Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Movin' on up [ 29/09/2590 | 7:07PM ] | Weyrlings
« on: October 24, 2017, 09:00:17 PM »
"G'day mates. I hope you ate enough 'cause you're gonna be needin' a bit of elbow grease tonight." Wa'by bellowed at the group around him. Kalestath's '89 clutch had been told to report straight to the barracks after dinner, for a "special meeting" though there were plenty of other weyrlings milling about. Out of curiosity perhaps, or even just for lack of anything else to concern themselves with. Usually lessons after hours were brought about out of punishment, though it was possible it was just something that could only be done after the sun went down, and there had certainly been a bit of a buzz around the dining hall as the news got around.

"It's gettin' as crowded as Fort back in the seventies over here, and with more nippers around the corner, you lot need to piss off." The bluerider's grin widened at that, the affection to his words clear even if his choice of them weren't quite as nice as they could be. He paused as he waited for what he was saying to sink in, glancing over the faces for the hint of recognition. They had to realise their dragons were running out of room in the weyrling barracks. That the time to move to the weyrling ground weyrs was around the corner? Besides, with Oriath's clutch so recently joining them, and 12 more eggs on the sand, there really was a shortage of space in the barracks.

Before things got too noisy in light of what should be dawning on them, Wa'by revealed a piece of hide not dissimilar to the sort they would have seen way back when they first impressed. "Righteo then. Here's how it's going down. Nal and Goldilocks get the biggest weyr right down the back. Ain't no point tryin' to trade with 'er 'cause that's how it is. The rest of 'em, however, are all the same ol' ridgy didge. So if you decide you wanna do a switcheroonie with a mate, just make sure to tell Red or me." A stern note came to his voice at the last bit, the unspoken requirement that both parties would need to agree to the switch clear in his tone.

It was a little unorthodox, to be fair, allowing them to trade spaces with a clutch mate if they so desired. But there was no doubting some of the weyrlings got along better than others, and if he could avoid a fight by allowing them to pick their neighbours if everyone was in agreement, then he would rather do that than have them do it behind his back.

Another loud clap to bring attention back to him as he gave his final instructions. "So pack your things, take a gander at this here piece of hide and go set yourselves up. You got until lights out to be done and dusted or you're sleeping out in the bowl. As Big D would've told ya already, room inspections will be done once a week, so don't go making an arse out of yourself by being the first weyrling to leave your weyr looking like a wher's breakfast." A grin before he was gesturing madly for them to be off, making eye contact with the weyrlings that had decided to be nosy and stick around and adding for their benefit.

"Goarn and help'em then. Ain't no point lollygagging out here when there's work to be done." What's the fun if not everyone can be involved!

Spoiler for OOC:
Alright! This is an Open thread for all weyrlings, regardless of whether you're part of the clutch. OOC post is here for further information.

It had been a while since Aitorith hatched, but while his clutchmates all seemed to have a better idea of how to coordinate their limbs, T'vye's bronze bonded still hadn't quite managed to go a day without tripping, stumbling or any other ungainly action that one would only ever expect from a hatchling. He'd made it quite clear that he didn't like to be closely surrounded by others, wanting the opportunity to fill as much of the available space as possible without needing to concern himself with making room for someone else. It wasn't rude so much as it was a convenience he didn't enjoy giving up.

When he was standing still, however, even without the bright rays of sunshine making his hide almost glow, however, one could easily forget whatever clumsy antics they had witnessed before, and simply bask in the golden-bronze glow of the perfectly appropriate bronze weyrling they were in the presence of.

As far as T'vye was concerned, that is.

Which was precisely why he had chosen to oil the bronze out in the weyrling barracks once he'd finished his meal. He'd eaten quickly and left with plenty of time to spare, claiming a space as close to the centre of the room as he could manage and working hard to ensure every single inch of his bonded was worked over. There was undoubtedly ego involved in his desire to do such a thing, pride in his dragon making him want everyone else to see what a glowing example he was for the rest of the weyr, but there was also a very, very small part of him that worried. A part of him that didn't get an opportunity to rear its head but which would bubble to the surface of his nightmares - if he ever cared to admit he had such things.

If he didn't sufficiently care for Aitorith. Aitorith could get hurt. And if Aitorith got hurt…

well…

Aitorith wasn't going to get hurt.

The fact was, T'vye and Aitorith occupied the centre of the weyrling barracks when Assistant Weyrlingmaster Wa'by so rudely interrupted, stealing all the glory that was to be had from such a  shining example of dragonkind with his gathering of the '89 weyrlings. The bronzer rolled his eyes as the bluerider started prattling on with his stupid words, gesturing wildly and making a complete nancy of himself.

Am satisfied now. Can we go to our room?

The growing crowd of onlookers was irking the dragon slightly, his wings pressing tighter against his body in an attempt to conserve as much space around him as possible even as the slightest tinge of yellow tainted his otherwise pleasantly whirling eyes. Sharing with two other dragons wasn't ideal, but the room was perfectly large enough to accommodate them thus far, and he at least wouldn't have to concern himself with the press of people  if they were no longer there.

Just a little longer, Aitorith? We might be able to help. T'vye's mental voice was distracted, cold almost as he tried to see over the heads of the weyrlings surrounding Wa'by. He did at least step closer to his bonded, placing a comforting hand on the dragon while trying to minimise the press of people as much as he could.

Do not understand how. Aitorith grumbled, craning his neck in a mimicry of his bonded as he tried to find out what was so interesting as to force them to remain a part of the crowd.

He hadn't been interested in the announcement, but the hushed chatter that occurred as those interested realised what was happening had made it impossible not to know. The oldest weyrlings were moving to their ground weyrs… And they weren't even being properly assigned their rooms.

"Go on Aitorith, I need to speak to the Assistant Weyrlingmaster. I'll be with you soon." T'vye said quickly as the bronze's continued irritation prickled across their bond, the words followed by a sudden sense of relief followed by only the slightest taint of curiosity.

After a pause, and moment where he hunched down, as if to stay put until T'vye was ready to come too, Aitorith hummed his agreement. His discomfort outweighing his curiosity as he turned to head back to their own room, where he need only contend with his roommates and not the entire weyrling population. Will wait for you. He confirmed as if he would have done anything else before his attention turned to those he would have to pass to get to the room.

He was not shy about vocalising his presence as he hobbled off, brushing as lightly as possible against the minds of those in his way and asking, rather politely despite the rudeness of his actions, that they step aside to let him by. He was aware enough to keep the invasion of other people's minds somewhat separate from his link with T'vye, having been scolded more than once in the past (privately, of course) for doing so. He would get away with it this time too, since T'vye was more occupied with sidling through the crowd to get closer to Wa'by.

You see, while everyone else had been occupied with the fact that there would be more room in the barracks with Kalestath's clutch gone, and the weyrlings from Oriath's clutch of the same year probably looking forward to their turn since it should not be too far away, T'vye had realised something rather disconcerting.

Kalestath's '89 clutch was the one that contained the gold Minath… As well as a sorry proportion of mutations to proper Bronze's and the creepy little reds that had first appeared like a bloody read carpet prior to the gold's appearance… And without assigned rooms, T'vye knew one of the blasted abominations wouldn't hesitate to get as close as possible to the junior weyrwoman so as to benefit their nefarious agenda.

As a Bronze Rider it was his right - no his duty to ensure such a thing did not happen.

"Excuse me sir, but I ask that you allow myself and Aitorith, you know Aitorith, right? He's my Bronze. He's currently in our room but I can call him out if you need me to." A brief segue to ensure that the weyrlingmaster knew who he was speaking to. Bronze outranked blue, after all, "I think it is imperative that you place myself and Aitorith in the weyr next to our Junior Weyrwoman."

He did not glance away from the older man as he spoke, very much the picture of a confident bronzerider far older than he actually was. "Aitorith and I have nothing but respect for our Junior Weyrwoman, and feel as though, despite our age, she needs a more…" a slight hesitation as he searched for a word that wasn't too derogative. He could be diplomatic after all. "…stable neighbour than what some of the other weyrlings could provide." If the way his scowl increased at the word "other" hadn't given away just what he had been referring to, the quick sideways glance at the closest of the black weyrlings would have.

What was not quite so obvious was the fact that most of his disdain towards mutations usually centred around those in Kalestath's clutch and Neisoth himself, though the latter had redeemed themselves in siring Aitorith for him. His clutchmates he treated with a cool indifference, focussed more on showing them why Bronze Weyrlings were better than worrying about competing against them. Sinestath and T'ghen being the exception of course. The double standard was not something he thought about, however, as he waited to hear the weyrlingmaster agree to his well-reasoned argument, and to be honest, would probably continue should Kalestath's next clutch prove to have mutations as well.

In any case, he truly believed the blacks would prove most unsavoury in their attentions to the young gold, and since his own preferences lay in Aitorith's inevitable capture of Kalestath herself once he was old enough to fly, thus proving that his dragon was the best of the best, there wasn't even a second thought given to the possibility of he or Aitorith having otherwise nefarious intentions towards Minath and Nalata.

The mutations though?

They just oozed sinister intentions.

I needed some Bronze/Black tension and T'vye was happy to oblige. I'm not going to tag anyone because I invite anyone to get involved.
In case you're concerned though - (and since this one needs a response from Wa'by) T'vye won't be able to move into a ground weyr. He'll be laughed at and told just that. From Wa'by at least. But anyone who wants to get involved can also be the one to break the news to the little jerkface.

As far as A’lori was concerned, this was the first step toward becoming a real rider. He and Queriluth might still have another a turn before they would officially graduate and join the Wings of the Weyr, but moving out of the barracks? Getting their own room? That was no minor milestone, and he’d been excited about it for weeks. While the official day they’d be moving out had been kept a bit under wraps, the timing was right—from what he knew from weyrlings that had already crossed this threshold, anyway. And so when his class had been told to gather in the Barracks right after dinner, it had been the first thing his mind had jumped to.

To have it confirmed by Wa’by just had him grinning. They were getting their own weyr! That consideration overrode pretty much anything else, even nearly his curiosity about who he’d be sharing walls with.

It was a bit bittersweet to leave A’tor and Yedeth behind in their old room, but the two of them would be making this transition soon enough themselves. Maybe A’lori could convince A’tor to help him move his things? He’d be happy to return the favor when their time came around too, whenever that was.

Either way, this was exciting!

He scooted closer to the listing of room assignments, using his height to peer over his shorter classmates to get a good look at it. It took a moment to scan for his name and find it, but when he did A’lori bounced on his feet over to Nalata, beaming. “I’m right next to you!”

Prior, he’d never have thought he’d end up being friends with a Queen rider, but there they were. Even with the shininess of her dragon’s hide, Nalata was infinitely more approachable than Halirina, Vanelwynne, or even Eimerra, due in no small part to the fact that she’d been going through the same training and trials that the rest of them had been. And where others might have vied for her favor with the expectation that someday their dragons might catch hers, A’lori was just happy to be her friend. After all, Queriluth was a Green—there was no conflict of interest there. And it’s not as though he was going to receive some special treatment for being her friend.

Nalata was still just a person, like the rest of them.

But where he was thrilled about the knowledge they’d be neighbors, Queriluth was less so. You’re kidding, right? she asked him, voice almost plaintive and waspish all at once. I’m going to have to be near her Of course, she was talking about Minath rather than Nalata; the Gold’s rider, she had not a problem with at all. But oh, couldn’t she have been on some other color? Another respectable Green like herself? A’lori’s dragon wasn’t a talkative thing to anyone else, but another Green she could at least have been quiet friends with…

Instead, Minath was going to eclipse her forever, it seemed. Always. Annoyed, Queriluth curled up on her sleeping couch in their old shared room. Move all our things first, A’lori. I’ll join you there… later…

//It won’t be that bad, you big drama queen.// It was something he wouldn’t share with Nalata, though. He didn’t want her feeling bad just because his dragon happened to be out of sorts. And having joined her already, he didn’t hear T’vye’s words with Wa’by. But A’lori would stand his ground at having the weyr next to Nalata’s. Both because she was his friend—perhaps his only good one in their entire class—and because he felt it would save her a headache.

Spoiler for OOC:
@Kyya Let me know if there’s anything I need to edit. I’m considering having either Erieen or T’ghen get into an argument with T’vye. :para:

Nalata made sure she wasn't late returning to the barracks after dinner. While for the most part she had taken the after-hours summons in stride, a small part of her couldn't help but wonder if perhaps this was because of something she (or Minath) had done in the lessons earlier that day. It was important that the weyr know that even a gold rider was not above the rules of the weyr, so it would not have surprised her one bit.

But between Minath's reassurance that was borderline scolding for saying such a thing, and the bits of conversation she heard while sitting down for her meal it was a relatively calm junior weyrwoman who had made their way past the boy oiling his bronze to wait for Wa'by's announcement. When it came, she found herself pleasantly surprised, not having anticipated the possibility that they were actually far enough along in their training to get their own room.

About time. I do not understand why we have had to share our room for so long. Minath said softly, a flicker of annoyance bubbling through their bond as she turned in the direction of their roommate's half of the room. They had at least been paired with a small dragon, so she had room to move about. But having her own weyr with the most space was much more acceptable for a dragon of her stature.

It was not just Minath who was relieved by the chance for their own weyr, however, the tension between the growing gold and the much smaller red having caused a bit of a rift between herself and Sa'se. Had Minath been more forgiving, and Astereth less… in her face all the time, they would have managed something akin to the relationship Minath and Queriluth shared. That is to say one where the two dragons tended to pointedly ignore eachother while their human counterparts managed to socialise. Unfortunately it had not seemed to be in the red's nature to know when to leave well enough alone, and her exuberance, particularly when space was starting to get that little bit too coveted hadn't done their relationship any favours.

So moving to their own weyr, where they did not have to worry about keeping up appearances all the time and Minath could be given time to relax without the presence of her peers should do wonders for their future friendship.

She hoped.

Her response to Minath as to why they couldn't have moved out any sooner, however, was interrupted by the bouncing figure of A'lori, as they announced their assigned weyr being the one next door to her own. His excitement was contagious as Nalata realised it meant a turn at least knowing that her friend would simply be (in theory) a step away. In a private weyr of their own, where she could visit him whenever she wanted to talk to someone without fear of judgement or lessening herself in the eyes of the other riders.

Minath wasn't quite so pleased by the news, however, a mental huff at the idea of being neighbours with a green instead of the far more preferable bronze or blacks, or even perhaps a brown clutchmate simmering down their bond. It was brushed aside easily enough, and the gold did not deign to argue for another neighbour at least. So there was that. For all she may not have much love for the bonded of her Nalata's friend, she didn't really have a negative opinion on her. The green had never spoken directly to her unless required to by the leadership, and Minath could not fault her attitude towards their lessons.

She didn't respect her like she did her potential suitors… It would just be a whole lot of simply pretending the green didn't exist. At least she didn't pester her like some of the other, lesser colours did.

I will meet you there, then. We will see just how suitable our new room is. She responded instead, stretching slowly as she stood up from the stone couch she was just about too big for and stepping out of her room. She knew where her new weyr was. Nalata had investigated the area when she found out it was where they would one day move, and so only offered a gentle Of course, dearheart. to Minath as she moved away, her pace slow and deliberate, head held high as she passed those gathered, simply expecting them to step out of her way so she could leave.

"At least I won't have to apologise every other night for Minath being unnecessarily harsh to our roommate anymore." She said softly to A'lori, eyes flickering over to the red weyrling who had been a sort-of companion for the last turn and then some. They may not have spoken too much to one another, but that didn't mean she wouldn't miss him. Moving into the ground weyrs was another step forward, but also a very real reminder that they were heading towards the end of their time as weyrlings… and her responsibility was steadily increasing the closer to adulthood Minath became.

This was not a time to concern herself with the uncertainty of her future and what her place would be in a weyr with three weyrwoman already, however, and the knowledge that she would be so close to a true friend had her grinning widely as Wa'by told them to hurry along.

"Shall I help you pack your things?" She asked excitedly. Her things could wait, and without Minath hanging around, she could assist A'lori without rubbing Queriluth up the wrong way… Or so she hoped. It would be a much more enjoyable evening if she could spend the time moving out with someone else, and A'lori was pretty high up there on her list of people she would drop everything for.

The discontented grumble from Minath telling Nalata not to "demean herself in such a manner" was ignored, however, as she waited to see if A'lori would mind the extra pair of hands. Goldrider or not, she was a part of the weyr too, and that meant pulling your own weight every now and then.

Fortunately, A'lori's attention meant that she, too missed the young bronze weyrlings remarks to Wa'by, and with luck, they would start to move their things well before anything came of it. The last thing she wanted to deal with at this point in time was an uppity bronzer trying to "protect" her or whatever moved the younger weyrling so.

Spoiler for OOC:
Hope that's alright, @SirAlahn  As with all things, anyone who wants to join in can. She's just gonna try and help A'lori move out before she bothers with her own xD

Minath is ten months old in 06.2590. 24m long; 5.4m tall; 40.2m wingspan.

J'hal had had enough after dinner 'lessons' to not be thrilled with the prospect of another. Though word had it that this one might just possibly be the announcement that they'd be moving, what with the barracks being rather full and another load of Weyrlings surely imminent. The class before had moved over at roughly this time, after all. Surely his chance at getting a bit of shaffing privacy would be soon?

J'hal was not one taken to public displays of his emotions (or, well, happy ones at least), but the usually grumpy look that he wore on a day to day basis did abate on having that suspicion confirmed. Finally! We get our own weyr tonight! he shared with Lesserath, though the black was usually tuning in.

At last, Lesserath agreed, standing with a happy ruffle of his wings. Which one is ours, and I shall go inspect it? he added, looking over to the spare ground weyr from his place in the Weyrbowl.

Dunno, don't think we've been given assignments this time. 'Cept the back one, that's Nalata's apparently.

Of course, the black added dryly, though without any real rancour. He was too happy with getting his own Weyr to care that one was off limits. I'll pick one then, he added, heading over for a snoop.

I'll grab our stuff then. Meet you down there, J'hal replied the affirmative, thinking that though Lesserath's help in moving his chest and straps would make his life easier, he wouldn't begrudge the black getting second choice of the weyrs available. Turning toward his section of the barracks, hoping to get on with the task fairly quickly but being slowed down by the crowd of people milling around after hearing the news, his shuffled path took him close enough past Wa'by to hear T'vye's request.

He couldn't help but scoff. 'Imperative'? This kid had some fucking cheek. But then he was a bronzerider, having just made that abundantly clear as if that actually meant something to the Weyrlingmaster. He wasn't even part of their class!

It was the kids reasoning that really caught J'hal's attention, coupled with the disdainful look his way. He'd looked away again before J'hal could turn toward him, but that didn't stop the black Weyrling from staring T'vye dead in the eye as he spoke from behind Wa'by.

"And what makes you think you would do any better, pipsqueak?" 'Shitstain' would have been more appropriate, but he wasn't daft enough to say that with one of the Weyrlingmasters right there.

@Kyya Had to finish in a rush, hope it's not too pathetic lol

Well he had heard the news to come to the weyrling barracks right after supper and he did just that. Standing there he listened to everything that was said and looked at Wa'by as he did. This was going to be fun. Good thing him and Corvath did not have much to move other than the leathers and his clothing.

I can get the leathers if you want me to. Can we get close to Minath and Queriluth. I would like a Weyr close to the two prettiest ladies in the group.

I guess you can carry the leathers if you do not hurt them and yes find one close to Minath and Queriluth. I like their riders as well. They are both good people. If you like the dragons then that is better.

When he saw the young bronze rider ask about a weyr he started to laugh at the young man. He looked at the J'hal and watched him talk to the young man.  He walked up to J'hal and looked at T'vye. "You know Dimglow you think your so big and strong to leave but you got a lot more to learn before that can happen." A smirk crossed his face as he spoke.

Corvath was still in the area and gave the young Bronze rider a nod as if to say his rider was right. before he turned and walked to the room he shared to get the leathers he made sure his little Blue pal helped as well.

“Mhmm. It’ll be nice to have space to stretch out, so to speak.” A’lori couldn’t help but follow Nalata’s glance over to Sa’se as she spoke, the action out of reflex rather than any malice. He had nothing against the other weyrling, despite Queriluth’s belief that Astereth was rather rude. That, he supposed, was one thing she and Minath had in common, which had him smiling a bit. “Some privacy too, you know?” After first living in the Candidate barracks and then the weyrling ones, A’lori was certainly ready for having some space to himself. He might still be a turn away from entertaining a certain kind of visitors, but he was thankful that they’d be moved and settled in long before he ever had to worry about Queriluth rising for her first Flight.

“That would be lovely. And then I’ll help you after, hmm?” Practically beaming, he linked his arm with Nalata’s and tugged her down the hall toward the room that had been his and A’tor’s for the last turn. Some might have thought the gesture was over-familiar, but that was just about the furthest thing from his own mind, given the depth that their friendship had developed over their time as classmates.

Happy and excited, the Green weyrling was content to chatter on a bit as they went. “I don’t have a lot of things that need moving.” Which wasn’t a lie, exactly, but A’lori probably had a comparable amount to most other weyrlings. Clothes, riding gear, items necessary for personal grooming and tending to Queriluth—but nothing significantly heavy or unwieldly. “It shouldn’t take long, anyway.”

As they stepped into the room, A’lori let go of Nalata’s arm and moved over to where Queriluth was reclining on her sleeping couch, absently smiling up at her as he scratched under her chin and she thrummed in response, somewhat mollified. His attention flicked around to his side of the room then. “One of the nice things about the Weyrlingmasters doing so many inspections means that everything’s put away, at least. So what do you think we should move first?”

Wa'by laughed. It wasn't the most professional of things to do but it couldn't be helped. Such a serious little request with a rather unfounded reasoning behind it. "Yeah nah, Squirt. You're dreamin'." He said as he reached out with his spare hand to ruffle the boy's hair. "Anywoozle. Stretch over there is bunking up next door to Goldilocks. He doesn't strike me as the kind of fella willing to swap with anyone." he added before turning away to talk to another of the weyrlings.

There was no need to give T'vye any further attention just then, though he'd be lying if he said J'hal and M'lan's comments didn't go unnoticed. It could be difficult to manage the tension that surrounded the oddly coloured dragons and their "traditional" counterparts, even after they became fully fledged riders… And since this was something all three young men would need to deal with for the rest of their lives, it would be better to simply see how they handled it.

A few nasty words did not mean immediate intervention, and as Wa'by stepped aside to be at a better vantage point in case the circumstances escalated, he found himself wondering as to whether the same tension between this young Bronzer and his fellow clutchmates existed. He'd make a note to check in on Wazza soon to find out if there were any reason for concern regarding the weyrling's prejudice. It might be worth having the older weyrlings pair up with his group to try and bridge the gap. They'd all have to work together one day, after all.

Ready to step in if necessary, Wa'by simply hovered in the weyrling barracks, attention on the other weyrlings who were looking for their room placement and taking note of the room changes as a few early switcheroos were made. He'd not leave unless something more pressing came up, but he wouldn't prevent the kids from sorting their own messes out for the moment.

T'vye's irritation at being referred to as "Squirt" was quickly replaced by a sneering sense of superiority. He didn't care to listen to Wa'by's comment that someone else was lined up to room in the weyr next to Nalata's, occupied instead by the black rider who had decided to address him… as if his opinion counted for something. It wasn't even the insult that had him straightening up, levelling his gaze to J'hal as Wa'by stepped aside to deal with... whatever it was he actually did.

Before he had the chance to respond to the other weyrling, another opened their mouth and spouted some nonsense that he didn't really feel needed to be unjumbled at that point. The interruption itself, however. That definitely needed to be addressed.

"Your lack of manners proves my point far better than anything I could say in response, however I can better articulate it once you give me leave to address your-" again, a slight sneer over his features as the insult he wanted to say was replaced with a more diplomatic word "- colleague"

He did not wait for M'lan to give him permission though. The other weyrling had blatently interrupted, and through the lack of civilised manners, forfeited any opportunity to be treated with respect himself. So his attention, instead turned to J'hal once more, his features shifting to over-the-top horror.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't stutter, so I can only assume your intellect is as dim as your dragon's hide." He said with feigned innicence, the tone dropping as he finished speaking. "I'll use smaller words so you both can understand." Might as well include both idiots in the conversation since M'lan hadn't felt inclined to leave yet.

"I-" T'vye placed a hand on his chest as he did so. Speaking slowly so they couldn't possibly misunderstand. "-T'vye of Bronze eye-tore-ith, respect the Junior Weyrwoman-" he pointed in Nalata's direction then, despite the woman in question already disappearing into A'lori's room with him "-and would not abuse the honour of being next to her room." It was moot, now, of course, since Wa'by said there would be a greenrider next to her. A male greenrider, sure, but a traditional colour next to a traditional queen. A much better choice than one of the blacks in any case.

Spoiler for OOC:

J'hal wasn't particularly thrilled when M'lan joined him and decided to offer his own quarter-mark against the younger weyrling. He didn't need nor want the other black weyrling backing him up, which is what it looked like he was doing by moving to stand beside him, but for the sake of giving a somewhat unified front against bratty bronzeriders J'hal did no more than flick his eyes in M'lan's direction when he spoke. He could practically feel Lesserath's attention focus in on him and the other Weyrlings, like the black had some sixth sense for drama starting, particularly when it revolved around his rider. That was one form of backup that J'hal did appreciate.

As it turned out, T'vye's reaction to M'lan's 'interruption' made it worth having him around after all, if only because it appeared to irritate the bronze weyrling so. It meant that he could return a smirk with much more genuine satisfaction than he would have been able to muster just then otherwise. Must think those big words make him sound so superior, he thought aside to Lesserath, knowing that he wouldn't have to direct it at his dragon specifically for the black to hear it.

Indeed, Lesserath answered, an edge to his voice as he hunkered down in the entrance to whichever weyr he'd been inspecting at the time. There were more pressing matters to attend to now, it seemed. And are you going to play his little game? J'hal, while Lesserath thought he was brilliant in many ways, was woefully unprepared for a battle of wits and words the like of which this Weyrling seemed to wish to play with the pair of them. He wasn't about to let his rider embarrass himself like that if he could help it.

J'hal glanced at where Wa'by had moved off to. He was almost certainly keeping an eye on them. Not far enough, even if they weren't surrounded by other Weyrlings one of which would undoubtedly snitch if he were to knock T'vye's lights out like he so dearly wished he could. Shaffit. He crossed his arms across his chest as he looked back to T'vye, looking for all the world like he was patiently waiting for the bronze weyrling to deal with the 'interruption' before he would reply to him, while he was merely making it harder for himself to give in and punch the guy. Alright. You lead.

He couldn't help the eyebrow raised in slightly incredulous surprise as T'vye did begin actually speaking to him instead of M'lan. The fuck is this kid on? Did he really think he could just stand there mocking them like that and that they wouldn't get it? Such arrogance from someone who was barely older than his dragonet.

Don't let it get to you, Lesserath warned.

Nah, really? He did make it look so appealing though. It'd stop him talking at least.

Don't.

"As do we," he said quickly, before M'lan had a chance to get a word in edgeways. He took a small pause to look at the other blackrider briefly, allowing himself to catch up with what Lesserath was saying in the back of his mind before speaking further. "And not just because of the colour of her dragon's hide." He felt fairly certain that he could speak for the both of them in saying that. As far as he knew, none of them had any designs on Nalata because of the colour of her hide if only because all three of them, T'veck included, would rather stay as far out of the public eye as possible. "I cannot possibly fathom what intentions we would have to abuse her honour that you, a bronzerider, would not share, if indeed we were inclined to them in the first place." The words felt foreign coming from his own mouth, but J'hal managed at least to not chew them out. "I can assure you we are not," he finished after a short pause, letting his tone drop back to a more familiarly threatening level.

"Besides," he added, bringing back a bit of the smirk from earlier, "you didn't answer my question."

I didn't say that, Lesserath grumbled, though proud of his rider for not having messed up his little speech.

Well, he didn't. He needed to be reminded of his own stupidity.

Yes, but it wasn't exactly eloquent, was it?

Nope. But it was honest.

Sa'se listened to what was being said as well as his girl Astereth. They where getting their own weyr and he was happy about it. Astereth on the other hand was jumping around and making noise as she hears the news.

We get a new weyr one to ourselves. Can we go now please please please. I want to go now Sa'se. Why can we not go now? I want to go now. Can we go I want to go. Lets go now.

All the while bouncing around and not sitting still. She was a hand full for Sa'se but he did not mind. He loved his girl and would do anything for her. Not now Aster lets wait a minute. We need to pick one first and then from there get our stuff out of the old room we had before moving it to the new Weyr.

But I don't want to wait. Can I go check them out and find us a weyr to move into and you just get the stuff?

We will look together. You will have to wait.

Astereth runs around the area not staying still and Sa'se tries to keep up with her "Astereth calm down we will go in a minute. Wa'by is there a Wery that I can take her to that She would like and she won't do much damage to?" He ask the Assistant Weyrling Master as he chases Astereth who is being overly hyper at the moment.

It was clear that J'hal was the more… intelligent of the two "riders" talking to him, though T'vye almost sneered as he thought the word. Just because one dimglow was slightly brighter than the other didn't make them any less of a dimglow. In any case, what it meant was M'lan mattered little. He'd managed only a few words before T'vye decided to just ignore him altogether. Besides, The other blackrider was doing enough speaking for the both of them… Pointless though it may be. Anything other than "yessir" seemed like overkill from a weyrling such as J'hal or M'lan.

The fact J'hal's "speech" changed to something that sounded almost like a threat made T'vye scoff, his posture slumping further into a position that was unmistakably bored of the black riders excuses. "Forgive me if I have a hard time taking your word for it. You and your ilk have shown nothing but a disregard for authority since your "dragons" first hatched. Everyone knows you're just biding your time so you can secure all the leadership positions to then twist and shape the weyr into cesspool of treachery and deceit." he sneered in response, his tone nothing even close to the  sort one used with his peers. It was apparent he didn't value the weyrling before him in the slightest, and his disregard for even the tiniest bit of respect towards him was obvious.

"Aitorith and I have no intention to chase Minath. We'll catch Kalestath once he is old enough, and put a proper weyrleader in charge once more. Not a child atop an abomination. Could you say the same? An undisciplined hold-brat such as yourself would be hard pressed to actually control yourself once a gold were to rise. And the closer you are to Minath, the more likely it is that you would cheat." He almost spat the word, so certain was he that their weyrleader had to have done just that to win, despite the consistency with which he caught Kalestath. Only partially second to his opinion on the sire of his bonded was the idea that B'ron and Leremith had managed to be outsmarted on so many separate occassions. Just further proof that new, traditional blood was needed to compete with the monstrosities that kept popping up each turn.

"Faranth yes" Nalata sighed in response to the mention of space to themselves. There was a large chance it would be short lived, since Minath would fly soon enough, and there was a high chance her future weyrmate would stay with her. It wasn't compulsory, by any means, but it was always a possibility. One turn of actual solitary living before that became the norm would be… well… pleasant. And knowing it would be A'lori next door was reassuring to say the least. Minath and Queriluth may not get along, but there was no need for the dragons to share the same space… Each seeming perfectly content to simply ignore the other.

Despite the turn her thoughts were taking, A'lori's enthusiasm quickly grounded her, and she laughed as he practically dragged her towards his room. Had he been bonded to a male dragon, the familiarity may have been seen as inappropriate, though there may still be some who would frown on the behaviour. But in this, Nalata was unwavering. Goldriders sacrificed so much because of their position. She didn't need to sacrifice friendships too - certainly not one as beneficial as what she had with A'lori.

She was still chuckling when they got to his room, bowing slightly to Queriluth as A'lori approached her despite the irritation Minath felt at such a mannerism. It did not hurt to be respectful to the green dragon, and unlike Minath, Nalata didn't feel as though the lower ranked dragons were beneath her. They had as much of a role in the survival of the weyr as any other dragon, and she couldn't expect anyone, dragon or otherwise, to respect her if she didn't show the appropriate respect to them as well.

"It's like they knew it would make things easier." She laughed in response to the comment about room inspections, her smile fading to a look of concentration as she looked over the room.

"Bulky items first, I think. That way we have something of a break before it comes to my room." she said with a nod towards the straps and leather items that made up most of Queriluth's riding gear. Her smile was back now that a decision had bene made, as she set forth to get as much of it as she could together for their first trip out of the barracks.

That Nalata bowed to her surprised Queriluth a fair bit, and the Green watched her with faintly suspicious eyes as A’lori moved away from her again. Was the Gold rider mocking her…? Were the Green a more vocal dragon, she might have commented on such a thing, but—

//Nalata isn’t like that,// her rider chided her gently instead, glancing at her again even as he waited for his friend's reply. //She’s being polite.//

I see. But here was definitely a hint of approval in her sweet purr then, and the Green answered Nalata’s gesture with a soft thrum of acknowledgment. She might not enjoy interacting with other dragons or humans in general, but she would still hum to them when she was pleased—and having a Queen rider be respectful toward her in her and A’lori’s own space went a significant distance in mollifying the Green out of her previous annoyance.

“Bulky it is.” Moving to join Nalata, A’lori pulled as much of Queriluth’s straps and gear as he could carry into his arms. Even for a relatively small dragon, there was just so much of it. He couldn’t even imagine what moving all of Minath’s was going to be like. But it was gratifying to realize just how much stronger he’d gotten in the last year; at the start of his weyrling training, A’lori knew, he would have had little hope of carrying this all by himself like he was required to most of the time.

“Ladies first,” he teased once they’d gotten the straps gathered up between the two of them. And to Queriluth, he asked, //Are you sure you still want to wait to see the weyr?//

Yes. I’ll still be able to see it through you, my A’lori. But despite Nalata’s placatingly polite gesture, the Green was still less than thrilled about being in close proximity to her Gold sister.

Nalata was relieved when Queriluth thrummed at her. The dragon's approval lightening her step and adding a certain amount of levity to her interactions with A'lori. They were already at a disadvantage between their draconian counterparts, so it was nice to have her own presence tolerated.

She waited only so long as required to hear if A'lori agreed before she started gathering up a portion of the straps, leathers and buckles that made up Queriluth's riding gear. She was pleasantly surprised to find her arms full without weight being an issue, realizing only half a breath later that it was because she was used to carrying Minath's gear in bulk - a pointed difference in size meaning less of the same gear.

Her smile grew brighter at the realization that she was stronger now than when she first impressed Minath, though not quite so much as the other weyrlings, a fact that had little chance of changing any time soon. At least she could manage somewhat. "Why thank you, kind sir" she laughed at A'lori's teasing, straightening up and making a show of walking past him and out towards the ground weyrs.

She grinned when the greenrider fell into step beside her, her features softening after her brief mannerism change. Faranth forbid she ever become so standoffish around A'lori in future. "Your room, your rules." she said when they arrived, the weight of Queriluth's gear combined with her loyalty to her friend stopping her from going that little bit further and investigating her weyr as well. There was more than enough time for that.

"Where do you want this?" she finished, never quite managing to stop the smile that constantly curved her lips. This was all so exciting.

Exciting, yes. But do not forget your duties to your queen as well. the gold interrupted hastily, though there was a peaceful contentment underlying her otherwise harsh tone that spoke to the fact she knew Nalata would not dare forget about her, as well as her own pleasure with the weyr that was to be hers for another turn.

I'll oil you once everything has been moved here Nalata promised, certain that it would be sufficient in mollifying her bonded. They might be moving two rooms worth of gear and belongings, but two people would get the job done quicker than one, and there was plenty of time afterwords for further soothing Minath's pride.

Nalata meeting his teasing with good humor was one of the things he loved about her. Had someone of an icier personality Impressed to the Gold in their clutch, he didn’t know that he would have been friends with her. But Nalata knew when not to take herself seriously, no matter that he suspected Minath didn’t agree with that. And so he returned her grin with one of his own as she stepped out ahead of him, following in her wake with his own armful of the straps and buckles.

“Um… over here.” A’lori cast about the inside of the new weyr a moment once they’d arrived, finding the spikes driven into the wall he’d observed in other riders’ weyrs. They were usually used for keeping a dragon’s straps up and off the floor, better preserving them when they weren’t in use. It was just that much more of a driving home that they were almost full riders to see such a thing.

He struck off across the space of the weyr to hang the straps, and couldn’t resist studying the surroundings a bit more in depth as he did so. It looked like just about any other rider’s personal weyr, but A’lori still felt a sense of pride that, however temporarily, it was his. The weekly inspections would certainly be motivation to keep it clean and tidy, but he’d never been particularly messy anyway.

It’s so big, Queriluth hummed in his head, peering out through his own viewing of the space. And private. No matter its proximity to her sister Queen, she seemed mollified at the excitement and newness of it all.

As he and Nalata deposited the straps, he laughed, “I bet yours must have half again as many hooks for your gear. Otherwise I think most of Minath’s straps would still be dragging on the ground.”
