouched down to look at the little green wher. "Arisk is a wonderful name." He motioned Notsk forward, rewarding the prompt response with a solid head rub. "This is my Notsk. He doesn't much like crowds, but he's doing very well tonight."

At the praise, the bronze nuzzled against his handler's leg. Notsk was known to be moody, but so far he was doing well with the large crowds and the new situation. They had a long way to go, but it was still progress. The difference between a full muzzle and the small strap his younger bronze had was large enough for him.

"I hope you find the sessions today helpful," he told his sister-in-law, patting her newest wher on the head. "If you'll excuse me." He bowed slightly and moved away, heading first over to the combat class. It seemed to draw the most attention, including most of the family members he saw gathered. Including his niece.

Notkerric gave Remmalthira a tight-lipped smile before coming alongside his wife. Kerrisk moved up beside Tavisk and nosed her briefly, though the bronze knew better than to expect anything more of the gold. Notsk was starting to get grumpier as Notkerric drew him closer to the mass of people, but a stern word kept the bronze's grumbles to a minimum.

"Thank you," he told Tavianna, resting a hand on her side. He didn't need to explain once more. Their understanding, reached long ago, made him appreciative of all she had ever done for their family. Their children, their whers, their devotion to his new position meant everything to him. "I hope you never need what you might learn tonight."

If Tavianna or Tresrissa ever got in the path of a hunter, Notkerric would never forgive himself. But still, combat would help. He left his family's side and moved up to the front, nearer to the instructors. He would wait and listen. And if those teaching felt some pressure from being watched, so be it. All of the peacekeepers needed to do their best.
Any and all powerplay by Tavianna allowed.

Thoridan arrived early, with a few others, standing impassively behind Notkerric as people and whers gathered in the cavern. Impassive, but not unobservant, watching those coming in and taking stock of whether they looked like they had any experience of wher at all yet or were completely new to the creatures. Ellevask sat stoically beside him, looking somewhat bored with the proceedings. If something caught her handlers eye, she would look over, but until then she would go on ignoring anyone around her, including the rowdy baby wher.

He was not instructing either of the lessons. Though Ellevask was acutely aware of hunters, she was not a fighter as his Ridansk had been. She was indeed obedient, but Thoridan could claim none of the credit for that himself since training with her had been more of a case of him learning what commands she used. Thus, the pair of them would be potentially useful in both classes, but master of neither. Thoridan wasn't particularly worried about that. He knew all the theory, so he'd be able to answer any questions someone directed his way.

Thus he didn't immediately move to one side of the cavern or the other when Notkerric finished his speech. He'd long since spotted his wife in the crowd, glad that she'd attended, but hung back as she approached his brother to introduce her young green. Only when Notkerric politely excused himself did Thoridan take his place beside Arinada, Ellevask remaining where she was.

"You decided to join the fun then," he said, offering his wife a dry half-smile. It was good that so many of the family had turned up for support, not that Notkerric really needed it. There'd been rumour circulating that any wives who didn't show up to support their husbands and such would be disgraced, but Thoridan didn't really hold much to that. Arinada was not just some hold wife, she was a crafter in her own right and had more important things to do than provide him with moral support on a day to day basis, but training her wher was important too. Not that she didn't already have a good idea how to do that after Nadisk and he would always have been there to help her, but every wher was different and the more people she talked to the more likely she was to come across a technique that worked best for Arisk in particular.

"Where to first?" he asked her, stepping back and gesturing for Arinada to lead the way wherever he wished. He was happy to go to either.

Sohrelle
Age:
2573 // 17 turns
Rank:
Holder Wife with Sohsk
Physical Description:
*Blonde hair
*Very short of height, but with reasonably successful child-bearing hips
*Bright smile
Personality:
*Weak - Mentally and physically, Sohrelle has always been a bit weak, all of her opinions are simply made up of what has been ingrained into her, not anything that she personally believes
*Wife - Pretty much her sole purpose is to be wife and mother and to fit whatever cookie cutter shape that is supposed to be.
*Dutiful - Sohrelle doesn't complain about being told what to do by her "betters"
Backstory:
Married young, Sohrelle has been the epitome of Holder wife for most of her life. Whilst she knows and has known those who have defected from the Holder lifestyle, she simply has no capacity to understand it. It's not something that would ever cross her mind and is therefore not something she could even begin to understand even suitable reasonings for.
Sohrelle "loves" her husband, as all Holder women should, and pretty much spends her days looking after their two young children and keeping their cave-household.
The wife of a Peacekeeper is a pretty good life for her, and she's still quite close with her parents who approve of their choice for her in life.
During the first wher hatching at the mine hall, Sohrelle managed to secure herself a weak little wher which no one else stepped forward to take, and before her husband could tell her no, she was stepping forward to bond with them. Their training hasn't gone well so far, Sohrelle a bit too weak and scatterbrained to stay fast to the mental connection with her green, Sohsk.
Sohsk herself is quite a curious and intelligent little thing, but eventually will start to lose some of her independent streak when faced with pain or obedience. Sohrelle will likely be able to raise little more than a glorified pet, and miss out of Sohsk's potential.
Intended Outcome:
Rough 'em up - Who knows what can happen with a room full of untrained whers?

Sohrelle was smiling as she entered the cavern, on time, to be sure, but with one hand wrapped firmly around the leash she had been given after bonding with her new wher. Even though they had bonded over a turn beforehand, Sohrelle definitely still thought of their bond as new. Sohsk wasn't exactly... easy to understand, Sohrelle always found it a little difficult to know whether or not the green was understanding anything she "conveyed" into the wher's mind.

Sohsk herself was a curious little thing, continuously tugging just on the edge of her leash in order to investigate something here and there, and getting confused at Sohrelle's orders to 'Halt' and 'Follow'. Those words simple did not compute for the little wher.

As per her husband's order, Sohrelle had come to this training session, both to show a strong family support, and to get a little... extra help. It wasn't that her husband couldn't help her, he simply didn't seem interested in doing so in his spare time any longer. Which of course, was completely within his right. If he came home from a long day at work and didn't feel like teaching Sohrelle's wher, she would definitely not blame. No. Not at all.

Smiling sweetly at her husband when she walked by him, although he did not return the same level of affection to his wife, Sohrelle really did try to pay attention to Notkerric's words. But this simply wasn't her... area. She was made for the home, for everything she understood to be in their right places and within her realm of understanding, it even felt a little... uncomfortable, being so forthright with her education.

But at the sight of other wives, it soothed her mind, obviously since they were mostly all here too, that was what she was meant to do as well. Sometimes when her husband told her to attend something, she didn't always get the "why". In fact, he was usually a little too busy to give her the "why", but that was simply because he worked a lot, that's all.

So when Taliad starting talking, Sohrelle listened intently. Regardless of how Taliad's choices were a little... beyond Sohrelle's realm of understanding, she was above her in every way, and therefore demanded Sohrelle's respect.

Despite Sohrelle's own halt to listen, Sohsk didn't have any such ideas, and kept tugging lightly against her leash, trying to sniff around the heels of some of the other whers standing nearby. Pulling tightly on the leash, enough so to have the wher feel a little bit of pain at the action, eventually the green stopped trying to explore, and sat in the sand... bored.

Good. She didn't need Sohsk to do anything complicated. After all, a wife didn't need any more than a basic pet, but it was becoming... embarrassing to say the least, that the little thing couldn't seem to follow anything she wanted of it.

Then why do so many of you leash and muzzle your whers? If it was so sharding simple, you'd think even the bloody peacekeepers would have some standards then. Paylae was already getting a little.. frustrated with the whole ordeal, the need for the woman to spout all her 'turns of experience', regardless of whether her little hand waving thing was a little impressive.

Paylask placed his head on her lap, as if commiserating with her thoughts. Whether or not he actually understood what she was thinking was a different story, but he seemed to think this was just as useless anyways. Watching all these fancy shiny whers striding about with their stiff bonded's that acted more like owners than anything else.

So far in their training, Paylae had already managed to get Paylask to follow her and agree to simple enough instructions, it seemed these new Peacekeepers had nothing to show for their status yet, but she supposed their was still time.

With the woman in charge of the basics pausing for questions, Paylae turned her attention to the defence class instead, now that was something that might actually be worth their time. Paylask had shown a little bit of his protective nature already, so Paylae didn't think he needed any training on the protecting her front. But if these Peacekeepers had some sort of... special training with a Hunter's hide that could help whers to attune their senses to the creatures of the Jungle, then Paylae might consider coming back for the next lesson.

Tressie waited a little impatiently for the Peacekeeper in charge of this station to begin speaking, but more importantly begin showing them. After all, watching and demonstrating had always been far more interesting than just listening to the theory of it.

As much as Tresrissa hadn't been aware of where her mother had been specifically, she knew that Tavianna would have been there somewhere. Her mother was nothing if not a perfect woman, she would obviously be here on such an important day, as Tressie was too. So when Tavisk nosed at her side, the familiar feel of the Gold did not surprise the young woman, and her hand went almost absentmindedly to give Tavisk a pat on the head.

Flanked by Tavisk, undoubtedly one of the most intimidating whers in the mine hall, and for good reason, and Tressisk on her other side, who had never balked at any task, Tressrissa would have looked quite the sight just then, even compared to all the other whers and their handlers in the room.

When still nothing happened, Tressie looked over her shoulder, searching the room for where her mother was, and gave the older woman a bright smile.

Saer didn't know where Raindon was at the moment but she'd heard of these two Lessons. She wanted to attend them and at least see if there was anything she could learn. Her handsome Saesk was right beside her. Saraida was with a nanny. So Saer and Saesk could attend these classes.

Saesk didn't make a sound as he walked beside his handler, not minding for the moment of so many people pressing around. He simply walked next to her and sniffed at those that passed by.

Saer walked over to the class for Obvedience and listened. She felt Saesk lean into her legs and she looked down. He was looking and listening to the speakers. She smiled and turned her attention back to the class.

Ilue heard the news about the lessons and was interested in both the lesson of obedience and the other one of combat and defence. She could use th combat and defence, while Iluesk could use the obedience lesson. She made sure she wore clothing that she could get dirty in if need be. She hoped that she and Iluesk would learn a few things from each lesson. And since she was learning to become a Peacekeeper, these lessons would help her.

Iluesk saw her handler get ready and got up from her stone couch and shook herself like a canine. Her hide glistened from a recent bath and oiling, only enhancing her vibrant gold tones. She whistled at the brown and green firelizards before she moved to follow her handler out of their quarters.

Ilue and Iluesk arrived just before Notkerric began to speak. She listened to him explain beofre she went to the first lesson, the obedience one. She listened intently to the Peacekeeper in charge. Iluesk followed and sat on her haunches next to Ilue. Brown Tiaron landed on Ilue's left shoulder, while Green Brat landed on Ilue's right.
