Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Flits here, as well as whers.  There are Candidate events and classes and Crafter plots. A little bit of something for everyone.

Hearing about what was going on was the worst. Seeing how many of his own Wingmates that were down and out, feeling ill, was also pretty bad. Luckily, B’nyn was feeling... well, right as rain. No fever, no rumbling stomach. As such, he felt entirely obligated to do as much as he could when it came time to fish. There were crafters missing, his own wing was so low on Riders...

It was a long day.

Enough so he almost felt guilty that he hadn’t thought about whether or not Velatha might be ill until the day was pretty much over. He’d been so concerned with everything he had to do that it just...

Niskyleth landed on the ledge to their weyr and B’nyn was quick to slide off his dragon. Looking for Velatha to see if she was there. Hoping that she’d not come down with the same fever that seemed to be spreading through the weyr.

She absolutely never got sick.

Ever. At all, not even once. At least that was what she had started telling herself the third time that she had needed to make a dash to empty an increasingly empty stomach. It wasn't getting any more amusing and was why Velatha was buried under the furs silently wishing that death would find her or something? She just felt awful and rather hot but then she was under several of the furs and perfectly aware that at this point moving would result in a repeat of the earlier occasions and Velatha hadn't wanted to tempt fate in that direction again.

She had been planning on an early finish to the day, a chance to loiter in the hot springs possibly if she could coax B'nyn down there and then some cuddling but instead, she had been in here pretty much the whole day. As the only time, she hadn't well... she'd like to not think about that.

As Velatha realized she was no longer alone, her eyes opened and she let out a soft groan, not entirely on purpose. She just felt horrid and wrung out.

That hope quickly turned into panic when B’nyn realized the mound of furs on the bed was Velatha. And that moan didn’t sound very reassuring either. Frowning, he sat on the edge of the bedfurs and asked, “Have you been in here all day?” It seemed like a stupid question as soon as he said it, because that wasn’t really the important part.

Not when she seemed to sound as ill as... well, most of the people in the weyr. “Velatha, if you’re not feeling well, we should get you down to the Healer’s Hall.” B’nyn knew that was going to be a chore too. The place was swarming with so many others that were sick and feverish. Nothing seemed like a better idea though...

There was a definite part of Velatha who really didn't like that suggestion "I... I'm fine, just feeling sick" which was a state shared by the entire weyr if the scuttlebutt even she'd managed to hear was anything to go by, more than anything she didn't want to move and end up needing to deal with the reality of being ill again or even worse throwing up over B'nyn, that would be serious embarrassing and just a special kind of shameful as well.

"...just need to sleep it off" she stuck her head out of the furs and tried to smile, attempting to offer him the easy consolation of just agreeing with her and going along with all of this.

B’nyn didn’t like what she had to say any more than he liked the rising panic that she might actually have what was going around the weyr. He watched the mound of furs that was Velatha, feeling entirely hopeless. For a brief moment, he considered just... picking her up and taking her there anyways. But that would probably be more upsetting to her than it would be helpful.

Probably the Brown agreed, watching from his place on the ledge. Still wrapped in his straps. Not that the dragon was complaining while there was a potentially ill Velatha in the weyr.

B’nyn took a deep breath and tried again. “If you are sick, you need to see the healers. It could be serious.” He was trying really, really hard to sound calm and controlled and not the panicked Rider he really felt.

Velatha knew that he was right. But it was a small and logical part of her brain that was almost entirely lost underneath the whole -I don't want to move- still, she tried to get out of the bed and as she swung her legs over the side of the bed, Velatha swallowed repeatedly as she felt the bile rising up again "I think I ...I need a bit" mostly because she really didn't want B'nyn to deal with any mess like that.

"I mean they will be busy, right. Maybe I can wait" she suggested.

Not that Velatha was all set to do much in the way of arguing but she was still trying to think of others, an old and worn habit but something that apparently even being well and truly sick was able to change from being the case. Not that she felt the need to think along those lines, it was just a random and mostly scattered thought that vanished as swiftly as it had arrived.

B’nyn instantly was next to her when she moved to sit up and looked utterly unsteady doing something so simple. One hand on her lower back, the other on her knee. Just in case she needed something more from him. She looked pale and sweaty. Certainly unwell.

At her question, he nodded a little. “They were busy when I left. You aren’t the only one feeling under the weather.” A severe understatement. It was easier to count the people that weren’t sick.  “Regardless, it’s important to get you there if you are sick. This doesn’t go away on its own.” Which was certainly true.

Niskyleth thrummed, trying to be comforting. It was going to be a long walk from their weyr. Neither the dragon nor the Rider thought it was a good idea to try and get her there on dragonback. She’d likely throw up on the Brown.

It was probably a valid concern although Velatha didn't know what they were thinking however, she would have agreed "I'm sure I will be...I mean I..." she sighed a little bit, there wasn't a lot of fight in her at the moment, she was both exhausted and still felt sick when she was moving. Such as now. It was just not fair that she had gotten sick. Velatha never got sick.

Well, she was sticking to that version of the story even if that might not the whole truth "Thank you... I think if I move slowly I'll be ok" she really wanted that to be the case and she was going to try and make that the truth even if she was sure how effective it would be or how long it would manage to work "...is Niskyleth alright with his --" she swallowed slowly and carefully "His straps, I can... I know the way so I can go on to see them" yes, Velatha suspected that she definitely needed some help but she also didn't want Niskyleth to be uncomfortable just because she felt like, well this.

Not exactly moving fast even now that she was hope, one hand went to her own stomach as Velatha concentrated on breathing slowly, carefully, through her mouth.

The Brown didn’t want to risk making Velatha anymore uncomfortable than she already was, so he didn’t respond to her directly. Rather, he continued to thrum into the weyr in a low, comforting sound while he watched. He also didn’t need to tell B’nyn that he should take care of his mate and worry about the straps later.

They both knew they’d not be an immediate bother.

The concern did make B’nyn smile just a little though. “Don’t worry about him. He’ll be fine while I help you down to the Healer’s Hall.” There was no way on Pern that he was going to let her wander down there on her own in the condition she was in. Even if it meant taking one very slow step at a time. He lightly rubbed her back while she took the moment, and breath, to figure out if she’d even be able to stand. If B’nyn had some sort of bucket, he’d have offered it to her but it… just wasn’t the sort of thing he kept in their weyr. Up until now, there was just no reason for it. “We’re just going to go slow, at whatever pace you set, and Niskyleth will wait until we’re both sure you’re ok.” Only then did B’nyn stand and offer her his hand. Not rushing, of course, but patiently waiting until Velatha was ready to try and make the – what was going to be a very long trip for her – way to the healer’s hall.

She hadn't needed further evidence to support how much she loved B'nyn but here it was just the same and even Niskyleth was being tremendous with that thrum that somehow, did just a little bit make her feel somewhat better - maybe she could strap herself onto him and just lie there until the world stopped spinning so much "I want to help oil him; you know... once I can... if I can" it was a way of thanking the dragon because Velatha wanted to do that. She knew somehow that he wanted to help.

It wasn't like a deep certainty but more her personal belief that purchase it forward and said that yes, this was something that was.

"...and I..." she paused and took his arm, sure for a moment there Velatha had been able to suggest that she would be fine without the help but then her stomach had churned again and reminded her rather forcefully about why they were doing this in the first place "Tell me about your day" also known as please distract me while we do this.

B’nyn didn’t take it as a bad sign that she was talking, and thinking, about things other than how badly she felt. So when she said she wanted to help oil Niskyleth, well, he couldn’t help but smile. “Of course. As soon as you’re feeling better, I’ll teach you how to do just that.” It also warmed him a little to hear that she wanted to. Not because he needed help tending his dragon, but because the Brown was a big… well… major part of B’nyn’s life and incredibly important to him. That she wanted to take care of Niskyleth too mattered.

It was sweet. Even now.

When she reached for him, B’nyn helped to steady her. Patiently waiting. Always. If she threw up in the weyr, or along the way, he’d be sure to get it taken care of. After she was safe in the Healer’s Hall. When she asked him about his day, B’nyn didn’t ask why. He could guess. Instead, he tried to maintain the smile for her while supporting her and began in a calm, soothing fashion to talk about the drills they did, the fishing, and every detail therein. Sparing her nothing if only so she could hear his voice and have something else to focus on while he ever so slowly tried to direct her to the door. Moving only when it seemed she was ready to take the steps, but still wanting to encourage her to do so.

It felt about as close to eternity as anything she'd ever had to deal with, realistically she knew that it wasn't but the way her body seemed to want to betray her and the fact they had to stop twice because Velatha simply couldn't stop herself from emptying what little remained in her belly. All of it contributed to the sense of how much it hurt and how awkward this all was.

Each time she had apologized and afterward leaned a little more on B'nyn, the sound of his voice and thinking about his day and even the large brown they'd left behind. They all helped. It was far from perfect but that moment, this was the kind of log she was more than prepared to hold onto in this storm of sickness "That... we're here, tell me we are..." she wasn't sure if that was desperation and need or if somehow in spite of everything they had really made it through to the Hall.

"...thank you," she said, not sure that it was something needed, but more wanted right now, she really was glad that he was here and he was helping. Even if this was as far from ideal as you could get and definitely not how she wanted her day to go.

The walk took a long time. B’nyn knew it would, but even so there was a faint chill of panic. He’d suspected she was actually sick, but the fact she couldn’t move quick at all and had to stop a couple of times along the way really confirmed it. Even so, he was a Rider and wouldn’t let panic get the better of him when he was in the middle of doing something important. Like escorting the woman he loved to the Healer’s Hall.

He could tell the closer they got because the noise kicked up and the tunnels became a bit more cluttered. Thankfully, there was a breeze from outside that served to keep it from being too stifling. They both passed a couple of people leaning against the tunnel walls that B’nyn quietly asked if they were ok. Riders that waved him on and promised they’d be fine.

People B’nyn made a mental note to go back for once he was sure Velatha was delivered to the Hall herself. While the illness wasn’t fatal – not to his knowledge – he didn’t want anyone passed out in the halls in their own vomit.

Actually arriving at the Healer’s Hall was just... messy. There were so many that were still waiting around getting processed, Healer’s running around doing all manner of things. B’nyn had actually hoped that given the late mark it’d have quieted down but no such luck. He had Velatha lean against him as they eventually found what must have been the processing line. Or what he hoped was since it seemed to be the place that others were likewise flocking and stumbling to.

The Healer’s Hall was just... full. He hadn’t seen it like that since the Pass. “It’ll just be a bit longer,” he murmured softly over the din of conversation and diagnosis in the Hall. He had no way of knowing just how long it really would be, he was just trying to be comforting.

Even though this was supposed to be about helping her, the sights, sounds and above all the smells of the Hall were not doing very much to settle her stomach or make her feel better. Velatha hadn't missed that there had been others - clearly also trying to make their way done to the Hall and also going slow and carefully - and it had made a whole lot better in knowing that she wasn't needing to deal with all of this on her own. That would have just made it that much harder and more difficult than she really felt she could handle.

Although, Velatha did worry about those others still struggling.

There was just so many, so much but given her own state there wasn't much she could do about it, even though a large part of her really wanted to do something.

"I can...I should maybe on my own now. It looks like it will be a little while and there is no point in you being stuck here" Velatha had no idea how long any of this was going to be and part of her still felt guilty about taking B'nyn away from something important. She really didn't want that to be the case. It just wasn't fair, was it? Although she also didn't want him to leave but... Velatha wasn't that selfish even when she felt this bad.

She swallowed again, noticing that at least one fairly harassed looking apprentice was coming over, doubtless to ask some questions and get something happened. While it was chaotic here, it didn't mean that there wasn't some order. The weavers could look much the same and just like that it was completely the reverse - well... almost. Velatha tried to stand up to make herself look more capable of answering the questions.

B'nyn appreciated her concern for him, but he really did feel fine. Neither was he about to leave her unless he absolutely had to. So he stood with her in the rough 'incoming' line that had formed, one of his arms lightly around her to offer support should it be needed.

The Hall was just... a mess. Maybe a chaotically, controlled one, but it was certainly filled with Riders, weyrfolk, and crafters everywhere. Curtains had been strung up to create even more rooms in the main Hall than what would normally be offered because there were just so many people needing attention.

When she said she could do it on her own, he nodded a little and smiled for her. "I know, I just want to make sure you're ok." Which was really the truth. He wasn't about to leave her alone in the clustered mess of people. He could wait. So could Niskyleth. They'd both prefer it, rather.

When they were eventually approached by an apprentice, they were led to one of those hastily constructed curtained off areas. There was a cot for her to sit, a bucket on hand should she need it, and the apprentice asked her in a calm, quiet voice about her symptoms and how she was feeling. Taking her temperature and making note to see if she fit the bill with those that were having the same problem with the fever.

When it became quite apparent she was ill, the apprentice smiled at B'nyn and let them know he was going to get her something to settled her stomach.

Even though standing in line and waiting couldn't exactly be the most comfortable choice given how she had already been feeling but she could handle it because well, B'nyn was here. Even though she had suggested that he could leave, it really did make a difference and meant a whole lot perhaps not in a way that she could properly express with how poorly she was feeling right now.

Velatha followed the instructions given to her by the Healer and settled with some relief while they questioned her, relating nausea and just general not-well feeling she had been experiencing, while the bucket was appreciated she really hoped wouldn't become necessary in the near future. Right now, she would really like to be able to have this resolved and when the Healer mentioned a means of settling her stomach she almost felt like crying or possibly hugging the Healer. Instead, Velatha reached out to try and take B'nyn's hand.

"...see, I told you it would be fine. Maybe this is just bad for a little while?" she suggested, there had been a lot of questions, some more delicate than others and Velatha hadn't understood the reason for them all but she had been perfectly willing to answer them. Mostly because it made her life a whole lot easier or apparently would "How long do you think they will be?" she might be sounding a little bit needy but Velatha was caught between the impatience of finally having something to stop her being sick and waiting for that to happen.

B'nyn offered his hand to her, though he was trying really hard not to crowd around Velatha. Giving her some body space because she did feel quite warm. He smiled a little at her jab about feeling fine. At least her mood seemed in high spirits. That was certainly a plus. For that, he leaned over and kissed her warm temple. "You did tell me you'd be fine," he clarified softly, voice full of affection.

He was certainly relaxing quite a bit now that they were actually in the Hall and she was being tended to.

The healer wasn't gone long and, as promised, he returned with a mug of chilled water and a chalky bread meant to settle the stomach - the sole purpose of such a detestable thing, but it'd do the trick otherwise. The healer also had a wet cloth to apply to her forehead. "Have you noticed any manner of rash?" Even as he asked, he was looking over Velatha. "And before we have you head out, we should probably check the areas that you, yourself, can't. Like your back... It's usually easier if we pull off your shirt a moment. Should we have him step out?" The healer was trying to be polite.

B'nyn would do whatever was asked of him. If Velatha wanted some privacy now, in front of the Healer, he'd certainly give it to her. Though he wasn't opposed to helping her either, given her weakened state.

She wanted to believe it would be true because then maybe it would. Velatha returned his smile, the kiss to her warmed skin a very sweet addition and a solid reminder of why she loved B'nyn so much, he was kind, caring and right now exactly the kind of man she needed. Velatha would have nodded but she didn't want to risk moving her head too much.

The Healer returned it was fairly defunct when it came to a reply and instead she tried to eat the chalky bread and sip the water - it was all supposed to help, even if it wasn't entirely pleasant "I didn't... but I was - it was wasn't really something I was thinking about" she admitted, aware that it might make her seem foolish or at least easily distracted. Clearly, it was important. When the Healer mentioned removing her shirt, she felt a flush of embarrassment but it was just that first moment of traditional shame about thinking of her body being revealed.

This was important though. It was also a Healer and B'nyn and that had her shaking her head "He...he can stay if he wants to" she hoped that he did.

The Healer spared B’nyn a glance, giving the Rider a chance to back out of the entire situation if he wanted to. Not that the Brown Rider was about to leave unless Velatha expressly wished it. Since she didn’t, he just looked back at the Healer.

Seeing no complaints between the two of them, the Healer gave her a moment longer to sip the water and chew on the bread to settle her stomach, idly looking over her arms, neck, face, and legs – the skin exposed to him to see if there was a rash. All while trying to be minimally invasive and moving her around. Just seeing if there was anything to see. When he was done there, he smiled a little. “Just need to check under your clothes now.”

With that prompting, the Healer offered to take the remaining water while B’nyn moved to help her stand and slowly, so as not to further make her ill, undress. She didn’t have to remove her underclothes, but the Healer wanted to make sure there wasn’t a rash hiding under her shirt or the like. B’nyn didn’t think he was being unprofessional in any way – and it wouldn’t have occurred to him that a Healer might to begin with – so he was just glad he could be there to help Velatha and that she trusted him enough to let him be there for her.

Even though she wouldn't call the present situation comfortable, Velatha wanted to know what was going on and how it would be fixed and it had a far higher priority than her own modesty. Besides which, this was B'nyn and the Healer not a whole horde of strangers. That would have been entirely different "Could I have a hand with my top...?" she asked looking at B'nyn as she undid the ties on it, and then helped to push it over her head. Wincing a little bit as they brushed over her breasts but with everything else going on she barely had the time to notice and instead shifted to try and help the Healer with tending to her needs.

She wondered if it would be better or worse to be without a rash at this point? It was all so new to her and very unexpected all around. Velatha was curious but far too anxious to ask about it "...what happens if, ummm if I am sick like them?" she asked softly, that much she could ask.

B’nyn smiled, attempting to be comforting, as he stood to help her with her top. He tried not to look over her, looking for a rash as much as the Healer might. He didn’t want it to seem like he was leering at her now that she was exposing some skin, so he kept his eyes politely averted while holding on to her shirt.

The healer smiled easily and looked her over, everything about them neat and gentle. He looked her over, wanting to see if there was indeed a rash to confirm if she was just ill or if she actually had what was going around. “If you’re sick like everyone else, it just means a strict order of bedrest, lots of liquids and soup, and that… should be fine. If you don’t start to get better from there, we tend to you here.”

She was certain that there hadn't been a rash everyone that would be obvious, Velatha hadn't been looking for one, of course, she had been far more involved with being able to handle the not being sick angle of everything that was going on. Not that she was sure of her success in that venture, some of it was bound to be caught up with just not wanting to move.

"Anything there...?" she questioned, trying not to turn her head to follow him but curious about what he might end up finding out "...should be? So, just lots of rest. I-I can do that. I'm not sure about the soup - how important is that?" did she sound as cowardly as he felt in asking that question? Velatha had spent the larger part of the day in emptying her stomach. She wasn't particularly keen on the option of filling it up again to start all over. That wouldn't be fun "How long until I won't want to be sick all the time?" was that something he could tell her or not.

Velatha supposed finishing the rest of the day in doing nothing wasn't so bad but she wasn't good at being inactive. That was a detail she elected not to share with him though.
