Southern Winds has plotted events roughly every OOC week. This means our story is ever evolving and Southern Winds is changing. Events for the current month are listed here, once you've registered for an account.

Our roleplay time is pretty fluid. We allow you to play anything that may have happened in the past, but not in the future, as events that may affect the entire weyr may ruin futuristic plots.

We list Flights, Clutches, and Hatchings for both Dragons and Whers here, though not for firelizards.  There are Candidate events, Weyrling classes, Holder plots, and Crafthall developments -- a little bit of something for everyone.

Your Reflection...

Appearance: Kímar isnít one to normally stand out in a crowd. In fact, he prides himself in being able to blend in. Heís not too tall at just under 6í and keeps himself fit so heís ready at a momentís notice for any sort of activity or threat. His clothes are similar by providing comfort, flexibility, and they are the lightest material possible to keep from overheating in the South. This is why he has taken a knife to most of his sleeves and more often than not he will be wearing a sleeveless, unlaced tunic to expose as much skin as he can without being shirtless. His dark hair is unruly; never really tended to or maintained further than a wash and a couple finger tousles. He is very low maintenance when it comes to appearance since he would rather spend his time on training or fighting Threadfall. He is an overly dedicated Wing Rider, which places first and foremost in his list of priorities. Upkeep with his appearance is close to last. He does well to keep himself from being noticed in a group, other than with his Wing, although his eyes have been known to give him away more than once. His eyes are a light, crystal blue color that is a stark contrast to his dark hair. They often stand out and betray his desire to keep from being noticed when he would rather slip away from the crowd.

Response to 9th Pass Catastrophe: Kímar is just happy that he and his sister survived. He doesnít dwell on the past and thinking about what could have been. Instead, he focuses on the future and how to prevent anything like that from happening again. He also helps as much as he can in rebuilding what they lost on Fort Island. He wants to believe that Weyrs will return to the northern continent one day in the far future, but until then he spends as much time as he can pouring over history and science books to learn what he can so that the next Pass isnít nearly so deadly.

Response to dragon color mutations: Kímar has no real feeling for or against the mutations. Were they a surprise? Yes. Is this going to change anything for him? No. To him, the mutations are a matter of nature and science. In order to survive new dragons were born that seemed made to protect against and fight the Hunters and River Snakes. It is adaptability by the dragons. He was genuinely surprised when the black dragon hatched, and curious of course, but that was the extent of his reaction. He looks forward to more being hatched in order to have Wings of them to fend off or hunt the Hunters so the Jungle may be a safer place for everyone. As for the Weyrleader, he doesnít know much about him other than his arrogant attitude. Kímar is just waiting to see what types of decisions the boy makes to decide if he will actually make a good Weyrleader or not. As of right now, Kímar doesnít have high hopes in him.

Who are you...

Likes:
Training: Kímar is relentless when it comes to training. He wants to always be prepared, whether it is for Hunters, or the next Threadfall. He believes that the harder they train, the better a chance they have at the next Pass to keep up with the Threadfall and prevent any unnecessary deaths. He also enjoys this most because he feels that this is his purpose. If he wasnít a part of a Wing, he would likely be lost.

Reading: He enjoys going over old history scrolls to learn of previous training exercises, mistakes, triumphs, or anything that he can use to improve now. He believes in not reinventing the wheel and to learn from the past so that they can move forward instead of making mistakes that have already been made and learned from.

Listening to music: He especially likes to hear the sound of a woman singing. It soothes something inside of him and really relaxes him. If a woman could sing to him at night before sleep he would die happy. As it is, he has no such person to sing to him, so he instead will find himself drawn to Harpers when they play to just stand somewhere within hearing range and not too close so that they donít stop.

Sex: Iím sorry, but what man doesnít enjoy a good romp in the weyr? While he would certainly not be classified as a Casanova, he does enjoy casual sex as it comes.
Trying something new: Heís always up for adventure or trying something new. This is what really keeps life exciting.

Dislikes:
Blind arrogance: Itís a huge turnoff for him if someone thinks they know everything about life and then try to preach it to everyone else. No one knows everything.

Chores: They just get in the way of training or relaxing.

Fighting for no reason: This is why he tends not to have a weyrmate. He finds that most women seem to find a reason to fight, even if itís not a good one. If they start arguing over something completely unimportant, this annoys him more than anything and heíll usually be done with her after that. Make sure to pick your battles and if you want to fight, it better damn well be over something important.

Sharing anything too personal: Heís a private person once you get past his zeal for training and fighting Hunters or Threadfall. Heís not comfortable going much deeper than that and will usually shy away from any topics about himself that start to scratch beneath the surface. Otherwise heíll try for short answers to disinterest the person into talking about something else.

Strengths:

* Loyalty : Kímar is the most loyal person you will ever meet. Once you are deemed a friend or comrade, he will always be there for you. He is most loyal to his Wing and would do anything for them. He would never speak negatively of those he is loyal to and in fact is turned off by anyone who would. He is very protective of those that he is close to and they can always count on him, whether they realize it or not. If he finds someone he loves, then he will love them completely and take care of them. He is sickened by the idea of sleeping with someone else once he has a weyrmate because of how strong his loyalty is. Which is why someone betraying him would possibly destroy him.

* Dedication : He is deeply dedicated to the Weyr and restoring what was lost. He will volunteer with any project in this respect and will never miss a drill or event for the Wing. He is always preparing for the worst and making sure he is in the best of shape. He goes above and beyond when it comes to training and will spend hours of his own free time to go over something or try something new if he thinks it will help.

* Knowledge : He has a lot of knowledge from reading about their history and even going over every flight formation that has ever been tried. He is a walking history book, though most are unaware, and which he only shares when it would be useful to the situation.

* Laid-back : While Kímar does have a temper, it takes something really important to him to really set him off. Otherwise, he is a very laid-back guy. He loves to relax, sit back and have a drink, lay out in the sun or go for a swim, or go on an adventure. He can go with the flow of things as they change and not get upset. So when he does get angry, then it is best to be wary.

* Fit : Yes, this is a strength. He is always keeping himself in shape so he is ready for anything. He will go explore the Jungle, have back to back Drills, train at the drop of a hat, have a long bout of sex, or any other type of exertion. He has stamina to allow him to keep up with everything without getting burnt out. He can go all day without stopping if he wanted to. The problem would be stopping, though, because once he settles down, heís usually down for the count for a good hour power nap at the very least. By nightfall, the entire Weyr could be going up in flames and he would sleep through it.

Weaknesses:

* Music : If he hears a beautiful voice singing heíll usually stop dead in his tracks and hunt it down. Kímar loves singing and music and heís drawn to it like a moth to a flame. This is something he likes to keep private.

* Fearless : He can sometimes be a bit of a thrill-seeker, which has gotten him into trouble plenty of times. He knows heís not invincible, but he tends to choose the fight response over the flight. He would rather face something head-on and think of it as a challenge, even if that means heís risking his life. He doesnít really feel fear the way someone normally might in order to tell the person that something may not be a good idea. Instead he just feels the adrenaline rush and heís deaf to anything beyond that.

* Trusting : He has such loyalty to those close to him that he expects that same loyalty in return. This makes it all the easier to crush him should anyone betray that trust.

* Altruistic : Due to his loyalty, he will put the other person first and himself last, even if he is more injured or in danger. He would give up his own life if it would help that person. He tends to do stupid things like this over nothing to help someone out, which ends up costing him more than anything.

* Competitive : Kímar can definitely be known for getting competitive with his wingmates. He is always looking to prove himself or his method of doing something to others. In typical day to day things, heís usually his laid-back self, but bring in some competition and there will be a gleam in his eyes that you may not have seen before.

Describe Yourself:

* Hardworking: ----- He spends a majority of his time with his Wing, training, or reading on previous Wing formations or Threadfalls.

* Relaxed: ----- Kímar is usually pretty laid-back. The only time he can get riled up is when it is regarding something really important to him. Otherwise, heís content to relax in the sun or go do something fun (or stupid).

* Loyal: ----- Did I say this enough? This word is like the definition of Kímar. It should be his middle name.

* Respectful: ----- He has no problem with ranks or lifestyles. He is equally respectful to a greenrider as to a Goldrider as the same goes for the sexuality of partners. While he is strictly heterosexual, he respects that some of the other riders prefer those of their own gender. He is a bit uncomfortable though if a guy were ever to hit on him.

* Good listener: ----- Heís not a big talker all of the time, except for something heís passionate about, which makes him for a great listener. If you want to just talk someoneís ear off, Kímarís your guy. Heíll relax, take it allóor most of itóin, and let you know honestly what he thinks. Just donít get mad if itís not the response you were looking for.

The Magic Touch:I think weíve covered the gist of him. He is honestly just a good man trying his best to better the world and help those close to him. He hasnít a bad bone in his body. Kímar has no dreams of being a leader, and in fact, would rather not lead. He likes his knowhow and to use that to benefit the group, but he would never want to lead them in anything. At most, he would probably enjoy being a Wingsecond, but that would be his limit.

Tell us a story...



* 2561, 0 Kímar was born the year that Telgar Weyr fell. Before he was a year old his parents moved them to High Reaches Weyr. He obviously remembers nothing of this move, but his parents did always make sure to remind him that they were from Telgar Weyr originally.

* 2569, 8 Kímarís little sister is born. He learns to care for her while his parents fight the near constant Threadfall. She becomes the most important person in his life.

* 2571, 10 His parents die in two separate Threadfalls within a week of one another. High Reaches Weyr falls apart and he leaves with his sister and the remaining survivors to Fort Weyr. A friend of his parents takes him and his sister under his wing and helps to raise them and teach Kímar good values. Kímar becomes even more protective of his sister (now only 2 years old) in the new place and refuses to leave her side as she grows up. His protective instincts are in overdrive at this period in his lifeóthe feeling still linger when heís around his sister now, which is why he may seem a bit overprotective. Kímar performs chores and has far more responsibilities than a normal child his age would have. This is the year where he grew up. Most kids during this period missed out on a good childhood, which is why Kímar likes to be a bit more carefree and adventurous nowadays while he can.

* 2573, 12 K'mar started working in the kitchens when he came of age. He didn't have any particular skill for weaving or music and honestly had no interest in learning. It is one thing to love music, another thing entirely to try and make it your life when you know it's just not for you. He had considered the healer's apprenticeship, but decided against it. He was determined to be a dragonrider, and he felt more sure of being chosen as a Candidate if he was nearby. Everyone knows of course that this is far from the truth. It doesn't matter if you live at the Weyr or are available or a Master Harper. Still, this comforted K'mar and he instead chose to live as a drudge working primarily in the kitchens. He started on cleaning and dishes, then worked his way up over the next few years to preparing food and even cooking some of it (he's a closet chef and baker, not that he'd ever tell).

* 2576, 15 K'mar is finally Searched and becomes a Candidate. Fortunate enough for him, he Impresses Berynth at the next Clutching. This is the highlight of his life and the safest he had ever felt up to this point. This was also a hard transition of him becoming a Weyrling and having less time to care for Mogs, who was 7 at the time. He instead turns to frequent check-ins with her since he cannot keep his eye on her at all times. It is fortunate that he Impressed because this gave him a bit more freedom than he ordinarily would have allowed himself. While he had more chores and classes, he also interacted more with the other Weyrlings in the Weyr and made his own friends (and lady friends, if you know what I mean). He still adored his sister and spent as much time with her as he could, but he finally began to come into his own man at this point.

* 2578, 17 Kímar graduates as a Weyrling. Later in the year he is accepted as a Wing Rider (as you can never have too many when there is constant ThreadFall). He dedicates himself to Drills, training, and learning about the past. His dedication to the Wing becomes a common knowledge and he invests much of his time to fighting Threadfall even as the northern continent is being decimated.

* 2581, 20 Margherie is accepted as an apprentice healer. K'mar is extremely proud of his little sister and knows she'll do great things by helping people. He knows she not-so-secretly wishes to be a dragonrider like him, but he not-so-secretly-tells-her-nearly-everyday wants her to stay far away from Threadfall when it returns, not fight it. He has nothing against women being dragonriders; just his sister. She would be much safer helping others where she is away from any danger.

* 2584, 23 K'mar is scarred by threadscore during a Threadfall. Mogs obviously finds out somehow (K'mar thinks she keeps spies throughout the Weyr among the weyrbrats) and scolds him for not being careful. It doesn't sound like a significant life event, but it was for K'mar hearing his baby sister he practically raised scolding him.

* 2587-9, 26-8 Kímar and Mogs move to Southern Winds Weyr on Fort Island. Kímar does as much as he can to help build the new Weyr and put together whatever  is left. He keeps his skills sharp and body fit so he is prepared for anything that may come next.



He thought he had been prepared for this.

I mean, you grow up surrounded by dragons and you see the relationships they have with the dragonriders. You know about the mental, physical, and emotional connection there is between human and dragon. He had gone to so many Clutchings he had lost count. And yet with all of that knowledge, all of that understanding, there was nothing that could have prepared him for this moment.

The feeling was indescribable. The second his eyes met with the blue-green eyes of the deep, dark and near chocolate-hued dragon across the Hatching Sands, it was like he was being sucked under by the ocean tide. He fell deep, deep into the dragonís gaze as if mesmerized. It was like his mind and his heart had just expanded in that moment, and his body was taking its time to readjust and put things back in their new perspective.The rest of the world had faded away and in that singular instant, not another living being existed outside of them. In that moment, all the fears and insecurities were gone. He was a dragonrider now, and he trusted this dragon as if he had known him his entire life.

The hatchling moved and Kemaris snapped back to attention. This time, he got a better look at the dragon. Brown. Definitely a deep brown dragon. His heart swelled with pride in how beautiful he was. And he was his. He felt so much love and adoration for this being before him that he was dumbstruck with awe.

Kímar, Iím starving. Feed Berynth? There was a teasing lilt to Berynthís mindvoice that Kímarís lips instantly turned to a smile. The now-turned-Weyrling closed the distance of the Sands to rest his hand lightly on the dragonís head. //Yes. Letís go eat.// He was now grinning from ear to ear with joy. He probably looked like a fool. Kímar quickly scanned the crowd and saw all of their faces glued to an egg beginning to quake on the Sands. It was the moment where everyone holds their breath as if afraid to scare the dragon away from hatching by making the smallest of sounds. The time that passed must not have been that long since the crowd was still so enthralled in the Clutching, even as it was nearing its end. Kímar turned them to leave the Sands to find them some food.

General Appearance...

Berynth is a deep, dark shade of brown that is reminiscent of chocolate. He has sleek highlights down his back and underbelly, but is otherwise a smooth monochrome color. He has been this dark since being hatched and has worn his color proudly. While some may think his color isnít beautiful since he doesnít gleam in the sun like Golds or Bronzes, he enjoys the sun just as much and feels that his color allows him to absorb more of the heat than his superiors. The color is also helpful at night if heís at watch in the dark because heís near impossible to see once the sun sets. It can be helpful in the Jungle as well since he so easily blends in to the wood and darkness. He is on the large side of the brown dragons, reaching a full 35 meters in length, which is the size of a small Bronze. 

Personality...

Mind Voice: Berís mind voice is usually calm and relaxed. Itís on the lower side in depth, but it would definitely not be classified as a deep voice. While he usually tries to play calm and laid back with Kímar, he does have an excitable side where his voice takes on a light-hearted, cheery tenor.

Likes:
Sunbathing, duh. Berynth would like to know which dragon doesnít enjoy this most relaxing past time? Soaking in the sun and stretching out on a sun rock is the top of his list. He is usually found in the Weyr Bowl doing this if Kímar is busy inside.

Training: Ber is just as dedicated as Kímar is to being the best and constantly improving. He will push himself past his limits if he has to, although he will be the first to say if heís done for the day.

Music: He shares his partnerís love of music. In fact, thatís what tops just sunbathingósunbathing while listening to someone play music or sing.

Dislikes:
Liars: While Kímar will usually brush this aside and say that there must have been a reason for the lie, Berynth never finds this acceptable. Anyone who would lie to Kímar must not be a good person. Period.

Bullies: If he sees any color dragon or their rider, or even non-weyrfolk bullying someone else, this will evoke a temper in Ber that is rarely seen. Just the thought of it will set him on edge. Heís instinctively protective of everyone, to some extent, so he will not allow bullying to happen so long as he can help it.

Strengths:

* Caring : Ber cares about everyone. Everyone. He doesnít make enemies easily and will do anything he can to help someone. Heíll be the first to volunteer Kímar to help with something even if that person hasnít even asked for the help yet. This is a strength (though you can see it can sometimes be a bit of a burden on Kímar) because it is the sweetest part of his nature.

* Grounded : Mostly for Kímar, Berynth can turn off any excitedness with the flip of a switch so he can be calm and think clearly when needed. He knows when a situation calls for seriousness, and he can change moods in the blink of an eye. He is the voice of reason for Kímar and helps him to make what are hopefully the best decisions.

Weaknesses:

* Overprotective : Of everyone. This can cause him to sometimes be nosy, which may annoy others. He is also persistent in helping someone, whether or not they want his help. It has certainly annoyed Kímar a time or two.

* Can be lazy : While Berynth loves to train and push himself, when he is not in training mode he is in lazy mode. He wants to lay in the sun, bathe in the sun, eat in the sun, sleep in the sun, and thatís it. If it werenít for his hard training ethic once heís in that mode, he would probably be a very, very, fat and lazy dragon. Which is one reason why Kímar will never let that happen.

General Appearance...

She's a dark hunter green, almost olive in her hue and rather drab looking compared to some of the brighter Greens in the weyr. Her wingsails and back bear a much lighter dusting of celadon, though this color appears just as washed out as the rest of her in bright sunlight. Her limbs are narrow and very dainty, making her look rather fragile.

Personality...

Mind Voice: Her mind voice is low and gruff, almost scratchy, but sounds throatily pleasant when she's happy about something -- which is frequently. Sweet and empathetic, she'll nuzzle up to anyone having a bad day.

Likes: Other Greens : They're all her sisters, no matter if they're flit, dragon, or wher. She'll be even more sweet-tempered to them than she is to anything else, and will be incredibly loyal to them. Including Vorloruth.
Learning : She's very curious, bordering on nosy, and loves learning or discovering new things. Would do very well as a working flit, or at least trained for some tasks.

Dislikes: Bronzes : They're pushy, overreaching, and arrogant:  all things that rub her the wrong way. Not to mention they throw their weight around to Greens. Really, they encompass everything she hates about rude people.
Messiness : Order and cleanliness are paramount. This means she'll clean up after both K'mar and Niema, to include hanging up riding straps and putting away clothes.

She should get along very well with Niema and Vorloruth, and she'll adore K'mar and Berynth -- doting on them and being very sweet.

History Update:

[i]* 2563, 0[/i] Kímar was born at High Reaches Weyr. His parents alternate visiting him at the crŤche between working Threadfalls. Their obvious love for him since as long as he can remember stays with him as a fond memory.

[i]* 2571, 8[/i] High Reaches Weyr falls apart and the remaining survivors are moved to Fort Weyr. Kímar doesnít remember the move so much as the memory of his parentsí worry now that they had moved twice already and the population was lessening faster with every Turn. His parents were always honest with him about what was happening, but made sure they always pressed hope and faith in the Weyr that everything would be okay in the end.

[i]* 2573, 10 [/i] Kímarís little sister is born. He learns to care for her while his parents fight the near constant Threadfall. She becomes the most important person in his life.

[i]* 2574, 11[/i] His parents die in two separate Threadfalls within a week of one another. At this point, Kímar takes over caring for his sister and becomes even more protective of her. His protective instincts are in overdrive at this period in his lifeóthe feelings still linger when heís around his sister now, which is why he may seem a bit overprotective. Kímar performs chores and has far more responsibilities than a normal child his age would have. This is the year where he grew up. Most kids during this period missed out on a good childhood, which is why Kímar likes to be a bit more carefree and adventurous nowadays while he can.

[i]* 2575, 12[/i] Kímar is such a good kid that heís able to convince the kitchen manager to let him start working there doing anything from keeping everything clean, to washing dishes. He didn't have any particular skill for weaving or music and honestly had no interest in learning. It is one thing to love music, another thing entirely to try and make it your life when you know it's just not for you. He had considered the healer's apprenticeship, but decided against it. He was determined to be a dragonrider, and he felt more sure of being chosen as a Candidate if he was nearby. Everyone knows of course that this is far from the truth. It doesn't matter if you live at the Weyr or are available or a Master Harper. Still, this comforted K'mar and he instead chose to live as a drudge working primarily in the kitchens. He worked his way up over the next few years from cleaning to preparing food and even cooking some of it (he's a closet chef and baker, not that he'd ever tell).

[i]* 2578, 15[/i] K'mar is finally Searched and becomes a Candidate. Fortunate enough for him, he Impresses Berynth at the next Clutching. This is the highlight of his life and the safest he had ever felt up to this point. This was also a hard transition of him becoming a Weyrling and having less time to care for Mogs, who was 6 at the time. He instead turns to frequent check-ins with her since he cannot keep his eye on her at all times. It is fortunate that he Impressed because this gave him a bit more freedom than he ordinarily would have allowed himself. While he had more chores and classes, he also interacted more with the other Weyrlings in the Weyr and made his own friends (and lady friends, if you know what I mean). He still adored his sister and spent as much time with her as he could, but he finally began to come into his own man at this point.

[i]* 2580, 17[/i] Kímar graduates as a Weyrling. Later in the year he is accepted as a Wing Rider (as you can never have too many when there is constant ThreadFall). He dedicates himself to Drills, training, and learning about the past. His dedication to the Wing becomes a common knowledge and he invests much of his time to fighting Threadfall even as the northern continent is being decimated.

[i]* 2585, 22[/i] Margherie is accepted as an apprentice healer. K'mar is extremely proud of his little sister and knows she'll do great things by helping people. He knows she not-so-secretly wishes to be a dragonrider like him, but he not-so-secretly-tells-her-nearly-everyday wants her to stay far away from Threadfall when it returns, not fight it. He has nothing against women being dragonriders; just his sister. She would be much safer helping others where she is away from any danger.

[i]* 2586, 23[/i] K'mar is scarred by threadscore during a Threadfall. Mogs obviously finds out somehow (K'mar thinks she keeps spies throughout the Weyr among the weyrbrats) and scolds him for not being careful. It doesn't sound like a significant life event, but it was for K'mar hearing his baby sister he practically raised scolding him.

[i]* 2587-9, 24-26[/i] Kímar and Mogs move to Southern Winds Weyr on Fort Island. Kímar does as much as he can to help build the new Weyr and put together whatever  is left. He keeps his skills sharp and body fit so he is prepared for anything that may come next.
