Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
3.2591 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Feel free to say hello, guesties! Registered members can request a colored name here.

this holds no IC consequence and is only for fun.

While we feature 2 new mutations, we stick pretty close to canon. We've Ranks, roles, and positions for just about anyone who wants to get involved, with a relaxed community. Play and post at your own pace. Swing by and say hello!

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Flight of the Rising Sun [ 22.02.2591; 4:45 AM ] || Flight
« on: February 15, 2018, 07:06:27 PM »
X’hos’ day usually started in darkness, but this time when he woke it felt different. The air seemed thick despite the wind he could hear whistling through the Bowl outside, and his skin burned like the Weyr was gripped in the depths of summer rather than the very beginning of spring. A restlessness had settled in his body, and so X’hos shifted to rise on one elbow. Peering through the darkness of the weyr, he sought out the shape of Damerinth in the gloom.

She was sitting just at the exit to their weyr, staring out at the sky as the stars retreated for the day. A line of red had just started to appear on the horizon, but the sun hadn’t properly risen just yet. Her rider didn’t need to see Damerinth’s eyes to know they would be skewed purple with burgeoning Flight Lust.

//It’s time?// A question asked out of formality. He was already steeling himself to wake Meyelthra. No doubt she wouldn’t be pleased; she never was when someone else touched him, but at least she’d accepted this was part of his life. And it was a mercy that Damerinth only flew once a turn.

Yes. Now that X’hos was awake and had acknowledged her want, she stalked out onto the ledge beyond their weyr. The gusty wind felt good on her hide, cooling the heat radiating off of her. As soon as there was light in the sky, she’d look like she was glowing too. Damerinth was already a bright thing even before the luster of her Flight really took hold. I will give her a few moments to leave, but no more.

Waking Meyel before she wanted to be was always an adventure. Grumbling already from being roused—given that X’hos usually let her sleep after getting up for Wing duties—her mood soured even more when he quietly told her that this was the day.

They’d both known this was coming. X’hos was thankful that she didn’t argue even so, simply pulled on one of his shirts and stormed out of the exit with Meyesk and Snap in tow. No doubt she’d find something to occupy her time with during the Flight itself, but she’d be back soon after. And if whomever caught Damerinth hadn’t already vacated their bed, Meyelthra would no doubt eject them without ceremony.

X’hos didn’t bother to dress. Instead, he just sat on the bed and pulled the sheet over his lap so he wasn’t completely naked. He had no intention of moving anyway, and that way it would be easy to cast aside when his dragon chose her suitor.

The first sliver of sunlight shimmered over the line of the horizon, and Damerinth spread her wings to take to the air. Spinning just for the thrill of it, she was buffeted by the winds but allowed them to carry her instead of fighting them. Long used to her antics, X’hos found they didn’t make him nauseous through their bond anymore—but he did give himself fully over to the melting barriers between them. This was her day, and he’d make no attempt to reign her in.

Twirling above the Weyr Bowl, Damerinth reached out in a bright croon to the males of Southern Winds. Let’s have a distraction, boys. After the Hunter attack of eight days before, the Weyr was in need of some diversion. And though only one could win her, she’d do her best to entertain them all until she made her choice. Come and play with me.

Spoiler for OOC:
As always, you can check into the OOC thread in addition to or instead of posting here. Damerinth isn’t a force catch, but she does like to be impressed, so those that may be flashy, competitive, or playful will attract her attention more than others.

I’ll be posting a response in another day or so depending on the posting rate. Good luck to all!

Meyelthra was used to certain things at this point in her life. Sleeping in was one of those things. This was as much her weyr, if not more hers, than it was X’hos’. She’d sort of moved it however many turns ago and had since simply believed it to be hers. It didn’t matter that the Green Rider had been there first – such things just didn’t matter to Meyelthra.

When X’hos hadn’t sought to chase her away as so many had before, it’d slowly become her home. Routine and familiarity ingrained that thought at this point and she did not like, at all, the times that X’hos would wake her early for whatever reason.

Especially his blasted dragon’s flights. It wasn’t like she bothered him by alerting him whenever she let Meyesk participate in a Run. So when she was rudely woken up and told that this morning his sharding Green needed to go out and fly, and she needed to vacate so he could get mounted, she glared at him, pulled on a shirt, and shoved at Meyesk. It’d probably be poor form to have her wher mauling whomever showed up, no matter how happy it’d make her. With one last glare over her shoulder, Meyelthra made her way out of her weyr so her lover could spend some time with someone else.

Snap was put on watch duty so she’d know the moment that the Flight was over. If anyone wanted to take bets, they’d be smart to bet that Meyelthra would be back the moment his sharding Green was done to take back her space and her Green Rider.

Until then, she stormed down to the weyrhall for some klah. Meyesk trotting lazily after her.

Spoiler for OOC:
She'll totally be there for the aftermath. >:3

Wake up.

Z'ryr rolled groggily to one side of the bed, opening his eyes just the tiniest crack to peer towards Rhymoth's ledge. The light of sunrise tinging the walls of the caves a pretty orange-red colour. So it was that early huh?

I want to chase a green.

Realising A'yara was asleep beside him, he barely managed to contain his audible groan, and instead contented himself with a quiet sigh. 'Of course you do.' But there was no complaint anymore, Rhymoth was well within his rights to ask to chase a green, and Z'ryr was certainly not going to begrudge him that.

As quietly as possible, he slipped from his bed, hoping that A'yara would not be woken by his departure, nor that she slipped into nightmares while he wasn't there. But he couldn't protect her all the time, as much as he wanted to, and Rhymoth had been rather polite about it all.

Wiping a hand over his face to rid himself of the last vestiges of sleep, he only bothered with pants, leaving his shirt on the floor where it had been thrown when he had fallen into bed last night after a satisfying star watch with Rhymoth.

'So where am I going?'

Rhymoth paused at the edge of the Weyr ledge, about to take off into the sky. Damerinth's Weyr. Like any self-respecting brown, the fellow kins name came easily to him, but the human? Not so much.

Unfortunately, the name didn't ring a bell for Z'ryr. It certainly wasn't because he didn't care about names, but there were a lot of riders in the Weyr now, at least that was his excuse. 'Drop me.'

It was simpler for all involved, although Rhymoth huffed at the delay, earning him a quick shush from Z'ryr. Rhymoth barely waited for Z'ryr to dismount before taking to the skies once more, dipping his head at her in greeting, but hovering in wait for her to begin.

To play with you would be the sun's greatest gift.

X’hos made no move to greet those who slowly trickled into his weyr. Whatever lack of propriety that might have represented would no doubt be forgiven due to Flight Lust; it was different for all Greens and their riders in small ways, but the disorientation of it was fairly consistent. More than that, though, he didn’t want to bother. This wasn’t for them, as far as he was concerned. It was for Damerinth and her rare chance to get some much-deserved attention from the male dragons in the weyr. If those gathering were from his own Wing or the others, it didn’t matter.

They were all equally ignorable until Damerinth made her choice.

The Green lady herself, on the other hand, was more than eager to say hello to each Bronze, Brown, and Blue that rose to chase after her. Crooning to them sweetly—playfully—she twirled among them lazily:  a clear indication that she wasn’t beginning the Flight. Not just yet.

She wasn’t in a rush.

To those like Rhymoth who greeted her with words, Damerinth responded to them in kind. Sweet words, sir Brown, she purred, winging close to him but not quite touching him. And then, with a hint of a challenge in her voice, she broadcast her words to them all.

Show me what you’re made of.

With that, she shot straight upwards, climbing higher and higher toward the dawning sky. They’d need space for the kinds of maneuvers she was going to demand of them, but she’d test them in keeping up with her first.

Spoiler for OOC:
I didn’t want to let this languish, but anyone still interested in joining is welcome to post! The thread is effectively open up until the Flight itself ends. ^_^

Are you kidding me, H'vier's brain groaned as Kadoreth interrupted his nice lie-in. It was one of those times when he woke up and didn't actually want to get up; for all that his waking hours were long and he tried to provide considerable attention to his work and to his wing members, he liked to nap when he could. And waking up a little early, getting ready and then getting back in bed until he was about to leave for his morning ... it was nicer not to have that interrupted.

But Kadoreth wouldn't have that. He had often showed interest in Jungle greens before, but now that it was his wing, he tried to chase every one of them at least once a Turn. Of course he couldn't possibly manage it, especially not those who rose during duties, but at a time like this? As soon as he heard Damerinth's call, he was all about it.

I could just leave you here.

"No," H'vier snapped, rolling back out of bed and pulling his jacket back on, "You could take me to the bowl. So I can go eat. And then we go do our jobs."

Nope.

How about yes?

How about nope, the bronze insisted, and at that point, H'vier gave up. Okay. So Kadoreth won this time. He mounted quickly and hoped eagerly that X'hos' dragon made it quick, just as much as Kadoreth was looking forward to a longer, more fun flight. He was dropped off unceremoniously, and only then did Kadoreth kick in the fancy flying.

You make a good argument, he crooned to the rising green, evenly and neatly flapping upward, trying to catch rising sunbeams on the highlights and patina of his wings. Maybe he could make the light bounce off them, look a little shinier. That was the fun of the dawn, after all, much as H'vier hated it.

H'vier, who was doing his best not to look more glowery than he should; it had been a hard landing off Kadoreth's back, sending a quick shot of pain up his back. He barely moved from where he stood right then; Kadoreth was doing all the fancy motions. He didn't shoot off at the same speed as the green, knowing his size and endurance might have been impressive but he couldn't move that fast for as long, and kept his wingbeats even. Not trying to make it right to the front of the crowd, holding steady  until the time came that he might outlast some of the others.

But he was also more agile than many dragons of his color, and so he couldn't resist getting a couple of rolls and twists in while he did so. Just for fun. Because it was a game. And maybe a little bit because it made H'vier dizzy.

Rhymoth had always been a brown who liked to chase greens, after all, they were the best for them, in his humble opinion. Traditionally, all bronzes should invest themselves in the betterment of the Weyr, and all should be committed to their Queens as number one, regardless of any potential lower connections they may have. Browns on the other hand, should not chase Queens. They should chase greens, and they should win greens.

His relaxed rider may not have that same opinion, but Z'ryr rarely had opinions on anything. It was up to Rhymoth to make their position within the Weyr clear. The brown rider couldn't help but roll his eyes at the direction of his brown's thoughts, but when Rhymoth rose to chase, rumbling happily at the attention his words received, all thoughts flew from both of their minds, as Z'ryr let himself meld into Rhymoth.

It wasn't a disconcerting feeling anymore, in fact, it was liberating. It adding something new to the flying experience, and at times, after flights, Z'ryr almost wished that he too had wings, and the draconic instinct to let himself fully over to the lust. But most of the time, he was content with the sex he had removed from draconic influence.

Rhymoth for his part, had never been very good at the more agile moves, and even as he watched a bronze show off to his side, Rhymoth would not be baited. He would give Damerinth what she wished, but she had given him little indication so far that frivolous moves would win her affection. She had asked to show him what he was made of, and he was made for strength and endurance.

Keeping close to her tail, to keep her aware of his ability to keep up, and his determination to show not just to show off, Rhymoth kept this green beauty firmly within his sights.

Damerinth was a dragon with high expectations, and that extended to mates just as it did with everything else in her life. So when she demanded that those pursuing her win her affections, she expected them to do just that. Whether that meant keeping close on her heels and matching her wingbeat for wingbeat, or executing fancy maneuvers while they did so, was immaterial. Each dragon had their own unique strengths. Damerinth just wanted them to have fun with her, and maybe show off a little too.

She bugled to them happily as the chase began in earnest, flicking her tail behind her playfully. The rising sun shone brilliantly on her already bright hide, making her seem to glow in the light and shimmer as though she was metallic in her own right. Though she would never be able to compete with a Queen for size, stamina, or number of suitors, she was still a gorgeous thing.

Damerinth was determined to make them fall in love with her as deeply as X’hos had, if only for a few candlemarks.

The Green herself executed some twists and turns as she flew, darting through the air to test their ability to react to her motions. Once she’d risen high enough, far above the Weyr and the sparkling sea surrounding Fort Island, she sped east.

Dragons like her had to always be aware of their surroundings as they flew, dodging Hunters and drawing the creatures away from her larger Wingmates. There might be no obstacles out here in the open air, but they could still lose her against the brilliance of the sun if they weren’t paying close enough attention.

H'vier only didn't love, Kadoreth knew, because he was afraid of loving too deeply. Because he did love as deeply and thoroughly as was often possible. This was why he wasn't close to his children; a fear of loss. But Kadoreth knew how deeply H'vier loved him, and therefore he knew strongly what love was. And, from that, what adoration was.

It was adoration he was giving Damerinth then, flying after her with a low thrum in his throat and wordless, conceptual thought wrapping around how the light made her look and his enthusiasm for the chase. He wasn't usually one for fancy words or more than a couple fancy maneuvers, though he might have been more flexible than the average bronze. But he could try to word some of those thoughts, even if just a few: Scintillating, gleaming like sun on water. Brilliant, perfection.

(H'vier's chortle was only in his head; he was too busy being KadorethH'vier, a unit, to be able to independently offer true commentary on how eye-rolling his dragon's attempt to put words to feelings could be. But right then, he couldn't do it either. He was all feeling.)

The fanciful nature of Kadoreth's flight, the playful showing-off, had to be quickly dampened down because he was going to get tired, but that didn't mean it stopped outright.

Rhymoth wasn't the kind to fall in love, but he definitely could appreciate the beauty of the green ahead of him. The way the early morning rays of sun glinted off Damerinth's hide spurred him to respond to her movements, instead of simply doggedly following them.

When she twisted left, he mimicked her to the right, taking advantage of his larger wingstrokes to close the distance without getting too close still. Rhymoth spoke no words, not like the commentary of a rival bronze, instead when she executed something particularly extraordinary, Rhymoth would rumble his happiness, or bugle his appreciation instead.

The brilliance of the sun in his eyes did blind him slightly, but only momentarily, before he squinted his eyes against the glare, keeping the spots of green which swayed in his vision firmly within his sights.

Z'ryr couldn't help but notice appreciatively the exposed skin above sheet. In the back of his mind, the Weyr looked occupied by more than one person, but that didn't mean he couldn't enjoy the specimen in front of him even temporarily.

Damerinth appreciated all her suitors. Whether they tried to woo her with words or let their maneuvers speak for themselves, she adored each of them for their efforts.

But each time she flew, there were a few who stuck out from the rest. For whatever reason, they caught her eye more than the others, drew more of her attention:  in this case it was Kadoreth, with his flattering words, and Rhymoth, with his adept mimicking of her movements. Each of them would be a suitable mate for the morning, and it took Damerinth some time to decide which of them she would claim.

As they went, the others fell out of her awareness. Either they fell behind, or they failed to distinguish themselves from among the others. Eventually, there were only the two left as far as she was concerned—Bronze and Brown competing for her attention.

In the end, she let fate decide. Sweeping her wings up and outward, she caught a draft of wind and let it carried her toward one of them. Crooning to Kadoreth as she swooped closer, she told him, Come and claim your prize.

Spoiler for OOC:
RNG decided on Kadoreth since both were the sort Damerinth would have chosen. :3 Thank you both for participating!
