Current Month

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Hello and Welcome!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Unspoken [ 24.03.2591 // 8:45pm ] Jo and J'dan
« on: August 16, 2018, 11:19:01 PM »
Vironethian wasn't exactly looking forward to dinner tonight, after the results of yesterdays findings at the Fisher storage shed, he thought the Weyr would have quickly started on their rationing. It wasn't that he particularly liked the taste of fish all that much either, he just liked being able to eat protein. The smith thought it was quite likely they'd start to see their meals supplemented with less favourable items.

But it wasn't a big part of why Vironethian was late to dinner tonight. Vironethian was late most nights, because he usually gave himself deadlines that were a little earlier than any of the other smiths would have. So what if he had to spend a little extra time at the forge so that he could make it on time? It meant he was one of the most desirable of their few glass-smiths left. And it wasn't as if he really had anyone waiting for him. His close friends knew how much work mattered to him, and he didn't have any woman biding their time for him to finish either.

The Weyr Hall had emptied of the majority of the crowd by the time Vironethian arrived, but he was well aware that riders frequently used the area as a social spot after dinner time. It was one of their few spare hours of the day, and all of the Weyr had this time of night off, and so it still wasn't quiet. Usually, he acknowledged this fact, and continued on with his day, eating his meal alone, or bringing it back to the crafter caverns to enjoy with his small group of friends. But today, Vironethian noticed a familiar face... Well not a familiar face, actually familiar hair, then familiar body, then the familiar face.

Before Vironethian realised what he was doing, and in the future, he'd blame his actions upon half of his brain being back at the forge, the Smith's feet were taking him in Jossekayne's direction. After all, she was accompanied by a male rider, and Vironethian was merely... checking up on an acquaintance.

The month after Lyrisiveth’s injury had been a tense one for Jo. Not knowing, for the initial recovery, whether her dragon would end up losing one of her legs had worn at her energy and her patience, making her both waspish and exhausted. Particularly so since she’d been determined not to let her Green worry about it too. As far as Lyrisiveth knew, her rider had just been a regular level of worried, along with healing from her own dislocated shoulder and broken ribs.

Only after the Healers had told her that Lyrisiveth’s leg would be fine did she break down and admit it to her dragon at all. And that had been quite a fight. The Green had been furious with Jo for shouldering that concern herself. But neither of them could ever stay mad at each other long. Eventually, Lyrisiveth had conceded that she did understand why, even if she didn’t like it.

But surviving that together had, if anything, only bolstered their bond and their determination to do better. They’d both actually been listening to the Healers, for one, and doing the physical therapy as it was prescribed without pushing themselves too far. Lyrisiveth’s leg was still weak, but it was getting stronger. The limb would be scarred for the rest of her life, a constant reminder of what they’d almost lost, but her skin was healthy and free from infection. Another lucky break considering how touch and go it had been at the beginning.

Jossekayne hadn’t been sure if her dragon would be able to rise by the time her next Flight came up. But the Green had been proddy as usual when the time finally approached, and Jo felt confident enough in Lyrisiveth’s judgment to trust that she knew what she was doing. They’d been working on landings. Since she wouldn’t be doing that until after the Flight Lust was already burned off, there should be no issue.

Her wings were fine, after all.

So no matter the blow that the loss of the Fishers’ stores had been, Jo was in a remarkably good mood that evening. Lyrisiveth’s flirtatiousness was bleeding over into her, and she didn’t bother to try to prevent it. It was nice to feel happy, almost light for the first time in a long time. And though she was no simpering cocktease, she was unconflicted about enjoying the increased attention from other riders whose dragons had noticed Lyrisiveth’s impending Flight.

Lingering in the Weyr Hall after dinner, she’d been in a mood to be social, regardless of which Wings she mingled with. One in particular had caught her eye—an attractive young Bronzer, also with a mind for flirtation, and whose dragon had caught Lyrisiveth before. Her Green might not choose her winner, but there was nothing wrong with encouraging them.

Jo wasn’t quite in his lap, leaving heavily against J’dan while they talked and flirted and just shot the breeze. If the evening wound up with them going back to one or the other’s weyr, even better, but Jossekayne was in no rush.

She’d just been teasing him, laughing at a joke he’d made and brushing her fingers along his jaw, when movement at the corner of her eye caught her attention, announcing that someone was approaching. As Jo turned to see who it was, her eyebrows went up in surprise. Only her good mood prevented her from actually scowling.

Lyrisiveth herself sounded amused as she commented, Here comes trouble.

J’dan usually lingered after dinner. He liked being social, liked being around his wingmates. Whether or not anything became of it, that didn’t bother him so much. Even if he didn’t often spend his time alone. He was a young, reasonably attractive bronzer in Jungle Wing, where there was not a shortage of green riders who he could woo back to his bedfurs.

It did surprise him, a little, when someone from another wing ended up at his table, but he didn’t want to chase her off either. Especially when Brynioth casually informed him that her green, Lyrisiveth, was proddy. It was a good thing his bronze could remember people and dragons. Though Jo was indeed familiar – most riders were – they didn’t frequently spend time with one another. That didn’t mean he was against it though.

A good time was a good time.

He was sitting on the table itself, his feet on the bench, and his arms braced on his knees. The green rider was close, casually touching him between their conversation about nothing and everything. He did shift to put a hand on her hip and guide her just a little closer, but the move was almost a subconscious reflex when she touched his jaw. Her smile was infectious, and he mirrored it with one of his own, while saying, “Keep this up and I’ll be pulling you into a dance, music or no.” J’dan didn’t need a harper or their song to dance. He just liked doing it.

When she turned her attention elsewhere, he thought it was just to glance at a passerby so he didn’t pay it any mind.

Vironethian's face could only be described as stony, not angry, but certainly hard and tightly wound. He didn't know why watching Jossekayne fawn all over this man got him so frustrated. It was likely the simple indecency of it all. If they wanted to get personal, they should keep it private, the whole Weyr didn't need to see this.

His mother would have scolded him and asked him where he'd gotten such prudish sensibilities from, and try to start up some sort of conversation about her wayward youth and everything she got up to. Vironethian usually walked away at that point.

Virosk slunk beside him, the blue too wary of the unknown rider. The wher placed himself somewhere in between Vironethian, Jossekayne and the other rider. Who he was protecting from who, it seemed he wasn't quite sure of yet.

"Jossekayne." He said as way of greeting, his mouth curving into a strained sort of smile that felt more like a grimace for its awkwardness. But as Vironethian turned to the man she was virtually sitting upon his face was stony again. "Vironethian." He said, holding out a hold, "And you are?"

“What makes you think that isn’t exactly my intention?” Truthfully, it hadn’t been—it wouldn’t have occurred to Jo to dance without music, but she was hardly opposed to the idea. An excuse to keep touching J’dan was one she’d gladly take in her present mood. Even though they were already doing such; she suspected that after a dance, pulling him off to one of their weyrs would be even easier.

Vironethian’s approach, though, was not what she’d expected. Initially, Jossekayne had thought perhaps he was just passing by… despite the fact that he’d more or less made straight for them. How was she supposed to understand his motivations? His behavior and attitude had ever been a mystery to her, even after their moment of commiseration in the Healer Hall. It certainly didn’t help that his smile was practically a grimace,  but she couldn’t imagine what he wanted.

“Hey…” Wary though she was, she simply watched as he introduced himself and then asked for J’dan’s name. So formal… and why? Prior, he’d shown no indication of really wanting to get to know her better, and this was a strange way for him to make friends if that’s what he was about. Especially given that he hadn’t really seemed the sort to cozy up to riders much. But she was curious enough not to interfere, if for no other reason than to see where this was going.

J’dan’s smile widened just a little, threatening to become a playful smirk. A dance was a great excuse to be closer to Jo and, if she wanted to go elsewhere after, it wasn’t like he had made plans for this evening. Rather, it seemed like a plan was itching to crawl onto his lap.

Straight up until some grim looking man waltzed up to them. It seemed he knew Jossekayne too, since he greeted her by name. J’dan leaned back on one of his hands while he looked over the newcomer, curious who he was and why he was there, but there was a bit of disinterest in his look. J’dan was far more interested in taking a Green Rider in a dance, then elsewhere, than he was meeting anyone new this evening.

He supposed he didn’t have to be rude though. Not to one of her friends, the bronze added. That’d hardly score either of them any points should they participate in the upcoming flight. So, with a faint sigh, he eventually took the hand briefly and offered his own name, “J’dan.” Followed by a lazily drawled, “Did you need something? ‘Cause we were just talking...” And that didn’t involve you. It was heavily implied, but he didn’t say it out loud. That’d have been a bit too much, but he didn’t really need to say it.

Instead, he sat back up and returned his hand to Jo’s hip. Not a possessive gesture, but one to further emphasize his point. This other man wasn’t part of what J’dan was doing here. So unless it was really important, he could waltz away just as casually as he’d wandered up.

It really shouldn't bother him as much as it did. And he knew he should walk away right now, before he said something to anger either of the riders sitting in front of him, before one of them stood up and punched him for interrupting what would likely have turned into a pleasant night for the both of them. Vironethian shouldn't care whether Jossekayne left this hall with J'dan tonight. It would be smart if he just left Jossekayne alone tonight, watched her go with someone else, so the thought could taint his opinion of her and he could be done with... watching her.

Vironethian apparently, wasn't very smart.

"Just talking? Great." He turned away from J'dan then and back to Jossekayne. "I was wondering if I could join you while I eat my dinner, got held up working tonight."

Perhaps he should have smiled? It would make the words coming out of his mouth seem less strange. Vironethian had no business here, he barely knew Jossekayne, the woman didn't even like him. But his possessiveness over her would reach a point of creepy if he didn't actually try to figure out why. Perhaps when she was gearing up to spend the night with someone else wasn't what she would think as being the best time to get to know him. But other than storming off and saying something he would inevitably regret, Vironethian didn't really see like he had any other choice.

Jo didn’t need anyone to handle her business for her, but she was curious enough to hear Vironethian out, and playful enough to see how J’dan responded in the first place. Normally she wasn’t so testing, but it was quite obvious to her that Lyrisiveth’s proddiness was bleeding over into her. Oh well. She didn’t mean it maliciously.

The Bronze Rider’s dismissal was pretty clear, but the Smith barreled on past it nevertheless. Jossekayne regarded him with a half-frown of confusion, and even tilted her head some as she watched him.

He wanted to eat there? Before she even meant to, she glanced around at the Weyr Hall as though to verify that it wasn’t crowded. No, there were plenty of places where he could have sat instead, which meant he was about something else. What that might be, she had no idea. His expression was as grumpy as usual, and just as inscrutable otherwise.

Drawn in more so by her rider’s confusion, Lyrisiveth drew in closer to their bond to observe as her rider did. Maybe he’s tryin' to be friendly?

//If he is, he’s going about it strangely. This isn’t really the time.//

“I didn’t think you consorted with riders?” Half amused, her voice lifted up at the end in a question more than a statement. Jo wasn’t intending to be directly rude, but she wanted to know what he was up to. Anyone else, and she might have attributed it to loneliness after a long day. But Vironethian had never seemed the sort to willingly spend time around others if he didn’t have to.

J’dan wasn’t sure what was going on. At all. The fact that this guy happened to know Jossekayne didn’t really excuse whatever the fuck it was he was doing. J’dan went from mildly confused to straight up annoyed. It didn’t matter so much that he’d not dismissed the man outright, but now he was being the runnershit, and J’dan didn’t expressly like that.

The bronzer watched him a moment as the man turned away from him and asked Jo if he could join her for dinner.

Her response was nice. J’dan could’ve played nice too, but he didn’t. It was one thing to ignore J’dan’s unspoken go away. Maybe the man was dense as firestone. “I don’t think we’ll be lingering here much longer, anyways. We’ve already eaten and...” At this, J’dan looked at Jo, “If you’d like to take this conversation elsewhere, it’s already getting late.” To accent his point, he did stand to put himself near Jo. He was tired of their additional company.

Sometimes people don’t know when they’re not wanted, he rumbled into his rider’s mind.

J’dan couldn’t agree more.
