Guest Info Plot & Events

Current Month
8.2591 A.R.
9th Interval

Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

Pernese Online A Gift of Dragons Shadowplay Topsites Top RP Sites

Hello and Welcome!

http://southernwindsweyr.net/Images/news icon copy.png We are a mature, 9th Interval AU Pern. We've destroyed almost the entire planet in a catastrophic event. While we feature 2 new mutations, we stick pretty close to canon. We've Ranks, roles, and positions for just about anyone who wants to get involved, with a relaxed community. Play and post at your own pace. Swing by and say hello!

Southern Winds uses a subaccount system to distinguish between Players and their Characters. So REGISTER with your Player Account Name and the admin will assign you your Character Subaccount once your character is approved!

Southern Winds is a Mature Roleplay. This means we allow for sexual, violent content that would be found in a struggling, 9th Interval Pern. Sex is common place in the Weyr and terrible deaths are no stranger here. As such, our players should be 18+. These themes are to be handled maturely at all times.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Thrane is tall for a Pernesian, reaching a height of 6’2”. He may or may not know that the muscle and height are appealing, so it’s not uncommon for him to be a bit of a flirt and show what his mama gave him. Thrane chooses to dress simply for everyday affairs, despite his knack for weaving and use of color. He chooses light, bland colored tunics that are well fitted v-necks and darker breeches that show off all the muscle he has acquired during his extended candidacy. On special occasions, however, he does bring out the few pieces of clothing he has made that are more interesting. He has a pair of vests with intricate designs in turquoise and green, reminiscent of the waves of dragons fighting thread that he remembered from his childhood.
Thrane does have a few Threadscore scars over the back of his neck and shoulders, the aftermath of his near death experience escaping High reaches as a child. They don’t hinder him anymore, but he has never really been inclined to talk about them, even if asked.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Thrane has tried his damnedest to forget his past… He lives for the here and now since there is really nothing that can change the past. He has been known to walk out of the room if talk of the times in the 9th Pass come up in conversation. He really wants to do his best to help the survivors rebuild in their new home, and stewing over the past gets in the way.

Response to dragon color mutations: Thrane really is indifferent to the new mutations in the ranks of dragons. If anything, he sees them as natural responses to their new environment. The jungle is full of threats, so the dragons came about in response to combat that threat. He sees them as necessary to rebuilding the dragon population as well as weyrlife in general. Dragons are dragons, no matter the color of their hide.

Who are you...

-   Ladies: He has always been a ladies man (much like his dad), although his affections halt just short of the bedroom unless he really feels that...something, ya know? His prolonged candidacy has given him a lot of flexibility, so he is sure in his sexuality. Girls rule!
-   Weaving: He loves the methodical whir and thud of the loom that helps him to focus and relax. He usually make pretty plain fabrics, but on occasion he has a stroke of brilliance and will make something extraordinary.
-   Flits: He loves the little critters, not just as companions, but as tools to help the Weyr function. He would like to have a flit one day to run messages and be his buddy on the nights he is feeling blue.
-   Planning: Another odd habit he picked up during his long candidacy. He loves planing… The dull, mindless shuffling of people and tasks amuses him and he feels it is one way he can help to support the Weyr. That and it lets him get the lowdown on what is happening at the weyr.
-   Exploring: Thrane loves to explore (now that he actually can since the catastrophe has ended) and often finds himself staring into the jungle and wondering what lays beneath the trees. He has not been quite brave enough (or stupid enough depending on your point of view) to head into the trees alone, but he hopes one day he can adventure and find some miracle cure or something equally epic to help out the Weyr.

- Talk of the Past: Thrane tries his hardest to forget all the tragedy that screwed up a good part of his life. He avoids conversations that involve the time before like Thread and tries to focus on what he can do here and now to help the Weyr.
- Idle Time: All his life he has always been on the move, always working and always doing something to try and help his fellow man. Because of this, even though life has settled down a little, Thrane constant feels the need to be doing something. If he is stuck waiting for something, he is more likely to start nagging people or get himself into trouble trying to help.
- People Who Talk Back: He hates these kinds of people. There is no “I” in “team” and everyone should do their part to help the group. Anyone who talks back or resists their duties gets in the way of progress and is something that Thrane has a very short fuse for.
- Laziness: Another trait he finds appalling. There is no room for loafers when there is work to be done. If he suspects you of being lazy, he won’t hesitate to call you out on it, usually in his stubborn and very public way.

* LOYAL : Once you have won his trust, Thrane will be at your side through thick and thin. He will stand with you against opposition (unless there is some law he would be breaking) and is not afraid to punch a bitch if needed.

* ORGANIZED : Thanks to his very Weyr-minded mentality, Thrane is incredibly organized. He is rarely late and will never forget an appointment. He has no problem organizing people and delegating tasks, usually leaving the toughest or most unsavory ones for himself, since he would rather the group work effectively then have someone be upset about getting the worst chore. He would love to work as a weyrlingmaster, or a candidate master, or something involving organizing people in the future.

* TEAMWORKER : Bridging off his need to be organized, Thrane is an excellent team player. He is more than happy to work for the good of the Weyr and will not hesitate to help if he is not otherwise engaged. He does have a bit of an issue with bossy leaders, so he prefers to fill that role himself whenever possible.

* EVENKEELED : It takes a lot to shake up Thrane. He is not one to get overemotional and will wait to hear both sides of a problem before passing judgement. He is a good listener because of this and is always willing to offer his advice if he feels he can give it.

* BRAVE : Thrane is brave almost to a fault. He will throw himself into any task he feels is for the good of the Weyr, regardless of the dangers it might entail. He is willing to put his life on the line to protect his community and does not shy from that responsibility.

* DETACHED:  Thrane can sometimes become detached from conversations, especially if something is upsetting him. Other times, he will be so caught up his work that he will hold himself away from others for the sake of the task at hand. Most the time, he does not do it to be mean, he does it as a means of self-preservation.

* WORKAHOLIC : Thrane is a workaholic, often to the extreme. He will work 48 hours straight without sleeping if he gets super involved in something. He won’t stop till the task is done and has put himself in the healers chambers more than once for working himself sick.

* COMMANDING : If Thrane assigns you a task, he expects you to do it. End of story. You cannot go running around messing up his carefully laid plans, or watch out. You might have an angry man on your hands.

* FLIRT: When Thrane starts feeling lonely, he turns into an outrageous flirt. He will use his good looks and smooth moves to get the attention of the ladies… but then is quick to dump them as soon as he feels better or if they get too clingy and there is no spark. He is not really the commitment type (at least, not yet), so the rider lifestyle will suit him well.

* STUBBORN: Thrane can be as stubborn as they come, both for good and for bad. Once he has made up his mind about something, it will be like moving a mountain to get him to change his mind. If you want to try and get him to relent, be ready with a lot of proof to explain yourself… and if you fail be ready for a lecture about wasting his time.

Describe Yourself:

* TRADITIONAL: ----- The Weyrs survived for so long the way they did for a reason. The hierarchy within the Weyrs exists for a purpose and that hierarchy should be upheld even with the new additions. Thrane will fight with all he is to maintain and uphold tradtion here in the new Weyr.

* STEADFAST: ----- The traditions of Pern are what made the Weyrs strong. Thrane is secure in his views in the world, and isn't one to flip-flop on decisions or pale in the face of hardship. He will always support and pursue the course of action that he thinks will yield the best result for the good of the Weyr.

* KIND: ----- Thrane will bend over backwards for the good of others. His life of hardship was only made possible by the sacrifice of those before him, and he does his best to pay it forward. He strives to help those in need where he is able, even at the cost of his own comfort.

* DRIVEN: ----- Thrane's ambition takes a bit of a different flavor. He craves to find his place among the riders and aid in rebuilding all that was lost in the 9th Pass. He’d like to fly a Gold and so seeks to learn from those that have before him. Soon, he hopes to be a ranked rider but he understands the he first needs to make it out of weyrlinghood.

* LADIESMAN: ----- Thrane is happiest in public with a lady on his arm. He is not one who takes home a different lady home every night, but he does love to speak with and help the lovely ladies of the Weyr. He hopes that one day he might have kids of his own if the dragonrider thing does not work out, and he can’t do that without the ladies.

The Magic Touch: Thrane needs his hands to be busy at all times… Even if that means tapping fingers, toying with a scrap of hide or use of hand gestures. They just need to be moving.

Mother: Thallina, Greenrider, b.2539, d.2580, I.2558 to Green Ereneith
Father: O’rane, Brownrider, b.2540, d.2580, I.2557 to Brown Rototh

Siblings: None that he is aware of. Times were troubled and many children died due to the evacuations and lack of food.

Children: None that he is aware of. He has had quite a few flings with drudges and other weyrfolk and one ever came forward to say he sired anything of theirs.

Tell us a story...

* 2564, 0 Born on 25.4.2564 to a greenrider. He was promptly dumped into the Creche, his mother and father too busy trying to keep the flagging High Reaches Weyr from falling to the endless Threadfall.

* 2571, 5 He and a few of the other surviving crèche children were evacuated from High Reaches Weyr to Fort Weyr. He was unlucky in his escape as he sustained some threadscoring from his evacuation, leaving him struggling for his life once he reached Fort Weyr. He was able to recover from his injuries, but it left him with scars to remember the terrifying event.

* 2575, 9 Life at Fort Weyr was not easy as life became almost impossible at the Fort. Thrane was forced to grow up early, helping with drudges chores and aiding the riders where he could. He spent some time working with his father who used him to carry messages to his mother, since they were on different wings and rarely saw each other anymore.

* 2580, 14 Thrane loses both his parents one fateful night. His mother and father went for one last supply run to one of the Holds and never returned. Thrane had become quite attached to both his parents over the last few years, so losing them threw him into a dark depression that only near constant work dragged him out of.

* 2581, 15 Just after the turn began, he was taken in by the Weaver hall and was put to work as an apprentice. He was not particularly gifted in terms of artistry, but he had a knack for weaving that yielded consistent and durable bolts of fabric. The methodical act of weaving kept him busy and helped him to pull himself out of the depression he had landed himself in. In the following years, he was promoted to Sr. Apprentice for his consistent work.

*2583,17 Thrane was Searched out of the Weaverhall by a Searchrider. Wanting to follow in the steps of his parents, he was more then happy to move from the Weaver’s Halls to the candidate barracks, where he threw himself into his studies. He wanted to help the Weyr in anyway he could, so making himself the perfect partner for a dragon was just the way to do that.

*2585,19 Thrane had begun to become disheartened as he stood clutch after clutch without Impression. He began to doubt himself and his suitability to be a dragonrider. He began to throw himself deeper and deeper into candidate training to make sure he was the most qualified candidate that had ever stood, even though he knew deep down it was his fear of failure that drove him. He also began to be a bit loser with his night habits, becoming a lot more sexually active to stave off the depression of being constantly left behind on the Sands.

*2587,21 Just as he was beginning to think about rejoining the Weavers Hall when the order was given to abandon Fort Weyr. He remembers the evacuation and the haunting sadness of watching the Weyr fall away before they popped between still haunts his nightmares. He told himself that he would continue being a candidate in this new weyr as a last ditch effort to help rebuild until he was 24 turns, then he would resign himself to being just a weaver.

*2591,23 Thrane stands at his last Hatching, figuring that it would end just like all the others. He expected to be left alone… He expected to leave the Sands for the last time in his white robes before taking up his knots again as a Weaver. Much to his astonishment, the Hatching yielded a partner, a dragon to fill the void that the catastrophe had left inside him and finally allow the man who so loved his Weyr to become the help he had always wanted to be.

The thrumming woke Thrane from a sound sleep the day of the hatching. He had been working on some trivial task assigned to him before his lack of proper sleep decided that the wax tablet and his arm were the perfect pillow. Shard it, man… You need to clean up before dawning your robes… For the last time… He will sigh very sadly at the thought, peeling the now ruined hide from his face before heading to the communal bathroom to wash the wax from his face. He still had a few darker patches of skin when he finished, probably clogged pores because of his chosen pillow, but at least he did not looks he slept on a pile of wax.

He then hurried back to his barracks room, getting his newest set of robes from his trunk. He had had many sets of robes… Mostly because he had outgrown the first two sets in his youth. So many failed Standings, so many memories of disperse at being left behind by all the little dragons. This would be his last Stand… His heart could only take one more failure before he had to turn away from his dream. He idly questioned the thoughts of the blue that searched him as he walked with the herd of candidates to the waiting Sands, wondering if the beast had been wrong in choosing him as a candidate.

As soon as the heat of the Sands made it through the soles of his boots, he knew the time for doubt was beyond him. He would stand, watch and listen. He would wait until the last dragonet had bonded before he left this life for good. Thrane picked his chin p as the first eggs began to break, the tiny part of him that still held hope for Impression flared with excitement. This would be his last Stand alright… For better or for worse.

General Appearance...

Theulth hatched dark, covered in the fluids of his egg, and that seemed to make his glisten all the more. He's shiny, as his namesake might suggest, and that will ring true for his entire life. When most think of what a bronze dragon looks like, they'll think of Theulth. Brilliant shades of bright orange metallic and almost yellow hues, he's vibrant and will always be vibrant. Oiled, he'll be beautiful. There isn't awkward patterning or other off-colors to detract from his brilliant hide.

Mind Voice: Theulth has the classic 'professor', teacher, or authoritative tone. He always speaks like he knows what he's talking about, even if he doesn't, though it's never patronizing or to put someone down. It's a smooth sound, the sort that one could listen to during a lecture and not fall asleep to.

Flying - What dragon doesn't, right? But Theulth loves being in the air. He'll want to practice - practice - practice using his wings at every opportunity because the sky calls to this bronze like it calls to no other. The sky is where he belongs, he's certain of it.

Rules - They most certainly are not made to be broken. He likes it when he understands the rules to the game, how things are supposed to work, and when people abide by them. He also prefers that everyone abide by where they fit in the world.

If you have time to lean... - Then you have time to do something productive. There is no such thing as down time.

Pointless Distractions - This means, while he's young, lady dragons and women in general won't even hit his radar. Ain't got time for that. When he's an adult, he won't have time for such distractions while he's on duty. Afterwards, by all means. He'll most likely never understand the need to flirt, but he won't mind it when his bonded does.

Busy work - some chores aren't worth a bronze dragon's time. There is a color hierarchy and he firmly believes in it. Some tasks are better suited to smaller dragons. Give him something that really tests him.

* EAGER : Theulth earnestly wants to prove his worth to the weyr and wants to be the best bronze dragon he can be. You won't find him shirking, complaining, or distracted by anything when it's time to buckle down and get to drills or training.

* CONFIDENT : He believes firmly in himself and his bonded. Once given a task, given his word, or promise, he will carry it out to the best of his ability and will always support his bonded because that's what bronze dragons do. He's unshakable in knowing who he is and what he's capable of.

* NEARSIGHTED : Theulth is a bronze dragon through and through. He cannot comprehend that there is anyone better than what he is - to include the Black Dragons. He's not aggressive in this assertion, but he is insistent. Likewise, overreaching colors will find no understanding in Theulth.

* ANTISOCIAL : It isn't that he doesn't like other dragons, he just isn't all that keen in interacting with them. Theulth will likely establish a close connection with other bronzes - those that will understand and think like him - but he comes across as cold, diffident, and often detached to others. He is far more apt to tell another dragon what to do then ask them how they are.
