Current Month

9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

See previous events here!

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome!

http://southernwindsweyr.net/Images/news icon copy.png We are a mature, 9th Interval AU Pern. We've destroyed almost the entire planet in a catastrophic event. While we feature 2 new mutations, we stick pretty close to canon. We've Ranks, roles, and positions for just about anyone who wants to get involved, with a relaxed community. Play and post at your own pace. Swing by and say hello!

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Southern Winds Weyr

Life is full of surprises [ 31.2.2591 / 2PM ] Sohrelle
« on: September 15, 2018, 12:21:00 AM »
Doing lunch with a handful of children just took time. While she used to have Daveral’s help, he was now off in harper lessons once his lunch was over. Growing up so fast, he was becoming quite the young man. Eventually Everalsie was going to have to hunt down a wife for him. That would be expected of her, as a holder wife. It was just... new territory. Something she’d never done, obviously, but something that hadn’t been done for her either.

With Daveral off doing his own thing, that left Everalsie with three on her own. She liked to think they were all well behaved and, with Evarensl being ten, it was really only two little ones. If only they’d all stay as small as Ealsyvie. The babe was sleeping in her arms while Everalsie sat at the table generally reserved for mothers and their children. There wasn’t exactly a pecking order, but an unspoken one existed. Wives of Peacekeepers tended to stick together, which put Everalsie happily amongst ladies that she’d known for a plethora of turns now. Not that she liked all of them, but that didn’t matter either. She liked others less.

She’d known some of the women for a decade. A couple since her first had been born. Long past the time she’d had to come up with a suitable past and story. When she’d acted like it was too painful to talk about, most just assumed her family lost in some tragic thread accident. Better than the truth. Better than where she’d really come from and the circumstances of where Daresik had found her. Rather, Everalsie was actually one of the older women in the Peacekeeper wife group, and she was the one to judge the newcomers.

This was so much better. Having a family, proper friends who weren’t trying to take things from her. Rather, when a lady was no longer attached to her husband, she just didn’t sit with them anymore. She didn’t have a place at the table then. It kept their families, and children, in the right direction. Away from things that Everalsie would rather not expose her sons, and daughter, to. Even the idea that her sweet babe might see the inside of a brothel was enough to set her off.

One of the women that Everalsie actually liked was Sohrelle. She was young, sweet, innocent, and Everalsie imagined she’d be exactly what her own daughter would grow up to be. At least, if Everalsie had anything to say about it. In that, she felt a little protective of the younger woman. She had two young ones on her own and watching her navigate them was refreshing. Having someone to help – as they might help eachother – was just nice. Four hands were always better than two.

Since Dalerik was insisting he eat on his own, the lunch was dragging on. He’d made a mess on the table, but he was picking at the vegetables dutifully. With a sense of serious purpose only a child could muster over such a task. Everalsie didn’t want to bother him in the event he’d stop eating the vegetables. It wasn’t like she was going to rush off anyways. Lunch would take as long as it took. Instead, she let out a faintly dramatic sigh and decided to broach the subject with Sohrelle. The girl had been traditionally married, after all. So if Everalsie probed a little, she might learn a thing or two. “I can’t believe how quickly they grow, hm? Davarel is already past the age he might go into a Craft, and all he talks about is being a Peacekeeper. I’d thought about steering him into something safer but...” she trailed off, glancing at the younger woman.

"I know right? It feels like just the other day when Sohred was a newborn." It wasn't exactly the truth, but she'd heard some of the other women say similar things, and just stowed it away as something she was likely supposed to feel. As much as she enjoyed her children and the simplicity of her everyday life, she didn't think time had gone quickly. It had slogged, long nights of crying and staying up to soothe the children herself. Nothing more than her duty of course.

She patted Sohred on the back, where he snuggled against her chest, halfway between dozing and a full sleep. He was just a little too big for Sohrelle to carry him around everywhere when he just decided to fall asleep wherever he wanted, but none the less, he was in her arms again. Apparently eating had worn him out.

Rossell on the other hand never seemed to stop, the almost four turn old having made a group of friends that he seemed to never want to leave. They were all other Peacekeeper children of course, nothing else would do. He, having seen Dalerik insist he eat by himself earlier, had wanted to emulate the older boy, so now Sohrelle was using the arm not holding Sohred to make sure all the food got into his mouth, and not all over the floor and himself. Subtly of course, he'd be sure to cause a stink if he felt like she was embarrassing him.

And there was Everalsie. The epitome, Sohrelle believed, of the Holder wife she wanted to be. Although Elle didn't think she'd ever be as... strong as Everalsie was. But she more than happy to follow her lead forever if need be. Sohrelle actually liked the other woman, which was a contrast to the other wives who she was careful to make sure people thought she liked.

Her wide eyes lit up and Everalsie's question, and she smiled across the table at her. "If your plans are for him to be a Peacekeeper, it'll certainly give him the pick of wives." She said cheerfully. It didn't occur to her that it mightn't have been something Everalsie had been thinking of and she missed whatever connotation Everalsie may have been hinting at. In Sohrelle's experience, once you reached a certain age it was simply a given that your parents were looking for a match. "Besides, Daresik and Rossed will keep him right."

Everalsie shifted her daughter to the other arm when the current was getting tired. It was a move done naturally. Something she’d just gotten used to after four children. Sohrelle’s response to Daveral’s age was pretty much what she’d expected. Looking back, time did seem to have crept up on her and she did miss when things were just... her and her small kids. She knew what to do then, and she treasured that knowledge. Navigating new situations required stepping out of her established reputation, and she could hardly look the fool now.

When she was younger, it was easier to excuse.

She suspected the poor girl wasn’t getting as much sleep as she’d like. With two young ones, such a thing was rare. Everalsie couldn’t remember the last time she had. Between her children and her husband, she’d pretty much existed on naps. It was something she’d just learned to do. Eventually, Sohrelle would too. It’d be better for her.

When the other woman practically lit up at the news of her eldest son’s path in life, that actually warmed Everalsie. She might be nervous about her son wanting to do what Daresik did, but Sohrelle did have a point. Dareski and Rossed would, ideally, keep an eye on him. At the very least Dareski would, because that was his son and Everalsie would make damned sure he did.

Just. Getting him into a craft would be so much safer. Less chance of him falling into the wrong crowd. That was what she was really afraid of. That her children would somehow be tainted from her own upbringing and turn to such a life no matter how hard she’d tried to keep it from them. Even so, she smiled a little at Sohrelle and made a show of looking around at some of the women still loitering at the Peacekeeper’s wives table. “I suppose that is true. Finding him a proper girl is important. I’m rather surprised no one has spoken to me...” That was a reasonable thing to expect, right? Everalsie and her family were well off enough. There was no reason such an offer shouldn’t have been tossed her way, even cursory.

Sohrelle mused prettily, pouting her lips slightly considering Everalsie's words. It was true she would have suspected someone to have approached the couple by now, but with the Mine Hall as it was, and the Weyr sticking their nose in everyone's business, their society was a little different now.

It made her feel warm inside - happy of the heart, she had heard a Hold worker say once - to be having a conversation like this with Everalsie. Almost as if her opinion might matter even the smallest amount.

"Not necessarily." She tried to say reassuringly. "Maybe people just don't understand that things are going to be continuing exactly as they should be." Sohrelle nodded as if having to convince herself of that fact as well. Everyone else could let their children gallivant across to the Weyr to stand if they wished, but Sohrelle knew that for the most part, a good Holder wife would not encourage such sympathies. Sometimes she did have to remind herself of that fact.

"Perhaps they just need to know that the door is open. They wouldn't want to offend you with an offer at an unsuitable time." That seemed... reasonable. In all honesty, Sohrelle considered briefly that Daresik may suffer the same shortness of memory that she did at times. Perhaps someone had talked to him already and he'd just... forgotten to pass the message on. Faranth knew Sohrelle had forgotten more than enough things for Rossed to get mad at her.
