Current Month

9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome!

http://southernwindsweyr.net/Images/news icon copy.png We are a mature, 9th Interval AU Pern. We've destroyed almost the entire planet in a catastrophic event. While we feature 2 new mutations, we stick pretty close to canon. We've Ranks, roles, and positions for just about anyone who wants to get involved, with a relaxed community. Play and post at your own pace. Swing by and say hello!

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Regards,
Southern Winds Weyr

This was... nice. It'd been a while since Kyrrin had found somebody to just sit down with and chat without it being part of some job. It was pleasant to have no ulterior motive other than to just grouch at life. Meyelthra seemed to be of similar opinions about the hold, even if she was living at the weyr with the dragons.

Urgh. Dragons. She had better things to be thinking about than them.

She slid back onto her chair, putting the mugs onto the table with a slight thunk and propped her head up with one fist as she rested her elbow on the table. “So, what d'ya reckon, a turn before the hold has a rebellion on its hands?”

There were a lot of things that Meyelthra could guess might come out of Kyrrin’s mouth when she brought another cup back, but what she did say made her snort a very unladylike laugh. It was so absurdly amusing and definitely not something she’d heard in the Weyr that she couldn’t help it.

“A turn?” she asked, picking up her cup and taking a considering sip. It’d really depend on whether or not the Hall tried to curb the sort of things they were doing now – wher fights, gambling – or if they embraced it in some form or fashion. And whether or not the Weyr minded their own business. “It’s hard to say, really. If I had to bet all the marks I had? I’d say there might be some spats here and there before then, but maybe not a full out riot.”

As much as Meyelthra might enjoy the illicit activities of Fort, she also knew that those that did were likely outnumbered by those that didn’t. So fighting in the Hall would likely end up with a bunch of those that stirred things up either getting tossed out to the jungle or... well, what would they do with criminals?

“What about you? What would you put your last mark on?” She shot Kyrrin a grin before taking another sip.

“Oh, I'd put my last mark on a good fuck.” Kyrrin said with as straight a face as she could manage before the grin broke through. “I'd say maybe a couple of turns if they finish building things and don't try to ban too many of our... pursuits. Less than a turn if they try and stamp stuff out while we're all still crammed in together.”

Kyrrin shrugged, “There's only so far you can push people before they'll fight back no matter what.” She frowned, thinking. “Like in, where was it? High Reaches?”

Meyelthra had to toast to that bit. A good fuck was something she had paid marks for, before being brought to the weyr and shacking up with a selection of riders. Landing with X’hos had been her ticket to the good life. Quite literally. It just so happened that he happened to be good enough to keep around – and submissive enough he didn’t seem to be mind being used in turn.

Back at Fort Hold, Meyelthra had been one of the users. Not one of those being used. Which meant that creature comforts were often paid for. A safe place to sleep and a good romp in the bedfurs was no exception.

She took a deep drink while she nodded her agreement. What were they going to do about all the Holders that seemed to need the diversion? The entertainment? It wasn’t like Maeron could condone the brothels or the wher fights. He’d likely lose all his support from the traditional Holders. And he relied on them, especially since they outnumbered those that weren’t. But neither could they just pretend that this wasn’t something people wanted. Obviously. Otherwise it wouldn’t have flourished at Fort Hold and it wouldn’t have kicked back up at the Mine Hall once the opportunity presented itself.

“I think the most entertaining thing of all would be if someone ran up against Maeron for Lord Holder. It’s not like there’s a Hold for him to Lord over. He’s just playing at spokesman, right? So who’s to say we can’t get another one, right? Someone who might see things a little more... liberally, right?” Meyelthra shot Kyrrin a wicked smile. It was a grand idea, of course, but Meyelthra highly doubted it was going to happen. Damned Holders were so uptight. Even the men that slunk away in the tunnels to fuck a whore – despite being married – would swear up and down on their lives that they lived a traditional, no nonsense life.

She shook her head at the idea of High Reaches. That had sounded nasty, though she’d not been apart of it. The worst thing the Mine Hall could do was alienate itself from the Weyr. It might be an interval, but they still needed the Riders. Even if no one liked it.

Well, now, that's an idea that has merit. If they could find somebody to actually run against Maeron, which isn't actually that likely. He seemed to have done a good job of making sure his influential detractors didn't seem to make it, or that was the rumour Kyrrin had heard. Whether it was true or not, something like that would account for the power he seemed to hold without actually having a Hold.

“That'd be interesting.” She says with a grin. “Doubtful though, best we could probably get is one that's indifferent to us setting up our own... entertainment.”

“What we really need is a group with enough contacts to do the old, 'pay off the peacekeepers' routine.” After all, you didn't need the approval of the peacekeepers, you just needed them to ignore what you were doing. Most of the entertainment that was provided in the lower levels of the holds had brought their own enforcers to keep the peace anyway. They didnt need anyone else. What happened there, stayed there.

Meyelthra nursed her drink while she listened to what Kyrrin had to say. Grunting her acknowledgement, she added, “I’d still take indifferent to outright distaste. Having someone getting all preachy about this and that makes it harder to do things.”

She considered the ‘pay off the ‘Keeper’ route and nodded a little more. “I’m sure there are returning ‘Keepers who are interested in a little bit of side fun, or will want something in exchange for looking the other way. I highly doubt people have just become better in the course of a handful of turns. Getting things back up and running isn’t the concern so much as how easy it’ll be.” Meyelthra knew that people more resourceful than her would figure it out.

And she’d certainly be around when they did. It’d jut be nice if they didn’t have to. Though that did beg the question, if the Hall ended up too much like Fort would the Weyr still want anything to do with them?  Thinking that, Meyelthra did echo her thought aloud, “Do you think if the Weyr knew how bad Fort had gotten, they’d have bothered protecting it?”

Now that was an interesting question and not something Kyrrin had ever considered. Would the Weyr have protected Fort Hold? Probably, the dragonriders wouldn't have left the hold undefended or they'd have lost half their help. They were still searching from the hold and more craftmasters were hold based than were in the Weyr. They wouldn't have dared lose them over some unsavoury elements that they considered unnecessary.

“If they had known and there was a way to separate out who they wanted to keep, you know, craftmasters and such, then they would probably have left the rest.”

How that boded for the current situation she didn't know. There wasn't any thread left and it would be far easier for the dragons to just withdraw their services of transportation.
