Current Month

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. A Different Kind of Fight [18.05.2591 / 23:00] Wher Run
« on: August 02, 2018, 01:42:18 PM »
Kyrrinsk snarled, head turning to keep another wher in sight, but Kyrrin smiled at the green shoulder that stayed a pace beside her, before narrowing her eyes at the other handler when he stared for too long. Yes Kyrrinsk was due to run. What of it? Not as if his wher would be able to catch her. Scrawny little miners beast.

“Move.” Kyrrinsk added a rough growl to Kyrrin's command and she grinned as people scrambled to get out of the way. Either they just didn't want to test their luck or they recognised them. She'd posted her run notice yesterday morning and they had been given a wide berth by quite a few handlers since. Kyrrinsk tended to get a little... moody, before she ran, and Kyrrin just enjoyed the respect (or possibly fear) they were given for the day or so before. Made a nice change to be treated like a Queen or Bronze handler for just a little while.

Kyrrinsk grumbled at the slow pace down to the caverns and Kyrrin gave her a last pat as they entered the run cavern. Kyrrinsk growled, eyes glowing with more and more purple as she stared around at the male wher's gathering.

Kyrrin waved her away before she went anyway, taking the time to find a bit of smooth wall to lean against to wait while Kyrrinsk took in her potential suitors, They must have met whatever exacting standard she had as the green bounded away without any more warning than suddenly tensing muscles, bellowing a challenge once she was already a few lengths away to any males near enough to hear her. Just because she's a green doesn't mean she's an easy catch, if they wanted her, she'd make them work for it.

Spoiler for ooc:

Meyelthar knew that Aselm was buttering her up for the next wher fights that were ‘scheduled’. He wanted her to haul Meyesk into the ring again, and he was doing a grand job of encouraging her with all manner of drink. ‘On his tab’.

Whatever worked. Meyelthra was having a good time hanging out with familiar faces – though not necessarily friendly ones – and playing some games of dice that didn’t really matter. She just went down to the Mine Hall just for this sort of thing. Escape from the hum drum of the Weyr and the routine that it had created for her. It wasn’t all bad, but she needed something else now and then. Drink, some edgy fun, and she’d go back to the Weyr in the morning when Prairie Riders showed up.

Meyesk lay at her feet with Snap, her ever vigilant baby sitter, on his large, scarred shoulder. The bronze wher looked bored, but he was really just relaxing. He liked going wherever his handler went. Not because they shared a close, emotional bond but because he functioned the best under simple orders. X’hos, though they’d been around one another a lot, was still a stranger to the simple wher.

Neither did he care about the other wher that walked around the ‘bar’. Though it was really just a claustrophobic side cavern, he was coiled around Meyelthra’s chair – as out of the way as a big bronze could be – and ignored any of the other territorial wher that were walked through.

Meyelthra ignored their equally annoying handlers when she was challenged to a handful of scuffles. She was playing a damn game! Aselm, not for the first time, tried to rankle her. He was trying to get her to show off the big bronze. Apparently there were some bidders he wanted to impress, or maybe some old gang members. Meyelthra was, frankly, too drunk to remember.

Or care.

“I’m not getting in a fight tonight,” she said, if not for the hundredth time. Her tone was a bit waspish, letting her old friend know this was the last she’d be saying it.

So, he tried something different. Maybe she’d participate in a Run? Let others see how great her monster of a wher was that way?

Meyelthra was offered another drink and, as that disappeared, she thought, fuck it, why not? She stood, to the delight of Aselm, and started making her way toward the Run cavern. Meyesk provided some support as she made her way until they arrived, when she shifted her weight to lean against Aselm. At least he brought his brown wher too...

Meyesk followed orders rather well and when he was told to participate in a Run, he trotted away from Meyelthra. He was very unconcerned about her safety – that was Snap’s job – and inhaled the scent of the female Green he’d be chasing after. Thankfully, she didn’t make him wait long before she roared and dashed off into the cavern. Meyesk launched himself after her, a mass of muscle tailing a much smaller Green.

Kenna was always pleasantly surprised one someone outside of the crafter circle chose to make their run open. Holder mentality was strong at the Mine Hall, and even a lot of the crafters chose to keep within their own instead of shack up with a stranger. But Kenna like a little bit of interest to spice up her life. It didn't always turn out in her favour but it was certainly always interesting.

The open run had been posted and Kenna had been pretty bored this evening, she knew nothing of handler or wher, but Kensk had been fidgeting as the sun had set, knowing that the time which the forewarned green would run was running out. She didn't have anything better to do, so why not?

Kensk, his blinders already off, his work harness hanging back in their apprentice dorms, hurried down the tunnel to the run cavern, Kenna trailing behind. If it was a Gold, then Kenna may have had a little more time to waste, but green runs could be very very short depending on suitor and suitee.

With the tunnel opening up, she gave Kensk a mental nudge as he hesitated, waiting for her order to be released. The bronze strode towards the gathering crowd, pumping himself as much as possible, posturing as whers where wont to do.

Kenna's eyes went to what must be Kyrrin. An interesting sight to say the least, somewhat attractive to Kenna personally, given the fact that it was obvious that Kyrrin's line of work kept her well-muscled. She looked like she fit right in with the other women of her mine hall, although she wasn't a crafter. Older than herself, she must've missed the boat, a different lifestyle before Southern Winds Weyr perhaps.

Kyrrinsk roared through Kenna's assessment of her handler, and the miner girl realised the run had already begun, Kensk leaping to action a little bit behind the heels of the green, roaring his answer to her challenge.

Kyrrinsk heard the scrabble behind as her suitors started the chase. She's no gold, but she's still quicker than the bronzes and browns, this early on it was easy to stay ahead of them, twisting turns and changes of direction easily keeping them at bay. She roared again as she nearly doubled back on herself, amusement tingling through her at the thud of at least one body hitting a wall. If she'd not been intent on staying ahead of the pursuit part of her wanted to see who it had been, but there wasn't time for that.

Kyrrin grinned at the surge of amusement that faintly cut through the anticipation/lust that was filling their link and looked around the gathered handlers. Kyrrinsk did like to try and take out her potential mates in distinctly painful ways. If they weren't expecting that then they weren't for her.

She recognised Meyelthra, possibly a few of the others from the fights. But it seemed like there were a few from the mines that she didn't recognise beyond vaguely familiar faces. Eh, it didn't really matter if she knew them. As long as the handler of whoever caught Kyrrinsk was actually here she'd be happy. She'd been locked out once and made sure to point out the fact that it was a free open run several times.

Aselm was off making whatever small talk he wanted with whomever he’d wanted to sweet talk about her wher. Something about setting up another fight in the future. It was really hard for Meyelthra to focus between the amount she’d had to drink so far and the pull of Meyesk at her consciousness. A wher run might not be utterly debilitating to thought, but toss a bunch of alcohol on a brain, and she was downright handicapped.

Rather than being distracted by his bonded’s inability to think, Meyesk didn’t mind her state of inebriation at all. They had a working relationship, not a close, tight knit bond, and he didn’t need her to win a run. Or a fight. He was obedient, a good wher, but her lack of thought didn’t bother him at all.

When the smaller green double backed, he strained his thick muscles, dug into the stone, and darted after her. He’d fought, and killed, smaller wher. He knew they were faster, quicker than he was. Meyesk also knew he could run her down. Her muscles would give out before his. Long before his. When another wher, not quite his size got too close, he simply shoved them away. He didn’t want to fight, he wanted to win.

Kenna rolled her eyes at the simpleness of wher minds during a run, watching as one of the chasers thudded into a wall behind the green. Whers were always so predictable.

Kensk for his part, scrabbled a little on the hard ground of the cavern, but he seemed to be mostly biding his time. A green would never wholly outlast him, so all he had to do was hold on until she tired and find his opening. This one seemed fiesty, and she likely would go down without a fight, but Kensk wasn't opposed to that. He'd never backed down from one before.

He didn't so much as hear the green's additional roar of challenge, but feel it reverberating through the ground, and growled back an answer to her. If she wanted to be vocal, Kensk would give her that.

Kenna, knowing that this run could very well be seconds or minutes long, sat herself on the ground, resting her arms haphazardly on her legs, back against the wall, and watching the run through her upraised knees. She'd had a long day, and whilst she usually would enjoy the opportunity that a run presented to socialise with all walks of life, today, she simply couldn't be arsed.

Ophy hadn’t really intended to participate in the Run, if for no other reason than he didn’t think he’d be off duty in time. Shift rotations being what they were, it had been his turn to work nearly into the first mark of the next day, his squad switching off with another just before. Most of them had been happy enough to go home, take off their Peacekeeper leathers, and collapse into bed; and as much as he’d wanted to do the same, Ophysk wasn’t tired. He’d caught the scent of a Green about to Run earlier in the day, and the knowledge that it must be starting soon had him uncharacteristically on edge.

“Fine, fine.” It would be easier to sleep once the Bronze was settled as well—and there was the chance for some fun beforehand too. He wouldn’t say no to that. So Ophyonis had sent Onisk back to their quarters with a heavy-handed command. The Blue was too young yet to participate in Runs, and having him there would just be a distraction.

They’d arrived not a moment too soon, as the Green in question roared her challenge to the gathered males and took off into the cavern. Ophysk was off after her just as quick, even if he did start a few paces behind—but with his superior size and momentum, he was confident he would catch up to her when it mattered. She might be faster for now, but she would tire long before he did.

He just had to outlast the other Bronzes, and get in position for the opportunity to claim her.

His Handler leaned up against the wall by the entrance, arms crossed over his chest as he watched and waited. He wasn’t completely sure which of those gathered was the Green’s Handler, since the name on the posting hadn’t been particularly familiar. But that hardly mattered. Ophy was participating in this for his wher, and the Bronze would surely have burned off the rest of his energy regardless of how the Run ended.

It was only through sheer luck that Ophysk avoided being the wher that skidded into the wall as Kyrrinsk changed direction. His start a meter or so behind gave him just enough time to adjust the trajectory of his bulk, though he did strike hard against the stone with his claws. Growling a challenge to the other males still keeping close, he tensed his thick muscles and surged forward, determined to close the distance between himself and his target.

Kyrrin pushed herself away from the wall, staring around at the handlers that were still in the chase. She could feel Kyrrinsk starting to falter, exhaustion starting to meld with the lust she was projecting to her handler. All it would take now is one mistake and she'd be caught. This wasn't the time for Kyrrin to be hiding against a back wall, she wanted to be seen.

It wasn't even a minute later when Kyrrinsk skidded on a turn, a rock tumbling from under one paw and her wing just clipping a wall as she flung it out to try and balance and she tumbled into a roll with a snarl of annoyance.

She lashed out at the first wher to close in on her, stumbling back to her feet and starting to bound away. She didn't get far and she growled when she failed to dislodge another one of her chasers. It turned to a croon after another shake of her body and she wrapped her tail round his, accepting she was well and truly caught by the larger beast.

Randomiser says Kensk is the lucky Wher.

Kenna, noticing Kyrrin's change of posture, turned her eyes more intently to the chase. Watching each turn, the sweat that was starting to build on every wher's thick hide and the bunching of their muscles are they strove after the prancing green. It was a nice sight to behold to be sure, a primal display of strength if there ever was one.

When Kyrrinsk stumbled, Kensk swerved out of the way to curve around her, blocking off her passage. He knew she'd be quicker than any of them, even despite the fumble, and so he had to be smarter. Snarling excitedly as she threw off the other chaser who almost stole the green away from him, Kensk bowled her over, slamming against her side to put her off balance and stop her progress.

It turned into a growl of pleasure when she succeeded the run to him and he felt her wrap her tail with his.

Kenna for her part approached Kyrrin, holding a hand out to her and starting to lead the other wherhandler out from the caverns and through the tunnel. Throwing a cheeky smile over her shoulder as she started into a jog, attempting to pull the larger woman behind her to a more secluded location to end their night.
